Great video and couldn’t agree more. About a year ago, I tried every launch monitor below 5K. I found all of them fairly similar when it came to accuracy WHEN SET UP PROPERLY. So, my decision was made based upon what data it provides, how it displays that data, and how easy it was to set up the unit. I use a Mevo+ for my outdoor use since I have the room, and then a SkyTrack for indoor use in the winter. The Mevo+ data is much more robust and detailed, but for the winter months, I don’t really need to focus on all those numbers, so the SkyTrack is sufficient. I also own a PRGR that I use for my pre-round warmups to get fairly decent data for what it provides. It’s nice because it’s easy to set up, and gives me what I need for a pre-round warmup. Swing speed, ball speed, distance…very useful when you start a round on a cold morning and the ball isn’t flying too far. The ONE area that many people overlook is the ball!!!! People don’t want to spend top dollar for balls for their LM which last for months, but will spend that kind of money for their gamers that they lose after 10 shots…I don’t get it…and then they use the same ball over and over and over, thinking it will perform like new since it looks good on the outside. The number of people who are cracking balls is clear evidence that people are using balls way past their performance prime, but then they blame the launch monitor…you paid thousands for a LM to give you accurate data, that comes with the sunk cost of buying good balls to get good data.

Great video! One tip for anyone struggling with driver reads with a radar unit in a simulator setting. I really needed to get the flight distance from ball to the screen to be at least 10ft. I ended up getting a larger net to be comfortable, and now my Mevo+ is really accurate.

One followup with devices such as Mevo+...in the instructions, it emphasizes more the fact that there not be a gap, or drop in heigh between the monitor and the ball, but that you can have the monitor be slightly above or below the ball as long as you specify as much in the calibration setup menu. Have you found that having the monitor level with the ball no matter what produces the best results, even if there is a gap or change in height in between the ball and the Mevo+?

Hello Sean ,I m deciding to put a golf simulator in my garage, cost is always a challenge,I would like your opinion on a golf launch monitor,I like the Garmin r10 ,I don’t want to buy the Garmin and then later decided,I should have purchased something else.it’s going to be in the garage, but don’t have a lot of room,

For you think the GARMIN R10 is accurate for club speed of 125+mph, in the distance and in the ball speed ?

Good video BUT can everyone pleeease stop saying that light affects the performance of a radar based system! Radar systems as far as light is concerned are basically blind devices. They rely on analysing the change in frequency of the transmitted microwave (not light) signal. The more likely cause of poor indoor readings is electromagnetic interference (EMI) or large reflectors (large bits of metal/flat surfaces). Ironically, more lights e.g. fluorescent light can actually make things worse due to EMI….

I heard the sun affects radar based systems due to the gamma rays interfering with the sliced carrots on the farm

Mevo plus is a radar unit that now also uses the camera as well so better lighting is now recommended.

@@firstname2072 actually that’s not what was said at the PGA show. They summarized that the fusion tracking (which is their term for radar and camera integration), is being utilized for all aspects of the device - no matter what level of subscription you have. Some that don’t have the full features (like myself) have had a few more issues with the latest releases. Seems that the lighting has been one of the culprits.

@@dennismossner2696 there’s literally nothing in the old nor 2023 model manual about light until you activate the face impact and I use mine in the dark with just the screen as light sometimes so I dunno, works for me.

@@breakingeighty Yep, my understanding is also that the MLM 2 Pro is using the visual of the black dots on the Callaway RPT ball to calculate spin, whereas exclusively Doppler based systems pick up ball spin and spin axis characteristics better with the metal strips added inside the Titleist RCT.
The RCT ball seems to work the same as any other premium ball with MLM 2 Pro because it's not trying to use Doppler to pick up spin, so I don't believe there's an added benefit unless they add a new mode or setting in the future.

I just had the GC3 and it was not as accurate as I was hoping. I ended up selling it. If you want premium data you have to get the quad or trackman 4.
