Please don't let them get out. It's a bad thing people think is okay and still do. The outside is often filled with dangerous things for your cats, such as accidents involving cars, people that threaten the cats, or poison, cats getting sick, which can become very serious, all depending on their activity outside, and the fact you don't have any way to know what they're doing, except the use of cameras. Please, just do not. It's not as healthy, since there is lack of space, but it's healthier than being outside. It may take some time for them to adapt inside (If used to getting out), but it's for the better.
She's not even my cat and her meows at the camera made me take a massive sigh of relief that she's back. I can't explain what or why I just experienced but thank goodness this baby returned!!

I "lost" a cat for three months..... I think someone had him in their home. But he came bounding over the fence back home one Saturday. I cried tears of joy for hours!!!! I never let him outside again!!!!
Yes probably got kittynapped…that happened to my cat… but the kittynapper worked at a local vet and saw our fb post of our missing cat she sent pictures of him and he did not look happy there at all… later he would still go visit her and she stopped locking him in her house… she had alot of kitties and he liked being social so we got him fixed and he is now an indoor cat.. but became friends with the lady, Erin and would go to her house and have bonfires it was nice ❤ but I just knew he was kittynapped when he was or he would have been home I even told all my friends I knew he was kittynapped and I was right

Wonderful news. Years ago, my cat was missing but after a well she came running through the garden and meowing loudly. I ran to meet her and she jumped into my arms and cuddled with me. Only God knows where she had been. Unfortunately, we lost others and a dog... very painful. I am so glad your kitty is back!❤❤

I lost my Siamese cat back in May 2021 she was sick and for nearly 2 days it felt like my world has ended,looked for her everywhere,pasted her posters on every corner and shared some with neighbors, I also stayed outside in the middle of the night hoping she could show up, sleep left me , in less than 48 hours a neighbor brought her back hungry and dehydrated 😢I was so grateful that she returned.🙏❤ she passed 2 months ago at age 24. I will always be grateful to God for her❤️
Years ago one of my dogs went missing for about 3 days, felt sick and notified everywhere, local shelters etc and then late one night I just opened the front door to check and there he was just standing waiting. This dark furry shape in the dark, had never been so happy to see his crumpled little face. I couldn’t believe he just found his way home. Fabulous feeling.
happened to me too....our dog left and was gone for 6 days....then he just came back magically...he was so tired and slept for like half a day then he was his old self....i was miserable when he was gone...

Max our dog a bearded collie cross could be prone to trying to sneak off if you took your eye off him for too long but we had always managed to grab him in time as he was sloping off. We lived in a farm cottage on a working farm with fields around us and our garden wasn’t fenced in as such for the first few years so he knew his escape route if the door was left open by accident. Just too tempting for him. He lived until he was 17, oldest dog I have had.
Without pets on this earth, life would be so much harder. There’s nothing like the feeling of non-judgemental unconditional love and affection from a pet. They don’t care what you look like, what is “wrong” with you, or how others perceive you. It’s pure acceptance, and mutual love. Just love and feed them, and you’ve entered into a contract with a priceless bond. What a fantastic deal.
@charliee5970 can only speak for me, on Nov.20 we hears crying in the bushes by our busy temraffic street in late evening. My son went out and pulled this dirty soaking wet kitten out of the bushes! I took him to my house safer, no traffic. She has brought out my unconditional love for her and keeps my loving emotions which are high vibrations going which spill over in my daily life to others, and everything around me that's the cool thing our furry friends bring out in us. Lovely that the cat knew to ring the bell. But you might want to get a small cat door that opens on to a Cat enclosure. ( a large Chicken coop will suffice) That way, your cat can enjoy the outdoors with being endangered by dogs, and other critters.
I had an outside/inside cat. He went missing for 6 days. Now he’s an indoor cat. I never felt so sick as when he was missing. He’s adjusted just fine to being an indoor cat only. 😸
For those who don't know, if your cat ever goes missing, leave out food and water for it! Usually they are nearby. And not only does it have something ready for them in case they do come home and you aren't there, but it gives them the scent to follow. It's got your scent on it. This s why in addition to the food and water, you should leave out its litter box and something of yours, like a blanket or something. It acts as a homing device.
Yes they usually are close by and hiding. Like under a deck or in buhses in a shed. Ask your neighbors if they recently opened then closed their garage, shed, etc. They could be stuck inside.
Wish that was always the case. A cat I loved so much about 20 years ago went missing …..I found him dead in the street a few days later. Most heart breaking event I have gone through!

Years ago, as a teenager,I had a similar story. We had a yellow cat that would roam freely in and out of our house. We moved to a new house about 1 km away but there was a busy road in the middle. I walked that cat for about a week around the new house trying to get her used to it, and it seemed to work,but after another week she went missing. I walked back to the old house, several times, calling out to her, looking under cars and asking if anyone had seen her. We lost hope and thought we'd never see her again. 2 or 3 weeks later, while we were having lunch, we heard a meow. Somehow she had found her way back to us, and never went awol again. She enjoyed a long happy cat life and died of old age in her favourite spot.

My cat ran off after a move about 2 weeks ago so I feel your pain. We had the cat for about 8 years so it's like losing a member of the family. Don't lose heart though..when I was a kid of about 14(I am 50ish now) my beloved Morris disappeared for 2 months. I thought he was gone for good. Then one day there's a scratching sound at the door followed by a steady stream of meows. When I opened the door there he was...thinner but ok otherwise. He lived another 10 years 😊
Our cat once went missing for 3 weeks during winter, when it was snowing outside (which is rare for where we lived, in Sedona, AZ). After 5 days, I still didn’t have a bad feeling (I always knew intuitively when something was wrong with one of my pets). But my mom told me that since it had been 5 days, he want coming home. I ran in my room and cried (I was in the 6th grade). After 3 weeks, when it was snowing out, we heard his loud meows outside the front door. We all looked at each other with surprise and excitement and ran to the front door to open it, and there he was. My 22lb Baby Bear 🥰.
@@lilysatterfield3310 he was part Maine Coone. 😊 I believe his dad was half Maine Coone from what we were told. He and his dad were both large with short fur. His mom and sister were regular sized/smaller. He and his sister were from the same litter, and when they were kittens he was twice her size. It was really adorable. We adopted them both.
I had been told, when you move, you should keep indoor/outdoor cats inside for a few weeks so they understand this is their new home. The last time I moved, I did just that. I had three cats, two males and a female (all neutered) and, after two weeks, the two males went out and came back and were fine. The female, who was always a bit nervous going outside, totally freaked and disappeared. Unfortunately, just before we moved, I sprained my ankle so I couldn't walk. But I went out and looked for her and called for her as much as I could. Well, fast forward three months, my ankle was healed and by then my dog and I were taking long walks every day. On July 3rd, we took our longest walk, which was 4 miles and we'd gone on roads we had never been on before. The very next morning (yes, July 4th), as we were heading out for our walk and had only gotten about 100 yards from the house, we heard a tiny little meow from the bushes. My dog and I looked and looked and who should pop out but my cat-- much thinner but clearly recognizing us. And me recognizing HER! It was one of my best moments in recent memory. And I really believe, the day before when we were on that long walk, we must have passed her and she must have seen us and followed us home. I think, when I put her out that very first time, she got scared and then got turned around and lost. After she was found, she never went outside again and I never even encouraged her to go out. Some cats are better being outside than others. Upon reflection, I also realized I should have stayed with her when I put her out that first time. :\ I wish I had. It would have spared her 3 months of being lost and alone.
Maybe she smelled the two of you, and that's the smell of home and safety. She followed it and came home. I always hear people say that you put their litterbox out, and they can smell their own stinkiness, and come back.
I agree. I moved and my Russian blue got away and was gone --in the mountains, coyote, bear, snow etc and was missing for 17 days. She was not an outdoor cat. She did not know her new home but was eventually spotted looking for food and so I went to the area (within a mile) and sat with tuna and she came to me. Had hung her blanket in the woods, my shirt and let her hear her sibling during the time she was gone, because the vet told me she would probably stay nearby and could smell me and her sibling. The only association she had. She is now turning 18 and in the beginning of kidney disease and am still thankful I got her back!
You should not let cats outdoors. Simple as that. The average life expectancy of outdoor cats is 1/4th that of indoor cats. Not to mention what they do to the bird population.
While I am grateful & happy this ladies beautiful cat came home, there is a cautionary tale to tell. I had an indoor/outdoor cat. He just showed up on my back porch one night 3 years ago, ate all the food I left out for the neighbors cat (long story), drank all the water, & then jumped into my lap & stayed there for over an hour! After that night, he stayed & we eventually adopted him, got him to a vet, flea/tick meds, & decent food. He HATED being inside when I brought him in during severe thunderstorms, high winds, or when it was at/below freezing. Eventually, I got him used to being inside & sleeping with us on the bed at night, but he insisted on going out in the mornings before 7am (breakfast). One morning last November, I let him out as usual, but he never came home. I knew something was wrong as he never "missed a meal." I searched my neighborhood houses for him, walking around like an idiot calling his name, but never found him. The next day, I expanded my search to include several other blocks of houses & the side roads ... and that's when I found him. He had been struck by a car. He was laying on his side with blood around his face & head. I cried so hard as I stroked his fur, apologizing repeatedly that I wasn't able to save him. My heart was broken & still is even after all these months. He was a very trusting, loving, & smart cat. He knew how to open doors & cabinets, knew how to meow in a different tone to get what he wanted, & was very empathic to how I was feeling especially on days when chemo or radiation treatment was making me feel bad & would purr & snuggle with me (stage 3 breast cancer). I picked up his body, which was, of course, stiff as a board, & cried unashamedly home. I had him cremated & will eventually bury his ashes with a memorial tree. I've moved to a new city/home, but doesn't alleviate my heartache. PLEASE KEEP YOUR CATS INSIDE or do not allow them outside without supervision! Ifyouu love & cherish your cats, protect them from wild predators & selfish humans who do not care about running them over. 💟

Well this video is obviously a commercial video. “if it weren’t for the ring camera… etc”. “I received a notification on my ring camera, that someone has been spotted at my front door step”… lol “This time when she left, it felt different, like she wasn’t coning back”… But Why? I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but PLEASE keep your cat inside. And even if she's inside, have her micro-chipped. If your house should catch fire or a storm damages your home, the cat could escape. I'm assuming that since she's a female and running loose that she's been spayed. It's very important to have this done not just for the obvious reasons, but having a female cat spayed drastically reduces her chances of getting breast cancer. And they have four times as many chances of getting it than humans. As mentioned in other comments about all the dangers out there, no one mentioned her being caught by humans and used as bait for dog fighting or people who like to torture animals just for kicks. Many serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer included, start on animals and they are mostly cats. Pre-teen boys are especially notorious for torturing cats and their favorite trick is to set them on fire. In addition, I noticed that the cat was wearing a flea collar. They are 95% useless against fleas but they are poisonous to the cat. So if you keep the cat inside, it won't get fleas or others parasites. You've received a lot of good information here from a whole lot of people and I hope you consider using some of it. If you still want to let her run loose, though, try looking at it strictly from a financial perspective and think of the money you'll have to spend if she is badly injured and you have a vet bill to pay. Your cat appears to be happy and in good health, but she needs to stay inside so she stays that way. Find a favorite window and make it easy for her to get to so she can check out what's going on outside and she'll be fine. Good luck with your cat. Maybe when you move to your new home that would be a good time to introduce her to her new way of INDOOR life. If she gets out in unfamiliar territory it could be very bad.
While I absolutely agree that cats are 100 much safer and happier when they are raised as indoor or at least safe / supervised outside time. However it can be impossible to take a cat that has already know the outside world, with the freedom to come and go (more or less as they please) and make it indoor cat. I have tried. 🥺 To him, he was in jail and was not a mom, but a warden. He was sweet and loving but the way he would cry at the door would just break my heart. I tried harnesses and walks but to him the harness was just a chain ball. He would just lay there until I picked him up. I eventually gave up and gave him to a buddy of mine that lived out in no where's ville, where I wouldn't have to worry about him getting hit by cars. I still worry about him on the farm and see him from time to time. He will still be happy to see me and come yell at me for snuggles. But it's nothing compared to the bond between him and my friend now. He follows him around with no leash just howling all day like he's a husky and not a Siamese cat. So I agree all the way up to the "from now on" part. It sounded like in this specific case the cat was already outside exposed when it was adopted. She also said she was keeping it inside after the move, so she was indeed trying to keep her inside. But they can be very smart little problem solvers, and sometimes that means being a little escape artist.
Keep her inside. In S. Korea, it's the law, cuz outside cats can easily get lost, become road killed, poisoned, tortured/killed by cat haters, taken by Eagles/owls... 😔

@@80sCanadian I have seen strays meow at each other, when greeting each other though... It happens sometimes. In my home we have three divas, and have never meowed at each other. They reserve it for us the humans.
wow, I've had cats all my life and have never heard this before... seems very plausible and interactions I've seen on youtube amongst many cats, it's true they don't seem to meow at eachother. I suppose they're responding, in kind, to our form of speaking to them.
They don't meow a greeting to other cats, but they do meow warnings over territory. Nursing moms have several different meows for calling the kittens when it is time to nurse or to let them know she is home when she returns to them. Kittens have a distress meow to call mom when they are lost or scared. Mom has a search and rescue meow for lost kittens. Mom meows, kitten answers with her distress cry, mom keeps calling as she follows the cries and recovers her child.

Cat's are God's creatures! My cat disappeared for almost a month and returned looking beaten and hungry. I'm glad he fully recovered, he's like my best friend!
I agree. My cats are indoor cats. However, they spend every moment trying to escape and do occasionally. But I don't purposefully let them out. In this case it was even worse because they had only just moved to a new home. The cat should have been kept indoors if at all possible.
Her owner should check the local wildlife. If coyotes live there, it's just a matter of time before this cat ends up in the belly of one or more Coyotes. Coyotes even cruise neighborhoods during the daytime if they are hungry, and they are always hungry. Seen more than one video of a cat being eaten by Coyotes. Not something you want to see on your Ring Camera.
@@elykspuz6596 True. I'm more thinking though, of people who just let the cat out to run the neighborhood every day. I mean, some people think it's cruel not to do that, but as somebody who grew up doing that in Ohio, where no Coyotes exist, you have to be aware that it drastically increases the likelihood of death. We lost many of our cats that way. And they were Siamese cats. Most got run over by a car. A few others were found dead...likely a dog, or some bird of prey got them. Not too many other predators to worry about. Coyotes, however, are almost a sure death for your cats if they live in the area. They cover a lot of territory, and are much hungrier than a hawk, owl or eagle.

My night visioned ring tailed spider smasher has been indoors for 14 years now. We have coyotes and raccoons in the back yard often and he is safest inside, never goes out. He has both black beans and pink beans on his feet. He will actually wake me up and ask for food like ''raow raow?'' OK...I'll go get it. He comes when I call him, even if he was hiding somewhere asleep. He gets kitty treats every time.
As much as cats love indoor/outdoor living it is just too dangerous. I agree with one of the commenter, please her a covered enclosed Catio! It may take some time to get her a custom to it but you will be thankful that she comes home every night.
Some cats can't stand being lock inside. Our cat used to jump twice from his previous owners balcony and it almost killed him because it was way too high. They gave their cat to us cause we live in a house. It's very cruel to lock cats inside and nothing ever happened to our cats
@@christycrane5902 I have three cats and one gets very angry if he can’t go out at least once a day. He used to be a street cat but he adopted us about ten years ago. He doesn’t want to go out if the weather is bad or if there are people out, so he does have his limits, but he does get grumpy if he can’t go out on his terms. He’ll start ambushing the other cats and then start to ambush us. He picked the right house though because we all understand his quirks. 😊

Yes definitely 100% indoors in the area where I live. Even the most street savvy, most cautious feline lasts no more than 4 to 5 years before being done in by one or more of these factors .... mauled by vicious stray dogs, poisoned, stoned and chased away by nasty people, run over by reckless drivers, poisoned over months drinking from puddles filled with household chemicals, transported to a faraway location while hiding in the underneath sections of a car etc.

We go out and enjoy our lives, cats were never meant to be stuck indoors all day in a house. Once they have that freedom there is no going back. I typically kept my cat indoors for days if I clipped his claws when he needed a bath because he would claw me. And if he had no claws he can't fight or climb from dogs. He would look at me real evil when he would rip up the favorite couch to punish me. Lol. We know cats like to get revenge too. I miss my cat

What an amazing story. So glad she found her home. I would never let her out. At home they are safe for the most part. I have had cats over 40 years. Never let them out. Lived in an apartment. They were all very happy. Each LIVED to almost 20. Good luck. Keep the babies safe.
As a dog person it never ceases to amaze me how smart cats are, Im staunch dog person but my baby can’t even find his bowl if I turn off the lights🤣. What a precious story ❤❤❤❤ After high school graduation my sister and I were still living at home. She found a dumped kitten and hid it in her room; Dad didn't like cats. Charcoal became my best buddy, and even Dad got to enjoy him. Sis got married to an Airforce guy, and moved nearly 200 miles away to his base. Although Charcoal was so close to me, she took him with her. A few weeks later she called. Charcoal had gotten out and disappeared. He had never been anywhere in a car but the vet. One day some weeks later I was walking to the stairs by the front door and heard a cat meowing on the porch. GUESS WHO?? Needless to say, Charcoal remained with me the rest of his life! My big grey baby! ❤❤

Why on earth would they be so cruel?! The cat obviously knows to find her way to home and even to be let inside. Would you like to be imprisoned for life without any crime? Your mother endured many fears, but she let you outside to explore the world. And you were in many dangers already. Love respects the cat's need for freedom. Selfishness is what locks the poor cat up for life. It's a different story, when the cat never was outside. Still they long for it often. Yet, it's not harming them. Keeping an outdoors cat inside IS harming them severely.
You can recreate some of the wonders of the outside world with a catio. If not, you can provide a cat with plenty of mental stimulation indoors. You wouldn’t let a toddler outside on their own, would you? That is the comparison to make here because they are just as vulnerable - they cannot fend off a hawk or a coyote or an eagle attack; nor do they have the road sense a human being does.
@@monsoon1548 My cats have plenty of road sense. We don't have eagles here, so I don't know about that. But a hawk never showed any interest, the cats are too big for them. Cats have marvelous instincts. You cannot possibly compare a cat with a human toddler. It's pure folly. The toddler would die within days without help. Cats live outside their entire lives without any human help. Young kittens are the exception, but as soon as a cat is about three months old, it can hunt well enough to survive beautifully on its own. Perhaps not in a cemented inner city, where there might not be enough food. Though I have heard of cities invested with rodents, that desperately need the help of cats. But even I wouldn't let my cat out in the inner city, because of the danger of too much traffic and too little to hunt.

Human beings NEED to go out to survive and thrive, cats don't if you provide plenty of stimulation indoors and a catio is an excellent option. Then you say your cats have plenty of road sense and yet you won't allow them to venture out in the inner city. Very contradictory statements, all in one comment - or perhaps you recognise now that there are many places where a cat should not be allowed outdoors and that keeping a cat indoors is not, as you previously stated "cruel, selfish, causes severe harm". Animal welfare looks different for different cats in different parts of the world - you may not have eagles where you live but someone else might, in addition to coyotes. Your cats may be large but a small cat could easily be whisked away by a hawk. In my part of the world, cats are greatest risk from human beings, fancy breeds are stolen and sold off to live in tiny metal cages for the rest of their lives and used for breeding purposes. Then there are stray dogs that rip into cats any chance they get. Anyway, you do you, may your cats be safe, always. Bye now.

PLEASE keep her inside🙏🏽 She will get used to it. I rescued an cat that was outside for about year. He doesn't want to go out at all now. I hope you have an id tag on her just in case. Their lives are shorten because they can become prey to other animals, can get hit by a car and really become lost especially when they're not familiar with the area. That was a blessing that she came back. So glad you got her back😻😻
Some cats can't stand being lock inside. Our cat used to jump twice from his previous owners balcony and it almost killed him because it was way too high. They gave their cat to us cause we live in a house. It's very cruel to lock cats inside and nothing ever happened to our cats!

Cats who go outdoors have a reduced life span - they can expect to live about 2-5 years on average whereas an indoor cat can expect to live at least 12 years, often well above that (it's not unusual for them to live to 18 or 20.) Cats indoors can live good lives with plenty of exercise, you just have to play with them and provide stimulation (such as regularly switching out toys), provide places to climb, provide access to windows, etc. Having more than one cat allows them to play together when the owner is not available. You can also harness train them and take them on walks or build a catio. If you don't know how to properly keep a pet healthy, then either do some research or don't comment on what you don't know.

They were both inside cats for 2,5 years with acces to a fairly large garden with trees, bushes and many things made for them to climb on, also got plenty of play time from us and have acces to all the things you mention in the house (toys, high climbing places throughout the house specially build for them and window perches on different sides of the house). We did it all and yet they still BOTH yearned to go outside and explore. So we chose to put our cats happiness first. I definitely believe now that cats should be able to have a decision if they want to go outside or not and that it is cruel to keep them soleley indoors. It's not natural for them to be locked sinde and you can play with them or provide other things all you want but indoor cats sleep more, get less exercise and often get more bored. And yes outdoor cats live a shorter life but I prefer quality over quantity. Who are we as humans to decide for them and be selfish? Is your cat only there for you? For us it's more important that they are happy and have their freedom to choose. My cats can choose now and they both LOVE going outside whenever they please and I am sure many would too if they had the choice..
@@nnnicoleee01 Cats are also an invasive species which can absolutely decimate the local wildlife, by your very logic it's more natural to keep your cats inside and not disrupt the ecosystem. Just keep your cats indoors, especially since if you don't they can also catch toxoplasmosis and spread it to you, are way more likely to be injured, die, be kidnapped or killed and, again, they are very bad for the local wildlife (so are stray dogs). That's also just completely untrue about indoor cats, you just need to put the time in to properly engage your cats and get the necessary equipment for them to use for them to get their exercise in, and If you really want to let them out, walk them on a harness daily or just semi-frequently, I would actually encourage this to any cat owner who doesn't do this already. "Oh but they obviously want to be outside, it's natural!!!" is not a justification for the many drawbacks that come from letting them do so, and it's contrarily cruel to let them go outdoors whilst knowing everything that results from it.

❤❤ I’m so glad that she came home and rang the ring doorbell! Two of my cats get out once in a great while. They are chipped and they also have name tags and phone numbers on their collar. If you insist on letting her out, please at least do that so if someone finds her, you can get her back. I try with all my might to keep mine inside. I have dogs that go out in the backyard, so sometimes one will sneak in the line and get out! Luckily, they only go as far as my neighbors yard and if I ask if they are hungry they will come right home. Lol. Welcome home sweet girl!❤
I'm in my 40s now but I still remember the heartbreak of losing my cat in HS to a senseless tragedy. My cat would go in and out and sit on the fire escape but never stay out all night but my dad gave me his collar the next day after my poor boy's body was found. I've never let a cat go outside on its own again. I walk mine on harnesses and my blind cat sits in a catio on my balcony but never again will my defenseless animals be prey to human or animal predators.
I HOPE it wasn't a car that hit it.. I hit 1 about 15-20 years ago in Maryland and they found its body the next day I looked for it after I hit it but couldn't find it as it was late at night.... but I found out the next day the owner found it on the side of the road deceased.. :-( I was so upset and still am that I hit it with my car.. it had ran out when the person answered their door that evening and ran in front of my Car from what I had heard.. I just hope it didn't suffer much.. I myself own 2 Cats and couldn't imagine losing 1..

He was an innocent animal and the neighbors were insane. We moved not long after. I still think of what he went through and I've had many cats since him. So, nope, I'll never let a cat outside alone. Even in an enclosure, I'll be outside unless there are no predators around including wildlife.

My vet vetoed the "indoor only" option after both my maine coons contracted ideopathic cystitis. The indoor life was LITERALLY killing them in the most painful way possible.
Don't you know how cruel it is to keep a cat, who is used to roam outside, inside all the time? They die a little of longing, each and every day! Cats need their space. If they never had it, that's a different story. Yet, I know of male cats, who did everything to get outside, even when their owners had 'decided' they were indoor cats. Humans are SO cruel! I rather have the fear and hurt, that my cat is not coming home, than to see my cat long for his/her freedom and be imprisoned for life!!! And believe me, I have.
I got a used cat at the pound. He was an indoor cat. When I retired, and had time, I taught him about being an outdoor cat. His personality blossomed, he gained confidence and catitude. You'd be arrested if you kept a human confined to a house 24 / 7.
I highly suggest keeping that Cat indoors for now on. I don’t want that cat to end up getting jumped to death by pitbulls or other dogs or anything else

Great story. My wife and I relocated out of state. Took our cat with us. Bill went out one day and it appeared that he would not return. After 2 weeks we gave him up for dead then one day he mysteriously appeared as if nothing happened. He apparently found someone to feed him or his hunting skills kicked in and he survived. After that I have a deeper respect for our feline friends.

Please, just do not. It's not as healthy, since there is lack of space, but it's healthier than being outside.
It may take some time for them to adapt inside (If used to getting out), but it's for the better.

Yes probably got kittynapped…that happened to my cat… but the kittynapper worked at a local vet and saw our fb post of our missing cat she sent pictures of him and he did not look happy there at all… later he would still go visit her and she stopped locking him in her house… she had alot of kitties and he liked being social so we got him fixed and he is now an indoor cat.. but became friends with the lady, Erin and would go to her house and have bonfires it was nice ❤ but I just knew he was kittynapped when he was or he would have been home I even told all my friends I knew he was kittynapped and I was right

Wonderful news. Years ago, my cat was missing but after a well she came running through the garden and meowing loudly. I ran to meet her and she jumped into my arms and cuddled with me. Only God knows where she had been. Unfortunately, we lost others and a dog... very painful. I am so glad your kitty is back!❤❤

I lost my Siamese cat back in May 2021 she was sick and for nearly 2 days it felt like my world has ended,looked for her everywhere,pasted her posters on every corner and shared some with neighbors, I also stayed outside in the middle of the night hoping she could show up, sleep left me , in less than 48 hours a neighbor brought her back hungry and dehydrated 😢I was so grateful that she returned.🙏❤ she passed 2 months ago at age 24. I will always be grateful to God for her❤️

Years ago one of my dogs went missing for about 3 days, felt sick and notified everywhere, local shelters etc and then late one night I just opened the front door to check and there he was just standing waiting. This dark furry shape in the dark, had never been so happy to see his crumpled little face. I couldn’t believe he just found his way home. Fabulous feeling.
happened to me too....our dog left and was gone for 6 days....then he just came back magically...he was so tired and slept for like half a day then he was his old self....i was miserable when he was gone...

Max our dog a bearded collie cross could be prone to trying to sneak off if you took your eye off him for too long but we had always managed to grab him in time as he was sloping off. We lived in a farm cottage on a working farm with fields around us and our garden wasn’t fenced in as such for the first few years so he knew his escape route if the door was left open by accident. Just too tempting for him. He lived until he was 17, oldest dog I have had.

They don’t care what you look like, what is “wrong” with you, or how others perceive you. It’s pure acceptance, and mutual love. Just love and feed them, and you’ve entered into a contract with a priceless bond. What a fantastic deal.

@charliee5970 can only speak for me, on Nov.20 we hears crying in the bushes by our busy temraffic street in late evening. My son went out and pulled this dirty soaking wet kitten out of the bushes! I took him to my house safer, no traffic. She has brought out my unconditional love for her and keeps my loving emotions which are high vibrations going which spill over in my daily life to others, and everything around me that's the cool thing our furry friends bring out in us. For those who don't know, if your cat ever goes missing, leave out food and water for it! Usually they are nearby. And not only does it have something ready for them in case they do come home and you aren't there, but it gives them the scent to follow. It's got your scent on it. This s why in addition to the food and water, you should leave out its litter box and something of yours, like a blanket or something. It acts as a homing device.

Years ago, as a teenager,I had a similar story. We had a yellow cat that would roam freely in and out of our house. We moved to a new house about 1 km away but there was a busy road in the middle. I walked that cat for about a week around the new house trying to get her used to it, and it seemed to work,but after another week she went missing. I walked back to the old house, several times, calling out to her, looking under cars and asking if anyone had seen her. We lost hope and thought we'd never see her again. 2 or 3 weeks later, while we were having lunch, we heard a meow. Somehow she had found her way back to us, and never went awol again. She enjoyed a long happy cat life and died of old age in her favourite spot.

My cat ran off after a move about 2 weeks ago so I feel your pain. We had the cat for about 8 years so it's like losing a member of the family. Don't lose heart though..when I was a kid of about 14(I am 50ish now) my beloved Morris disappeared for 2 months. I thought he was gone for good. Then one day there's a scratching sound at the door followed by a steady stream of meows. When I opened the door there he was...thinner but ok otherwise. He lived another 10 years 😊

Our cat once went missing for 3 weeks during winter, when it was snowing outside (which is rare for where we lived, in Sedona, AZ). After 5 days, I still didn’t have a bad feeling (I always knew intuitively when something was wrong with one of my pets). But my mom told me that since it had been 5 days, he want coming home. I ran in my room and cried (I was in the 6th grade). After 3 weeks, when it was snowing out, we heard his loud meows outside the front door. We all looked at each other with surprise and excitement and ran to the front door to open it, and there he was. My 22lb Baby Bear 🥰.

His mom and sister were regular sized/smaller. He and his sister were from the same litter, and when they were kittens he was twice her size. It was really adorable. We adopted them both.

I had been told, when you move, you should keep indoor/outdoor cats inside for a few weeks so they understand this is their new home. The last time I moved, I did just that. I had three cats, two males and a female (all neutered) and, after two weeks, the two males went out and came back and were fine. The female, who was always a bit nervous going outside, totally freaked and disappeared. Unfortunately, just before we moved, I sprained my ankle so I couldn't walk. But I went out and looked for her and called for her as much as I could.
Well, fast forward three months, my ankle was healed and by then my dog and I were taking long walks every day. On July 3rd, we took our longest walk, which was 4 miles and we'd gone on roads we had never been on before. The very next morning (yes, July 4th), as we were heading out for our walk and had only gotten about 100 yards from the house, we heard a tiny little meow from the bushes. My dog and I looked and looked and who should pop out but my cat-- much thinner but clearly recognizing us. And me recognizing HER! It was one of my best moments in recent memory.
And I really believe, the day before when we were on that long walk, we must have passed her and she must have seen us and followed us home. I think, when I put her out that very first time, she got scared and then got turned around and lost. After she was found, she never went outside again and I never even encouraged her to go out. Some cats are better being outside than others.
Upon reflection, I also realized I should have stayed with her when I put her out that first time. :\ I wish I had. It would have spared her 3 months of being lost and alone.
Maybe she smelled the two of you, and that's the smell of home and safety. She followed it and came home. I always hear people say that you put their litterbox out, and they can smell their own stinkiness, and come back.
I agree. I moved and my Russian blue got away and was gone --in the mountains, coyote, bear, snow etc and was missing for 17 days. She was not an outdoor cat. She did not know her new home but was eventually spotted looking for food and so I went to the area (within a mile) and sat with tuna and she came to me. Had hung her blanket in the woods, my shirt and let her hear her sibling during the time she was gone, because the vet told me she would probably stay nearby and could smell me and her sibling. The only association she had. She is now turning 18 and in the beginning of kidney disease and am still thankful I got her back!
You should not let cats outdoors. Simple as that. The average life expectancy of outdoor cats is 1/4th that of indoor cats. Not to mention what they do to the bird population.
While I am grateful & happy this ladies beautiful cat came home, there is a cautionary tale to tell. I had an indoor/outdoor cat. He just showed up on my back porch one night 3 years ago, ate all the food I left out for the neighbors cat (long story), drank all the water, & then jumped into my lap & stayed there for over an hour!
After that night, he stayed & we eventually adopted him, got him to a vet, flea/tick meds, & decent food. He HATED being inside when I brought him in during severe thunderstorms, high winds, or when it was at/below freezing.
Eventually, I got him used to being inside & sleeping with us on the bed at night, but he insisted on going out in the mornings before 7am (breakfast).
One morning last November, I let him out as usual, but he never came home. I knew something was wrong as he never "missed a meal." I searched my neighborhood houses for him, walking around like an idiot calling his name, but never found him.
The next day, I expanded my search to include several other blocks of houses & the side roads ... and that's when I found him.
He had been struck by a car. He was laying on his side with blood around his face & head. I cried so hard as I stroked his fur, apologizing repeatedly that I wasn't able to save him. My heart was broken & still is even after all these months. He was a very trusting, loving, & smart cat. He knew how to open doors & cabinets, knew how to meow in a different tone to get what he wanted, & was very empathic to how I was feeling especially on days when chemo or radiation treatment was making me feel bad & would purr & snuggle with me (stage 3 breast cancer).
I picked up his body, which was, of course, stiff as a board, & cried unashamedly home. I had him cremated & will eventually bury his ashes with a memorial tree.
I've moved to a new city/home, but doesn't alleviate my heartache. PLEASE KEEP YOUR CATS INSIDE or do not allow them outside without supervision! Ifyouu love & cherish your cats, protect them from wild predators & selfish humans who do not care about running them over. 💟
@Br-mk7b Yup. Outdoor cat average life expectancy is only a couple years while indoor cats have something like 11 years.

I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but PLEASE keep your cat inside. And even if she's inside, have her micro-chipped. If your house should catch fire or a storm damages your home, the cat could escape.
I'm assuming that since she's a female and running loose that she's been spayed. It's very important to have this done not just for the obvious reasons, but having a female cat spayed drastically reduces her chances of getting breast cancer. And they have four times as many chances of getting it than humans.
As mentioned in other comments about all the dangers out there, no one mentioned her being caught by humans and used as bait for dog fighting or people who like to torture animals just for kicks. Many serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer included, start on animals and they are mostly cats. Pre-teen boys are especially notorious for torturing cats and their favorite trick is to set them on fire.
In addition, I noticed that the cat was wearing a flea collar. They are 95% useless against fleas but they are poisonous to the cat. So if you keep the cat inside, it won't get fleas or others parasites.
You've received a lot of good information here from a whole lot of people and I hope you consider using some of it. If you still want to let her run loose, though, try looking at it strictly from a financial perspective and think of the money you'll have to spend if she is badly injured and you have a vet bill to pay.
Your cat appears to be happy and in good health, but she needs to stay inside so she stays that way. Find a favorite window and make it easy for her to get to so she can check out what's going on outside and she'll be fine.
Good luck with your cat. Maybe when you move to your new home that would be a good time to introduce her to her new way of INDOOR life. If she gets out in unfamiliar territory it could be very bad.

While I absolutely agree that cats are 100 much safer and happier when they are raised as indoor or at least safe / supervised outside time. However it can be impossible to take a cat that has already know the outside world, with the freedom to come and go (more or less as they please) and make it indoor cat. I have tried. 🥺 To him, he was in jail and was not a mom, but a warden. He was sweet and loving but the way he would cry at the door would just break my heart. I tried harnesses and walks but to him the harness was just a chain ball. He would just lay there until I picked him up. I eventually gave up and gave him to a buddy of mine that lived out in no where's ville, where I wouldn't have to worry about him getting hit by cars. I still worry about him on the farm and see him from time to time. He will still be happy to see me and come yell at me for snuggles. But it's nothing compared to the bond between him and my friend now. He follows him around with no leash just howling all day like he's a husky and not a Siamese cat.
So I agree all the way up to the "from now on" part. It sounded like in this specific case the cat was already outside exposed when it was adopted. She also said she was keeping it inside after the move, so she was indeed trying to keep her inside. But they can be very smart little problem solvers, and sometimes that means being a little escape artist.

They don't meow a greeting to other cats, but they do meow warnings over territory. Nursing moms have several different meows for calling the kittens when it is time to nurse or to let them know she is home when she returns to them. Kittens have a distress meow to call mom when they are lost or scared. Mom has a search and rescue meow for lost kittens. Mom meows, kitten answers with her distress cry, mom keeps calling as she follows the cries and recovers her child.

I agree. My cats are indoor cats. However, they spend every moment trying to escape and do occasionally. But I don't purposefully let them out. In this case it was even worse because they had only just moved to a new home. The cat should have been kept indoors if at all possible.

Her owner should check the local wildlife. If coyotes live there, it's just a matter of time before this cat ends up in the belly of one or more Coyotes. Coyotes even cruise neighborhoods during the daytime if they are hungry, and they are always hungry. Seen more than one video of a cat being eaten by Coyotes. Not something you want to see on your Ring Camera.

I mean, some people think it's cruel not to do that, but as somebody who grew up doing that in Ohio, where no Coyotes exist, you have to be aware that it drastically increases the likelihood of death.
We lost many of our cats that way. And they were Siamese cats. Most got run over by a car. A few others were found dead...likely a dog, or some bird of prey got them. Not too many other predators to worry about.
Coyotes, however, are almost a sure death for your cats if they live in the area. They cover a lot of territory, and are much hungrier than a hawk, owl or eagle.

My night visioned ring tailed spider smasher has been indoors for 14 years now. We have coyotes and raccoons in the back yard often and he is safest inside, never goes out. He has both black beans and pink beans on his feet. He will actually wake me up and ask for food like ''raow raow?'' OK...I'll go get it. He comes when I call him, even if he was hiding somewhere asleep. He gets kitty treats every time.
Also outside cats collectively kill millions of birds every year.
As much as cats love indoor/outdoor living it is just too dangerous. I agree with one of the commenter, please her a covered enclosed Catio! It may take some time to get her a custom to it but you will be thankful that she comes home every night.

Some cats can't stand being lock inside. Our cat used to jump twice from his previous owners balcony and it almost killed him because it was way too high. They gave their cat to us cause we live in a house. It's very cruel to lock cats inside and nothing ever happened to our cats

He doesn’t want to go out if the weather is bad or if there are people out, so he does have his limits, but he does get grumpy if he can’t go out on his terms. He’ll start ambushing the other cats and then start to ambush us. He picked the right house though because we all understand his quirks. 😊

Yes definitely 100% indoors in the area where I live. Even the most street savvy, most cautious feline lasts no more than 4 to 5 years before being done in by one or more of these factors .... mauled by vicious stray dogs, poisoned, stoned and chased away by nasty people, run over by reckless drivers, poisoned over months drinking from puddles filled with household chemicals, transported to a faraway location while hiding in the underneath sections of a car etc.

What an amazing story. So glad she found her home. I would never let her out. At home they are safe for the most part. I have had cats over 40 years. Never let them out. Lived in an apartment. They were all very happy. Each LIVED to almost 20. Good luck. Keep the babies safe.

After high school graduation my sister and I were still living at home. She found a dumped kitten and hid it in her room; Dad didn't like cats.
Charcoal became my best buddy, and even Dad got to enjoy him.
Sis got married to an Airforce guy, and moved nearly 200 miles away to his base. Although Charcoal was so close to me, she took him with her.
A few weeks later she called. Charcoal had gotten out and disappeared. He had never been anywhere in a car but the vet.
One day some weeks later I was walking to the stairs by the front door and heard a cat meowing on the porch.
GUESS WHO??
Needless to say, Charcoal remained with me the rest of his life!

Why on earth would they be so cruel?! The cat obviously knows to find her way to home and even to be let inside.
Would you like to be imprisoned for life without any crime? Your mother endured many fears, but she let you outside to explore the world. And you were in many dangers already.
Love respects the cat's need for freedom. Selfishness is what locks the poor cat up for life.
It's a different story, when the cat never was outside. Still they long for it often. Yet, it's not harming them. Keeping an outdoors cat inside IS harming them severely.
You can recreate some of the wonders of the outside world with a catio. If not, you can provide a cat with plenty of mental stimulation indoors. You wouldn’t let a toddler outside on their own, would you? That is the comparison to make here because they are just as vulnerable - they cannot fend off a hawk or a coyote or an eagle attack; nor do they have the road sense a human being does.

Cats have marvelous instincts. You cannot possibly compare a cat with a human toddler. It's pure folly. The toddler would die within days without help. Cats live outside their entire lives without any human help.
Young kittens are the exception, but as soon as a cat is about three months old, it can hunt well enough to survive beautifully on its own.
Perhaps not in a cemented inner city, where there might not be enough food. Though I have heard of cities invested with rodents, that desperately need the help of cats.
But even I wouldn't let my cat out in the inner city, because of the danger of too much traffic and too little to hunt.

Animal welfare looks different for different cats in different parts of the world - you may not have eagles where you live but someone else might, in addition to coyotes. Your cats may be large but a small cat could easily be whisked away by a hawk. In my part of the world, cats are greatest risk from human beings, fancy breeds are stolen and sold off to live in tiny metal cages for the rest of their lives and used for breeding purposes. Their lives are shorten because they can become prey to other animals, can get hit by a car and really become lost especially when they're not familiar with the area. That was a blessing that she came back. So glad you got her back😻😻

Cats who go outdoors have a reduced life span - they can expect to live about 2-5 years on average whereas an indoor cat can expect to live at least 12 years, often well above that (it's not unusual for them to live to 18 or 20.) Cats indoors can live good lives with plenty of exercise, you just have to play with them and provide stimulation (such as regularly switching out toys), provide places to climb, provide access to windows, etc. Having more than one cat allows them to play together when the owner is not available. You can also harness train them and take them on walks or build a catio. If you don't know how to properly keep a pet healthy, then either do some research or don't comment on what you don't know.

They were both inside cats for 2,5 years with acces to a fairly large garden with trees, bushes and many things made for them to climb on, also got plenty of play time from us and have acces to all the things you mention in the house (toys, high climbing places throughout the house specially build for them and window perches on different sides of the house). We did it all and yet they still BOTH yearned to go outside and explore. So we chose to put our cats happiness first.
I definitely believe now that cats should be able to have a decision if they want to go outside or not and that it is cruel to keep them soleley indoors. It's not natural for them to be locked sinde and you can play with them or provide other things all you want but indoor cats sleep more, get less exercise and often get more bored. And yes outdoor cats live a shorter life but I prefer quality over quantity. Who are we as humans to decide for them and be selfish? Is your cat only there for you? For us it's more important that they are happy and have their freedom to choose. My cats can choose now and they both LOVE going outside whenever they please and I am sure many would too if they had the choice..
@@nnnicoleee01 Cats are also an invasive species which can absolutely decimate the local wildlife, by your very logic it's more natural to keep your cats inside and not disrupt the ecosystem. Just keep your cats indoors, especially since if you don't they can also catch toxoplasmosis and spread it to you, are way more likely to be injured, die, be kidnapped or killed and, again, they are very bad for the local wildlife (so are stray dogs). That's also just completely untrue about indoor cats, you just need to put the time in to properly engage your cats and get the necessary equipment for them to use for them to get their exercise in, and If you really want to let them out, walk them on a harness daily or just semi-frequently, I would actually encourage this to any cat owner who doesn't do this already. "Oh but they obviously want to be outside, it's natural!!!" is not a justification for the many drawbacks that come from letting them do so, and it's contrarily cruel to let them go outdoors whilst knowing everything that results from it.

❤❤ I’m so glad that she came home and rang the ring doorbell! Two of my cats get out once in a great while. They are chipped and they also have name tags and phone numbers on their collar. If you insist on letting her out, please at least do that so if someone finds her, you can get her back. I try with all my might to keep mine inside. I have dogs that go out in the backyard, so sometimes one will sneak in the line and get out! Luckily, they only go as far as my neighbors yard and if I ask if they are hungry they will come right home. Lol. Welcome home sweet girl!❤
I'm in my 40s now but I still remember the heartbreak of losing my cat in HS to a senseless tragedy. My cat would go in and out and sit on the fire escape but never stay out all night but my dad gave me his collar the next day after my poor boy's body was found. I've never let a cat go outside on its own again. I walk mine on harnesses and my blind cat sits in a catio on my balcony but never again will my defenseless animals be prey to human or animal predators.

I HOPE it wasn't a car that hit it.. I hit 1 about 15-20 years ago in Maryland and they found its body the next day I looked for it after I hit it but couldn't find it as it was late at night.... but I found out the next day the owner found it on the side of the road deceased.. :-( I was so upset and still am that I hit it with my car.. it had ran out when the person answered their door that evening and ran in front of my Car from what I had heard.. I just hope it didn't suffer much.. I myself own 2 Cats and couldn't imagine losing 1..
@@KirksCORNER-1983 No. It was killed by a person. My cat's neck was broke and some of his tail was removed. I still can't go into gruesome details cause it wasn't my sweet boy's fault. He was an innocent animal and the neighbors were insane. We moved not long after. I still think of what he went through and I've had many cats since him. So, nope, I'll never let a cat outside alone. Even in an enclosure, I'll be outside unless there are no predators around including wildlife.
This is my biggest fear, to loose one of my cats because of a sick psychopath. I'm sure you will meet your boy one day in heaven again. Blessings to you from Switzerland

My vet vetoed the "indoor only" option after both my maine coons contracted ideopathic cystitis. The indoor life was LITERALLY killing them in the most painful way possible.
Don't you know how cruel it is to keep a cat, who is used to roam outside, inside all the time? They die a little of longing, each and every day! Cats need their space. If they never had it, that's a different story. Yet, I know of male cats, who did everything to get outside, even when their owners had 'decided' they were indoor cats.
Humans are SO cruel!
I rather have the fear and hurt, that my cat is not coming home, than to see my cat long for his/her freedom and be imprisoned for life!!! And believe me, I have.
Build an outdoor enclosure. Most people that want their cat's to stay at home and roam outside safely will build outdoor enclosures for cat's.

I got a used cat at the pound. He was an indoor cat. When I retired, and had time, I taught him about being an outdoor cat. His personality blossomed, he gained confidence and catitude.

Great story. My wife and I relocated out of state. Took our cat with us. Bill went out one day and it appeared that he would not return. After 2 weeks we gave him up for dead then one day he mysteriously appeared as if nothing happened. He apparently found someone to feed him or his hunting skills kicked in and he survived. After that I have a deeper respect for our feline friends.

That's very possessive and over-protective of you. It's a member of your family, not your hostage. If your mother got ran over by a truck, would your answer be "DAMN, we should've kept her locked up in the house!" ...no. Also clapping your hands between words doesn't help.
@@_Professor_Oak they are members of your family and are fully dependant on you, so you care for them the same way you care for a small child to keep them safe. if you dont keep an eye on your cat while outside they could get snatched by a hawk, coyote, fox, owl, ferrets and stray or unleashed dogs. if you want your cat to explore outdoors then invest in a catio or have an enclosed backyard to keep them safe.
@@_Professor_Oak so would you use that logic to let your toddler free roam as much as they wanted without supervision? Cats are also an invasive species to this country. They wreak havoc on ecosystems and should be kept inside for their own safety and the safety of other critters.
@@amayakhler1551 They look to have a very generous front yard. If I were then, I’d invest in cat fencing and let her have that yard for her own. Then she can still go out, but be of no harm to the environment, and have no harm to her.

My cat has only gone missing like twice and that was at the vacation house. She was literally across the street because one of the neighbor cats chased her away. I've convinced my parents not to bring her there anymore lol. At home she has never gone missing
