Dying light is one of those games that I’ve always said I loved, but I couldn’t tell you a thing about the story. Also that first time when you’re stuck outside at night is one of the most iconic moments in any game
@@timfrank7461 how so? It is fictional but would this scenario not play out in the real world? I mean residential evil and other zombie games are just too unrealistic. But dying lights story seems the most realistic. I mean hello bioweapons already exists. Who says they can’t get a different strain of rabies (which is deadly to both humans and animals) and do bio warfare. It’s unlikely but it does exist in the possibilities in our actual world. It wasn’t the best story but I enjoy it way more than DL2

I love Zombie games, but they all get debunked with the human anatomy of rotting corpses decay along with all the diseases running ramped from rotting flesh that would kill the living eventually.
I remember the first time I tried fighting a Volatile I dropkicked it and it did nothing. That was the third most terrifying moment in the game for me, followed by every time there was a Volatile chase in the story
And personally I prefer how Dying Light 2 did the grappling hook. It's like I'm batman swooshing to the rooftops but Anorexic Spider-Man swinging around. Instead pulling myself like Scorpion on steroids
Was playinb with a friend and after shitting myself in the first story night time part, he told me volatiles are weak to shotguns. The fear i felt when i shot 6 bullets into a volatile only for it to stumble back a little, then lunge at me was unreal. Volatiles were so well done
I always remember the be the zombie was much fun and scary at the same time but the gameplay is spot on I love the mechanics it was built and the environment was amazing story was excellent and sad at the same time but overall still play it to this day
One time when my sister and brother-in-law came over to my house, I showed them the game and everything and my sister was like "Jesus I don't want to play that at night." so, close to dawn, I removed the music from the game and put "Yakety Sax" on TH-cam, I went to the streets after the volatiles and as soon as dawn came they ran to the caves, escaping, and I beating them with an iron pipe and a piece of wood on it's back while that song was playing, screaming "payback's a bitch, ain't it?" like Russel Casse in independence day. We pissed ourselves laughing so hard.
One thing I found pretty cool is how Brecken’s night run and injury in the story is actually shown in the Run Boy Run trailer. I loved the trailer when it came out and finding that nod in game when I finally got it felt kinda neat

Believe it or not the trailer was originally for a idea that was scrapped where you play as 4 character's Brehken being one of them jade, Carin like usual,and forgot the other character but sadly like I said was scrapped my guess they were going to have there own story's
I remember getting this game back when it first came out. It was for my birthday and my nana had bought it for me. I was obsessed with it. Played hours on end and it really holds a special place in my heart. Ever since my nana passed I go back to this game from time to time just to get that feeling again and remember the joy she brought to my childhood.

Dying Light did something that very few zombie games do. They made their zombies scary. In the Dead Rising or State of Decay series you literally just mow down hordes whereas if I see 3 or more viols coming for me I just run… and I don’t think any game I’ve ever played has a horror section of the game quite like the night time of this game. I truly feared it. When they give you the job of restarting electrical fuse boxes at night I genuinely got so stressed at trying to finish the quest while doing it before the sun came out and not getting caught because I was shitting myself
I’ve found that State of Decay two in particular hits a good balance. On the easier difficulties all zombies, including the special infected don’t feel like a huge threat. But you turn up the difficulty and you eventually get to the point where stealth is feasibly the only option if you don’t want to die a horrible death. The Standard difficulty is great for people wanting a Third-Person shooter zombie survival game. The Lethal difficulty is great for people wanting a Third-Person shooter stealth shooter with certain situations making your anxiety go through the roof. I find that those two difficulties is the feelings I get during the Day and Night of Dying Light respectively. It is a fun First-person Zombie shooter during the day. And the reason why I wear brown pants during the night.
Remember the quest where you need a sample of bolter's flesh? That sht stress me out because the mission was on night time and the bolter is heavily surrounded by volatiles that makes me packs anything I have to Molotov, crossbow and volatile hunter baton and still I end up panicking lmao when a volatile spotted me and it turns into a lvl 3 chase lmao. I even forgot liberating some safe houses before the quest and I end up spawning in the tower again.
Love how the game makes you feel deeply isolated... remember the first week of lockdown in 2020. Watching the empty streets reminded me of the game. The game sound effects, original sound track, the game dynamic, the immersive experience. This is one of the best games I've ever played!
i feel that man! Right before lockdown, I live in hawaii and its crazy how everyone was going about their day and I was on my way to meet my girlfriend. I was on the bus and watching the news there has been reports that covid in hawaii but doctors denied so there wouldn’t be any panic. I looked at everyone around me and out the window. I was sitting in the back if the bus so I had a full view. I felt I was in a movie of a zombie apocalypse the first few weeks before the outbreak. What a year Haha
Same here. Bustling city became deserted. It had the eerie feeling of apocalypse and i stockpiled on tons of stuff before lockdown like before sundown in DL1
When this dropped in 2015, it was a breath of fresh air, a mix of open world, zombies and parkour, plus the story wasn't too shabby and the combat and skill system was interesting. The following was just an icing to the cake introducing a brand new map with great quests and buggies.
Remember picking this game up after school when I was 17 now I live alone have a job and responsibilities and can play the not as good as the first one second part. Crazy how time flies.
Never played this game! I would have been 16-17 when this game dropped. Honestly video game mediocrity even back then took its toll on me. Didn't look twice at this game. but dayum looks like I missed out on a fun game
This is legitimately one of the best games ever but still underrated because it's never featured in the "Best of" compilations. The world, the gameplay is just perfect. It's just an absolute pleasure to exist in this world. And to think it got only above average reviews on release... I've played DL2 and while good it doesn't hold a candle to the original
The game itself is at best mediocore, that`s why it never made into a "Best of". The only thing the game actually has is the "open world" aspect with parkour involved in a zombie apocalypse. That`s the only thing which makes the game something special, otherwise it doesn`t shine in any other regards.

Even though these days most people have been playing Dying Light 2, I've bought Dying Light 1 + The Following and finished it for the first time (even though I saw it years ago on yt) and I gotta say - it holds up pretty damn well. The traversal and zombie's ragdoll mechanics give me sooo much fun. The story may not be the best, but it compensates with a charismatic protagonist. I'm proud that this is a product of a Polish studio that has one of their offices in my hometown (Ostrów Wielkopolski). We need more games like this one.
I liked both and i always find it weird how everyone else immediately hates the games just because of a few glitches and stuff, besides who doesn't wanna see a zombie beyblade as you drop kick a renegade of a building at mach 10
@@person803 best glitch I've had so far was swinging into a group of zombies with the grappling hook and drop kicking. Zombie both exploded and T posed, was just stuck in the air with his limbs detached in a T pose, truly magnificent
Easily one of my favorite games ever. I have replayed the story over a dozen times. The gameplay is some of the best I’ve ever played, and it’s easily in my top three games in terms of play time. It is one of my most favorite games ever and one that I go back to over and over again whenever I want to relax or just de stress after some tough times. I accidentally found this game at my library in March 2016. I then proceeded to have so much fun I renewed it until August of the same year. Then about two weeks later in September I got it for my birthday. One of my favorite games ever I found completely accidentally

16:44 I'm realizing just now, so many years after I last played dying light and now in dying light 2 I still tense up when opening closets thinking there could be a zombie inside. That there was only ever a zombie once.
Not only is this game worth playing if you’ve played Mirrors Edge and Dead Island, I’d almost say that its better to have played and enjoyed both before ever touching Dying Light, because then and only then will you be able to truly appreciate how two near polar opposites came together whilst never feeling wholly derivative of one or the other. It’s amazing to be able to feel the evolution in mechanics from your own experience, and having both inspirations under your belt will completely transform the way you see and play Dying Light.
What else is he going to do? Let them go so they'll wind up in somebody else's group, probably revealing any/all the secrets they may have learned about his organization? Supply points? Hierarchy? Weaknesses? Nah. In that world, if someone isn't consistently useful to you, they're only dangerous to you. Multiple people proved that to Crane with their rashness too, but he had gotten close to them. Rais's crew weren't close, they were doing what they thought they had to in order to survive.
There’s a few occasions where bombers just walk out a door or come round a corner or are there as you come around and when you’re going fast sometimes you just swing without realising and you’re gone

@@mr.2cents.846 I disagree. It can saves you from screwing up jumps and you can get across the map a little faster and more consistently then DL1’s grapple because it’s only limited by your stamina now which you can upgrade into oblivion.

35:29 just a random thought i decided to share, ive been replaying DL this past week, and the trick to dodging goons is just get up in their face and dodge left or right. They will miss every single time. Ive taken down the first goon you encounter with hardly any medkits and i havent played the game in 5 years, they’re easy once you know how to evade em, run circles around them and you’ll be dropping them like flies
1:19:00 once you find blueprints for lvl5 buggy parts and experimental(lvl6) parts, you mostly won't EVER repair them. as someone who spent more time in the following rather than in main campaign i can confirm this. edit: 1:22:18 nighthunter and mother are technically freaks of nature, so there's more variety than just size of a zombie.
2nd game is exactlt that: Packed with so much stuff it became tedious to micro manage it all + the story is arguably worse due to how the characters act I dont even know what accent they want to have.
It’s great and way better than the sequel. In fairness I’m comparing a game that got support for 7 years to a game that’s been out for just under a year… but most of the Dying Light community seems to have went back to playing Dying Light 1 over 2.
I played this when I was 12 I wanted it so bad and when I bought a xbox one It was the first game I bought. Incredible game definitely has so much nostalgia for me
I should definitely have it in my playlist of bangers, but it got pretty repetitive and got pretty sick of it. But every now and then when I hear it, it just puts a smile on my face as I think back of all the fun times I had. Truly a gaming masterpiece, and worthy of said title.
I think there's a lot to say about how good the upgrade trees in dying light are. Every upgrade is useful and you never feel like you're wasting upgrade points, and with how precious those points were, it made every level up feel like an important decision.

Imo lock picking is fine. It's simple and is actually pretty fun. Like in situations where you're camo'd trying to pick a lock, panicking you won't do it quick enough where it wears off and you're attscked. And the lock pick break sound just builds on that having to reset your locking position. A game mechanic so simple had me at the edge of my seat many times. Oh also, goons got WAY to much hate here. people struggling with goons attacks, DODGE. SIDEWAYS. the rebar sends a shockwave on purpose, and it only travels FORWARD from them. If you dodge backward it WILL hit you as it's meant to. (I will admit it's range is a bit overkill) You also can't dodge sideways too early, as the goon will just turn and hit you. This is even seen at 1:11:27, the first dodge was just too early needing a second one. When you dodge sideways at just the right time, not only do you dodge his attack, it actually leaves you closer to him, allowing you to get hits in when he's slumped over recovering his rebar, which also makes getting head hits easier.
We neeed more Co-op Campaign games like this because I have yet to see a single one come in close with progression + being able to coop the entire story with friends making it one of my favorite games of all time
I sank nearly 400 hours into this game before my extended hard drive corrupted somehow and lost it and so many other games This game honestly is one of the most fun I've ever played. I don't know why but it just felt like one giant jungle gym. It really is something special

I played Dying Light for the first time last month and it's hands down one of my favourite games ever. The movement and the development of the "flight" option is insanely designed. Even after 7 years, the controls are still holding up to this day and they are as smooth as ever.
This game causes sweaty palms unlike any other. There was a side quest where I had to pause, stand up, and move around a bit away from my desk because I was getting so damn anxious lol... It’s a side quest where you’re sent to go get these big 10 kilowatt bulbs from the bridge so they can be used at the Tower. Your first thought is “typical side quest nonsense, easy enough, it’s just bulbs…” … until you’re told you need to do it at night so you can see which ones are working since there’s a number of them. So, I’m thinking …. okay, that’s crappy, but whatever. I’ve been through the night before, right? But imagine: you get to the bridge and forgot that it’s covered in zombies - many packed in one area, looking for where you need to get these bulbs. There they are: high up up top, shining down on the bridge’s roadway, and you are going to have to climb all the way up to get them. Fun. You came right before dusk, so night is coming. Right as you’re making your way to the top, hanging off the side, your watch is beeping. Once you get there, it’s not a solid platform to freely walk around in back and forth. You have to skirt around the small concrete beams, swaying back and forth to keep yourself straight, and your character is walking out ON to the fixtures to open them and get the bulbs out. When you take one out that’s working, your character is then electrocuted until you move away, but watch your step! Don’t move too much. Since a bulb that was used to keep volatiles away is now removed, you start seeing them appear on the map below in the dark areas. So there you are, crouched, slowly getting around the beams, taking out bulbs … Once you get them on that platform, you realize, “oh … I still have to get more…” and you look up realizing you have to climb up even higher to skirt around the same styled beams again. Doesn’t help that there jump-scares with zombies bursting out of the doors up top, causing you to come so close to falling off while fighting them. My anxiety was through the roof with that mission. It being so high up paired with the night …. even though it’s just a video game, I still get that sense of vertigo with heights. It makes my palms sweaty and I feel lightheaded like I am actually there. I have to raise my hands up from my mouse constantly to let air hit them and I’m cursing myself with each step forward lol. I had never been SO DAMN glad to see a mission say I had completed the task of collecting items so I could zip-line my way off that damn platform lol. That missions always stuck with me (along with getting the mayor’s seal in Old Town … creepy place). A mission that just appears as a simple fetch quest became so damn memorable for me... Another mission that actually got a laugh out of me was when you go to help Rupert. His wife is in the basement. You’re led to believe this is an extremely dangerous situation, you hear all these noises and have to move around in the dark. A health kit is on the floor out from the door you need to go through, making you think there is something major in there like a volatile …. until you open it, and it’s just the standard run of the mill zombie you can take down with one hit lol. So much build-up. Going through replaying the game now and personally think it holds up quiet well. I don’t even like zombie games and am so sick of the genre as a whole, but Dying Light sets itself apart to where it feels like it’s in its own category.
Seeing you talk about how later on you are an unstoppable force of nature and aren't afraid of volatiles anymore REALLY highlights for me how bad I am at video games. I was never not scared of the night
As common as zombies are in gaming, very few allow you to play as them and dying light nailed zombie gameplay. It was easily my favorite part about the first game.
Be the zombie was honestly awesome sadly the gamemode was a failure due to modded weapons and that zombies were horribly weak compared to a group with more than 2 then in the following dlc just destroys pretty much any chance of beating humans due to cars and hives spawning where car can drive
@@sandornagy3484 I was never really a pvp person so I didn't play much of be the zombie but I was kinda disappointed it never came back for dl2, imagine the night hunter with such a vertical reach in the city with open interiors now

I was a huge fan of Dead Island back when it first released. Despite that, I didn’t play Dying Light until recently. Safe to say I felt right at home but with even more freedom due to the fluidity of movement. Easily one of the best games ever made 10/10
I personally loved the story of dying light. I loved Kyle's character who showed a lot more development than most gaming protagonists nowadays. I thought he was witty, and he made me laugh more than a handful of times. I also thought the story went perfectly hand in hand with the world you were in during the whole game. That whole "dying light is great but the story sucks" argument is so overdone and people just need to appreciate it for what it is rather than saying the exact same shit everyone else has already said 100 times over. Other than that, I enjoyed this review a lot, keep up the good work!
@@causticcoconut715 agreed. I feel that the way the GRE and the government handled the THV is pretty realistic to how I think they would handle it in real life. I always end up enjoying more of the story happening around me though (in this case is the survivors struggle for supplies and antizin). It was neat seeing how fine the line in the story was with mixing political influence with the fight for survival.

Haven't finished video, but just passed the rant on goons. The trick I found was hit twice (depending attack speed), dodge back enough to get out of the overhead swing, and jump before the shockwave comes out. Worked 90% of the time, and the times it didn't work was from an interrupted attack.
This is actually a really enjoyable video I zoned out on this and watched the whole thing and I must say that I’m not disappointed at all this was such a good way of describing this game
That thing was not a grappling hook. It was the Bathook. Dear lord did I love that thing. Really the best part of the game was killing zombies. I absolutely fell in love with that game. The bathook was physics breaking but it did save my azz a number of times when I jumped off a roof and otherwise would have died but grappling the ground saved me. The story gets far more hate than it deserves. It had a clearly defined villain, good characters, and actual motivation behind actions. Edit: OH HELL NAW! Don't tell people to not kill them. THAT challenge is half the fun of the combat. Dear lord, me and my friends had so much fun with it we only did dark zones and GRE facilities in DL2 during the day and the volatiles are MORE boss in the sequel. What made the combat so great was its fluidity and the fact that you had a clear progression from when you were weak and couldn't take on the volatiles to when you were strong AF and on the level of volatiles. You are never so boss yourself that volatiles were weak but you could clearly fight them. They gave decent money and higher level loot too. I mean, I maxed out single hand and two hand weapons in the legend levels as fast as I could because I loved fighting the volatiles. Now, there really wasn't a reason to farm them like in the sequel. DL2 kinda killed the fun of chases and then incentivized farming of the virals, volatiles as well but to a lesser degree.
After wrapping up dying light 2, it made me realize how much more I enjoyed this game. Some elements were made better by the sequel, but the combat and grappling hook in the OG felt so much smoother.
I agree. I think the parkour is better in the second. But there is something about the first just sets it up higher for me. Maybe I'm just nostalgic about it because it was my first dying light
My feelings exactly. I bought the ultimate edition, I planned to give techland money because I love DL. After beating it the first time I haven’t played it much since. I enjoy some updates rpg mechanics, but I’ve been back in Harran ever since lol. It just doesn’t feel the way the original does to me. Plus I prefer the story. One man dropped in the middle of a brand new deadly situation where there’s lots of propaganda and power struggles.
The grappling hook in 1 was actually terrible, it was so horribly designed. It wasn't even a grappling hook, it was just a hook! You looked at someone, pressed a button and it would immediately drag you towards that building in a straight, rigid line.
30:38 Crafting loading times are useless when playing on normal or easy difficulty. When playing on hard or nightmare difficulty, the Game Menu doesn’t pause the game like it does for Normal and Easy. Crafting items in the middle of a horde or chase at night no longer becomes viable which justifies the crafting loading times.
the first night outside was really the best if not the one of the best moments ive had in any games. i was trying to speedrun the story cuz i was really loving the game and at the point, i totally forgot that i could use flashlight. thus the first night outside was really a nightmare for me but miraculously i didnt die. i managed to get back to the tower by using the very dim light we get from using survivor sense. the way i kept pressing Q rapidly and running gave me so much fun. Even tho there r bugs and bugs everywhere, the game still stands as one of the most memorable games in my heart.
It really is great. Once you get higher quality parts for the buggy it really doesn't break that fast. And I love holding the turbo button before hitting the gas. It really catapuls the car forward and you in the seat.
got the game on sell about a 3 months ago and couldn’t put it down , made me a fan of the series instantly and i had to buy dying light 2 on release , this game is honestly in my top 5 games ever it’s so fun
one thing that made esp the end-game more engaging and worked around the Agility-experience issue you mentioned for me was the fact that im extremely reluctant to use things that get consumed. in practice that means that i would almost never use a melee weapon, and a gun only on goons or humans, resorting to getting an enemy to the ground and then finishing them for everything else. this made the combat-encounters much more calculated, as a finisher also leaves you unable to move for a second. the specific placements and formations of biters had to be analysed and taken advantage of.
When i first played this game as a 9 year old not knowing anything that’s going on the game. The gameplay and the cinematic scenes alone was so good and beautiful(not all of it but)I remembered it being a masterpiece to this day truly one of the best and YOU my friend made me so damn nostalgic. so, basically while watching this I started tearing without noticing. this game means a lot to me. I loved the hell out of it in coop with my ex and since then I couldn't play it again because of what it means to me. I remember playing it the first time when it was just released, I was scared of it and I was refusing to play it. I decided to bought it for my ex years later cause it was criminally cheap and we had a blast.I miss this game so much because I'm attached to it and those memories are the reason why I'm not able to play it again. it's hard but this vid remembered me why I or we loved the crap out of it. keep it up, dude! also, I'm happy to know that there's an active community, maybe I'll be able to slowly start replaying it with em! I played this game while my father was gone on hospice. Flinging around like spiderman and taking out my emotions on zombies was what I needed. Haven't picked it up since. Been 6+years. Love the game and love dl2 though

I'm loving them.
Dude I played this game way back in 8th grade almost 8 years ago now. At the time my parents were going through a divorce and they had bought a big house together shortly before they divorced so I would often fine myself very lonely in a 5 bedroom house with just 3 people in it. (I had a sibling and mother) Anyways, it was a very tough and depressing time in my life but this game really gave me a lot of happiness and allowed me to escape (in a way) the changes in my life that I was dealing with at the time. Sometimes if I really try to remember the times I played this game back then, I can almost feel the sadness that younger me felt at that time in my life. I totally understand what you're saying man.
Although I may be a little late with the advice I still hope it may be useful to someone. If backwards dodges aren't helping with the goon or any other enemy try sideways dodging. You say the goon always hits you even when you dodge but I've always seen that you dodge backwards. Yes, the hitboxes may be broken and way to long but their width is small and you should be able to dodge them pretty easily.

Having watched this and your video on Sleeping Dogs, I think it would be awesome if you made a video about Days Gone. The two biggest reasons being that I think it is a severely under appreciated PS4 game and because it has one of the biggest differences in critic and fan reception that I have ever seen. When I first played this game and looked out the window in the starting apartment I WAS blown away by the graphics. It looked so realistic in terms of colors and contrast, that it was like looking out of a real window.
I remember seeing YouAlwaysWin playing this game when i was in 5th grade and something about exploring old town and the grappling hook instantly got me invested. I ended up getting it and loving it. I rebought the game multiple times and it still remains one of my favorite games
The movement alone is enough of a reason to play this, it has such a similar control scheme as mirrors edge, i love it man. I havnt finished the tutorial but im almost maxed out perk wise for movement and fighting lol. I cant wait to actually get into it proper, but im having so much fun just running around the city, learning new moves via upgrades, kill some zombies,and just fuck around.

Love the review this has always been one of my fav games, I haven't finished the video yet might edit comments when I finish it, but I just wanted to put my experience out there with the janky ass hit box's from the goon's, dodging to the side instead of backwards has a slightly better chance of avoiding it's shockwave but even then I can't say it's consistent just hoping so save anyone any amount of frustration

I genuinely hate the bombers because it feels like they are tailor made to punish you for going fast... The entire fucking POINT OF THE GAME! "Oh man I feel so awesome going fast, out of my way zombi- oh that was a bomber and now I'm dead." They didn't feel engaging, they felt enraging.
I was so mad when Jade had to turn because I remembered that Crane had a vile of antizin so I wanted to give the cure to Jade and then switch out the vile. I liked jade for as little interaction as they had, but them man the spare vile in Crane's pocket.
I’m glad you made this video. I truly love this game, it might be my favorite of all time. I’ve beat DL2, and in some ways I like how they made improvements…but it still doesn’t touch the original .

For the Goon, you can either use the dropkick or that push which you can run over enemies, you can also combine those two, it's pretty effective. Run over, evade, and then dropkick.
I bought the definitive edition about 2 weeks ago and I'm loving it, already beat the story and 90% done with the following. This is one of the most unique games I have ever played and it's in my top 5 games of all time

I cheezed this game by using the ranger bow from the dlc, it’s a max level unbreakable bow that is easy to craft by just searching trash cans and the arrows are even easier

But dying lights story seems the most realistic. I mean hello bioweapons already exists. It wasn’t the best story but I enjoy it way more than DL2

I love Zombie games, but they all get debunked with the human anatomy of rotting corpses decay along with all the diseases running ramped from rotting flesh that would kill the living eventually.
I remember the first time I tried fighting a Volatile I dropkicked it and it did nothing. That was the third most terrifying moment in the game for me, followed by every time there was a Volatile chase in the story
And personally I prefer how Dying Light 2 did the grappling hook. It's like I'm batman swooshing to the rooftops but Anorexic Spider-Man swinging around. Instead pulling myself like Scorpion on steroids
Was playinb with a friend and after shitting myself in the first story night time part, he told me volatiles are weak to shotguns. The fear i felt when i shot 6 bullets into a volatile only for it to stumble back a little, then lunge at me was unreal. Volatiles were so well done
I always remember the be the zombie was much fun and scary at the same time but the gameplay is spot on I love the mechanics it was built and the environment was amazing story was excellent and sad at the same time but overall still play it to this day

One time when my sister and brother-in-law came over to my house, I showed them the game and everything and my sister was like "Jesus I don't want to play that at night." so, close to dawn, I removed the music from the game and put "Yakety Sax" on TH-cam, I went to the streets after the volatiles and as soon as dawn came they ran to the caves, escaping, and I beating them with an iron pipe and a piece of wood on it's back while that song was playing, screaming "payback's a bitch, ain't it?" like Russel Casse in independence day. We pissed ourselves laughing so hard.
One thing I found pretty cool is how Brecken’s night run and injury in the story is actually shown in the Run Boy Run trailer. I loved the trailer when it came out and finding that nod in game when I finally got it felt kinda neat

Believe it or not the trailer was originally for a idea that was scrapped where you play as 4 character's Brehken being one of them jade, Carin like usual,and forgot the other character but sadly like I said was scrapped my guess they were going to have there own story's
I remember getting this game back when it first came out. It was for my birthday and my nana had bought it for me. I was obsessed with it. Played hours on end and it really holds a special place in my heart. Ever since my nana passed I go back to this game from time to time just to get that feeling again and remember the joy she brought to my childhood.

Dying Light did something that very few zombie games do. They made their zombies scary. In the Dead Rising or State of Decay series you literally just mow down hordes whereas if I see 3 or more viols coming for me I just run… and I don’t think any game I’ve ever played has a horror section of the game quite like the night time of this game. I truly feared it. When they give you the job of restarting electrical fuse boxes at night I genuinely got so stressed at trying to finish the quest while doing it before the sun came out and not getting caught because I was shitting myself
And the game made you overpowered as hell late game once you get your legend level maxed out, fantastic progression system
Left for Dead: OH so zombies are supposed to be scary? Nah, just make them AMOGEESE.
I’ve found that State of Decay two in particular hits a good balance. On the easier difficulties all zombies, including the special infected don’t feel like a huge threat. But you turn up the difficulty and you eventually get to the point where stealth is feasibly the only option if you don’t want to die a horrible death.
The Standard difficulty is great for people wanting a Third-Person shooter zombie survival game.
The Lethal difficulty is great for people wanting a Third-Person shooter stealth shooter with certain situations making your anxiety go through the roof.
I find that those two difficulties is the feelings I get during the Day and Night of Dying Light respectively.
It is a fun First-person Zombie shooter during the day. And the reason why I wear brown pants during the night.

Remember the quest where you need a sample of bolter's flesh? That sht stress me out because the mission was on night time and the bolter is heavily surrounded by volatiles that makes me packs anything I have to Molotov, crossbow and volatile hunter baton and still I end up panicking lmao when a volatile spotted me and it turns into a lvl 3 chase lmao. I even forgot liberating some safe houses before the quest and I end up spawning in the tower again.
Love how the game makes you feel deeply isolated... remember the first week of lockdown in 2020. Watching the empty streets reminded me of the game.
The game sound effects, original sound track, the game dynamic, the immersive experience. This is one of the best games I've ever played!

I was on the bus and watching the news there has been reports that covid in hawaii but doctors denied so there wouldn’t be any panic. I looked at everyone around me and out the window. I was sitting in the back if the bus so I had a full view. I felt I was in a movie of a zombie apocalypse the first few weeks before the outbreak. What a year Haha
Same here. Bustling city became deserted. It had the eerie feeling of apocalypse and i stockpiled on tons of stuff before lockdown like before sundown in DL1
When this dropped in 2015, it was a breath of fresh air, a mix of open world, zombies and parkour, plus the story wasn't too shabby and the combat and skill system was interesting. The following was just an icing to the cake introducing a brand new map with great quests and buggies.

This is legitimately one of the best games ever but still underrated because it's never featured in the "Best of" compilations. The world, the gameplay is just perfect. It's just an absolute pleasure to exist in this world. And to think it got only above average reviews on release... I've played DL2 and while good it doesn't hold a candle to the original

The game itself is at best mediocore, that`s why it never made into a "Best of". The only thing the game actually has is the "open world" aspect with parkour involved in a zombie apocalypse. That`s the only thing which makes the game something special, otherwise it doesn`t shine in any other regards.

Even though these days most people have been playing Dying Light 2, I've bought Dying Light 1 + The Following and finished it for the first time (even though I saw it years ago on yt) and I gotta say - it holds up pretty damn well. The traversal and zombie's ragdoll mechanics give me sooo much fun. The story may not be the best, but it compensates with a charismatic protagonist. I'm proud that this is a product of a Polish studio that has one of their offices in my hometown (Ostrów Wielkopolski). We need more games like this one.
Unfortunately the sequel doesn't hold up as of yet

Easily one of my favorite games ever. I have replayed the story over a dozen times. The gameplay is some of the best I’ve ever played, and it’s easily in my top three games in terms of play time. It is one of my most favorite games ever and one that I go back to over and over again whenever I want to relax or just de stress after some tough times. I accidentally found this game at my library in March 2016. I then proceeded to have so much fun I renewed it until August of the same year. Then about two weeks later in September I got it for my birthday. One of my favorite games ever I found completely accidentally

16:44 I'm realizing just now, so many years after I last played dying light and now in dying light 2 I still tense up when opening closets thinking there could be a zombie inside. That there was only ever a zombie once.
Not only is this game worth playing if you’ve played Mirrors Edge and Dead Island, I’d almost say that its better to have played and enjoyed both before ever touching Dying Light, because then and only then will you be able to truly appreciate how two near polar opposites came together whilst never feeling wholly derivative of one or the other. It’s amazing to be able to feel the evolution in mechanics from your own experience, and having both inspirations under your belt will completely transform the way you see and play Dying Light.
Each time Rais killed one of his henchmen, I viewed it through a lense of "Your weakness nearly got me killed." And to me, it makes REALLY good sense.
What else is he going to do? Let them go so they'll wind up in somebody else's group, probably revealing any/all the secrets they may have learned about his organization? Supply points? Hierarchy? Weaknesses?
Nah. In that world, if someone isn't consistently useful to you, they're only dangerous to you. Multiple people proved that to Crane with their rashness too, but he had gotten close to them. Rais's crew weren't close, they were doing what they thought they had to in order to survive.

@@mr.2cents.846 I disagree. It can saves you from screwing up jumps and you can get across the map a little faster and more consistently then DL1’s grapple because it’s only limited by your stamina now which you can upgrade into oblivion.

just a random thought i decided to share, ive been replaying DL this past week, and the trick to dodging goons is just get up in their face and dodge left or right. They will miss every single time. Ive taken down the first goon you encounter with hardly any medkits and i havent played the game in 5 years, they’re easy once you know how to evade em, run circles around them and you’ll be dropping them like flies

1:19:00 once you find blueprints for lvl5 buggy parts and experimental(lvl6) parts, you mostly won't EVER repair them. as someone who spent more time in the following rather than in main campaign i can confirm this.
edit: 1:22:18 nighthunter and mother are technically freaks of nature, so there's more variety than just size of a zombie.
This game seems packed and loaded full of content without gimmicks which is impressive.
2nd game is exactlt that: Packed with so much stuff it became tedious to micro manage it all

I played this when I was 12 I wanted it so bad and when I bought a xbox one It was the first game I bought. Incredible game definitely has so much nostalgia for me
I should definitely have it in my playlist of bangers, but it got pretty repetitive and got pretty sick of it. But every now and then when I hear it, it just puts a smile on my face as I think back of all the fun times I had. Truly a gaming masterpiece, and worthy of said title.

I think there's a lot to say about how good the upgrade trees in dying light are. Every upgrade is useful and you never feel like you're wasting upgrade points, and with how precious those points were, it made every level up feel like an important decision.

Imo lock picking is fine. It's simple and is actually pretty fun. Like in situations where you're camo'd trying to pick a lock, panicking you won't do it quick enough where it wears off and you're attscked. And the lock pick break sound just builds on that having to reset your locking position. A game mechanic so simple had me at the edge of my seat many times. Oh also, goons got WAY to much hate here. people struggling with goons attacks, DODGE. SIDEWAYS. the rebar sends a shockwave on purpose, and it only travels FORWARD from them. If you dodge backward it WILL hit you as it's meant to. (I will admit it's range is a bit overkill) You also can't dodge sideways too early, as the goon will just turn and hit you. This is even seen at 1:11:27, the first dodge was just too early needing a second one. When you dodge sideways at just the right time, not only do you dodge his attack, it actually leaves you closer to him, allowing you to get hits in when he's slumped over recovering his rebar, which also makes getting head hits easier.
We neeed more Co-op Campaign games like this because I have yet to see a single one come in close with progression + being able to coop the entire story with friends making it one of my favorite games of all time

I played Dying Light for the first time last month and it's hands down one of my favourite games ever. The movement and the development of the "flight" option is insanely designed. Even after 7 years, the controls are still holding up to this day and they are as smooth as ever.

This game causes sweaty palms unlike any other. There was a side quest where I had to pause, stand up, and move around a bit away from my desk because I was getting so damn anxious lol...
It’s a side quest where you’re sent to go get these big 10 kilowatt bulbs from the bridge so they can be used at the Tower. Your first thought is “typical side quest nonsense, easy enough, it’s just bulbs…”
… until you’re told you need to do it at night so you can see which ones are working since there’s a number of them. So, I’m thinking …. okay, that’s crappy, but whatever. I’ve been through the night before, right?
But imagine: you get to the bridge and forgot that it’s covered in zombies - many packed in one area, looking for where you need to get these bulbs. There they are: high up up top, shining down on the bridge’s roadway, and you are going to have to climb all the way up to get them. Fun.
You came right before dusk, so night is coming. Right as you’re making your way to the top, hanging off the side, your watch is beeping.
Once you get there, it’s not a solid platform to freely walk around in back and forth. You have to skirt around the small concrete beams, swaying back and forth to keep yourself straight, and your character is walking out ON to the fixtures to open them and get the bulbs out. When you take one out that’s working, your character is then electrocuted until you move away, but watch your step! Don’t move too much.
Since a bulb that was used to keep volatiles away is now removed, you start seeing them appear on the map below in the dark areas.
So there you are, crouched, slowly getting around the beams, taking out bulbs …
Once you get them on that platform, you realize, “oh … I still have to get more…” and you look up realizing you have to climb up even higher to skirt around the same styled beams again.
Doesn’t help that there jump-scares with zombies bursting out of the doors up top, causing you to come so close to falling off while fighting them.
My anxiety was through the roof with that mission. It being so high up paired with the night …. even though it’s just a video game, I still get that sense of vertigo with heights. It makes my palms sweaty and I feel lightheaded like I am actually there. I have to raise my hands up from my mouse constantly to let air hit them and I’m cursing myself with each step forward lol.
I had never been SO DAMN glad to see a mission say I had completed the task of collecting items so I could zip-line my way off that damn platform lol.
That missions always stuck with me (along with getting the mayor’s seal in Old Town … creepy place). A mission that just appears as a simple fetch quest became so damn memorable for me...
Another mission that actually got a laugh out of me was when you go to help Rupert. His wife is in the basement. You’re led to believe this is an extremely dangerous situation, you hear all these noises and have to move around in the dark. A health kit is on the floor out from the door you need to go through, making you think there is something major in there like a volatile …. until you open it, and it’s just the standard run of the mill zombie you can take down with one hit lol. So much build-up.
Going through replaying the game now and personally think it holds up quiet well. I don’t even like zombie games and am so sick of the genre as a whole, but Dying Light sets itself apart to where it feels like it’s in its own category.
one thing I particularly love is how they make "drops" a literal acronym instead of just "oh, you know, in-game drops".
Seeing you talk about how later on you are an unstoppable force of nature and aren't afraid of volatiles anymore REALLY highlights for me how bad I am at video games. I was never not scared of the night
As common as zombies are in gaming, very few allow you to play as them and dying light nailed zombie gameplay. It was easily my favorite part about the first game.
Be the zombie was honestly awesome sadly the gamemode was a failure due to modded weapons and that zombies were horribly weak compared to a group with more than 2 then in the following dlc just destroys pretty much any chance of beating humans due to cars and hives spawning where car can drive
@@sandornagy3484 I was never really a pvp person so I didn't play much of be the zombie but I was kinda disappointed it never came back for dl2, imagine the night hunter with such a vertical reach in the city with open interiors now
@@dragonmaster3030 personally the pvp of be the monster i enjoyed i tend not to enjoy them in games like ark but shooters and dying light i loved it especially due to the atmosphere of the whole thing

I was a huge fan of Dead Island back when it first released. Despite that, I didn’t play Dying Light until recently. Safe to say I felt right at home but with even more freedom due to the fluidity of movement. Easily one of the best games ever made 10/10
I personally loved the story of dying light. I loved Kyle's character who showed a lot more development than most gaming protagonists nowadays. I thought he was witty, and he made me laugh more than a handful of times. I also thought the story went perfectly hand in hand with the world you were in during the whole game. That whole "dying light is great but the story sucks" argument is so overdone and people just need to appreciate it for what it is rather than saying the exact same shit everyone else has already said 100 times over. Other than that, I enjoyed this review a lot, keep up the good work!
I also loved the plot! One of the things i loved ab it was the political ramifications of a massive outbreak and the science behind THV!
@@causticcoconut715 agreed. I feel that the way the GRE and the government handled the THV is pretty realistic to how I think they would handle it in real life. I always end up enjoying more of the story happening around me though (in this case is the survivors struggle for supplies and antizin). It was neat seeing how fine the line in the story was with mixing political influence with the fight for survival.
I don't think I'd love Kyle Crane if he wasn't voiced by RCS. That man makes the simplistic writing feel so much better.

Playing this game right now and just noticed about the banner “thank you for 7 years” best game ever
Haven't finished video, but just passed the rant on goons. The trick I found was hit twice (depending attack speed), dodge back enough to get out of the overhead swing, and jump before the shockwave comes out. Worked 90% of the time, and the times it didn't work was from an interrupted attack.
The amount of work, dedication, and love for this video.... it brings a tear to my eye. Thanks man, hope you get the recognition you deserve.
This is actually a really enjoyable video I zoned out on this and watched the whole thing and I must say that I’m not disappointed at all this was such a good way of describing this game
That thing was not a grappling hook. It was the Bathook. Dear lord did I love that thing. Really the best part of the game was killing zombies. I absolutely fell in love with that game. The bathook was physics breaking but it did save my azz a number of times when I jumped off a roof and otherwise would have died but grappling the ground saved me. The story gets far more hate than it deserves. It had a clearly defined villain, good characters, and actual motivation behind actions.
Edit: OH HELL NAW! Don't tell people to not kill them. THAT challenge is half the fun of the combat. Dear lord, me and my friends had so much fun with it we only did dark zones and GRE facilities in DL2 during the day and the volatiles are MORE boss in the sequel. What made the combat so great was its fluidity and the fact that you had a clear progression from when you were weak and couldn't take on the volatiles to when you were strong AF and on the level of volatiles. You are never so boss yourself that volatiles were weak but you could clearly fight them. They gave decent money and higher level loot too. I mean, I maxed out single hand and two hand weapons in the legend levels as fast as I could because I loved fighting the volatiles. Now, there really wasn't a reason to farm them like in the sequel. DL2 kinda killed the fun of chases and then incentivized farming of the virals, volatiles as well but to a lesser degree.

After wrapping up dying light 2, it made me realize how much more I enjoyed this game. Some elements were made better by the sequel, but the combat and grappling hook in the OG felt so much smoother.
I agree. I think the parkour is better in the second. But there is something about the first just sets it up higher for me. Maybe I'm just nostalgic about it because it was my first dying light
My feelings exactly. I bought the ultimate edition, I planned to give techland money because I love DL. After beating it the first time I haven’t played it much since. I enjoy some updates rpg mechanics, but I’ve been back in Harran ever since lol. It just doesn’t feel the way the original does to me. Plus I prefer the story. One man dropped in the middle of a brand new deadly situation where there’s lots of propaganda and power struggles.
The grappling hook in 1 was actually terrible, it was so horribly designed. It wasn't even a grappling hook, it was just a hook! You looked at someone, pressed a button and it would immediately drag you towards that building in a straight, rigid line.

30:38 Crafting loading times are useless when playing on normal or easy difficulty. When playing on hard or nightmare difficulty, the Game Menu doesn’t pause the game like it does for Normal and Easy. Crafting items in the middle of a horde or chase at night no longer becomes viable which justifies the crafting loading times.
the first night outside was really the best if not the one of the best moments ive had in any games. i was trying to speedrun the story cuz i was really loving the game and at the point, i totally forgot that i could use flashlight. thus the first night outside was really a nightmare for me but miraculously i didnt die. i managed to get back to the tower by using the very dim light we get from using survivor sense. the way i kept pressing Q rapidly and running gave me so much fun.
Even tho there r bugs and bugs everywhere, the game still stands as one of the most memorable games in my heart.
Dead Island was my gateway into Techland, I firmly believe Dying Light is DI2

It really is great. Once you get higher quality parts for the buggy it really doesn't break that fast. And I love holding the turbo button before hitting the gas. It really catapuls the car forward and you in the seat.

A good fix for the Goon hit boxes, is to instead of dodging backwards, dodge to the sides, it’s always worked for me

got the game on sell about a 3 months ago and couldn’t put it down , made me a fan of the series instantly and i had to buy dying light 2 on release , this game is honestly in my top 5 games ever it’s so fun
i love this video. i usually don’t watch the “xx years later” game analysis, but this one is an absolute masterpiece
one thing that made esp the end-game more engaging and worked around the Agility-experience issue you mentioned for me was the fact that im extremely reluctant to use things that get consumed. in practice that means that i would almost never use a melee weapon, and a gun only on goons or humans, resorting to getting an enemy to the ground and then finishing them for everything else. this made the combat-encounters much more calculated, as a finisher also leaves you unable to move for a second. the specific placements and formations of biters had to be analysed and taken advantage of.
When i first played this game as a 9 year old not knowing anything that’s going on the game. The gameplay and the cinematic scenes alone was so good and beautiful(not all of it but)I remembered it being a masterpiece to this day truly one of the best and YOU my friend made me so damn nostalgic. so, basically while watching this I started tearing without noticing. this game means a lot to me. I loved the hell out of it in coop with my ex and since then I couldn't play it again because of what it means to me. I remember playing it the first time when it was just released, I was scared of it and I was refusing to play it. I decided to bought it for my ex years later cause it was criminally cheap and we had a blast.I miss this game so much because I'm attached to it and those memories are the reason why I'm not able to play it again. it's hard but this vid remembered me why I or we loved the crap out of it. keep it up, dude!

I played this game while my father was gone on hospice. Flinging around like spiderman and taking out my emotions on zombies was what I needed. Haven't picked it up since. Been 6+years. Love the game and love dl2 though

Dude I played this game way back in 8th grade almost 8 years ago now. At the time my parents were going through a divorce and they had bought a big house together shortly before they divorced so I would often fine myself very lonely in a 5 bedroom house with just 3 people in it. (I had a sibling and mother) Anyways, it was a very tough and depressing time in my life but this game really gave me a lot of happiness and allowed me to escape (in a way) the changes in my life that I was dealing with at the time. Sometimes if I really try to remember the times I played this game back then, I can almost feel the sadness that younger me felt at that time in my life. I totally understand what you're saying man.

Although I may be a little late with the advice I still hope it may be useful to someone. If backwards dodges aren't helping with the goon or any other enemy try sideways dodging. You say the goon always hits you even when you dodge but I've always seen that you dodge backwards. Yes, the hitboxes may be broken and way to long but their width is small and you should be able to dodge them pretty easily.

When I first played this game and looked out the window in the starting apartment I WAS blown away by the graphics. It looked so realistic in terms of colors and contrast, that it was like looking out of a real window.

I remember seeing YouAlwaysWin playing this game when i was in 5th grade and something about exploring old town and the grappling hook instantly got me invested. I ended up getting it and loving it. I rebought the game multiple times and it still remains one of my favorite games

The movement alone is enough of a reason to play this, it has such a similar control scheme as mirrors edge, i love it man. I havnt finished the tutorial but im almost maxed out perk wise for movement and fighting lol. I cant wait to actually get into it proper, but im having so much fun just running around the city, learning new moves via upgrades, kill some zombies,and just fuck around.

Love the review this has always been one of my fav games, I haven't finished the video yet might edit comments when I finish it, but I just wanted to put my experience out there with the janky ass hit box's from the goon's, dodging to the side instead of backwards has a slightly better chance of avoiding it's shockwave but even then I can't say it's consistent just hoping so save anyone any amount of frustration
Love dying light, the combat, parkour, story and being crane and learning new skills is just want I want in a game, been loving this game since 2017 and man it’s a masterpiece ❤️

The endings of the Following are honestly nightmare fuel, and truly petrifying to witness. And every second I looked at the Mother I was shitting my fucking pants she was so disturbing and terrifying.

I was so mad when Jade had to turn because I remembered that Crane had a vile of antizin so I wanted to give the cure to Jade and then switch out the vile. I liked jade for as little interaction as they had, but them man the spare vile in Crane's pocket.

I wish more ppl talked about the main protag, crane is just awesome as an avatar for the player, most of the time he sounds reasonable, human in a world with a lot of "caricatures" like rais, i loved how he was just tired of his bullshit and sounded more like he was annoying than a threat
For the Goon, you can either use the dropkick or that push which you can run over enemies, you can also combine those two, it's pretty effective. Run over, evade, and then dropkick.
I bought the definitive edition about 2 weeks ago and I'm loving it, already beat the story and 90% done with the following. This is one of the most unique games I have ever played and it's in my top 5 games of all time
at the beginning u could collect tons of packages on easy and turn them in on nightmare getting the nightmare exp reward for an easy difficulty mission

I cheezed this game by using the ranger bow from the dlc, it’s a max level unbreakable bow that is easy to craft by just searching trash cans and the arrows are even easier
