The movie sags in the middle with a lot of padding to turn the student movie into a feature length one (and the skippy ball scene goes on for waaaay too long), but the core story, told in the first and last fifteen minutes is an actual sci fi / comedy masterpiece. I had a VHS copy of it in the 1980s that was a standard rewatch for me and my friends on movie night at my place. We would watch the first twenty minutes or so and then fast forward to the last fifteen minutes. I've often contemplated making an edit of the movie that keeps the main plot and some of the better jokes in the middle, ending up with tight, perfect little movie of about 40-50 minutes.
