    The Trend spec is extraordinarily well kitted out for a lower range model .... I'm impressed. The bi-turbo is plenty good enough considering it was the top engine in the 2021 Ranger / Everest.

    3 months in and I am loving my Trend. Easy transition up from a Mondeo. Driving dynamics are terrific. Wife was angsty about size of vehicle and now realises how good is the higher seating position and the ride comfort on highway and off road. Really impressed in economy. Cabin noise very low and sound system easy to work. Would have liked the brilliant voice control of the Mondeo repeated in the Everest. Car Play and Siri nowhere near as easy to use. Have mates with other 4WD brands who get sad 😢 when I am looking at a 4l/100k difference to them even when not towing. Yep I am loving this vehicle.

    I took delivery of my new-gen Trend in late October and have travelled about 4500km so far, roughly 1:2 city:country. My previous vehicle was an April 2020-delivered Trend, also 2.0L Bi-turbo, in which I had travelled 82000km to all parts of WA in that 2.5 years. It did not miss a beat. Plenty of highway and outback dirt cruising, but almost no hard-core 4Wding. So far, I'm a little disappointed in the fuel consumption, showing at 9.6L/100, whereas the previous vehicle averaged about 8.6L/100km. Hopefully it will improve with time. One thing to be aware of with travel on gravel roads is that the rear mudflaps are too short to prevent stones abrading the mudflaps and underbody lip behind the mudflaps. It was also a problem on the previous model, but is significantly worse on the new model. At least the new model has a black plastic underbody cover. It's already shredded, but at least the chips have not peppered the paintwork as happened on the previous model. For a vehicle supposedly developed and tested in Australia, I find it bizarre that it was not noticed and action taken to mitigate it in the design. Ranger rear mudflaps appear to extend lower. I've written to Ford Australia about it but, of course, no reply or even acknowledgement. By my estimate, the rear mudflaps need to extend 30-40mm lower.

    Been umm and ahhing about what to buy for the last few months and was seriously considering the mux but for the same amount of money theres just so much more on offer here in terms of tech and its a nicer design .. I don't plan on doing serious offroading so this suits me fine.

    Paul, the longer wheelbase of the Ranger will give it an advantage on that hill. Also, the ground looked quite damp, which clogged up the tyres. This will affect the traction.

    • @CarExpertAus
      @CarExpertAus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Both good points. We had the same issue in the other Everest we tested and it did the hill while it was dry.

    • @craigice9635
      @craigice9635 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@CarExpertAus the fact that it was dry simply equalised the two cars. The car with 21" wheels had dry ground while the Trend had wet with 18" wheels. For off-roading, a higher profile will always be superior. Your Raptor for example has 17" wheels with an even larger profile as the tyre diameter is larger.

  • @fvandeventer
    @fvandeventer ปีที่แล้ว +1

    for your hill section, perhaps I am wrong, but I think the reason why it doesn't do as well is because it does lock the center differential. Whereas the Ranger mechanically locks the center when in 4L. This lack of center differential lock is or was in the previous generation also and hardcore enthusiast complain about this.
    Looking at the wheel slippage from your camera angle, it seems that this was the issue on the hill climb.

    Interesting Review. How would it compare to the Toyota Fortuner? I currently drive the Fortuner and the current Everest. The everest drives really nice, it just feels as if the Fortuner is a bit tougher. As if you can throw more tuff conditions at it. Maybe it is just a perception.

      Palisade review coming up!

    • @deangrima
      @deangrima 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Im going from a Palisade to a new Ranger Platinum. Test drove the Everest Platinum and would say luxuries are on par with each other. The Palisade is a much bigger cabin with more space and storage. But the Palisade doesnt have as much punch as the V6. If comparing to the bi-turbo, the Palisade is a smoother and more refined 4 cylinder diesel engine. I have only ever owned Hyundai's since getting my licence and the only reason ive jumped from Hyundai to Ford is because Hyundai dont have a ute or an SUV with real towing and 4x4 capability. Sad that Hyundai still has quite a few gaps in their product range.
      After driving the bi-turbo and V6, I absolutely love the smoothness and sound of the V6.
      Reliability will be an interesting thing with the V6.
      Hyundai's 2.2 diesel is a bulletproof diesel motor and the 8 speed TC auto is butter smooth.
      Hope the Ranger lives up to the Expectations I have coming from the Hyundai Palisade (Hyundai make a bloody good car these days).

      Yes many cars today share platforms that were designed with many different models in mind. If anything I think Ford's new platform was designed as an SUV in mind with input from VW as the new Ranger definitely doesn't handle like most other utes. A comparison between Everest and Fortrunner would be no contest in all bar possibly extreme off-road situations which buyers of these vehicles generally don't encounter.
