What makes this so deep, in my opinion, is that: in a way, joker really does need batman because he was the biggest thing that helped joker cling on to what little sanity he had left. Joker saw beating batman as his purpose in life, and now that he's lost batman forever, he can't handle it.

"...I need you..." - Mark Hamill's final lines as the Joker. Fuck, I'm seriously depressed right now. You know the creators have done something right when you get teared up seeing your favorite psychopath soar into oblivion. Deep.

BloodyFlowerFilms The symbolism is strong here.
The entire game itself was just batman in mid-life crisis / identity issues. Not just the external stuff happening around. (If you gaze deep enough)
Bruce realizes despite wanting to get rid of his greatest enemy - but without joker...he final line "I need you." Hits its real good in the feels. Even Batman got the feels.
Batman realizes he cannot exist without the other, and samewise for joker albeit he's already gone, but the projected spirit within him/ whether the joker blood can be interpreted as either a real/metaphorical/mental/or just plain imaginary, it didn't matter.
Such Opposite/Similarity/Dualism themes, if you see the game through and through, you can feel the themes.
It's like that fan-comic "The Deal", it so alludes to it.
Batman really died when the Joker died. (Back then in Arkham City) spiritually.
But this step through realization, set him free not without regret. But Death and Rebirth is kinda a theme I'm seeing.
But back to why they need each other, each other fuels one another.
You can even say this game's ending is open to more interpretation.
But one theme strikes me most, they have their own ways of dealing and doing things but always end up meeting each other, but the hidden theme is real, their identities as batman and joker. Their interactions, their rivalry, everything.
It reveals their true inner nature; the need for each other and what they are to each other and the way they see themselves and why they're like this. Fueled by above^
Anything can be true up to anyone's own interpretations on the entire game/ ending /aftermath.
But this scene, hits me so hard. I just lost it and wanted to write this wall of text full o' feels.
      > Haven't played the entire game nor experienced the entire story, but man this scene...

Something I love about this sequence is how the player has spent the entire game listening to the Joker's ghost/manifestation of Bruce's illness and fear toxin, whatever , make these VERY petty dark jokes about Barbara's paralysing, Jason Todd's torture, etc.

He liked to present himself as an agent of chaos and destruction. His fearsome reputation added further to his ego. Yet, for all his struggles, for all his murders and all the destruction he sowed - like all serial killers, like all those would-be tyrants and lunatics, he died just the same.

Came here to double check and I was right. This is the suspended isolation chamber Joker rode away atop in the opening sequences of Arkham Asylum. Same zoom as the doors closed and everything. I love the attention to detail and the added poetic justice that Rocksteady built into this final scene. Really shows how much they loved making these games and how it made them that much better because of it.

    • @leonardowynnwidodo9704
      @leonardowynnwidodo9704 ปีที่แล้ว +6

This may be because in Arkham Asylum Joker allowed Batman one chance to kill him but the latter refrained from doing so. So when Batman finally defeats him, the chamber may be symbolised that Batman finally “killed” him in his mind.

Of course his Batman voice isn't going to be as powerful as it was in Animated Series, the Justice League cartoon or any animated movies he voiced Bruce Wayne/Batman in. While it sounded sad the way Joker said I need you, he fucking deserved it. Don't get me wrong, the Joker is without a doubt is one of the greatest villains in fiction, but he's pure evil man who brings death and chaos because it entertains him. This defeat of the character actually makes sense, as the Joker usually potrayed as a force of nature, however this scene perfectly illustrates that while the Joker was definitley the most dangerous terrorist of Gotham City, he was just a man. A man who was afraid of being forgotten.
