Ground breaking video game. The graphics at the time were top knotch, the sound track drew us deeper into the maddness, and bullet time was fun. I can remember running and jumping in between three baddies and with two mac-11s, eliminating the three cronnies in spectacular fashion.

Erm... Max Payne 1 was a Remedy game published by 3DRealms (when it was still functioning), not Rockstar. Rockstar took over and published Max Payne 2.
Man, this is even sadder than the original OST, and it's beautiful. I was still a teenager when I first played Max Payne 3. Back then, I couldn't fully appreciate Max's story, but now, being closer to 30 and having played all the games, Max's story just hit even harder. I never thought I would relate to him or face similar problems like his, minus getting shot at.
@EpicPianoArrangements definitely not as bad as what happened to max losing hes wife and kids but depression and trying to feel something from vices is just a vicious cycle

"The past is a gaping hole. You try to run from it, but the more you run, the deeper, more terrible it grows behind you, its edges yawning at your heels. Your only chance is to turn around and face it. But it's like looking down into the grave of your love, or kissing the mouth of a gun, a bullet trembling in its dark nest, ready to blow your head off. When the darkness fell, New York City became something else, any old Sinatra song notwithstanding. Bad things happened in the night, on the streets of that other city. Noir York City." Happy birthday, Max Payne.
This was the first piece I learned when I started playing piano in 2017. I didn't even know how to read sheet and I was only able to play until 02:43 then gave up. It is time I finish this piece after 8 years lol. Thanks for creating this beautiful arrangement ❤
I hope you do finish it. I've often heard people say they wanted to learn the piano just to play this piece, and it's such a thematic theme that works and sounds so great on the piano. Keep up the hard work.
I didn't realise I was still making my way into peoples recommendations... but I'm glad you found something you like. I agree with your comments about TikTok as well... can't stand it.
If someone had told me six months ago this is where my life would be headed, I'd have ordered a double of what they were drinking, drunk it, then blown my head off.
I am sitting here desperately awaiting the Max Payne remaster. Can't believe it's been 22 years since that game came out. That was possibly the single best game I ever played. It's only just been overtaken by RDR 2; again because so much attention was given to how the music in RDR 2 affects the gameplay - much like the Max Payne theme did.
Honestly? A 2... it took me maybe 20 minutes to learn the notes and memorise, and recorded it in the first take. My 14 minute Zelda Medley took me a solid week of practice (and would be much closer to a 9 or almost 10) and I will admit that I did 2 recordings of the whole thing and spliced it together (I had 2 cameras recording 2 angles, changed them and did another recording with another 2 angles and edited the best bits of performance). My Guardians of the Galaxy theme was also maybe a 7 or 8... took me several days of solid practice for that once.
No other video game theme made me cry. Great art. Max Payne series is one of the greatest game series of all time and Max Payne is one of the goats in video game history along the likes of Mario and doomguy
I'll admit, it didn't make me cry - but what about Zelda Ocarina of Time. That was one excellent video game that was very well put together and had a lot of emotional tension.
Actually, sadly enough - this is the one I put the least amount of effort into. I spent a day arranging my 14 minute Zelda Medley, and another doing the 'One Final effort' from Halo 3. This one I knocked out in less than an hour. I'm glad you like it though.

For me, it was my teenage years. One of the (if not THE) greatest games of all time. It really delved into the deep Noir New York environment - Mobsters, Valkyr drugs and back-stabbing colleagues. Truly brilliant. Glad you like it.
I know - but you gotta admit, the newer graphics help make the video games feel like interactive movies and can draw you in deeper. There was something special though with Max Payne that doesn't seem to have been attained by almost any other video game since.
Just recently started playing the max payne trilogy (currently playing the third one). My god it was such a ride. This theme does take me back to those early years when i enjoyed a lot of games for their soundtracks
Every now and then I still play all 3 games. I'll admit, 2 never really captured my attention as much and I don't have that sense of nostalgia I did for games 1 & 3, but when it released in 2003 - My god - I played the hell out of it. I also did a piano version of 'Late goodbye' from Max Payne 2 if you want to check it out.
Thank you very much for your very kind comment. I think most of the touching soul touching credit has to go to the original music - but because the theme is so good, it was easy enough to make such a great arrangement for the piano.
thanks a lot sir, this song was the reason I decided in the early 2000s I would learn to play piano one day and now 20 years later I actually can play it !
As a young man, this game had a major part in what became a love for dark, ruthless and gritty crime drama. The stories that remove that safety blanket and you realize that there have been monsters among us always. This song is definitely the soundtrack to a fear realized in a young age. Thank you.
That's quite deep. I think that's why this game and the soundtrack was so successful. They haven't really seemed to make a game like this since - I mean in terms of the depths of depravity in portraying the criminal world Max gets sucked into.

RIP James McCaffery, voice of a lonely childhood.
Glad you found it incredible... such a shame about James McCaffrey - he was still quite young. 😞
"Gun fire over Hoboken. It felt strange to be at the center of it again, the target that is. Like an old comedian hearing one last round of applause." I must say sir this is such a beautiful piece and you played it so well, Thank you for paying such great tribute to a wonderful franchise
If you've played Max Payne 2 as well - I did do an arrangement of 'Late Goodbye' as well. Glad you like my performance. 🙂
I keep coming to max payne music because it's the first game i played when i was a kid, it had a huge impact on me it hit me on so many levels, now when i listen to this i remember how carefree i was back then. Great piece of art btw!
God knows how many times I played this game, because the story was awesome... and being in 2001 and getting to play a game with Bullet time??? Greatest thing ever.
Ground breaking video game. The graphics at the time were top knotch, the sound track drew us deeper into the maddness, and bullet time was fun. I can remember running and jumping in between three baddies and with two mac-11s, eliminating the three cronnies in spectacular fashion.
You picked up drinking too ?
i love the story of the game
As i was kid my mother died and my father and i played this game together. We could really feel the pain of max as he lost his family. It was really personal.
Now i got so many great memories.
@@EpicPianoArrangements This is an outstanding game with an ingenious main theme, and in your performance this music evokes the most stylish feeling of nastalgia! If in my diligence of playing music there were a counter of the composition's playbacks, it would have broken on Max Payne 10 years ago)). Thank you for the flawless and sincere execution! And now I know that I can learn to play it myself)) it remains to find the notes.
I'm Japanese. Amazing! Splendid! Max Payne is favorite music by the game of the memory♪ I was impressed to be completely reappeared! Thank you so much!!

After 8 years still damn good and one of my favorite tracks on the piano.
“There it was, the soundtrack of my life.”
Still can't believe it gets more views than pretty much every other video of mine... combined.
Well done sir! I finally found an actual human man who can play this historic piece perfectly! Max Payne 1 will always remain in my top 10!
Thank you. I aim to please. I'm surprised no one else can play it as well - it's not really that hard.
@@EpicPianoArrangements You very welcome
" the setting had changed but the rest was all too familiar " max payne. I had to come back to subscribe 👏
Thanks - hope you find my other videos equally as good as this one.
RIP James McCaffrey...
memories of gunfire , gore and bullet cams anyone ?
I still believe to this day, this was the best game of all time. The story was excellent, the graphics were fantastic for their time, and the bullet cam was AWESOME!!!
Epic Piano Arrangements what can I say...... It's a rockstar game
Erm... Max Payne 1 was a Remedy game published by 3DRealms (when it was still functioning), not Rockstar. Rockstar took over and published Max Payne 2.
For some reason I was trying to remedy games but my brain was saying Rockstar
Maybe it's cuz I've been playing Max Payne 3 a lot
No problem... I realised after I posted that's what you meant.
Very well done indeed. Its amazing how music can just transport us to moments in time. Its a blessing and a curse as Max would say.
Very, very true. It can take us back to our childhood in seconds...
I'm just crying man. It's so deep, not just a cover
Thank you. It's going to be interesting to see if they revamp the theme song for the remaster in a couple years. I'm curious.

@@sleepyblockanimations1482 Damn - that does sound awesome.
Given how tragic the game is, I hope not too much from the game has actually happened to you.
@EpicPianoArrangements definitely not as bad as what happened to max losing hes wife and kids but depression and trying to feel something from vices is just a vicious cycle
"Your past is like a piece of broken mirror." A perfect symphony played perfectly. This gives me some heavy nostalgia.
I know - it's a bit of a pain to get the game running on newer systems, but damn I still like playing it.
Rip James mcCaffrey, nosso eterno Max Payne 🙏🙏
Amazing performance, this song is so dramatic and yet so beautiful at the same time, love it.
It really fitted with the noir style gameplay and the storyline. This was a fantastic theme.
This is the simply the best performance of this composition, you can find on the internet!
I'm hoping if you check out my other videos, you'll find them to be the best performances of said composition as well.
@@EpicPianoArrangements Ahahaha! I will check them for sure!
Its been years since you posted this video but here I am. All these years later. Thank you for recording this. It means something whether I am late or early.

"And so it began, the chorus that would tug on not only my pain but the threads that lead me to the point of no turning back, it would play in my head constantly reminding me that I'm a heartbroken detective whose in a videogame"

Brings back my childhood. This game was epic at so many levels. The music was Inspirational. Your piece was no less!
Thank you very much... glad my arrangement was as epic as the original. I'm in agony wondering how the remaster of the Max Payne games are going to go.
"Let me take you back 3 years ago....back when the pain started"

@Bart Iudaea when you shoot the alarm during the bank robbery, or the elevator speaker in the clowns' laundry place...
Truly awesome.
Great soundtrack to a great game, and seeing this video and hearing the theme played on the piano just blew me away. Bravo
Thank you very much... it was an intense and brilliant game.
Amazing skill and video for TH-cam. Thanks for this! I know Max Payne is thinking of you! From Ireland 🇮🇪
Thank you very much... If you think this is Amazing, I do a 14 minute Zelda: Ocarina of Time Medley that might just blow your mind.
Noir York City."
Happy birthday, Max Payne.
I love it when talented people come across in the recommendations, and not some kind of nonsense like tik tok
Or try to not let that happen?
"There it was, the soundtrack to my life."
"And for a few seconds, came harmony..."
*"Finally."*
I listen to this music during 22 years. This is beautiful melody! My favourite!
You right! But remaster must be launched with Sam Lake participation. He is real Max Payne !
you combined all the sections into one, beautiful.
That's what I do. Glad you like it.
On a scale from 1 to 10, how difficult is it to play for such an experienced player such as your self?@@EpicPianoArrangements
Honestly? A 2... it took me maybe 20 minutes to learn the notes and memorise, and recorded it in the first take.
*There it was . . . the soundtrack to my life, and, for a few seconds . . . came harmony, finally.*
my favourite pc game have a nice theme song cover!! good job man!
Thanks for that... it does bring back many memories of bullet-time, slow motions and epic gun fights from 2001. :)
The best Max Payne theme playing I have ever heard. It's amazing! ✨
Thank you. :)
Only some of us can relate how this thing is attached to our entire existence. Amazing!
It's interesting how while reading all the comments, my mind automatically narrates it in Max Payne's voice
One of my favourite games. You're nice musician.
Thank you very much. :)
wow this tone really touches my heart
In the land of piano, epic piano arrangements is king.

Brings nostalgia..... Max Payne was the only game that I truly loved and felt everything it had to say.
Lovely and thanks for the sheet music

never gets old right boys i have played it days ago you did a unbelievable amount of work you did very good keep up the good work also am subing lol
Actually, sadly enough - this is the one I put the least amount of effort into. I spent a day arranging my 14 minute Zelda Medley, and another doing the 'One Final effort' from Halo 3. This one I knocked out in less than an hour. I'm glad you like it though.

Макс Пейн это не просто игра, это история, это характер, потрясающий сюжет. И все это подчеркивает, выражает великолепная музыка.

This soundtrack’s melancholic, unspoken beauty makes me want to play the Max Payne games- I’ll give it a chance soon, much obliged. And thank you for covering such a beautiful harmonic OST of a game theme. ❤️
You're welcome - I'm glad you like my arrangement. There was something deeply memorable about that first game, wasn't there?

Sadly enough, I doubt there will be a Max Payne 4, especially with the death of James McCaffrey.
I got goosebumps just by watching this. I can't imagine how you felt while playing this. 👍👍
If you think this is good, you should check out my 14 minute Zelda arrangement - I actually worked hard to practice the Zelda. This one was a piece of cake compared.

I discovered this video exactly one year ago, 27.02.2020. It was a random recommendation from TH-cam that i decided to check and instantly fell in love with it. I can't count how many times i listened to this since then. Thank you.
Glad you still enjoy it. It's a nice piece, but to be honest - I put so little effort into this video. I didn't even practice, I just did it in one shot and flung it on the internet. Most of the other arrangements I did barely get any views, and some of them I SLAVED over them.
@@EpicPianoArrangements I did check your other videos too. You got a lot of stuff that should get way more views. But the name "Max Payne" has its own weight i guess.
True, but you'd think Zelda or Skyrim would have the same weight as well. Zelda just celebrated its 35th Anniversary a week ago.
@@EpicPianoArrangements Internet is a strange place.

@@EpicPianoArrangements oh dude I play it with my eyes closed now and way better without my cat trying to play rythme on my Darth Vader night light... Thanks brother keep making great music
That B Natural that comes around after the first few notes just has so much impact to it. I already love minor keys, but this is another level of satisfying. Great work!
I know, its so dramatic - especially with the lower octave in the LH reinforcing it.
@@EpicPianoArrangements This whole piece just has this overwhelming grief. It sort of puts me in Max's shoes, makes me sort of consumed with rage and sadness and vengefulness. Like a downward spiral of madness as Max leaves no enemy without a smoldering hot bullet between their eyes, all to avenge his wife and baby girl. God I love minor keys. #bassclefbro
increible!!! es demasiado bueno este theme.

This is AMAZING man. I just got done playing through the trilogy. Idk why i kept passing these games up in the Arcade store on xbox cause i thoroughly enjoyed it.
If you like this and have played the trilogy - I also arranged the song 'Late Goodbye' for the piano.
This was beautiful. I hate you for making me feel this way..
This is beautiful, great piano rendition
Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it.
I always come back to this video sometimes and i think your the only person who record themselves doing it on a real piano because i can't find other videos
Thanks for the compliment. The acoustic piano just has more soul than an electric piano - it just seems right to play it on the best instrument. 🙂 🎹
Just finished Max Payne 3 now, and finished 1 & 2 for like 4 years ago, this is bring me back to the old days
thanks alot !
Glad you liked it. This was a nostalgic game. I would love a remaster with todays graphics. Imagine the slow motion explosions.
Incredible, well done buddy.
Thank you very much - glad you liked it. If you think this is impressive, I had a 14 minute Medley if you like Zelda - Ocarina of time that's worth checking out.
The song of my childhood! Thank you so much for the upload.
For me, it was my teenage years. One of the (if not THE) greatest games of all time. It really delved into the deep Noir New York environment - Mobsters, Valkyr drugs and back-stabbing colleagues.
Truly brilliant. Glad you like it.
The golden age of the games in my opinion: 1990s-early 2000s
This game was made in 2001, with GTA3 but i love it!
I know - but you gotta admit, the newer graphics help make the video games feel like interactive movies and can draw you in deeper. There was something special though with Max Payne that doesn't seem to have been attained by almost any other video game since.
@@EpicPianoArrangements Yeah, I want max payne1 and gtaSA remastered like Mafia1
YES... I so want that as well. You'd think for the 20th Anniversary, they would do it and introduce the game to whole new generation.
Max is indeed in pain! Powerful music.
To this day I have listened to the theme so much, I can play it in my head note for note like a radio. It was truly epic.
I know its not a difficult session but you touched my soul. Oh... and you have a brand new subscriber. Thank you mate!
Thank you very much for your very kind comment. I think most of the touching soul touching credit has to go to the original music - but because the theme is so good, it was easy enough to make such a great arrangement for the piano.

This makes me feel more than it has any right too...
It was a brilliant game...dark, gritty, mobsters - it had the lot.
...and cool explosions combined with slow-motion bullets.
Epic Piano Arrangements Agreed. Here’s to hoping one game may some day top it. It’ll always deserve its place in video game history for many different reasons.

All we need is James mccafery’s commentary in the background stating something obvious in the darkest sarcastic manner.
His voice is seriously underrated... I wonder if he ever did any other video game work.
Epic Piano Arrangements , I think he did some understated 90’s tv drama series which is what landed him the role. Other than that, I was kinda pissed he wasn’t max payne in the actual movie.
@@ruthlessgaming4682 I'll admit, I don't think Mark Wahlberg did too bad a job of portraying the character Max Payne - he is a good action actor and he did have that gravelly New York voice. THE PROBLEM was that the entire script and storyline was a pile of garbage... and HOW they fucked it up despite the game having a BRILLIANT plot? I don't know.

It’s how they handled valkyer, and they didn’t add any third person commentary from max, in his head. Which was the issue.
