      @SuperCarlinBrothers If you both are into Werewolf and Vampire mythos, then I highly recommend the Underworld film series. Specifically, the first three installments: "Underworld (2003), Underworld: Evolution (2006), and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009)." *WARNING:* All three films (including all the movies after them) are R-rated.
      But, if you're not interested in sitting through all three films, and perhaps, are only into the franchise's lore, here's a link to a video I came across years ago that will give you the basic rundown:

    I don’t think enough context is given to Sirius in most of these discussions. Does he deserve to be scathed? Yes. But he grew up in an abusive household, which causes deep psychological issues. He runs away at 16. The wizarding world is at war where he’s an active soldier for Dumbledore. So let’s add some PTSD to that childhood trauma. Then his best friend is killed. He is betrayed by his other best friend. Then he spends the next 12 years in a prison that sucks all happiness from him. Let’s give him depression now. Then he escapes from prison, spends his time on the run until he goes back to the abusive house he grew up in. Locked up like that is going to only exacerbate his depression and PTSD and all the issues.
    Why do people think this poor guy would be a well-adjusted human and should be a good parental figure to a traumatized child??? Sirius needs a hug and some serious psychological treatment.

    11:20 At the end of Prisoner of Azkaban, Remus says goodbye to Harry with the following: "It has been a real pleasure teaching you. I feel sure we'll meet again some time." This isn't really inviting Harry to ask him for advice in the future. Sirius' letter, on the other hand, says "If you ever need me, send word."

    The "perfect bluff" -- substitutuing Peter for Sirius -- is much misunderstood.
    It really was a good idea, that is, it would have been a GREAT idea had Peter been worthy of trust. Here's why.
    Sirius believes that Remus might be the traitor. Remus would totally expect Sirius to be the Secret Keeper (SK), so Sirius expected to be attacked, tortured, and ultimately killed.
    But he wouldn't give up the secret... in fact, he wouldn't be ABLE to, because he wouldn't be the SK. But we all know that the Fidelius charm won't allow the SK to give up the information under duress, so Sirius knew that Voldemort wouldn't expect to get the information out of him; Voldy was going to kill him **to dilute the secret**!
    Remember ... everyone who was told the secret by the SK becomes an SK, and the intensity of the protection is thus weakened.
    But by NOT being the SK, Sirius was going to use his own disappearance/death as a belwether... warning Dumbledore, Lily, and James that the Dark Lord was striking, but at the same time, not putting them any more at risk.
    It WAS, in fact, the perfect bluff. Except.... except for Peter being, well, a rat.
    BTW... you keep insisting that Sirius couldn't have visited Lily and James because of the Fidelius. But of course he could have. Peter obviously told Bathilda Bagshot the secret; there's every reason to expect that Peter also told Sirius the secret before, well, also telling it to , well, nevermind. But the point is that the Fidelius charm does permit visitors!

    • @irasoso32
      @irasoso32 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I don't agree that it would have been a good idea if Peter had been loyal. After all, Sirius knew who the real secret keeper was .... so anything Voldy could do to Sirius to get him to betray the Potters (or get im to weaken the protection) he could do to make Sirius disclose the true secret keeper .... which means Peter is the one who would be forced to weaken the protection. IMO, there are only two ways the switch could work under your theory. One is making Dumbledore the secret keeper ... if Sirius had disclosed that name as the true keeper, Voldy couldn't have gotten to Dumbledore to force him to do anything. The other is having James pick a new secret keeper and not letting Sirius know who it was.

  • @kochdogz

    I think your take on Sirius using the phrase 'the quidditch' is a British English vs American English thing.
    As an Australian, it is completely reasonable to say that you are 'going to the cricket' or 'watching the footy' to describe watching sports live or on TV. This is particularly true of traditionally British sports.

    • @Pfhorrest
      @Pfhorrest วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Even as an American myself, "coming here to watch the football" sounds perfectly natural to me. "Watching football" without the definite article sounds like you're just watching some football being played or another; "watching the football" sounds like there is some specific football being played and you are watching it. Compare also "listening to music" vs "listening to the music"; in the former, you might be listening to any music at all, while in the latter, there's some specific music that you are listening to. Say if there were a concert hall and you could hear the music played therein from outside for free; you might hang out around there to listen to the music, that which is coming from the concert hall. But you could hang out just any place and listen to music, no "the" just any old music, from your phone or whatever.

    On the issue of the Secret Keeper switch: That was actually a _really_ good idea, if not for the fact of Peter's betrayal. Because Sirius is the VERY obvious choice for Secret Keeper, and while sure, he would never have told them the secret, he can still die. And when a Secret Keeper dies, the secret loses a LOT of its protection. The one thing we know for sure is that anyone who knows at the time of Sirius's death, which would be ALL of the Marauders, are now able to share the secret with anyone they wish. Which means whoever the spy is 100% has access now, without Sirius ever betraying anyone. But with his bait-and-switch tactic, even after they get ahold of, question, and then dispose of Sirius, they're still locked out until they get to Peter, who's very likely the last one on their list. The only way that plan could possibly have gone wrong is if Peter himself had been the spy, and well....whoops. In all other cases, though, it's the optimal strategy.

    • @ericksandoval8276
      @ericksandoval8276 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      But there isn’t anything that says you can’t cast the spell again so dumbledore then could’ve stepped in and taken them away with himself as secret keeper once Sirius died. No matter what the plan would’ve broken with whoever was the secret keeper unless it were James, Lily or Dumbledore.

      Plus,for all we know,the charm may not be infallible. Who's to say Voldemort doesn't have ways of breaking spell? They don't know the limitations of Dark magic,it's safer if Voldy can't get the Secretkeeper in the first place

    • @riluna3695
      @riluna3695 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @@ericksandoval8276 I definitely agree that those three are far better options than anyone else. I can only assume that something unspecified in the rules prevents James or Lily from being it, since they're who it's protecting, but surely there's no such restriction for Dumbledore...
      The real answer to all this is that the author is bad at thinking these things through. It's a trend I've noticed, where any time the characters need to get INTO trouble, the methods for the plot to accomplish it are often sloppy and full of issues. At least she did a better job of getting them out of it again. Can't claim it's perfect, but it has a lot more care and thought put in than the reverse.

    • @heylolp9
      @heylolp9 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      I think optimal strategy would be also hiding the identity of the secret keeper with a second layer of Fidelius charm
      i.e. Have Dumbledore be the secret keeper to Peter being the secret keeper for the Potters and not Sirius
      This way it wouldn't matter at all if anyone is the Spy, because even the Spy couldn't share the secret that they're the secret keeper for the Potters
      Which would make the Fidelius charm much more powerful
      But I do think that James Potter would have seen this layer of protection against his closest friends being a spy as a slap in the face

    Speaking as a Brit, Sirius saying “the Quidditch” has never felt weird. I found it strange when you guys picked up on it on TTGD. We often refer to sports matches like that - “are you watching the football tonight?” or “I went to the cricket yesterday”. I never thought it would sound strange to American ears!
    I think we add “the” before the sport when referring to a specific game, and remove it when referring to the sport generally. Eg: “I play football” versus “I went to the football” as you’re omitting the word “game” at the end. Hope that makes sense!

The store then takes the order and receipt to Gringotts with Sirius's authorization to take the gold out of his vault. Then the broom is shipped to where the order says to. Hope this helps.

    A possible reason Sirius Black didn't send Harry a letter early on could be due to his fear for Harry's safety. Given the complex and dangerous circumstances surrounding Harry’s life, particularly with the threat of Voldemort's followers, Sirius might have been worried that any communication from him could be intercepted by the wrong people. If Harry had received a letter from Sirius, there was a real risk that it could have been discovered by someone working for the Dark Lord, such as Severus Snape or other supporters of Voldemort, which could have led to dire consequences for both Harry and Sirius.
    Sirius was also a fugitive at the time, having been wrongfully accused of betraying Harry’s parents, and was in hiding. Reaching out too directly could have exposed his location and intentions, putting both himself and Harry in even more danger. In addition, Sirius might have hoped to meet Harry in person, rather than risk complicating matters with a potentially dangerous letter that might not even reach him safely.
    Furthermore, Sirius likely wanted to protect Harry from the full truth until the time was right. Explaining everything in a letter could have been overwhelming for Harry, especially considering the trauma and emotional weight that came with learning about the events surrounding his parents' deaths and the true identity of his godfather. By waiting, he could prepare Harry for the truth in a safer, more controlled manner.

    I know this wasn't the canon reason. But suddenly it makes sense to me that perhaps Sirius was encouraged to swap with Peter not because they thought Peter would be better as a secret keeper, but they were counting on Peter being naturally cowardly to keep out of danger/stay in hiding as opposed to Sirius who as Secret Keeper I don't think would have run when he should have. Switching to Peter may have been a gambit to keep Sirius from gaining any more heat that would have likely resulted in getting himself killed.

      But Sirius was also in hiding when all that was happening. It was implied from Lilly's letter to him in DH about his first broomstick. Pretty much nothing would stop him from going to his godsons 1st birthday unless it's a safety issue.

    • @adamlawrence7772
      @adamlawrence7772 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @shayjensen7133 I agree, unless it was a safety issue, for the Potters. I think we've seen plenty of evidence to suggest that if Sirius thought only his own life was at risk, he would probably do it anyway. And though this was a post Askaban comment, the way he says that he would have died for his friends suggests a idea that he would have even been proud of or been excited by the idea of being a martyr for the friendship. I even theorize that the reason Sirius is in Gryffindor and not Hufflepuff is that he desired to be so diametrically opposed to his family ways that he actively tried to emulate what he perceived as the exact opposite behavior, to an extremist extent.

  • @Maholix
    @Maholix วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    I feel it's heavily implied that Sirius is actually really clever. He's just inexperienced and so makes some emotional decisions sometimes.
    Especially around James, who was sort of his weakness. When James is involved in sny way, Sirius loses his cool. And that might make sense.
    See, to Sirius, James was freedom incarnate. A source "forget the rules, just be us!" A message that would have been important to him given his home life.
    And given Sirius' commitment to James, I always thought that Sirius was gay for James.. but never told him.
    It explains all his actions. Even the break down in front of Peter and his fervour about avenging James. (Both from Snape and Peter)
    It would then also explain his attachment to Harry, why he can't express himself well around others and how his impulsive nature rules out later.
    The man has been incarcerated so long that it's like he got warped into a bad future timeline. All he can think about is holding on to a past that isn't his anymore.
    In a weird twist of fate, he and Snape are more alike than either want to admit. They are both pining for a loved one they can't let go of.
    Snape had Lilly.. Sirius had James. The difference is that Sirus supported James when he chose Lilly. But the pain of losing him to Peter, a fellow member of his choosen family, it was too great.
    He broke a little that day, as trauma from his actual home came flooding back. His madness kept him alive after.. although he likely would have recovered in time.
    After all, Sirius is more adaptive than Snape when it comes to what James would've wanted. With Harry there to give him hope he might've moved on. But he never got the chance.

      God right?? To Sirius it was just a "prank" to mess with Snape, but if James hadn't intervened, Lupin could have killed him, or even bit him and end up turning him into a werewolf; either way, Lupin would carry that guilt with him for the rest of his life and hate himself even more than he already does. And I don't think Sirius ever considered that or even felt guilty about it to the very end of his life, despite knowing how horrible Lupin feels about being a werewolf, and being very well aware Lupin would likely never wish that upon anyone.
      And Lupin was too grateful for having friends who stand with him despite being a werewolf to ever confront them about anything and risk ruin their friendship.

    The reason why Harry is not as much like his Father as Sirius "expected" him to be is because he has forgotten that Harry had 2 parents. A father AND a mother. Harry didn't find things as fun the way Sirius did because Harry was more like his Mom in that regard. Harry was more down to earth and focused on protecting those he loved and cared for, not having fun playing with life and death. He was learning to leave the child behind so as to better protect those he loved and cared for. It's why he infiltrated the Ministry. He thought Sirius was there and in trouble, and Harry wanted to save the only "father figure" he felt he had. And it was as if Sirius didn't want to truly accept that his best friend is dead, so he treated Harry as if he were his friend, like he was with James. But Harry needed a father figure and being that Sirius is his God Father, Harry latched on to him, with the thought that Sirius could be that Father figure Harry missed out on having. What it ultimately comes down to is that Sirius was still living in the past; Harry was moving forward.

Also wouldn't it make more sense for him to go to grimmauld place after the events of what happened in the cave? He could have hid there as a cat but instead he went to the place Hermione got him. It makes more sense that Crookshanks was the Potters cat because Lilly mentioned a cat in her letter, also we know Mrs Figg (who is also a part of the order) breeds kneazeals and cats together which Crookshanks was part kneazeal. He knew about the defences because Kreacher would have told him (as Kreacher was used to test them) and Kreacher could easily have teleported Regulus or blast the Inferi away like Dobby did to Lucius in book 2. Also, Kreacher could have just teleported him away and got water from elsewhere,meaning they wouldn’t have even set off the Inferi in the first place. Not to mention the fact that he left a note very intentionally trying to get Voldemort to hunt him down. Who in their right mind does that? There's a really good answer to this. I have heard this a lot where people say Voldemort wouldn't have been able to torture out the Potters' location in the Fidelius charm, so what was the point to switch to wormtail? The point is, let's say Sirius is the Secret Keeper, and the Death Eaters guess that he is being the best friend. They show up with Voldemort to kill him and he doesn't give them up, and then they kill him. I'm sure, as secret keeper, the other OOTP members have been given the location, so they can go visit, but can't divulge the location. If he's killed, everyone that was told of the location would now become secret keeper. Instead, wormtail was the least expected, so they'd have to kill member after member before finally getting to wormtail. By that point, wormtail would only divulge it out of torture and it wouldn't work, so he's killed. Here's the best part, anyone that who knew the location at this point, would have been killed off BEFORE PETER WAS, so the secret remains safe.

      They knew there was a spy close to them for about a year. And I think it says more about how little he thinks of Peter: he couldn't fathom Peter having the audacity or skill to be the spy. And bear in mind, James must've suspected something, too. Or he wouldn't have agreed. Remus has a tendency to cut people off when he's feeling vulnerable, which we know he did, relying on James to support him because he was unemployable post-Hogwarts. I think James and Sirius read his distancing as suspicious, and Remus' reticence only exacerbated that. Voldemort's playbook was to recruit the disenfranchised and ostracised. That's Remus. And we know that it was a time of mistrust, that everyone was suspicious of everyone. Fandom likes to act like Remus/Sirius were the true bond of the Marauders for fanon shipping reasons, but James and Sirius were the true bond: the only two the other would be completely sure of. They probably eliminate Peter from suspicion because of competence and Remus' reticence post-Hogwarts. So, no evidence, just suspicions. It's explicitly stated that one of the most terrifying things about the First Wizarding War was the air of mistrust. So it wasn't just Sirius.
