    Oh, oh... OH! This is pure gold. It's not a "Trace your T-shirt panels" video, it's actually teaching the geometry of pattern making, including sizing and easing.

      I have never sewn a garment before. But I want to. It takes my brain a really long time to fully comprehend a new concept. I was never good at geometry in school, so it's really intimidating, but this channel has definitely been raising my confidence in trying it soon.

    Hi! Intermediate sewist here for many decades with blankets, bags, table runners, scrunchies, lanyards, clothe wipes, clothe liners n pads & etc...
    I've watched your YT channel for quite a few months now and love the detailed instructions! Enough that I was confident to make underwear, tshirt, baby shirt. For myself is a whole other side of skills to learn! The serger just arrived yesterday! When you say "I truly believe that if I can do, so can you" I hear the belief affirmation to do just that. Thank you for the hard work and dedication for the videos! ❤❤

    As always, your video is amazing. I (and maybe others) would love to know if you really like your Singer machine? Maybe it's not logical to ask since you use it beautifully, but would you buy it again? I want to upgrade from the Brother 9500PRW. I am seeking more even stitching & would love the auto cutter feature, as well as some other things. A Janome is pricier, a Bernita is out of my $ range. I sew primarily garments but also home dec. Thank you so much for any advice!

    • @bhobbs3284
      @bhobbs3284 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As a sewing machine technician and an intermediate sewing person, allow me to add my two cents.
      Alisa is a fabulous seamstress and can make gorgeous garments with any sewing machine: a $10K top of the line Babylock or a $150 entry level Singer.
      For mere mortals like you or me, the better the machine, the easier it will be to learn to sew. A better machine will compensate for your (my) lack of skill. A lower quality machine will frustrate you when it doesn't do what it ought to. And if you are an experienced, skillful seamstress, a good machine will be a joy to sew with.
      Don't be fooled by a machine with a lot of bells and whistles. What matters is the mechanisms and circuitry behind those bells and whistles. And just because it says "heavy duty" doesn't mean it is. These are mere marketing words.
      On that, having worked on hundreds of machines, I think you can't go wrong with the "B" machines: Babylock, Brother (upper level, not those sold on QVC or in chain fabric stores), or Bernina. You don't need to spend a fortune to get a great machine from one of these brands. If your budget is really tight, consider purchasing a trade-in machine. You can get a great machine for a fraction of the price.
      There are other fine manufacturers, but from my workbench, the "B" machines have the fewest problems and are easiest to fix--because they are so well made.
      I sincerely hope this helps.
      Happy sewing!

    • @helenlouise1737
      @helenlouise1737 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bhobbs3284 I am grateful to you for offering your wise, professional advice here. First I have to reassure you I am aware Bernina was misspelled in my previous text. A sewing machine repairman told me a year ago that Bernina machines are great but even the attachments were very pricey. He recommended a Janome, felt they are superior. He had no use for Brother machines, especially from Wal-Mart, & he used to be a dealer for Brother at his shop! So....when I began research of machines the Singer Quantam was interesting, thus my question for Alisa of Thoughtful Creativity about hers. I still hope she can offer some answers. THANK you B. HOBBS!

    • @bhobbs3284
      @bhobbs3284 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@helenlouise1737 I appreciate your response: I was fearful I might have offended a stranger.
      Janomie makes a fine machine, yet I see them come into my shop regularly despite not selling that brand.
      Berninas are expensive--probably more expensive than they ought to be, but they are a good, solid machine. I bought my Bernina used and saved a bundle.
      Quite frankly, I am surprised Alisa uses a Singer, but I believe it was a gift from her husband. I think she has a Babylock serger. Or maybe her coverstitch machine is Babylock.
      Singer used to make a very good sewing machine. If you can find a pre-1970 model (all metal), buy it, but it will most likely have fewer bells and whistles than what you are used to. I would stay away from the later models after the company changed hands. You can get an entry level Babylock machine for about the same price as a basic Singer machine.
      Although I am Team Bernina, I am always impressed with the Babylock machines. They are smooth and quiet. They have the best needle threaders--head and shoulders above the competition. They are just a joy to sew with.
      The upper level Brother machines are made in the same factory as Babylock and are also very good.
      For someone sewing garments and basic home furnishings (curtains, table runners, napkins, etc.) again, I would recommend a "B" machine. These all have features made for the type of sewing you do.
      Whatever sewing machine you end up buying, I wish you a joyful time sewing.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello hello there :) a super interesting conversation thread! I can't say I have a ton to add except that my machine was indeed a gift from my husband and it is Singer Confidence 7470 and that is the only Singer machine I own, all other machines I have are Brother (looooove my serger and coverstitch, smooth, great to use). My Singer has served me well - but you have to take care of it. I was brave enough (don't suggest doing it though) a few years back when I had problems with it to unscrew it entirely and explore the insides. It has gotten a bit more loud over the years although I do oil it, but besides that - it is a good machine. Things like auto-cutter and auto-threader aren't necessarily on my radar as I don't use auto-threader but I do have auto-cutter on my other machine and it is nice. I think it does the job, would I buy it again? Honestly, I would just buy a machine that does straight stitch/zig-zag/buttonholes and has good tension adjustment dials. Years after my hubby gave me my machine as a gift we had a conversation about all sewing machines in general and I looked up the price for my Singer, my jaw dropped - I could not believe it costs around $400+ dollars. Wow. Being who I am, I would go for more basic but good, like B Hobbs said - something that would do basic functions super well and won't cause too many problems. That being said - my singer served me well for over 7 years, maybe going on 10 - I have lost count, but it does the job :) I hope this helps you!

    Hi, just learning to make t shirts. Have a nice new machine. It comes with a spare stretch needle. But do I require a special foot, or can I use the standard one? Fabric is pretty light weight. Thanks, love this tutorial 😊

    Thank you so much for posting this video. I am interested in painting 3" boldly colored stripes onto white cotton material for some t-shirts we are wanting to make. Because we are unable to find any material with 3" stripes we need to paint them. Would you be interested in creating a video for creating your own designs on material??

    Will this bodice work for cotton fabric

      No, if you copy a fitted t shirt and the fabric is knit/stretch - it is.onlu good for knit/stretch fabric, unless you will rework it and add ease and darts and etc.
