    Great review. Subscribed! you guys deserve more subscribers, as your presentation style is great. Much better than many TH-cam car channels. BTW, just got our 2017 CR-V touring. Coming from owning 2010, 2013, and 2015 models. The 2017 is an amazing improvement!

    Great review! I just test drove a 2017 EX AWD yesterday and although I really hate how the rims and grill have all those busy lines, everything else is a significant upgrade - especially the Honda sensing, driving dynamics, stiffer chassis, turbo power, while getting almost the same MPGs as my old Fit Sport. Considering how large and well equipped this thing is, that's simply amazing!

    • @FamilyWheels

      Agreed. This is a huge step up for the CR-V.

    Honda should offer a limited edition 2.0 litre turbo which will have over 220 hp - 250hp which will compete with subaru forester and ford escape.

    Another great review. Good job! Myself I'm waiting for 2019 Rav4 full redesign. It has a 2.5L engine which hopefully would give the same consumption as this new Crv. Also I like smooth rides where Crv used to lack at. How you compare the level of confort when compare this version with the same 2017 Rav4 version?

  • @pamk1015
    @pamk1015 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great review! I am thinking of jumping from Toyota to Honda because they've really upped the game, and the Rav4 seems to be stuck (interior-wise) in 5 years ago design. The CRV feels a lot more high end - just a suggestion to do a wee bit more talk about the Apple Car Play/Android Auto features, as well as some of the great stow-away options in the CRV. Loving the Canadian review though! And the heated steering wheel is a huge plus that should get a mention here in Canada!

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Pam. Yep, the heated steering wheel is another Canada-specific Easter egg!

    Great review as always. One issue I have though is how you measure the front legroom from the front of the seat cushion to the dashboard as this doesn't really show overall legroom. Some cars have shorter seats than others, so it would be much more accurate to measure from the back of the bottom cushion to the dashboard. Your measurement shows how close the seat is to the dashboard, it doesn't show legroom as that starts at the back of the seat, if that makes sense.

    Very good video!! This really reflects my experience as a 1.5 yr owner of this car (as well as last years version of this car).
    I bought a new 2016 EX-L CR-V (in the US) but opted to not pay the extra $3k for the active safety features (mainly self-braking and lane-keep). I traded it in with 12000 miles for a 2017 EX-L that includes the safety suite; I just retired and figure that having a competent robot looking over my shoulder is a good thing. So far I am really happy having the radar self-braking and lane keep. Interestingly I only had to give the dealer $3k and extend the loan back to the original length so it feels like got the new car for no extra money over the old one!
    I can make good comparisons between the two vehicles. This video is the first one to note my biggest complaint of the 2017, NO AC SWITCH. Having to go through menus to turn on the AC is ludicrous. The automotive press complained about not having a dedicated volume control on the old model but I never noticed that (as an owner). But I really notice that there is no dedicated AC on/off switch.
    Okay, in every other way the 2017 is a big upgrade over the 2016. It is really large in all the dimensions that I care about; front seat room and comfort, back seat room and comfort, cargo space and ease of loading when doing daily chores. The gas mileage is surprisingly high for the size of this vehicle; go to Fuelly.com and look for “CRV” and “2017 CRV” with user “positron333” and see all of the fuel usage for both cars under almost identical driving conditions. Right now CRV (2016) is 26.6 mpg and 2017 CRV is 28.5 mpg. Visibility is surprisingly good all around the vehicle. The operating system works well; I have several friends with Mazda CX-5s and you can pretty much jump from any of these cars and be able to get many of the higher functions running without fuss (I’m a lifelong engineer).
    It’s not a sports car but it is fun to drive. I do at least one good sport touring motorcycle trip every year (at least a week in the Western Rockies of the US and Canada). I’m an old fart but not a slow old fart.

    • @CarnutMM
      @CarnutMM 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Howard I can turn my AC on without going through menus. It’s on the knobs. Mine s a 2019 EX-L though.
      I must say you did a great write up. Thanks for taking the time to write.

    Great informative video. I have a 2010 Forester and am looking at the new XT and the CRV Touring. Which would you recommend for a family of 3? The XT seems like it's more fun to drive but the CRV has more creature comforts.

      @FamilyWheels  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You hit the nail on the head, Oliver. If you want performance and amazing AWD, go for the Forester XT. If you want better fuel economy and creature comforts (at an impressive price), go for the CR-V.

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually prefer the Honda, honestly. The seats are better, it has better instrumentation, the infotainment system is more intuitive and the powerplant is more efficient.

      Muhammad Rahman when I build the RDX here in the states, it doesn't have a lot of the features of the new CRV such as automatic highbeams and some of the extra safety features. Seems to me the only advantage of the RDX is the V-6 engine

    Hey Paul Awesome Reviews!!!! Your real world reviews are whats missing i dislike when reviews just read off of spec sheets like we can do that ourselves but ur insight is so helpful.Now my question is that I am 20 years old my car i drive is a 96 Accord which has been in my family since 96 and its time to upgrade...I love hondas and would like your help in narrowing cars..I know hondas are built to last and mine has 200k miles. I have been looking at the crv or civic hatchback or an accord..Im 20 but since these cars are built to last i was considering the crv because down the road when a amy comes it would be a good car without needing to trade it in.I like fuel efficiency and some peppyness in the engine. I am in the states and if u have any suggestions then i would like to hear them. Im borderline on american brand vechicles because of resale. I do support anerican built and honda has been building cars here forever. My budget is around 30k dollars so hope this helps thanks so much

      Hi Josh... thanks for writing. I was REALLY impressed by the new CRV. In fact, there's a new plug-in hybrid version of this car that is apparently in the works and I could very likely buy it as our next car. If you have a background as a Honda buyer and want something that you can grow into, it seems like a really natural fit. I was NOT as impressed with the Civic hatch. I thought it was ugly and really didn't offer up any more capability. Opportunity lost, I thought. Hope that helps!

    • @Stallion3863
      @Stallion3863 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Family Wheels Thanks for the awesome response it has helped alot. The civic is officially crossed off my list. I understand your perspective and opinions on the crv and totally agree with what you are saying but how would u compare the new crv to the new accord. The accord is really spacious now and added 2 inches of leg room to the rear, so im going to rewatch your video on it again. I think the crv would be perfect for many buyers if honda offered and brought te new 2.0 turbo engine and 10 speed auto from the accord to the new crv, that would turn alot of heads and help with merging in traffic. Im torn between the new accord and crv. Would the accord be practical for your family having booster seats and diaper bags and what not.

    Great Review, very detailed. My wife and I are trying to decide between the 2017 Rav4 XLE and 2017 CRV EX-L. Which one is quieter and is the CRV's turbo lag bad?

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for writing, Cody. I wasn't using the decibel reader when we were last in the RAV4 but the CRV was pretty good on this front. You will notice the lag during sudden acceleration but once up to speed, this car is surprisingly zippy for such a small engine. It left us impressed!

    • @codysantor
      @codysantor 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I tested one last week . The shifter feels cheap and the CVT is a little bit noisy. I don't like CVT but compared to the Subaru's one the outback or the forester have a better software. Ride is excellent and comfort . I'll wait the new Tiguan in next fall to see if that one can haul Moore than 2,000 lbs. the CRV is only rated 1,500

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed on the shifter knob feel, David. It's a very strange oversight since the rest of the car feels so tight. 1500 lbs isn't much but when you consider that this is a 1.5 L engine pulled from a Civic, it's still respectable and could haul a small motorbike trailer or something. Thanks for watching.

    So, just because Canada has a new production facility, that means that the states can't have a panoramic sunroof? I don't get it?

    I purchased a 2017 CR-V a month ago, trading in my 2014 Honda Accord. I opted for the LX model, not just for the price, but because it has the same 2.4 liter engine as the Accord, which I feel is an excellent, proven engine with decent power and economy. The new 1.5 turbo is smaller than my motorcycle engine! I know Honda is famous for it's small engine technology, but the CR-V seems like an awfully lot of weight for that tiny engine to haul around, even turbocharged. Will it still be putting out enough power in five or ten years?
    I really like the new CR-V style, and I'm surprised at how many compliments I've received on the way it looks. Visibility is excellent with the increased height.

    • @FamilyWheels

    I'm shopping around for a new car.. I'm torn between the 2017 crv and sorrento. I am in Canada, and the 48 month lease payments are pretty much the same for the Touring vs. the Sx V6.
    I know they really aren't in the same class.. but because they are the same price, I'm cross shopping them.
    I like the Sorento because of the 3 rows, v6, and interior amenities.
    I like the crv because I've been driving Hondas and Acuras for the past 25 years.
    What are your thoughts?

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Alberto... thanks for writing. I was surprised by how underpowered the V6 Kia felt while conversely the CR-V's little 1.5 L felt far peppier than I'd expected. Both have really excellent interiors. If there's even a chance that you need to tow or need the extra space or third row than the Kia is the obvious choice. But if this is strictly a small city car for you, the CR-V, I think, is perfect. Its efficient, peppy, has great value and greater resale. Hope that helps.

    My wife and I are looking to get a crossover or full size SUV and the market is saturated with them.
    what would you go for: CRV, Nissan Rogue, Mazda CX5 or Subaru Forester.
    to make it more complicated, I like the CX9 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel.. and we live in Ontario.
    reliability and cost of ownership are important.
    thanks

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! You've chosen a great short list. All of which have their pros and cons. I really liked the CR-V but would be tempted to wait until 2018 to make sure any bugs that pop up in the redesign are ironed out. Next on my list would be the Forester followed by the CX-9... both of which have great standard equipment. Of course, Subaru is famous for its AWD and it's great that you don't have to pay more on top of the base price for it, like you do in so many other SUVs. I have a couple friends with the Rogue and they report it to be a bit gutless, it will also have poorer resale. The Jeep would have the worst resale. They've been having issues with transmissions of late (but I'm not sure if that also applies to the Grand Cherokee). Hope that helps.

      I had a 2016 forester xt. I liked the car, and it was certainly fun to drive. that being said, the honda has the better interior, is less expensive, and gets about 6mpg better on regular fuel. I guess it would all depend on what you're looking for in a car.

    Honda should quickly correct the gear shift problem. It has been bought up in two other reviews I have watched online...!

    • @S2kDude36
      @S2kDude36 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's probably the same press vehicle in each of the reviews with the three reviews with same loose gear shift.

      Probably not, this review is done in BC, the other two I watched were from Ontario and the US.

    Why does the Canadian version have A panoramic sunroof

    • @FamilyWheels

      Our is manufactured in Ontario. I don't know where US CR-Vs are made but it might just be a plant to plant difference.

      This is what's new about it, Luke... from the Honda literature: "the CR-V has an all-new one-motion dive-down 60/40 split rear seat design. The design also allows a single motion to return each side to the upright position."

      Family Wheels thank you! I know the previous one had one motion release, must also be the one motion return that is new.

      I'm sorry I think you're asking me, if not then please ignore. This is my first SUV (and first new car). I love it. I primarily drive a Subaru Impreza, this CRV is now the "family" car. It handles well, rides smooth, road feel is a little muted for my taste if this was my primary car (I like sporty, stiff suspensions) but I think I would prefer this slightly muted road feel when on long drives. If you get EX and above (I got EX-L) you'll love the standard safety features in those trims. I have already used adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist and it's amazing. The automatic braking is wonderful. It's quiet. Android Auto is wonderful. Space is immense. I'm very happy.

    Do you find the 1.5 turbo adequate? Off the mark it’s pathetic. Beyond that it gets better, but that engine is really struggling. Lastly, how in the world do you deal with lack of proper heating in Canada? I live in Iowa, USA and I can’t get the car warm! Mine also is built in Alliston. No heated steering for your friends South of the border! A Civic engine in an SUV. Really? Its been a damned cold drive to work for this American!

      I have this crv. I sweat while the heater is on. The engine with 190 horsepower is more than enough for city driving. Are you planning on tracking the crv or pass everyone you see on the street? If you are the type of driver that can't follow the flow of the traffic then look elsewhere

      s2k I purchased the 2018 CR-V EXL in December 2017. I’m definitely a “slow lane driver.” My morning commute is city driving, about 10 miles. I find my CRV is just fine above 25 mph, but struggle to keep up with even the slow pack off the mark. I’m definitely not passing the crowd or dashing between lanes. Highway power is also just fine. Wonderingly if the AWD May be slowing it down or perhaps fuel? 87 octane mixed with 10% ethanol. It’s in the 30’s now here are care takes about 7 or 8 miles of city driving to warm off the cold mark in the gauge.

    Coming to the left lane near you, blinker on, 5 under speed limit. Probably because they are adjusting the HVAC via a touch screen. What a stupid design decision by Honda.
