"Birthdays are like regrets... they just keep coming. Each one a new scar that slows you down and drags you... closer to your grave." HAPPY 20th BIRTHDAY, MAX PAYNE! Thanks for making my childhood awesome!
There was something disturbingly familiar about the note on the bar desk. The handwriting was all pretty curves. "You're in Brazil, Max." The confusion flickered through the depths of my addled mind like footage from a faulty camera. My trademark leather jacket was gone, in its place was now an unusually hideous Hawaiian shirt. Instead of the familiar New York cold chilling me to the bone, I felt the high South-American sun baking down on my freshly-shaved scalp. I was in Brazil. Funny as Hell, it was the most horrible thing I could think of.
They were all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark to everything that had led to this point. I released my finger from the trigger. And then it was over.
The nightmare was always the same. Violent shapes moving in darkness, old and ugly. The shadows rushed me. Faces hungry for revenge. I had never had a chance. The pistol was a frozen lump in my hand, piercing the skin, gnawing me to the bone. They knew my weak spots and closed in for the kill. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark on everything that had led to this point. They were all dead. I released my finger from the trigger, and it was over. They turned to steam. The floor turned into a green vortex of green blood. The flesh of fallen angels... I fell. Slowly the green nightmare faded, leaving dark stains on my soul that would never come off. I woke up in a bad dream. And the killer was smiling.
max payne deserves a ground up remake, can you imagine those lines with someone like Mathew McConoughey reading it... also when they made the film i was dissapointed that mark wahlberg was playing max... matt damon was built for the role...
I remember I was around 11 years old and my mum had rented this for me on a whim from the video store. She handed it to me in the car when she picked me up from school. "This looks good", she said. It wasn't good mother, it was absolutely phenomenal.
"They were all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark on everything that had led to this point. I released my finger from the trigger, and it was over." - Max Payne

Sad to see this masterpiece being forgotten, I know today's kids mostly love new visuals like gta 5 or other modern titles. But the games from 2000's had amazing storylines like you could feel urself as the game's protagonist
Back then it wasn't even the story. The story was appreciated later. But upon release we all enjoyed Max's jacket as he moved and all the shells on the ground after shooting, and all the the bullet holes in the walls...
I was in College that time... had no friends... no GF Used to visit a game cafe near my college to kill my lonely life pain... ironically ... they had a game called Max Payne I can never forget that memory when it was raining heavily outside, my colleagues enjoyed rains with their love partners while I was soaked deep into the trance of slow motion gunshots and bullet times Dam this game signifies my life back then... but yeah... time has moved on but things remain the same..... (plz read this in Max's voice!)
"The nostalgia hit me in the face like a .45 launched out of the barrel of a gun. Old men spinning tails of happier times as the next generation went on with their lives in ignorance. four minutes of pleasure like a quick shot of Valkier to the veins before being ripped back to reality, my own personal hell."
0:00 - introduction to a depressed character - it seems mild and temporary enough 0:32 - we start to understand and sympathize with that character 0:55 - a hope that this character forgets about all their trouble and starts a new life 1:00 - that hope slowly fades, the character is too weak to let it go 1:06 - we see their depression from a new, worse perspective - it's actually not temporary, but more permament 1:30 - they struggle with inner self, looking for a reason to keep on going - tension arises 2:18 - something came up to their mind - a reason to live we, as an outsider, don't know yet - a wild hope gets sparked within us 2:36 - the reason becomes clear - it's petty revenge; we feel both satisfaction and disappointment from the character's choice 3:07 - we realize that while the character is likeable, we want to have as little in common with them as possible - we emotionally detach ourselves from them and desperately look for their redeeming qualities - even if it's only being _slightly_ better or being hurt earlier than those they have a vendetta against
How do you get it? I found this very depressing music, but could not interpret more than that, just know that when I hear it I see the whole game going through my head, the tense atmosphere that lived in it, that sense of always expect something insane or macabre will occur .
it kinda depends who´s asking: a friend or a junk squad plant but don´t answer, it´s what you are calling: a rhetorical question. Lupino ain´t here but he says bye!
Max Payne has to be one of my favorite games of all time. Not only because of gameplay but the beauty of storytelling. It’s a simple revenge story but it’s also about exposing corruption and behind the scene violence. What one man can do when they have nothing to lose, to find light and get to the truth. How far you can go when no one else is looking. A true masterpiece.
"Something ugly had been tattooed on the wall, a map of things to come. It was a poison syringe, a magic tag full of diabolical meanings." This theme really sets the tone for the game.
Max Payne and Max Payne 2 were Great games, Max Payne 3 was shit, the fact that it got rid of the New York theme and went to dirty Brazil pretty much ruined the game, the story wasn't good either.
I agree with your opinions about Max Payne and Max Payne 2, but a lot of people doesn't like Max Payne 3? why? Good Graphics. Good Story, Nice Gameplay, Typical Max Payne words, but offcourse, people are right saying that it's not good as Max Payne 1 & 2, There will never be created games like those.
Story Oyun It wasn't good because of the fact that the game is in Brazil, it was too sunny, it wasn't dark and emotional, Brazil is a slum country and Max Payne doesn't fit in a place like that, Max Payne 3 should've been in Chicago where its dark and neo-noir, MP3 had GREAT graphics but damn the whole concept of it being in Brazil was crap. Remember those flashbacks of Max being in a cemetary? that whole mission was better than most missions in the game itself.

Im listening at the moment, sitting inside of my car watching the burger restaurant from a parking lot on this gloomy evening, thinking if im living the life I hoped I will when I was 12years old playing this game...
Rest in peace, mr. McCaffrey. It will be hard to hear another voice for Max, yours was truly something else. Thank you for all the great memories.
"There was no glory in this. I hadn't asked for this crap. Trouble had come to me, in big dark swarms. The good and the just, they were like gold dust in this city. I had no illusions. I was not one of them. I was no hero. Just me and the gun, and the crook. My options had decreased to a singular course." - Max Payne

Such a sad day but i’m glad to see we are here together honoring him. What a legend 😔
Max Payne was not killed by mobsters and gangs. No... It was cancer that took him
"Birthdays are like regrets... they just keep coming. Each one a new scar that slows you down and drags you... closer to your grave." HAPPY 20th BIRTHDAY, MAX PAYNE! Thanks for making my childhood awesome!
There was something disturbingly familiar about the note on the bar desk. The handwriting was all pretty curves.
"You're in Brazil, Max."
The confusion flickered through the depths of my addled mind like footage from a faulty camera.

Clever comment. Nice one.

Max Payne is the greatest and most emotional franchise in gaming history. Its a masterpiece. Every PC owner has this game.
Indeed and the 3.. what a conclusion.. We want more
This is originally a PC game, it first came out on the PC and then years later on the consoles, Back in 2001 and 2002 this game was really hot.
DeathSlade Stroke Heavy Rain? The Walking Dead games by Telltale?
But that is just your opinion.
no but you claiming this game is the best game ever, sound like you saying this as a fact.
I read that in Max's voice!
max payne deserves a ground up remake, can you imagine those lines with someone like Mathew McConoughey reading it...
also when they made the film i was dissapointed that mark wahlberg was playing max... matt damon was built for the role...
JD pitmint Mark Wahlberg and Matt Damon are the same person though.
JD pitmint I think the voice actor in the game was perfect
LFiers no they aren't
I hope you in better world, buddy.
Rest In Peace, Max Payne.
I remember I was around 11 years old and my mum had rented this for me on a whim from the video store. She handed it to me in the car when she picked me up from school.
"This looks good", she said.
It wasn't good mother, it was absolutely phenomenal.

Death is inevitable. Our fear of it makes us play safe, blocks out emotion. It's a losing game, without passion you are already dead.
(Max Payne)
Sad to see this masterpiece being forgotten, I know today's kids mostly love new visuals like gta 5 or other modern titles. But the games from 2000's had amazing storylines like you could feel urself as the game's protagonist
Back then it wasn't even the story. The story was appreciated later. But upon release we all enjoyed Max's jacket as he moved and all the shells on the ground after shooting, and all the the bullet holes in the walls...
من جد شي يقهر

Well with a remake being announced maybe people will finally be able the experience Max Payne at it's glory.

R.I.P James McCaffrey, thank you for making such an impression and fond memories for many of us with your performance as Max Payne. Absolute legend.
"The nostalgia hit me in the face like a .45 launched out of the barrel of a gun. Old men spinning tails of happier times as the next generation went on with their lives in ignorance. four minutes of pleasure like a quick shot of Valkier to the veins before being ripped back to reality, my own personal hell."
nice!
goddamn❤️
0:00 - introduction to a depressed character - it seems mild and temporary enough
0:32 - we start to understand and sympathize with that character
0:55 - a hope that this character forgets about all their trouble and starts a new life
1:00 - that hope slowly fades, the character is too weak to let it go
1:06 - we see their depression from a new, worse perspective - it's actually not temporary, but more permament
1:30 - they struggle with inner self, looking for a reason to keep on going - tension arises
2:18 - something came up to their mind - a reason to live we, as an outsider, don't know yet - a wild hope gets sparked within us
2:36 - the reason becomes clear - it's petty revenge; we feel both satisfaction and disappointment from the character's choice
3:07 - we realize that while the character is likeable, we want to have as little in common with them as possible - we emotionally detach ourselves from them and desperately look for their redeeming qualities - even if it's only being _slightly_ better or being hurt earlier than those they have a vendetta against
Dude, you just explained the brilliancy of this game perfectly :D
How do you get it? I found this very depressing music, but could not interpret more than that, just know that when I hear it I see the whole game going through my head, the tense atmosphere that lived in it, that sense of always expect something insane or macabre will occur .
Sounds like you just describe most anti-hero's and love your big boss picture by the way

I like to watch cartoons. Cartoon violence is a fascinating thing. Captain baseball bat boy is my favorite.

The Max Payne franchise is Legendary.
You got that right bro! Just a Legend! Masterpiece!
