- Installing a Euromotoelectrics Enduralast Digital Ignition System into a vintage BMW airhead. My 35 year old bean can finally let me down. It's been sticking at high idle when hot for a year or two, the milage on my last tank of gas was horrible and it's been running pretty rough lately. Finally, it broke down about a mile from getting me home. It would idle fine, but it backfired and bogged down when I twisted the throttle. Exactly what I'd expect from an engine not advancing the spark properly. In this step by step video, I show you everything I did to replace it. I have no affiliate with EME, the kit was purchased online and installed according to (well, mostly according to) the included instructions. The whole process was a breeze and required no special tools. I've put 200km on the bike since the swap and it's soooo much better now!

I have the Silent Hektic competitor on my 860. There are obviously differences, but they either make a huge difference to low down RPM, starting and tickover. SH also make a permanent magnet alternator to go with it, which makes it even better. But it's not cheap!
Thanks for posting this video. I'm doing a restoration of my R80 ST and had the bike disassembled before I chose to do the electronic ignition with a new stock wiring harness. Your video helped me see how to use the included wiring subharness to connect to the stock electrical. Thanks!
No problem 👍
Wow, that was a quick cold start!
another great one looks like its not too complicated this upgrade should a must
Super video of the process! Excellent source for reference. Nice work! Thanks for posting!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome. Optical looks looks like the way to go!
Thank you very much for sharing! I think I will need to do the same with my 1980 R80/7.
Very helpful and informative video, thanks for sharing.
👍👏👍👏👍
Gracias, aprendí mucho con este video
Nice video 👍
Tnx f sharing
Dear Jason Selinger! Thank so you very much for a very pleasant and informative video, without noisy music and talk-talk-talk! The video was relevant for me because I had trouble with the ignition on my 1983 BMW R100 RS. I thought it was the Hall-effect sensor, but it turned out to be just a broken cable. Fixed now. But there will probably come a day when the sensor will eventually fail, and to replace one of those is a lot of work. Entering the bean can is no picnic! And I do not want to give up my RS, as it's the best overall motorcycle I've ever owned or driven. And that's quite a few over the last forty years. So then, perhaps an optical solution will be chosen? Thanks a lot, I'll watch your other videos too, and probably subscribe! 🙂
Hi Jason , just about to upgrade from a hall ignition , looking at the enduralast and the wedgetail . Have you had any issues in the last year
Very helpful! Can you advise how you "select appropriate advance curve"? Is that information included somewhere? I have an 89 R100GS and I'm thinking about doing this upgrade. Your video is super.
Two thoughts, either ask the supplier, or just try it on each one and see what you prefer. I'm not sure otherwise.
@@jasonselinger Thank Jason. I got the instructions and see that I just need to put it in the stock / single plugged heads setting. Thanks again for your video - it helped me on many levels, particularly where I needed additional info / visual related to the written direction. Cheers!
@@robdussler6371 That’s awesome, I’m really happy my video helped you! Safe riding!
