    12:00 What's the purpose of the "foot" of the grommet? I purchased the original Plus-Battery-Cable from BMW which had the grommet already installed onto it but apparently in the wrong direction. The cable itself can only be installed in the right orientation bc the ring terminal on the starter is bigger than the one for the battery.
    Another question: Does the cable that plugs into the cable of the "beancan" (and on the other side into the ignition control unit) need to pass through the grommet of the battery-plus-cable (free spot on the back)?
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Peter

      Peter, I don't know why BMW uses a slot for the two grommets in the inner timing cover. The bean can cable does use the rear hole in the battery (+) cable grommet. The link in the video description contains more details about this installation:

      @@BrooksAirheadGarage Thanks for the response, Brook!
      Do you also know if I need to turn my grommet (as installed by BMW, see my first comment) around or is the orientation of the grommet not that important?
      Thanks,
      Peter

      @@MrBestvirginia I show the orientation of the grommet on the battery cable before installing the cable, so when you loop the battery cable the grommet is oriented correctly to fit in the groove in the inner timing cover.

    Hi Brook, thank you for the video. I have a problem with my charging system. When my ignition key is ON, the GEN lamp goes ON brightly, but it only fades a bit when the engine is revv'd up. I tested the diode board, the rotor and the rectifier all are good and the brushes are in good shape. What else could it be the cause of the low charging?

    • @BrooksAirheadGarage
      @BrooksAirheadGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Francesco, it could be the voltage regulator is not working correctly.

      @@BrooksAirheadGarage Hi Brook, thank you. I replaced the voltage regulator with a spare unit that I have and it did not solve the issue. It may be that the spare unit is also faulty!? Never say never. Is there any quick test I can do to check the voltage regulator?

      @@francescofalsini1807 Here is a link to testing the regulator published by Bob Fleischer, aka "Snowbum"

      And this one covers testing the entire charging system.

    Hi, I have a r80/7 rewiring the bike.Have a dana 3 ignition. My problem is no sure how to wire up the daily coils. I have a red,white,brown,2 black wires all from the dana black box. I looked up the wiring diagram online but does not help me.

      John,
      The RED and WHITE wires connect to the RED and WHITE wires that come from the ignition module under the front timing cover. This document shows how I install the Dyna III ignition system.
