Comfortable ride, very quiet because of active noise cancellation tech in the CRV, and great suspension. Great SUV!

I test drove this vehicle and I must say I was impressed. The second row seating has a huge amount of leg room. I was totally blow away with the ergonomics and practicality of the vehicle. It is NOT the ultimate vehicle but man does it fill all the criteria of what everyone kind of wants. A jack of all trades.

I was going to trade my 2014 LX in when the 2017 EX-L is available. Cons on my 2014 LX: No armrest, uncomfortable seats, no recline rear seats, not enough power.
2017 Cons: Complicate screen, ugly digital dash, turbo except LX (turbo would never last), 14 gal tank, Pros: Finally recline rear seats, better looking wheels than touring, better looking tail lights. Power assisted tailgate. However, not sure if the seats are larger and more comfortable, and unless there is major change where they offer 2.4 on all models, (Honda shot themselves on the foot on this) , I may buy a RDX instead.

The 2018 Equinox 1.5 TAWD is $21K on cars dot com where the CR-V is $5,000 more at $26K. Not sure if it is worth $5,000 than the Chevy but the bank set Honda residuals won't catch that discount within a lease period. The older CR-V L 2.4l AWD is still $2,000 more expensive with lower output engine and less features that the 2018 Equinox 1.5T AWD.

I bought a CR-V EX-L AWD (2017) and got a good deal for it. Short story is that it's a great handling vehicle, with a torque-laden engine that delivers impressive torque for passing (50 - 70 mph) and a very intuitive CVT unit that can downshift rapidly for passing, while delivering impressive fuel mileage. Front seats are almost perfect for my 6'-3.5" frame, and I wish they had a little more seat cushion room for my 55 year old frame. Otherwise, visibility and ergonomics in the cabin are great as is utility. I am getting on average, 30 mpg all around with spikes of 36-plus miles per gallon on the highway. I have close to 15000 miles and only two oil changes plus a tire rotation. The car is a good performer and secure. Downside is the carpet inside is flimsy and cheap, and the exterior body panels and plastic accessory moldings seem cheap in feel. I wonder about their durability in the long term under the sun. I recommend strongly getting third party floor mats for this car to preserve the flimsy carpeting.

Currently comparing the '17 CRV EX to a Subaru Forester. I am working with a $30k price range and it's interesting to see the results. The CRV is clearly a better value over the Forester for my $30k of car in terms of leather seating, interior fit and finish, safety options and the media head unit paring with my cell phone. The Subaru also has one aspect that hurts it when compared to the CV - a flat load floor or lack thereof. That and my $30k in a Forester only gets a back up camera. "Eyesight" and other features are only found in more costly trim levels. But with the Forester, my $30k gets me heated mirrors and wipers plus a darned good driver's seat that's cloth, not leather.

The Kia sportage SX Turbo has been pretty impressive as well. The new CX-5 looks really nice, but more than likely its getting the same engine from last year. Yes I know they mazda claims a diesel option later, but they should have offered a better regular turbo.

    • @barbz_zayne
      @barbz_zayne 2 ปีที่แล้ว

5 years later I can answer that for sure lol, 2017-2019 CR-V EX and higher trims are rated for 28 city, 33highway, 29 combined (although I average around 32.5 combined), and the LX is around 27 combined.
The 2020 models make the LX have the same engine as the EX + trims, but the ratings bumped a notch. 29 city, 35 highway, 30 combined.
Now a Hybrid is offered from 2020 and newer, it receives 38 city, 41 highway, 39 combined.

Good for Honda to offer a blind spot monitoring system over their awkward, asymmetrical & relatively cheap single passenger-sided LaneWatch camera. The pattern on the seats reminds me of the XT5 platinum.. this thing is a cross between overstyled and a concept car on steroids. From some angles I love it. Hondas are reliable cars, I simply love them, but I am a little discourage they are adding "turbos" to their vehicles. As we all know, a Honda can last you a lifetime but "turbos" eventually will have to be replaced. Does anyone know the cost to replace and how often? When my Tiguan's turbo had to be replaced, it was $3400.00 and the dealer's mechanic stated turbos life expectancy is 4-5 years at best.

One item to think about. Any Honda product will get the advertised MPG. Not so with ANY Ford product. I test drove a Fusion and an Escape and never came close to the highway mpg. Set the cruise at 65mph went twenty miles on the highway and was shy by 3 mpg with both Ford products.

I think Honda cit their own throat. I was going to trade my 2014 CRV-LX for the 2017 until they discontinued the 2.4 engine except for the LX model. Who the ell wanted a Civic engine in a CRV, a Turbo? They also cut the throat on the 2018 Accord, they replaced 2.4 & 3.0 with Turbo in the name of MPG. They misunderstood that owners bought Honda for reliability, not MPG. I guess I am going to buy me a RDX for me and a Camry instead of an Accord for my wife.

CRV seems to beat CX5 in virtually every way from road grip, acceleration a full second faster, cargo space, braking by 10ft. Lower center of gravity and handling. Probably will have better resale and reliability too. Only thing CX5 beats CRV is by “feel” as in the opinion of drivers the CX5 feels like it drives better when in actuality, it doesn’t.

Since this new CR-V shares many components with the new Civic, ( engine, suspension, chassis, infotainment system, transmission, etc.) and since the Civic has a much worse than average repair record after one year, this is not a vehicle that I would get. First time I have seen double exhaust no the CRV, more tailpipe means better fuel efficiency and make the car look more appealing and sexy.
Also, the CRV wieghs 56 LBS less.
I believe the 1.5 190 HP engine will get 28 city and 36 Highway for the 2WD version and 26-33 for the 4WD version, that's my prediction.
The 2.4 184 HP engine should get 26-32 Highway for with the 2WD, same with the outgoing model and 25-31 for the 4WD version.

The front fascia looks a like the 3rd gen CR-V. Having nearly identical power with the non-turbo is kinda pointless to me. Let's hope this new model won't bring the reliability ratings down further like the 2016 Honda Civic, HRV, Pilot and Ridgeline did. In the 2017 CR reliability survey, Honda ranked #10 out of 29 brands, which is quite shocking.

    • @jduke989

cadsux you're forgetting that the 1.5 turbo engine will have better fuel economy numbers

    • @cadsux

If driven conservatively, that is. I've owned turbos, so I know. It's more for weight savings & emissions. I still prefer naturally aspirated. Per CR, those engines are generally more reliable than turbos.

Yes, Mr. Muchler mentioned that at the beginning. Still a yawn for me. Offer the SI's engine, or the corporate V6, and now we're talking! Why should the Civic or the RDX have all the fun?

The 2017 CX-5 looks sportier/better but its slightly smaller and the CR-V gets a turbo. I doubt the CX-5 gets a turbo. It will be the same engine as last year.

So, the new gen 2017 Honda CR-V, measurements (l 180.6, wb 104.7, w 73, weight 3307-3512), overall nice redesign, but did they go far enough, just look how much Chevy/GM did for the redesign (next gen) Equinox, note, no hybrid like the Toyota Rava4 or diesel like the next gen Chevy Equinox, curious, no, 2.0 I4 turbo, Honda should be paying closer attention to the new gen Equinox, why you ask, because this is the 1st truly compact Equinox Chevy has done (Equinox was previously a midsize CUV, with compact prices), yes, Chevy offer compact CUVs before, either through fleets sells (Chevrolet Captiva or used to be 2nd gen Saturn Vue) or remember the HHR, that's it folks, as for why no I4 turbo, I’m guessing, we will soon see the next gen Acura RDX, so if the CR-V doesn't have a 2.0 I4 turbo, one has to believe the RDX will be getting this engine, is it safe too assume the RDX will be losing it V6, with these 2 redesign (Honda CR-V and Chevy Equinox) the CUV compact market is making life hard for compact/midsize sedans
