Pockets Fans! Jack here - the VSauce-looking dude on keyboards. Just wanted to write a quick hello and relay some thoughts on gratitude, as listening to this song puts me in a mood. Playing with this crew, especially this recording session in particular, represented a high point of gratitude in my life. Getting to play behind Madison was really special. She is one of the most heartfelt, expressive, and lyrical vocalists I've ever worked with. Can we get some love for Madison in the comments below? And to keep going with the gratitude theme -- I'm moving in the coming months, and I started feeling sad about leaving my home. I've had 8 years of memories there: hangs with friends, meals with my girlfriend and now wife, quiet moments on the porch looking over the cow fields (I live in a house that borders 52 acres of open farm land) -- this house has come to be my favorite place on Earth. And I've been so sad to be leaving. OK -- that's when I saw a quote about gratitude that really resonated. I don't remember who said it, but it completely changed the way I've been thinking about moving. The quote was something like this: instead of dwelling on a moment of loss, be overjoyed that you got to have those experiences in the first place. Reading that back, it's not eloquent at all!! HA! But I've found that it's a great way to reframe a loss in my mind. Suddenly, I've started cherishing all those wonderful memories. I've started replaying them in my mind -- just for fun! HOW LUCKY AM I, that I got to experience all that wonder and joy?! SO FUCKING LUCKY. So I'll turn the moment around -- where are YOU this morning? What do you have to say goodbye to in the coming months? Are you feeling sad, or are you feeling lucky? Or maybe a little bit of both? Just thought I'd pass that thought along. This song makes me feel sad, but also grateful for all those wonderful experiences I've had. I hope you can feel the same!

I need to preface this with first saying how much I love everything Scary Pockets. I miss the old style of video because it was able to capture the chemistry within the band. The roaming single shot creates a singularity and we now miss out on the amazing interaction between bandmates during a song. Part of the magic of every song is what is created collectively within a take.

One of my favorite things about Scary Pockets is how, if the song has lame boring chord changes, they substitute them but if the song has a really solid chord structure, they don't fuck with the changes. I noticed this on Crash and a couple other tunes, too. This song is a good example of how creative and downright poetic you can get with diatonic chords. All it takes is a good structure with creative harmonic rhythms.

Noone is there to shine and stand out through solo or licks.
All of the instruments are serving one purpose and purpose only: the music.
It's a funk thing, playing stripped back parts so everyone can be heard is part of the sound of funk bands, especially if you have a lot of musical elements (e.g. a lot of musicians playing at once).

She has a good voice. Learning how to form tones from inside the body rather than using the face is a big challenge for singers with no early guidance. It turns into a habit. Her vocal qualities are various and she could go a long way if she had a tough teacher & a willingness to cry a lot for a few months at first to correct those habits.
