Gazebo: Polycarbonate to steel roof panels conversion
This is how to update the roof of a gazebo from poly-carbonate to galvanized steel using the original frame of the gazebo.
The polycarbonate panels do not last more than 2 years and they get damaged easily by the Canadian winter!

    Which wires go to which? Which color ?

    I can confirm that this works. I used 'Domtek' lo-rib metal panels (3/8" high ribs). It can be done with 6 sheets @ 8' long if cut correctly. You need to cut a small slot (3/8"-1/2" long) to each side of each rib, then crimp down the rib slightly with a pair of pliers so it fits snug into the slots of the gazebo(the slots are 0.300" and the metal ribs are 0.375") I am in Canada, my gazebo is 10x12, I bought 8 panels @ $36 ea and am returning 2.

  • @raymorgan4657
    @raymorgan4657 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice job, I need to do the same since my polycarbonate panels have holes. I don't quite understand the part about cutting and forming the rolled edge? Are you cutting off and notching out the humps in the steel since they won't fit in the horizontal tracks that are half way up the roof?

    • @Outlander-Qc
      @Outlander-Qc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes , you need to make 2 cuts in each bump. Then using a pliers, you bend the top down in a way that it can slide inside the horizontal track.

    Hi! Thanks for the video. I have the same gazebo model, except 10' x 14', and the same problem with the polycarbonate roof. I was tempting to use simple pine panels (stained with waterproof outdoor paint), which is easy to cut to the sizes needed. Cedar would be better but more expensive and difficult to find with the correct thickness. For instance, these pine panels are sold in many hardware store like Homedepot www.homedepot.ca/product/alexandria-moulding-lambris-pin-noueux-8-pi-v-joint-avec-rainure-et-languette-5-16-x-4-ens-de-6/1000131010. Here, the thickness of the wood panels is the same thickness as the polycarbonate panels, i.e. 8 mm (5/16”). The galvanized steel you are referring is ½” (12.7mm) on peaks. See drawing from Canac… www.canac.ca/en/victoria-steel-roofing-8-ft-5501 . So, my question is, was it a problem to fit the galvanized steel panels in the rails? Also, what do you think of the pine panel idea?

    • @Outlander-Qc
      @Outlander-Qc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, pine wood is not very good for outside project unless it is pressure treated with some chemical. I could not find any type of pressure treated wood that fit in the rail of the gazebo. That is why I used the galvanized steel. I did not have any trouble fitting the steel panes on the side rails. There is an edge on the panel that fit directly in the rail. Then, when you cut the other side, it was always in the thin part of the panel. Good luck with your project!

    • @Rejean59
      @Rejean59 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Outlander-Qc Makes perfect sense. Apart from being easier to work with the wood, the galvanized steel will do much better and last longer for sure. Will take your advice! Thanks a lot for the quick response! Enjoy the summer, if it can come one day :)

      @@Outlander-Qc i guess problem is not the metal sheet but the gazebo structure that need to hold the snow weight!! One winter i kept my poly carbonate panel, but i had to brace the structure and shovel the top after snowstorm.
