    I drafted it 3 times & sewed it with some $2 dollar fabric from Walmart because I was afraid to mess it up, but it turned out perfect! Thank you for all your tutorials, I enjoy your style & sweet personality!

    I'm a 4 or 5 XLT (6'5" tall) and I'm tired of paying way too much for shirts that are WAY too big through the middle, but not long enough! So I bought a sewing machine and decided to do them myself. If I can teach myself organ I can make a t-shirt! You've been a huge help! Great video! Also like your other resources.

    So glad I found your videos. I was struggling with all the alterations required on some pdf patterns i purchased. I've decided to learn to draft my own patterns and then maybe if i feel i need to make the ones I purchased i'll understand how to alter them better. This t shirt is awesome. I can't believe how easy it was to make my own pattern. I did have to drop the bust line down on the pattern down a bit to get the sleeves to fit right. So much fun to be able to do it myself!

I'm more an aspiring than actual sewist right now but that's about the most perfect tshirt I've seen anywhere (and I'm not quite satisfied with the "pretty good" tshirts I have now.) Of course your patterns will look different since your measurements are different - that's normal. You will draft your sleeve exactly the same way, just according to what you want. Make a sample and see how it fits - and adjust accordingly.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity

      This video is for knit fabrics, for woven fabrics (non-stretch fabric) you will need to use this tutorial first - th-cam.com/video/QAWF-mFXiTM/w-d-xo.html and then this tutorial th-cam.com/video/46PxYVilT4o/w-d-xo.html to get the same effect as the knit shirt in this video. • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So my particular knit bodice does not have any ease, yours can be whichever way you prefer, you just need to know what you're working with so that way when you want to make modifications you know how much ease you already have in our garment and how much more you want to add for it to look the way you want. In knit bodice block you can have no ease, negative ease or positive ease, in woven bodice blocks and garments you need to have wearable ease. In the episode about making a sweater from bodice block you can see how I add ease.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, it is easy to mix it up, but just wanted to let you know that added ease and a larger size are two different things.
      HOW TO become a MEMBER of this channel to get access to Instruction Sheets, Extra Videos for Members Only and small templates for mini projects - READ FIRST TILL THE END. Thank you!
      PLEASE NOTE: these are not patterns for clothes and garments, these are instruction sheets. Step-by-step written instruction on how I drafted this or that project, so that you can follow along. The templates are ONLY for the small projects, like a basket, or coaster, or towel wrap and etc. I have also created sewing reference sheets and practice sheets, as well as sketches that you can use and some small scale garment parts that you can use to practice "slash and spread" techniques and dart manipulations. Instruction sheets are focused on the drafting process and less on the sewing sequence as that is shown in the video. Sewing steps can be sometimes written out, and sometimes referenced back to the original video. Additional Members Extra videos go into fabric selection, extra tips and tricks, best practices and some additional ideas from me. Lisa, I am trying not to get frustrated while drafting a t-shirt pattern. I would really like to know how to add ease to the pattern since I need it desperately. Although I am fairly small, I am not as tiny as you and am big busted so making a t-shirt without some amount of ease looks rather sketchy on me to say the least. I looked in the members only section to see if I could find some instructions on adding ease but I can't seem to find it. Can you let me know if there is a video somewhere in your videos that instructs us on how to add ease the proper way to our drafted patterns. I feel like such a dummy but when I try to do these things on my own, the pattern I make is, well, let's just say it doesn't look very good when I sew it up.

      Cathleen, hello there! So sorry for your frustration. There are multiple ways to add easy to a pattern, but the simplest way to understand ease and what it is, here is your bust measurement, which is 10 (just for example) and you 2" to it, and that is ease. Here is a video for Members about EASE, there is also a reference sheet on the Google Drive for Members - th-cam.com/video/ot5Ncd85K_o/w-d-xo.html Now, it really is as easy as taking your bust, waist or hip measurement and adding to it and then placing that new measurement on your pattern draft. When you are full busted and you are making anything with grown on sleeve you have to remember that grown on sleeve (full busted or not) will always create a "pocket" of fabric in the underarm section, I believe I have talked about it in quite a few Members Extra. To create a "classic" t-shirt, with the set-in sleeve, I have a full series on knit bodice block that also shows how to do a full-bust adjustment, which gives you more room in the bust and tackles the gaping armhole - th-cam.com/video/E7RtajU3ASk/w-d-xo.html video number 7 in this playlist will show the full bust adjustment. Another way how to add ease is to do a slash and spread method, there is also a video for Members. Now, to see how the ease is added to the measurement, just watch this bodice block with darts video, when I draft bust/waist/hip line I take the measurement and add ease to it - th-cam.com/video/aJ6Stv9b8k0/w-d-xo.html ALSO, the latest video series about drafting and sewing the button-up shirt, features a video where I adjust the bodice from a basic block, and there you see how I add ease to it as well - th-cam.com/video/U6JxK2_qxGI/w-d-xo.html

      Cathleen, I just posted on a community tab for Members about ease with added sketch to show how it looks, I hope the visuals will help you!

      @@ThoughtfulCreativity Lisa, thank you so much for going the extra mile to help me. I get so overwhelmed trying to do this right and when you tell us to adjust things the way we want, I don't know enough yet to know what decision to make. Then I waste so much fabric making toile after toile to check the fit. I will watch all the videos you have suggested and eventually I will get a good pattern. Again, thank you so much. I really really appreciate it. I apologize for being so slow to figure this out.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity

      @@cathleenvance4441 Cathleen, you will get there! About making toiles... why don't you add extra width to you front and back pattern piece, put it on yourself with side seams being not sewn and just pin it together with the ease that looks and feels comfortable - that could be a good hands on method for you. Then copy hat you have pinned onto a paper pattern. Also, question , are you making this - grown on sleeve t-shirt, are you making a t-shirt with a set-in sleeve, are you making a knit bodice block? Do you have a t-shirt where you like the amount of ease it has? - then just copy the measurement of the bust line to you pattern. What type of stretch fabric are you using? Your fabric might have very little stretch to it. I understand - and it is totally normal, we all get overwhelmed. I wish I could go over every single little thing in every video, but then videos would be hours long... okay, so I made a Members Extra video about how I add ease to my measurements/patterns 3 different ways, I just finished it, so it does not have links under it, but I thought I would give you the "draft" link, so that way you can watch it right away. Here's the draft - th-cam.com/video/xSfEUHBgMwg/w-d-xo.html

      @@ThoughtfulCreativity Oh my gosh Alisa, I am speechless. You came home from work and took time to create the most incredibly HELPFUL video I think I have ever watched. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This video that you sent so I could watch it right away has HELPED so much. I just cannot thank you enough. I was trying to draft your knit bodice block and I was using cotton jersey at first, then switched to ITY jersey which seemed to be better. I must have drafted the bodice block 3 times and I'm sure it's just the way my body is shaped. You have the best channel for content and the things you teach us are just fabulous. Your methods are great and I really have learned so much. I don't know why I was not able to find the videos, I think it was just that I kept trying to get the fit right and getting so mad at myself. Again, thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to make this video. You are so kind and sincere. I am going to start drafting again in the morning and I know with all this information I will get it right. Bless you and thank so so much. I appreciate you more than ever.

      Make a pattern first, put it on the table - measure around and you will find how much fabric you will need. This VERY much depends on how long you want your t-shirt, or if you are making me it into a dress.

      You may know it by full measurement - 3/4 - 1/2 - 1/4, so you measure your bust, waist, and hips, then you divide those measurements either by 1/2 or 1/4 of your measurement and you can make your pattern as seen in this video. Hope that helps you out?
