Genius build “on the fly” for a non-carpenter! Impressive. So we’ll thought out, we’ll organized, detailed, and nice and neat. He could sell blueprints on his build. I know I’d buy it. Proud for my fellow Okie.
Dave showed Dina and I his set up, we were very impressed with what he did. I got to visit with him one evening during dinner quite a bit, like you Bill, Dave is a musician. We did not make it back for the Thursday night get together so we did not get to exchange contact information with Dave, we meant to. Rowdy is a great dog, really well behaved.
Thanks so much to David for sharing his SUV camper build with all of us "like minded" others ..... He did a FANTASTIC job with his layout and the added Tent space .... I own a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and David's build gave me new ideas .... KEEP them interviews coming Bill 👌👍👍👍
I have to say he's got a nice set up there and it's funny today I've been doing searches for tents like that because whatever I buy or do I wanna put one of those so I can keep my little puppy in and also have some outside cover without getting a clamshell or one of those other something that will attach to the vehicle 10 by 10 by 9 foot high woo now that's a lot of room .👍👏👏🎅🚌🌻✌
Really nice setup & I like how David mentioned in the beginning of using what you have & the knowledge you have to make it work. Thank you for sharing a really cool setup.
Thank you Bill for all that your wife and you put together for the channel. I have a 2004 Ford SUV that I need to make it a start-up built and searching this morning 3/ 17 / 23 at 5 a.m. I found your video, the title that you gave it called my attention. I travel about 2 hours to go to work and the schedule could be sometimes from three to five days and in the past year what I've done is to fall down all my seats and slide in a 3in mattress that I got somewhere in a thrift store. I bought myself a cigarette lighter fan and I run tha at night if he gets hot. This year I want to make it more livable and eventually go part-time during my work season and eventually full-time. I was surprised and impressed by David's statement that he was not a Carpenter and yet did such a great work. I happen to be in a similar situation where I have the tools and yet I'm not a carpenter, but my day job entitled setting up exhibits in convention centers and area hotels, so gathering my experiences and the tools I will eventually be able like David to create some cabinets/and a live in quarters Thank you again mr. Bill and David, God bless you all and be safe on the road. JCT:)
Great job! I'm thinking of doing something similar with an Explorer and an add-on tent. I'm wondering where he carries the tent and all of those other items I see outside of his vehicle when on the road.
Very smart! I'd love a link to those hinges - if you are still reading comments on this and are able to add the link to them, that would be much appreciated.
I have a similar set with my Napier Backroadz SUV lime green tent just not that sophisticated build. Love his build. It is awesome! My GMC Terrain has a bench back seat and is too difficult to remove and it does not lay flat. I am 72-year-old female and built a bed platform with plastic storage containers beneath and after having to level it with my back seat I find it is too close to the roof once mattress is installed. My mattress is super comfy but because I am so claustrophobic, I find it difficult to sleep comfortably that close to the roof. I have camped twice with my set up and am so disappointed as I love, love, love to camp. After retiring I can no longer afford a camper as I would have to replace my SUV and that can't happen at this time. Over the decades I have had a motorhome, travel trailer and the latter were 2 pop up campers. I find pop ups to be too much work. I will continue to use my SUV tent but will be sleeping on a cot in the tent and use interior of SUV as storage. Happy camping Dave and safe travels! Enjoyed the interview!
Thank you so much. Sorry your build didn't work the way you needed it to, but sounds like you have figured out a solution to get out there and enjoy life
Had a Terrain and Backroadz also.Try sleeping in the second seat & keep everything else behind the second seat. Limit your belongings - try focus on ultralight hiker basics. Add an awning in front of the Backroadz & it's now glamping. You have all you need for weeks on the road.
Wow. Ive been watching some of your videos and I’m so happy I found your station. I’m part time right now and excited about getting out every chance I get. I love you theme, “We’re not camping, we’re living”. What brand tent did David have? I think I missed the brand. I have a minivan and would love to have a tent like that.
It's a Napier Backroadz. I purchased it directly from Napier. During the lockd I was they were out of stock but as soon as I saw it back in stock I got one. They're available on Anazon too.
I would have liked to see how the platform lifts to access the spare tire and the name, link of the hinges! it looks great! That is my problem I'm trying to work around.
With a tent like that, is it easy enough to disconnect it from the vehicle and be able to drive off? Would like to have weeklong home bases at campgrounds, but be able to head out to explore during the days.
Bill, I think in a recent video I can't find anymore, you mentioned using some wood pellets or shavings for compost toilet and kitty litter. Can you repeat where to buy and brand? Thanks

Yes it's very roomy
For a guy with no carpentry skills, he did an amazing job 👍. As Plato said “our need will be the real creator”
Yes, I think he amazed himself.
He clearly has carpentry skills mate.
Lots of enjoyment Dave will get from this rig… nice
David really thought it thru.
Very organized and I like the tent. Nice carpentry

Love your whole rig. So simple but big enough! I love that tent you've got! Could you say where you got it an how much it cost? Congrats!
Very Creative!!
David used every little space for a comfortable camping rig.
Very innovative, if he ever converts a cargo it will be 👍

Never heard of that model of BMW, what size is it? You did some beautiful custom cabinetry there!
Is it possible to have Dave share his Amazon Product links?
I'd love to compare products for a future Honda CRv build out. Thanks.
We do not have Dave's contact information. Maybe we'll see him at the next Rendezvous.

It works great for David
How do you trick the window sensor????
Now that’s using every square inch!!!
Absolutely.
where did you get the usb sharper image fan?? didn't see it on amazon??
I love this build. Is he available to work on mine. I'll drive out where he's at. I have a 2010 Nissan Armada. Will be homeless soon😢. Plz help.
