Its surprising how many 4G63 motors are used in Clark, Komatsu (and of corse) Mitsubishi forklifts. The three biggest differences are that the industrial 4G63's use dual counter-balance shafts instead of a single, a single overhead cam instead of DOHC's (and of course) aren't turbocharged. They are tough little motors.
i agree, engine build looked just fine, only think im not sure of was he didnt lube the cylinder walls while installing the pistons but other than that the whole build was done right.
I build mitsu 4g63 motors that make over 1000 WHP. This build is fine! I assume the block was machined properly, and the ring gap was already set prior to the video.
when you published this vid i was 16 worked at whataburger and had dreams of a gsx, i eventualy bought a 97 gst a year later. had it for three years then sold it. i see the publish date and its crazy how time flies by so fast, im turning 26 on november and i recently bought a 99 gst spyder in search of a gsx i have failed to purchase a gsx but thought i might start with something then i will eventually find a gsx within my budget and swap parts over..
i rebuilt one of these when i was 14, took me damn near 2 monthes, but i finished it, all myself, and it ran, wish i woulda had access to somthing like this at that time, woulda saved me 2 or 3 weeks haha
Great video, I love how you know all the procedures that go into overhauling the engine. As a fellow 4G63 owner, I'd be interested in knowing how long it really took you to build the engine, because let's not kid ourselves here, There's no way anything could build that work of art in 10 minutes.
the ring end gaps should be ground from the outside in preventing a bur from forming on the outside of the ring or damaging the coating on the outside of the ring/s.
The only bearing I've hear that you don't directly touch are tri-metal bearings. Most modern bearing it doesn't matter. My only gripe on the whole thing that I saw was that the hear and crank bolts weren't incrementally tightened... looks like they were just torqued in one go.
As long as you have all your parts and specs ready to go it only takes about 2 hours to assemble a bare motor with have everything torqued down to spec. Maybe 3 if you have to file the rings if piston ring end gap is incorrect.
I would have thought the same thing, that's part of taking the time to do things the right way, although atleast he torqued them in the right sequence. It's still an impressive build, if it only lasts him a week, he still has the satisfaction that he built it on his own right?
@Phoenixfiresh You will need a lot of fabrication to put the Mivec 4G63T in a GSX as it sits on the opposite side of the engine bay. I'd like to see it one day though. Good luck.
@rambow70 Also if you do commit to any work, also get a good repair manual to help you along. Haynes or Chiltons are major names. The main thing with rebuilding is to make sure you understand and put it in right. Even if it takes more time to recheck and double recheck everything, its worth it.
@rambow70 well when I was looking into the how to's for a 4g63t the engine specific questions I had were already answered on the main DSM forum. Other than that rebuilding the engine is pretty universal.
Awesome video, watched this a couple times because its very interesting!! I noticed you were spinning the crankshaft after installing the bearings...is that ok to do that? I saw an install of a big block Chevy and was told not to spin the crank after lubing up the bearings and rods
Fuck plasti-gauge am I rite? This was hilarious! I would have paid money to watch that engine run (if it ever did) just to watch it literally rattle itself apart.
@rambow70 Do your research. Its all here on the web. The only thing you should really have to get professional help is in the tuning. (also read full product description to make sure its compatible on your engine, if you buy anything)
in minute 2:37 what where you doing to that piston ring? just to know because im thinking in building my 4g63 95 eclipse gst, i want to really know how to do it. thanks for this video btw it helps a lot :)
How did you learn how to do all this? I have gst with the same engine (obvi) and i want to do a lot of work but i just lack the knowledge base. Where did you go to learn this? Or did someone just teach you
What is that "LUBE" in the red container he is putting on the bearings? Im about to put my block back together (4G64 DOHC) and dont want to fuck it up and the the spray he is using for the gaske? I use silicone for that, but never seen a spray for it. It would save me time and all the mess that comes with silicone.
if you buy a gs, it will not have the 4g63 motor shown in this vid... it still has a 2.0l 4, but it is not anywhere near as responsive to turbocharging. If you wish to do a swap, it will be extremely time consuming and very pricey. a new 4g63 costs around 2 grand, and then throw in another grand for a turbo and wastegate, and yet another 5-800 dollars for a tranny. If you arent mechanically inclined, throw in several thousand in labor... so all said and done, it would cost $4000-6000
no ring pliers and grind the rings down inward to you not out, and were 3min. in, but that's none of my business lol pretty sure studs go down with 3 steps of torqueing too
IMPRESSIVE TIME...AND GOOD JOB !!! WERE BOLT TORQUE SPECS CORRECT? BUT THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE IN TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED ENGINE BUILD AREA OF AROUND 70-75 aka ENGINE CLEAN ROOM or OPERATING ROOM KEEP IN MIND METAL SHRINKS IN COLD AND EXPANDS IN HEAT... rules numbers and conditions must be observed for MONSTER PERFORMANCE of Sirus80 / yon-G-roku-san
Checking ring gap and then filing to open it by the thousandths. If you didn't know that part needed to be done, you may want to let a professional build your engine.
Great work man, the 4G53T is truly a legendary engine!
I like that extra attention to detail like piston ring gap. That's what makes engine extra reliable.
Its surprising how many 4G63 motors are used in Clark, Komatsu (and of corse) Mitsubishi forklifts.

4G63 really are bullet proof!

fern car I got a first gen dsm 92 laser rs awd and is absolutely fun. One owner since 92.
Why on earth would you ever buy a spyder?
i rebuilt one of these when i was 14, took me damn near 2 monthes, but i finished it, all myself, and it ran, wish i woulda had access to somthing like this at that time, woulda saved me 2 or 3 weeks haha
The balance belt is notorious for breaking and taking out the timing belt. Our whole race team has it removed.

awesome build.. post a video of that thing cruising

Joder de estos videos tendria que haber mas en yotube joder.
excelente, excelent y en todos los idiomas un 200 por el video.
he still did the cross-tighten effect it was PERFECT but it was good lol.
great time laps mate will help me plenty
5:55 lol
great build, man i always wanted to do something like this.
That would be pretty fun to see.
cool rebuild 5 stars
what is that you used in the water pump gasket??
some kind of spray sealer??
never saw that before
DAMNIT! As I clicked the video just now I said to myself "Bond... James bond.." and what do I hear when I get to the clip? Nothing.

nice work. You did it in about 3 days.
3 different shirts :P

yeah that happened in the evo4 a bit but wider mains in the 5 fix most of that (i think),or you could put a 4g64 crank in it :)
this video helps alot specaily for beginners👍
Cool Vid!
4g63 is the motor... the t at the end means turbo
and you saw him putting the turbo in the video.
thats because its probably a late 96. it had thrust bearings not washers.
LMFAO his buddy at 5:55 in the background is scratching his nuts while the other kid sticks out his tongue hilarious ....nice build vid tho good job
nice vid, the only 4g63 build on here (i can find)
What was that spray that he was applying onto the gaskets before slapping them on?
awesome video!

Engine is simple as hell. Normal mounting takes about 4-6 man hours
nice clip bt disappointed with youtube for taking out the sound
NiCE!!!
could u give me a tip how to upgrade my engine??Also 4g63...
Love this video 🤘🏼
Where's the oil baffle plate? Lol noticed it wasn't there when you were putting the oil pan on
What kind of "Spray" do you useing for the seals ? Thanks.. Great video !!
See Crank. See crankwalk. Walk Crank, Walk.
:Repeat rebuild:
in minute 2:37 what where you doing to that piston ring? just to know because im thinking in building my 4g63 95 eclipse gst, i want to really know how to do it. thanks for this video btw it helps a lot :)

@XxXStellionXxX any links on how to's for a 4g63t? Or just ask a whole bunch of questions on a dsm forum?
in a 1/4 mile highway how many second this engine could make?
You can build a rotary motor in real like in like an hour or 2. The simplest motors out there.
Chłopaki polskiego pochodzenia, hey guys best regards from Poland, awesome engine . What power has it ?
@YXPFV that spray is called COPPERCOAT
how long did this take you in real time? Nice build btw
jay huvar maybe a hole day!

The funny thing is, this song is on youtube.
what did he put on those gaskets? (spray)
How is the motor running? You should help me stroke out my 4g63t in my evo ix.
Awesome video. It is Favorited. I used Itunes for the music, lol.
Nice Video
You are need a turbonetics :))
nice bro am looking to build my evo 9 engine ...where are you located
What do you usually use for lube when putting the cams in?
Than you spray paper gaskets?
dope video bro
let it be noted that the engine lasted for 10 mins after startup before needing to do this over again
how long did you build it in real, if I could do this with engine of my car I would do it every year at the beginning of the sprong
how much did the rebuild cost, wut did u do?
pyrocra, he torqued the bolts in correct sequence according to the manual. rewatch the vid
Whats the spray ??? spray on gasket ??
sweet video, nice Jt shirt ;)
the 4g63 has an alumin block?
no ring pliers and grind the rings down inward to you not out, and were 3min. in, but that's none of my business lol pretty sure studs go down with 3 steps of torqueing too
@2.00 what is the guage metering?
Red engine assembly lube, best thing to use when building versus engine oil.
no balance shafts?
IMPRESSIVE TIME...AND GOOD JOB !!! WERE BOLT TORQUE SPECS CORRECT?

Buen video, estaría bien ver el motor arrancado
nice work!!
what did you pasted on the bearrings? (the tube) I always used engine motor oil.
Same to me, oh hi, never expect your message being replied .. hehe.
Checking ring gap and then filing to open it by the thousandths. If you didn't know that part needed to be done, you may want to let a professional build your engine.
awsome stuff guys
isnt' this block identical to the g63b block? I considered to drop this in my MM. it came stock w/ a g63b engine
it shows the ring gap being checked and filed in the video...
what about a 4g63(evo4 up)7 bolt its gearbox is on the other side
@Peter10654 Copper spray, can pick some up at any parts house.
Where you located
how long did ur engine last?
assembly lube?
what are you spraying your gaskets with??
copper spray
what are you putting on @ 7:00 ?:)
nice engine
what is being done between 2:22 and 2:50? thanks
Love the song!!!!
it has a record of 7 seconds for a street legal emissions pass
Trey Burns ?? care to clarify
ur car is 4g63 or 4g63t?
fuckin sick will you help me do mine!? You know what your doin man,how much hp is that built for that looks like the craziest 4g63t ive seen.
at 1:36, what are those studs called
did a google. they are main studssssssssssssssss
