I want to feel sorry for Peter in this episode given how his mother treated him but its so hard to feel sorry for him. I cannot forgive him. Por Becca.. Peter is horrible and selfish. Now they want to possess the kids, Rebecca's fate was so sad. She was so upset when she found out what Peter did to her..
I love how Mike Flanagan uses the concept of literal possession to describe Rebecca's and Peter's relationship. He was truly possessive of her. Mike is a genius.
Dani!!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not fair.. there seems to be a recurring them in this show. Between possessive love and unconditional love. 😭😭😭😭😭😭

So glad ya’ll actually caught that Peter was physically and sexually abused by his father and his mother let it happen. A lot of people either ignore or miss that. When they do the "it's you, it's me, it's us" that means that the ghosts can permanently possess the humans and THAT's how they're able to leave the property. I think Peter's plan was to have him and Rebecca fully possess the children so that they can leave Bly Manor and live normal lives. Because presumably the children's bodies would grow up and they'd probably be able to be together once the children become teenagers or adults. Like Nikki said for full possession to happen the host needs to accept it. It harkens back to the conversation that Miles had with the priest when he was discussing the Bible story about the man possessed by demons. He asked the priest if people need permission to be possessed and the priest said yes, people always have a choice.

Yeah, but, unless I missed something, I don’t think we’ve seen anything to suggest that they-Peter and Rebecca-could actually leave the property while possessing the kids’ bodies. The next episode is probably my favorite out of the whole season despite my love for the finale. I wont spoil it but it explains the house and all the ghosts.
I think the plan for Peter and Rebecca was to take over the kids so that they simply wouldn't forget themselves as time goes on. I dont think they can leave even when possessing the kids, otherwise Peter wouldve just left and lived as Rebecca.
Quick explanation for something I just realized (no spoilers): the little boy ghost helps Flora with the dollhouse. Eveyone has a doll and Flora uses them and the house to keep track of everyone. You see the boy playing with it earlier. Hes helping her track everyone. The doll Flora keeps under the dresser is the Lady and the dresser represents the lake. The boy must've moved it to the middle of the floor to warn Flora that the Lady was on her way across the property (across the room) to the house. So when Dani trips over it, the kids lock her in the closet to keep her from crossing paths with the Lady.
Also, you get a hint earlier on about the identity of the Lady when Flora is making imprints of the headstones.

I really like how the "Haunting of" series covers all kind of ghosts. There ones that are no longer aware of who they were and why they are trapped there, and there are others that are completely like normal persons, with the only difference that they are just an apparition.
By the way in the original story Peter is not a victim of pedophilia, he is one himself.

I think Peter's backstory makes me feel pity for him, not so much sympathy. The guy was dealt an awful hand in life, and the implied things that were done to him were unspeakable. The fact that he grew up to have some serious issues is completely understandable. His treatment of Rebecca, willingness to rob Flora and Miles of their agency, and discompassionate murder of Hannah (not to mention plan to murder Dani) pretty much removes any sympathy I may have had for him. I really do appreciate that the writers did at least make him a fleshed out villain rather than someone who is irrationally evil. As Nikki has pointed out: he's toxic. That's not the same as being a supervillain. He has reasons for thinking the way he thinks and doing the things he does. Not justifiable given scrutiny, but somewhat understandable.

I thought that the writing and acting for Peter when he confronted his mother about letting his father assumedly sexually abuse him was one of the most touching and well done scenes, but it was brought up so briefly that it felt like it was thrown in last minute. It kind of felt like it was reinforcing the stigma that those who are abused will become abusers. It's a trope that's been disproven in reality and causes stigma for those who are abused. I think it was supposed to make him a bit sympathetic, but he never really talked about it, or how he could manipulate Miles and take over his body in that way if that was done to him. There are a lot of similarities between possession and rape (ie: the feeling that your body isn't yours anymore) that I think they were very vague about and they could have used his backstory to explain that and make it hard for him to manipulate Miles, but they just made the abused kid evil like we've seen on too many crime shows etc.

It’s about will. When Peter and Becs possess Miles and Flora, their will is more powerful and they immediately take control. When Peter first possesses Becs, his will supersedes hers. But only momentarily. There is an internal/subconscious struggle, and, eventually, the living person is the one who wins that struggle. If the living one decides to voluntarily give up that fight (“it’s you, it’s me, it’s us”), the living person forfeits the right to exert their will, and they (immediately or eventually) *lose*.

Peter was a shit in death as he was in life. Abandoning Rebecca at the last second and leaving her to drown by herself was really messed up. Then he continues by tormenting her with her own memories. I would haunt his ass for that.
How bad do the kids miss their parents that they are willing to be put away in good memories of them so ghosts can take over the bodies?

I do feel sorry for Peter. He was broken, poison poured into his soul at an early age. Doesn't make him any less toxic, any less damaged, any less dangerous. But...more pitiable.

Obviously not that it excuses what he did, but you can totally see why Peter didn't feel bad about permanently possessing the children. When you compare it to his childhood full of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, he truly believes that they are "lucky" to be tucked away permanently with their non-abusive parents and reliving the best moments of their lives. So sad
