the actor made vaas, and he was so amazing, ubisoft made a whole game around him. and couldn't stop making the damn game over again and again for 10 years
29:56 man that was too funny lmaooo Also, this is such a great video, would absolutely love you to do more Far Cry related videos like this one. And also, I'm still waiting for you to finish the reboot trilogy of Tomb Raider with the Shadow of the Tomb Raider...
For me, it was throwing a guy into combat who had no experience and watching the PTSD take over. As someone who suffers from it myself, Ive never seen another game other than spec ops the line portray PTSD so accurately.
It's so refreshing and hilarious to see someone replicate Burn Dem instead of just masking the audio with other music or just not spending a lot of time on that point when covering one of my favourite games.
Seeing jason turn from someone scared of everything in the island to a killing machine was one of the best things about the game, vass was a cool villain i wish we got more of him throughout the story
Sir, I couldn't help but like this video for just your remix. Keep up the good work, love your reviews and am always waiting for a new one. Sorry it took a remix of yours for me to finally hit the like button but I always look forward to what you do.
As far as I'm aware cannon ending is saving your friends because there was a text or something in another far cry game that Jason goes back and gets prosecuted for his murders so yea
I think that was just something a fan of the games came up with. Besides that who would or could prosecute him for killing a bunch of soldiers in a war
The song at @30:00 alone makes you a GOAT 😂 out of all the far cry videos you’ve got the best copyright workaround that actually took some effort to make. Liked and subbed. Kudos bro 👌🏻
I always loved Angry Joe describing the tower climbing as giving you "that rising feeling in your balls". With no walls or solid floors you really got that sense of vertigo.
Love this video and I agree with everything you've said about the game, apart from the canon ending! After Jason is told Riley is dead, that is the last that was tying Jason to his old life. He snaps and wants nothing but revenge and to stay on the island. After discovering that Riley is still alive, that snaps Jason back into reality and again gives him a purpose other than revenge/being a powerful warrior. He has to do what he was doing at the start of the game, save someone he cares about. I believe that if Riley was dead, Jason definitely would have gone mad and joined Citra, and possibly killed his friends. But because his little brother is alive that makes Jason realize what he's become and after saving Riley and trying to return back to his friends, only to discover that Citra has kidnapped them and killed the doctor. He realizes that Citra is dangerous. Jason loves his brother and wouldn't kill him, he spent 2 thirds of the game looking for him, and after discovering he's alive, spent the rest of the game saving him. "Save your friends" ending is the canon ending
The save friends ending makes sense to me just because of riley, it is clear that jason cares for him even in the end of the game, sure, jason didnt want to leave the island, but if it costs riley's life, I just cant see him giving his brother life just to stay in the island, and he seems to care about his other friends too, liza's call in the end seems to mess with him
I want Jason and Liza's future son to go back only to realise his older half sister (Citra being the mum as we saw her get stabbed by Dennis but not die) has taken over the island and was waiting for him to get revenge on trying to kill her mother and uncle
Just finished the game. For me the ending was different. The final straw for him was hearing that they also murdered his brother. And finding out that he was actually alive, he got back to his senses. All of the sudden the idea of going back home isn't so bad. Though I can also see how he could just lose it and go psycho. All the traumatic sh*t that happened. Plus the ego boost he probably only got from the island (likely didn't get that back home since he didn't have any confidence before all that). This end is psychotic but it makes sense just as well. All in all I like how the story was written in a way that not one of the endings feel odd. Gameplay wise. For a 2012 game, this gameplay is still very enjoyable. It's just a more basic version of what we have in open world shooters today. Solid 9/10.
Having only first played "Far Cry 3" in the past few months, it's nice to see many of my thoughts echoed by someone who's played it since launch. Also, always happy to see a new Aqua video. Keep making fantastic content, and I hope more often after you're done school! Praying for 'Shadow of the Tomb Raider' video somewhere soon-ish down the line 🙏
50:00 I think you have somewhat misread the last act of the story. The crucial split is after jason discovers that Riley is alive. When the mask slips, it doesn't come back on in the same way. Jason's goal immediately shifts from "kill hoyt for citra and the rakyat" to "get riley out NOW." When sam points out that they'd never make it out alive, the goal becomes " dismantle hoyt's operation and kill him *because* it's the only way to save Riley" This is in stark contrast to the goal against vaas, "kill vaas for revenge/to prove I can/for citra and the rakyat." The assault on vaas's compound is 2/3rds for his own ego (really 3/3, because the rakyat and citra are just an excuse to do what he wants to do rather than a real justification). The decision to pursue hoyt onto the southern island was mired in similar motivations until Riley is discovered to be alive. Once Jason turns his gained power back towards a selfless goal, saving Riley, he makes his choice, the choice to save his friends. What this shows us is that Jason has prioritized using his strength for a good and selfless reason instead of the selfish, ego serving reasons that previously drove him. it's the difference between being insane and strong or being righteous and strong. Righteous may not be the right word there, but I've used selfless a lot already. Suffice it to say that one can be powerful without being stricken with madness. This is important because it is a sacrifice, being righteous is a disadvantage when faced with opponents that are similarly powerful but not shackled by that requirement. We see this in how hoyt leverages Riley against Jason in the final fight, something which might have worked more effectively if he hadn't panicked and told jason where Riley was hidden later during the fight. If he hadn't made the sacrifice of choosing to save riley, he could have just walked into the compound and killed hoyt at any time. he *would* have because his ego was so large he would be certain he'd survive. He has to do it the harder, right way, to give Riley a chance of surviving. Jason chose the harder but right path, which is why he does it again to save his friends at the end.
This is such a great vid, i think i will replay Far Cry 3 again. But the first time you play the game, see how weak you are and how you get stronger and stronger, its perfect, the game is perfect.
One thing I really missed in Far Cry 3 was the time lapse option in Far Cry 2 when you could schedule a watch for a specific time when using a bed and see the time transition, that was so cool
Fantastic analysis my man. This helps put into words the magic of hitting the absolute sweet spot in terms of fine tuning a great franchise. This one is special and definitely set the bar and pushed boundaries. I do wish more people talked about Primal and how it nailed the evolution and tone of the series as well as being surprisingly satisfying with taking the formula and applying it Neanderthal times. Cheers

I appreciate your critiques and while i dont always agree, your perspective makes me think about why i play/enjoy the games i do. Keep it up Aqua!

Ahh! This video is so good - made me so giddy and hyped for a 10+ year old game. Will you cover Shadow of the Tomb Raider? I really liked your first two videos on the trilogy.
how i wish far cry 2 had some of the mechanics FC3 and beyond have (mainly animal combat and actual stealth) I'm always so torn between if I like FC2 or 3 better because of that. FC2 deserves a respectful remaster.
I remember having an argument about the ending of the game, and I remember my friends having really good takes for being against the "Good" ending. My friend talked about how if Jason comes back what would he come back too? I said "he would come back to his family, a home, a job, a girlfriend." and he responded with "Responsibility, a 9-5, Bills and a Girlfriend who is constantly signing him up to therapy... Imagine doing everything he did, and not feeling guilty or sad about it, but actively enjoying it, what the hell is he going to tell the therapist when the therapist says "Oh don't worry Jason you were just defending you and your friends" meanwhile Jason has to tell her it didn't feel like that. Jason being stuck in a cubicle or factory line pushing either a pen or a lever, Jason going to the store and buying the same meal over and over and over again. Jason drinking and constantly looking at his finger wondering, "What if." Jason would try, he would, but no matter what he is going to snap, it would a crap ton of pills and therapy for Jason to feel like, well, the old Jason." I responded with "At LEAST he not six feet under." And my friend told me that at least in that ending he felt something, he died on top of the world and not old and brittle man put away in some room, tucked in a corner of a Retirement home he doesn't even know the name of.
1:18 I wouldn't say FC3 visuals barely aged. It's genuinely jarring going back to playing it again but I agree that the gameplay is still really good after all this time.
I enjoyed the character development of Jason Brody gradually becoming more and more desensitized to violence and bloodshed. It was great the whole way through but when you rescue Lisa (i believe it was her, its been a long time 😂) it hit all new heights. You're Flying off in a helicopter shooting rockets, blowing up trucks, mowing pirates and PMCs down with Heavy machine guns. All while laughing hysterically, shouting and undoubtedly smiling as he cuts down his opposition. Jason Brody is no longer fighting for survival, he's having the time of his life mercilessly killing his foes with frightening efficiency. Seeing how his friends react to this once squeamish, ordinary man revelling in war had tears in my eyes. It was truly just perfect. It was a glimpse atbthe innocence we had started with at the beginning of the game. To Jasons friends, we may as well have been Vaas, Jason was an entirely different man in the end.
this hands down is one of the best essays i ever watched rivaling even the 8-24 hours long ones, and u exactly know why. anyways i digress, can u release ur remix on spotify? xD
I’m sorry, but going back to 3 was such a striking moment of realization of how deeply nostalgic I was about the game. It’s themes of transformation and brutality are great, but never up to par with 2’s between the protagonist and the Jackal. It’s more explicit here, which is why I appreciate it less in hindsight. Also, this is when Ubisoft found massive success with it’s checklist open world formula after AC2 which now defines not only the Ubisoft formula, but most of the industry standard for what’s expected of open world games. TLDR Far Cry 3 was great when it came out, but looking back I don’t believe it even holds a candle to 2 and started negative trends in the industry
Imo yes saving your friends is the better ending, not because "It's morally correct" but because having Jason live on and deal with the reality of what his time on the island molded him into instead of fully succumb to it and be killed off after he fulfilled his role is far more compelling. I want characters to have to deal with the consequences of their decisions, I want to know Jason didn't just go through the motions but that he had to break the path laid out before him after seeing what he became and have to pick up the pieces afterwards, and I think it's far better and compelling of a conclusion to say he will continue to struggle to find peace after what he's been through rather than toss it all away for a quick demise soon after reaping the benefits of his self destructive pursuits... Also ngl the bad ending just being you getting stabbed to death immediately after nutting is just way too fucking hilarious to actually be a satisfying ending I'm sorry. Lmao

Lmao
Good job, & hope you feel better.
What a coincidence, I just beat Far Cry 3 for the first time on monday
Oh nice, did you like it?
Congrats 👏 I had the game ever since it came out but got deployed and never played again until I got a PC.😊
