finally a down to earth impression of the SA6 ultra.....no bias no excessive hype.....no insinuation of SA6 is garbage and the Ultra is the way to go. thank you. have always appreciated and respected your views. a true reviewer!!!
I've had my eyes on the SA6 due to Resolve's praises but was apprehensive of the Ultra because Zeos. However after seeing Resolve's tweet of approval yesterday I had to give Zeos my money. Looking very forward to these after hearing more about them here.
Also love how they made Zeos' signature red and blue so damn aesthetically tasteful.
The irony of Andrew praising a Zeos collab is not something I was expecting to ever see.
I don't see this as irony. Andrew has always been the guy to give something a fair shake, regardless of where it came from

Hi Andrew! Nice review as always.
Have you heard about Nan 7? Based on preliminary review on Head-fi and Taoboa, it seems it is quite similar to Susvara at around $800. I'd love to hear your thoughts/do a review on this one.
I like my OG SA6 and don't need any additional brightness to it.. SA6 is probably the least fatiguing IEM in my collection, that yet provides both great sound balance and resolution..
OMG THIS IS SO TEMPTING!! I just find it difficult to spend the hard earned money I've been saving for a pair of Focals on a pair of IEM's... Awesome review as always!

I like the design too. I'm hoping red is the right ear and blue the left or I'm going to have ongoing issues with putting them in the correct ear!
Having the replaceable tips is great. My DAP has a 4.4mm socket which sounds better to me than its 3.5mm headphone socket (using the same earbuds and uncompressed audio). However, my phone (LG v60 which has a decent quad Sabre ESS dac) is 3.5mm and handier to use sometimes compared to my DAP.
(According to some reviewers these are limited to 300 units. But if they sell well I'm sure Dunu would make more).

Find them personally to bemore detailed and wide than the Oracle. In terms of timbre it also wins mainly because the tuning on the Oracle mk2 prevents the driver setup it uses to shine properly imo. I'd consider the SA6 Ultra to be a budget Anole VX personally.

@@ramaidaugirdas hmm I'd say it'd minimum be an 8. I'd go for 8.5 since the VX still clearly sounds more smooth and detailed. Honestly though they're both close enough in performance that for the price I'd pick the SA6 Ultra.
Also do note that this comparison uses stock tips for both and mileage may vary depending on the tips you may use.

Was planning to save my money go get a more laidback IEMs with good detail retrieval for instrumentals, but kinda sad that these are only a limited run. I guess I'll go with Oracle that's currently on sale here for $440 🤷
oracle is tuned even better. you will like it for sure.

There is a solid question whether the Ultra is worth an upgrade for those who've owned the original, imo.
Provided that the drivers are the same, it should be possible for a simple EQ work to turn the original into Ultra (any comparison should be made with the exact same cable and tips, imo).

If you have the og, just EQ I think. Or if you love the SA6 enough and want a backup/standby, get the ultra.
I liked the review but as a brand new IEM , It needs some time to break in , so I'm looking forward to a further review and comparation with the Oracle 2 , Mangird Tea 2 , Clairvoyance, Oxygen......the list goes on sorry, I know I am asking too much Cheers Everyone.

Just ordered a pair. My first and last iem 😂😊. Tried the timeless, s12 pro, and blessing 2 and didn't quite like them so I returned them. Hopefully this is a good pair. Can't wait! 😊😊

Hi Andrew, I am looking for an upgrade from Dunu SA6 I am looking for a bit more bass and technical ability what would recommend. I had Thieaudio Monarch MKII but the difference was not substantial. Please help me recommend some.
Sony IER-Z1R is a very different type of iem, with an amazing bass and technicalities. Fit is problematic, so it would be better to try it before buying

Yes it does. Or, it's a minutely small step below. But it is still competition for those IEMs, in the same ballpark.

This is fair honestly, but I bought the gold z12 cause it was on sale, almost identical, and I liked the look better. But yeah collab with a dude who doesn’t do his own measurements, or feels a little ridiculous compared to a crin or oratory collab.

How does the bass boost toggle work? Is it doing something physically or electrically?
They don't tell you, so you'd have to do a teardown to find out. I'm guessing it turns on an extra driver that is bass focused

How they compare to the Mest mk2? Have the Mest planned as next IEM but I am tempted by the sa6 ultra now.
They have similar tuning philosophy. Mest Mk2 has very relaxed upper mids and is a little bit wonky, just a little, because of that. Very finicky with fit and tips too. For me, it was a pain to own the MEST MK2 because of fit, tip, and mandatory EQ in the midrange.
get the mest, don't look anywhere else,
Oh MEST is definitely next step up. The big enveloping sound is amazing

Just got the Variations..so I’m going to live happily with that for some time and save some more money for the next step.
Different tuning for different tastes. Variation is too sub-bass heavy for my taste.

Cables dont affect sound
They do, but only by change in material and the number of wires. Wires makes sound more full (till an extent) and material changes things like bass and treble extension.
I bought them
I would by this within a heartbeat if it was not for the blue and red looks of the shells. I am sure many will like the looks of the ULTRAs, however I find it hard to swallow. The originals or Black would be even better for me (e.g. use in an office space.)
You can get it both blue or red, if that helps.

Compare to the Harman target. That custom 'neutral' tuning you are using to compare with is not a real meaningful reference.
Resolve here - There's something very wrong with Harman IE2019, it's why most reviewers don't use it. And there are also technical reasons why it's not appropriate.

Even if you don't like the Harman target, that is still the best reference we have to get an idea what a transducer is supposed to sound like.
In other words, why people who watches your reviews are supposed to believe that your custom target is better in any meaningful sense?
@@alsamuef So for starters, I don't have a custom target at the moment. What I showed you in this video was a comparison with a different IEM (the Thieaudio Oracle as indicated). But if you're looking for more technical reasons why IE2019 has issues, check out Jude's presentations on this topic. Essentially there are issues with bass level that are quite possibly the result of acoustic impedance of the coupler. The point being, we can expect to get a meaningfully different result on the 5128 when compared to 711. There are also other technical considerations, but that's a topic more for future live streams rather than here.

But that’s simply not a good reason to arbitrarily replace it with something else or nothing. Since the alternative that you propose has zero backing to consider it “better”. Here you are comparing with another IEM that is not a real reference and lacks a reference. What’s the meaning of the plots then? Hard to tell without a real reference. Thousands of people are watching your reviews to possibly make purchase decisions. But based on what exactly?
You have a GRAS 43AG whose only meaningful research to make it useful for IEMs to some extent is the Harman target curve. Why not use it?.
@@alsamuef I mean no, you could use DF if you wanted to, or other targets. Harman is just the best publicly available preference research on this topic. And ordinarily I'd agree that it's the right thing to use, but in practice more of us would rather use IEF or something else. There's more research to be done here of course but it is actually provable. If you disagree with me here, that's fine, just be sure to adjust your sentiment once new research gets developed on the 5128.
If Dunu is reading this, most of us don't like Zeos. Get Resolve or DMS or someone who's more professional to collab with. I'd be embarrassed to wear a Z product. He's the insane uncle of the audiophile community.

Why are you going to that extreme? If you don't like his videos, just don't watch them, but I don't see how he can be a polarizing guy. He is not damaging anyone or dividing the community. He is a very positive guy in general terms.
I understand what you mean by professional, to be more systematic an organized, an so on... But he is, first of all, an entertainment professional.
Again, you might not like him, but he has shown that he is consistent in uploading videos that are both informative and entertaining.
If you want a more classic review style, you have tons of them on TH-cam. He offers a different approach to the audiophile community.
This is an incredibly disrespectful comment, this is why people genuinely dislike this community. This polarizing dynamic is the reason we do not grow, and it's also the reason people don't engage. People are afraid to get dog piled because of their preference.
