Cannot be more epic than this: Band: Mastodon Album: Leviathan Song: Megalodon Lead Singer: A Cave man Back up vocals: A cross between a Pterodactyl and a dying smilodon.
"Your mastodon " lol!! I saw them with dillinger and ever since have loved everything they put out because their growth as musicians and song writers is incredible. Being a guitarist and drummer for 3 decades this band has always delivered, especially inspired
Everytime i watch a live mastodon video, i have hope that they'll sing well, or even just decently. Never has that wish been fulfilled. I still love them though.
these guys are so exciting to see live and this song is killer in the sense that it has so much different stuff going on in it..hope I get to see them next month!!
One thing here is Brent isn’t trying to conserve anything or save face. He’s going for it and blowing his voice out as he does it. That’s metal as fuck.
I think Brent's vocals can be excused here as I believe he had a pretty bad throat infection at the time. Imagine just how painful it has to be to do screaming vocals while your throat is burning with bacteria.
Haha! Brent sounds hilariously amazing, It's like he has two voices! It's terrifying! At least they didn't cancel the show like gimps because of it :D True rock band! xx
I have heard brent was suffering from some strep throat like illness, making it painful for him too sing. But instead of pussying out, he became a troll and growled his way threw the setlist, blowing all the minds in a 10 mile radius in the process.
@81Knucklehead Did you not notice that they played the song damn near perfect in a live setting? Mastodon have NEVER been a band with great live vocals, but if you look past that, they're amazing live. Seeing them on the final show of the Crack the Skye tour cycle was incredible. A live performance will never sound cd quality in every aspect because it's just that...a LIVE version where things aren't always perfect.
Dude had a throat infection during this performance that's why it sounds so jacked up. He did his best and even though he was probably sick as all fucked and hopped up on an insane amount of meds, he still bailed his shit perfectly.
Everyone who keeps giving their two cents about Mastodon's vocals, bear in mind when they first formed none of them wanted to sing, which is why they had a frontman. Eric Saner. Who left the bad right before a big tour. So they needed someone to "grunt or something" as Bill said, so Troy and Brent stepped up.
I love how it looks so casual like a bunch of bands just went like "hey let's put up a stage" and they happened to be the best metal bands in the world
In case nobody knew, Brent Hinds had an intense throat problem at the time, but instead of pussying out, he decied to do the vocals anyway. He doesn't deserve to be made fun of.
people who dis on Mastodon's live vocals have probably never seen them live, unless it was on some video or something. The video quality honestly ruins their live vocals, its kinda weird. i had the pleasure of seeing them at red rocks in 2010, and it was an amazing performance. vocals were great. people just need to stop being ignorant..
simplethunder this isn't even that bad. it's when they ~try~ to sing when things go downhill the last baron is my favorite mastodon track but they fuck up the vocals live. instrumentals are always top notch tho so its aight i guess my nigga
Besides Priests "Painkiller" this song is the best metal song written in the last 10 yrs.Dont argue this statement becasuse ive never been wrong in my life. And Im not complete on my Mastodon knowledge but whats wrong with there vocals, I love the way they both "sing/scream"
it's a incredible coincidence that a band called Mastodon, playing a song called Megalodon, has a pterodactyl on the vocals at 2:47.
Pqp hauahuaha
Mastodon band
Leviathan album
Megalodon song
Pterodactyl vocalist
.... ok
Fan of Mastodon. Dont get me wrong
Lol you made my day 😂😂😂
Haha you are fucked up. He was sick during the show. Wear your mask next time you watch this. COVID been around for a long time.
Still the best mastodon comment on the internet, after all these years
Cannot be more epic than this:
Band: Mastodon
Album: Leviathan
Song: Megalodon
Lead Singer: A Cave man
Back up vocals: A cross between a Pterodactyl and a dying smilodon.
Drummer: Octopus
@@Piece-Of-Time I hope this one at least has friends
@@Kalibre97he’s the ruiner so probably not
@Kalibre97 @Piece-Of-Time these 3 comment replies are so funny I cannot stop laughing
@@Kalibre97 octopus has no friends :)
Not sure if Brent needs a doctor for his voice, or an archaeologist to authenticate his prehistoric screeching.
Or just some cold medicine.
2:47 this makes me the happiest person in the whole world
lmao im right there with you
It’s tasteful trash. God I fucken love it
Been around for 21 years now. Not 1 bad album.
Love emperor of sand
Definitely would dissagree but the band rocks nonetheless.
U what 😆
Straight facts, most of their albums sound different but they all fuckin kickass.
Straight up. If u think they have a bad album u just don't fuckin get it my dude.
This is my Mastodon, when they literally had minimal vocal talent. Just 4 dudes on a mission with a ridiculous amount of passion.
What are you talking about? Troy always had massive vocal talent
And smoking tons of crack. One of the best live performances ever man.
Their improvement is amazing too. Went from writing epic metal albums to writing epic metal albums that win Grammys
And acid. Don’t forget about acid.
"Your mastodon " lol!! I saw them with dillinger and ever since have loved everything they put out because their growth as musicians and song writers is incredible. Being a guitarist and drummer for 3 decades this band has always delivered, especially inspired
Holy shit who knew a throat infection could somehow make Brent's voice even cooler
I respect Brent going up there and giving it his all even though his voice wasn't doing so well.
when brent punts that marshall into the next realm at around the 2 minute mark it always brings a smile to my mug
2:05
me too, man haha he's havin fun!
I bet it would take forever to get a beer at a show like this.
brent is love
Brent is life
Brent channelled a Pterodactyl
Axiom Ape Brent's throat is secretly a colony of cats with sandpaper dildos planted in their intestines.
On the drums, Randy Rhoads...
Kevan Dalzell #BrennRhoads
Polka dots haha
Branndy Rhoads
Man, Troy is such a beast on bass. 🙌
Brent's throat infection made this so much more epic
Mastodon are the best. Awesome riffs, brutal vocals and awesome drumming.
god the riff after the chorus with the quick drum with fill is the best shit ever
Am I the only one Who find this performance good as fuck with balls that Mastodon had in the past ?
Brent sounded like the waterboy when he screamed. I love this band.
Anyone else hear Brent add in the slight discordance of tone in some parts for live brutality sake? Fuckin A+ entertainer, real talk.
no that's actually what he sounded like in early mastodon
he was doin what he could and leaning into it a lil bit yeah
2007 seemed to be a great year for Download festival.
i've seen several vids of many bands and the crowd was insane in all shows.
Everytime i watch a live mastodon video, i have hope that they'll sing well, or even just decently. Never has that wish been fulfilled. I still love them though.
these guys are so exciting to see live and this song is killer in the sense that it has so much different stuff going on in it..hope I get to see them next month!!
You get to see them?
the best banjo sounding solo ever. it inspired my own style
This song has killer intro \m/
One thing here is Brent isn’t trying to conserve anything or save face. He’s going for it and blowing his voice out as he does it. That’s metal as fuck.
Brent screaming like a dying cat with a sore throat!!...FKNG Epic performance 1:12..LMFAO!!
I think his voice is still insanely awesome with it!
When you have a Neanderthal and Pterodactyl on vocals, it’s just life-changing
2:05 AMP fine tuning.
I love how Brendt freaks out at 1:10
I think Brent's vocals can be excused here as I believe he had a pretty bad throat infection at the time. Imagine just how painful it has to be to do screaming vocals while your throat is burning with bacteria.
moshpits are the absolute most beuatiful thing i have ever seen when it comes to music
Haha! Brent sounds hilariously amazing, It's like he has two voices! It's terrifying!
At least they didn't cancel the show like gimps because of it :D
True rock band!
xx
I have heard brent was suffering from some strep throat like illness, making it painful for him too sing. But instead of pussying out, he became a troll and growled his way threw the setlist, blowing all the minds in a 10 mile radius in the process.
I think I love Brent infinitely more for all the videos from Download.
MAN CRUSH.
2:05 FUCKING AMP! ^^
KILLER Band , The BEST Metal Band !!
Jimi Hendrix best band of all time
Kvng Christian wouldn't say that, technical skill isn't the one factor
Whats more badass than a polka dot drum kit!!! love mastodon
they've come a long way since this. New Brazil video is excellent .
this is such a well put together song i think. probably my favorite from leviathan. i love it.
This is such a badass song.
It's even more badass live.
and Mastodon is badass btw.
that's a winning combo.
Ironically enough, that crappy screaming was perfect for the song
i think that 2:49 should be just repeated on loop forever and used as a military torture device
absolutely brilliant :D
that headbang at 1:10 ...... EPIC
AMAZING song
@81Knucklehead Did you not notice that they played the song damn near perfect in a live setting? It really is...
I saw one at the Gibson Custom show by my house the other day...
About 4 grand.
One of my favorite Mastodon songs!
Those circle pits are awesome
the best song on the album
Dude had a throat infection during this performance that's why it sounds so jacked up. He did his best and even though he was probably sick as all fucked and hopped up on an insane amount of meds, he still bailed his shit perfectly.
I was there. Awesome.
Oh wait! I can hear the Bass! Omg

brents screaming @ 2:48 sounds like demons are being released from hell
This kicks so much ass on so many levels.
wow like 2000 people and only 20 are actually going nuts like they should be...
WOW
I love how it looks so casual like a bunch of bands just went like "hey let's put up a stage" and they happened to be the best metal bands in the world
3:40 "'Ey yo Troy, Ima use yo' mic, cool? cool."
I so don't remember this concert bein' so good, but I'm fuckin' LOVING it now.
I love mastodon and they kick monster ass times 10000 but to make them even more metal...brent NEEDS to record one song while sick it would sound epic
Saw these guys at Mayhem 2013 in Auburn. They put on a hell of a show.
@KoreXocution It was only at Download 07 where Brent had a throat infection. He doesn't bring the band down at all!
12+ years later this shit still RRIPPPPPPPSSSSS
saw that song live
GREAT
Oh God, I missed the kitten sound :-D
Butt man To me, it's always sounded like a screaming pterodactyl.
awkwardpizza
xD
I always called a grandma screaming at the guy who just took her purse.
Dylan Willis called it a grandma (on mobile can't edit)
cannot. stop. listening.
he does have jazz roots, i love the way he plays
In case nobody knew, Brent Hinds had an intense throat problem at the time, but instead of pussying out, he decied to do the vocals anyway. He doesn't deserve to be made fun of.
hell yeah!!! and the speed-up after is soo good to!(=
I wish all the real Mastodon fans would all go to one of these and just have a sick crowd and give them what they deserve.
I quite like Brents vocal performance, it's pretty funny and makes the show even more enjoyable and unique.
God this is amazing.
I love Mastodon, they are fucking awsome!
I could totally imagine a pterodactyl like 65 million years ago flying around making that exact noise. It is probably Brent's spirit animal.
Did anybody else catch Brent's literal "head kick" at 2:06?! That's pretty badass.
people who dis on Mastodon's live vocals have probably never seen them live, unless it was on some video or something. The video quality honestly ruins their live vocals, its kinda weird. i had the pleasure of seeing them at red rocks in 2010, and it was an amazing performance. vocals were great. people just need to stop being ignorant..
ROFL BRENT...
man why does he sound like he's about to explode in every life performance??
I love that bit. The first time I heard it it physically made me look up confused :P
my favorite mastodon song, used it in my band name
sweet song
this video didnt' give bill much love
yeah man
Nonstop insanity
If you're listening to the vocals you're completely missing the point.
the vocals rock!! \o/
simplethunder this isn't even that bad. it's when they ~try~ to sing when things go downhill the last baron is my favorite mastodon track but they fuck up the vocals live. instrumentals are always top notch tho so its aight i guess my nigga
This is entirely mind blowing tbh, vocals included
simplethunder no you're not. The lyrics are fucking sweet in megladon. I wish Brent didn't blow it.
I know this is late but I have to say it... I love your picture.
I wish i could have seen that show
I love Brent's guttural squelchy voice.
When the metal Venn diagram of Technically Sound and Insanely Popular/Respected converge...
man i'd be fuckin scared playing this song live, the timing is fucking hard
God I love that mullet.
Yep.
Nothing will ever beat Pterodactyl Brent Hinds vocals
A shame Troy can't scream anymore xD
Brent's screams are incredible.
Great band
seeing mastodon at sonisphere next weekend :) guna be awesome
Besides Priests "Painkiller" this song is the best metal song written in the last 10 yrs.Dont argue this statement becasuse ive never been wrong in my life. And Im not complete on my Mastodon knowledge but whats wrong with there vocals, I love the way they both "sing/scream"
So fucking awesome.
Давно нечего стоящего не видел, вот это пониманю отожгли!! аррр }=]
