Well done folks! IMO, Telluride is the choice BUT in the states, the Palisade Calligraphy is a bargain compared to the top end Telluride SX Prestige X-Pro AWD. That model tops at $56,000 US. And, because of the shortage and demand, Kia dealers have no shame in adding another 5-10K for a “market adjustment” which moves it into Lexus RX, Acura MDX and other luxury brands territory. There are many choices at that price range so you can choose, or keep driving what you have until the market comes back to some normalcy. Cheers.
Excellent analysis and review as usual! Thank you! I was extremely interested in the Palisade and shopped it at length in 2022. I also shopped the Highlander at the same time. I found the Palisade to be comfortable, powerful, features galore, and very roomy. I really like it. My wife didn't like the looks on the outside, but I do. However, when it came to negotiations, Hyundai in our area of Florida were tacking on a 20% (really) non-negotiable premium, and severely underpaying for trafe-ins. The dealership itself was unimpressive, and the genesis vehicles were on one side, and Hyundai on the other. Our salesperson would constantly step away to talk to perspective Genesis clients. The maintenance facilities were equally unimpressive, understanding that their reliability was a big question mark. On the other hand, Toyota has a beautiful facility and separate maintenance facility (plus I was trading in a 2021 Venza I had purchased from them), BUT they had added a blatant "Market Adjustment " of $4,995 to every Highlander. So that was not acceptable either. I ended up with a 2022 Lexus RX 450hl (hybrid) and had an incredible dealership experience, second to none (with NO add ons). The car is powerful, quiet, smooth and very comfortable. But, it also has downsides having an absolutely useless 3rd row and it's rounded shape takes away from the feeling of spaciousness and cargo space. Fortunately, it's just my wife and I, so the 3rd row is always down and we use it for extended trunk space. Unfortunately, if we have to drive 3 or more extra people, it's almost impossible and embarrassing. So, always a tradeoff. I do agree that the lack of power folding mirrors on the Palisade is a huge miss and the lack of wireless Android and Apple on the big screen is mystifying considering how up to date Hyundai's technology is!
Thanks for your take on the experience with Hyundai. I also like their vehicles but I'm not sold on the long term reliability and customer support. I've been driving Mazdas for years and while the cars are excellent the dealership experience is lacklustre. Hope you enjoy your Lexus.

Zack is getting me all fired up about the Kia/ Hyundai crucial omission with the lack of wireless connectivity. Hyundai said it was coming back in 2019; this is unacceptable in the current model year.

Even on a 4 lane highway, I'm always amazed at how how little gas that unit uses. I like the Palisade, like the Telluride more, love the hybrid Highlander(driven them at work). Not a bad choice in those 3 though.

Hi Andrea, no wonder Zack looked a bit scared, 3.8 L capacity under the hood is nothing to be sniffed at. Well appointed car specification and seems to do the job it's intended for. A massive car, and the engine moves the bulk around quite well.
So correct me if I'm wrong, but the Hyundai Palisade does not have power folding mirrors since they made them auto-dimming in the new refresh. The Telluride does not have auto-dimming mirrors but has power folding ones. I'm assuming they both made choices on what to add while meeting a certain pricepoint so I can't blame them for not adding power folding. I personally think auto-dimming mirrors are more useful and luxury-like, since you can always fold the mirrors manually. I think Hyundai made the right choices in making the Palisade closer to luxury. The nicer quilted massage seats with thigh extension, ventilated seats and heated 3rd row with power folding. I think they also added acoustic glass all over, more aluminium finished buttons on the Calligraphy etc. The Palisade is now the better car as of this refresh. It's always nice to see them competing even against each other, considering both are class leaders.
YES!! The chromatic dimming side mirrors are AWESOME and I don't understand why more cars don't use them! I had them with my Viracruz and loved it. As stated, whats the BFD in folding in the mirrors manually?? I do that all the time with my Highlander...EASY! The car is expensive enough plus its just one more mechanical system to fail down the road.
To each their own… but I do not want to pay extra for a 3rd row seat, power side view mirrors, wireless, heated rear or cooled seats (or powered rear controls), air suspension, perfume accent systems or even a powered lift gate. Whether it be the price, the extra weight or the reliability of these extras (two people I know opened their lift gates in the Winter and … well Winter won and Hyundai made some serious money for the repairs - maybe these people are idiots but … it happens)… I just want a very well built luxuriously appointments for the front passengers (the owners/the parents) with great reliable build quality. 5-10 years ago we didn’t need all this stuff, so why should every car have them. Though… some should for those other (majority?) people who do. That’s my rant. That said… I’m finally a convert! I now prefer the Palisade over the Telluride. I think that KIA’s latest external refresh did not evolve it’s unique look, the Hyundai made this latest Palisade look so much more regal. Or as Andrea said “stately”. Well done Hyundai! Thanks for another great review.
Can you remove the "For your consideration" part of the competition section? That always feels repetitive to me 😋 As for this car, totally agree that no wireless AA or CarPlay is a deal breaker in a car that's trying to look so futuristic but isn't delivering. Currently that's my biggest gripe with Tesla
Agreed, noticed that too. Feels repetitive saying consideration and consider in the same sentence. Remove the first part or change it to "For your consideration, 4 cars for you to take a look at".
Competition is getting tough. Honda just came out with new Pilot, the new Mazda cx90 is being announced in January and then the Toyota Grand highlander will be announced in 2023. Lots of choice
Honda is overpriced like crazy and very cheaply equipped. Current Highlander is too small inside, we'll see what Grand Highlander will look like. I'm guessing it will cost more than Kia and Hyundai. CX90 should be interesting but not much is known yet. There is also VW Atlas that compares well on the space and price but is not as powerful and well equipped.
@@janoycresnova9156 I just drove in the vw atlas and it's nice but feels cheap. If the Atlas is well priced it could be a nice comprimise for a family suv. I am also waiting for the Highlander. I think the big question is how many will they make and when will it be available.
Was all on board for one of the two, then the 2023 pricing came out. Both companies have realized how both vehicles are in demand so they have over priced them. Now they’re out of my budget range.
Amazing review as always! Thanks Andrea and Zach! I think I'm sticking with the 23 Telluride but do wish the driver's seat was comfier with the massage option. I also love the fact that the Palisade is softer in it's suspension but Telluride just looks so much better. For the looks alone, I'll have to forego that additional drivers comfort and soft suspension.
For me it's Palisade in the exterior looks department all day long. However the massage seats are not your roller massagers. It just inflates and deflates part of the seat, which just feels like a cushion raising against your back as opposed to rollers that are found in massage chairs.
I like to make sure I bring my vehicles in for their required service at the various intervals ..but how does that work with a hybrid ? If I drive around using the hybrid and not the gas motors how do I know when it will need a oil change ?
The owners manual book gives you a recommended change interval. It's the same as the gas version in Toyota. The gas motor on a regular hybrid comes comes on often enough. Plug-in hybrid, not so sure since you could drive short trips for months without starting the engine. I would think you just do oil changes every 6 months regardless of engine usage, but I'm not sure.
I think wireles CarPlay is exaggerated. Wired one is more reliable for me. And Driving comfort is more important for me (better seats and suspension in Pallisade) than folding side mirrors or physical gear shifter. Hence Pallisade for me over Telluride.
Would you go Palisade or the Grand Cherokee Limited? I like the exterior of the jeep better but the interior I think is better in the Palisade but want to know your opinion currently I am on the Grand Cherokee.
Yeah, no wireless AA/Carplay? What's up with that? I heard there were some arguments with vendors/manufacturers on this - and customers are paying for that battle. I have a much more expensive Genesis GV70 - and it also does not have wireless AA - but I do have a Motorola MA1 to take care of that...but I shouldn't have to.
This is from Consumer Reports magazine: "The Palisade is a very practical, competitive, and appealing vehicle. However, compared to the Telluride, it has a less plush ride." It seems they are saying the exact opposite of your experience that the Palisade had the better ride. For some reason I am more inclined to believe YOUR take. Do you still stand by your opinion that the Palisade has the better ride? I am leaning towards this over the Telluride so your opinion matters to me.
I had a Lyft ride today in a Palisade, i was quite impressed with the interior space. What about the safety features like Forward Collision Assistance/Cross Traffic, is is standard on all Palissades?
We wanted the SEL w/the premium package as it adds so many options and we don't have to live with that chrome grill. However, since none of the models have wireless CarPlay, we may have to look at something like the Pilot instead. It's a shame since there are so many cool options on the Palisade!
Hear me out… my phone never charges on my wireless charging pad in the car, it moves to much. Wireless CarPlay also drains my phones battery, so I don’t mind plugging in. Usually it’s more reliable and charges my phone better.
This. I don't understand why people want wireless. It's going to drain your phone so fast and you won't even realize until you get to your destination.
It looks good…….but center console looks very wide. I don’t understand why many do that. It makes it feel like it’s a smaller vehicle…….not leg wiggle room. 😊
I wish that the reviewers would quit crying about the lack of wireless Apple car play and Android. The Hyundai has a lot more equipment than it’s competitors for the money. Have you never experienced signal drop out over wireless. Is it that hard to plug a phone in. I love my 2022 Calligraphy. It is comfortable, rides nice and gets decent mileage for its size.
When you came to stop sign the car took a nose dive which is a sure tell of soft suspension. I would buy the lower trim but it doesn't come with heated steering wheel.
I’ve had a 2023 palisade calligraphy in Canada for a couple months now. Special notes that I found after the fact- in Canada there are no heated seats in the 3rd row. Also there is no digital key in Canada, after speaking to bluelink Canada there is currently no plan on them introducing the digital key either.
That is the worst grill I have ever seen. That aside, I wish you could speak to the expected reliability of these models. I shy away from Kia and Hyundai because of their past reliability performance. They seem to drive well and are cheaper than competitors, but long-term you get what you pay for.
Great review, been comparing the Telluride and Pallisade. As for no wireless Android auto, there is an easy solution.....they sell adapters you can plug in then you can use wireless with your phone. Works great and east. Not having it is not a big deal.
Uses Bluetooth on your phone with the adapter and it is not very reliable. A lot of hit and misses with the adapter, plus why pay additional for an option that should be standard? SMH
I like the Palisade a lot, but the wheels on the Calligraphy are horrible. Hyundai should make a couple of wheel options on that trim level instead of wrongly assuming that everyone who wants a Calligraphy wants a Euro multispoke wheel.
Agree about the wireless car play (Apple and Android). Cannot believe they do not offer wireless with the better trims. Mind boggling and turns me away from buying this vehicle. Their two things to improve I agree 100%. So close to being a really great vehicle! Last, like the dash infotainment center on the Telluride better. Seems more modern and streamlined.
Good luck with rock chips on that plastic chrome grill. The only recourse is replacement or covering with ppf - what a pain. And a push button shifter - the answer to the question that was never asked. I would take a Mazda CX 9 for the drive, torque and appearance, every, single, time. The Mazda CX 90 will be an even more interesting option and likely, again, a much better handling vehicle, never mind a luxury, straight six cylinder.
Definitely the Telluride, despite B.C's iffy Kia dealer network of sales and service. I still can't get past those "push button" gear levers. Hyundai already the most user-friendly one, of the crops of horrible ones. Honda/Acura and Lincoln are absolutely terrible.
Old schools engin 15w30. Known for carbon build up. Change oil every 5000 miles. Lots of driving noise in cabin bc a long area underneath the car is not insulated. The exhaust pipes don't have a good weld. 😕 There's two places where Huundai installed mesh. That means it will leak down the road. Design mess up. Interior is cool. Ride is OK. Noisy. Tires are soft, cheap and not rugged enough.
Interesting comment on the seat comfort vs the Telluride-I have not seen similar comments in other reviews. I do not know how to square your review with others like Edmunds, for example. Telluride-"Plush ride and well-shaped seats offer all-day comfort._Palisade-"Comfortable seating and ride quality."
The Telluride seats are definitely firmer, I am surprised to hear that other reviewers think they are equally as comfortable as the Palisade. The Telluride seats are similar to the Kia Sorento which are also firm.
@@andreaspencer9813 Interesting. Thanks for the comment. If I am not mistaken, you guys tested the top trim levels in each (SXP and Calligraphy). Seat comfort being very important to me, I test drove several Telly trim levels and, not surprisingly, found the Telluride SXP Nappa leather seats more comfortable than the lower trim levels. I wasn't interested in the Palisade because of the lack of power folding mirrors so did not drive them. So I ordered a 2023 Telluride SXP. Hope I made the right decision-you guys have me a bit concerned. I guess I can add a butt cushion if I need it! 😁
I test drove the Telluride, the seats and ride are firmer which gave the impression of handling a bit sturdier. I do prefer the softer ride of the Palisade, which drives similarly to the Hyundai Santa Fe.
I like this vehicle’s interior with lots of features but exterior is ok. I don’t like the front design. It’s seems like a wall. I am surprise they using V6 not 4. And too pricey for me. Great video Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻☕️☕️
You are right, it's a great SUV but 3-row options are becoming more expensive. It's nice to see the Palisade come with so many features, you do feel like you are getting a lot for your money.
@@andreaspencer9813 hello Andrea this vehicle needs a DIESEL engine to improve the fuel economy. It is sold with 2.2 CRDi turbo diesel with 204 HP but 440 Nm of torque from 1750 rpm to 2750 rpm. And you need the torque to move this mass. the fuel consumption is 7.3 L/100 km in a combined driving.

And … I think Hyundai is fairly priced… despite my rant.
Can you remove the "For your consideration" part of the competition section? That always feels repetitive to me 😋
As for this car, totally agree that no wireless AA or CarPlay is a deal breaker in a car that's trying to look so futuristic but isn't delivering. Currently that's my biggest gripe with Tesla
Agreed, noticed that too. Feels repetitive saying consideration and consider in the same sentence. Remove the first part or change it to "For your consideration, 4 cars for you to take a look at".
I think a Honda Pilot vs Toyota Highlander video would be cool
The Pilot would be more in line to compare to the Highlander
@@naveenthemachine destroy it at what? Higher price?
Competition is getting tough. Honda just came out with new Pilot, the new Mazda cx90 is being announced in January and then the Toyota Grand highlander will be announced in 2023. Lots of choice
Honda is overpriced like crazy and very cheaply equipped. Current Highlander is too small inside, we'll see what Grand Highlander will look like. I'm guessing it will cost more than Kia and Hyundai. CX90 should be interesting but not much is known yet. There is also VW Atlas that compares well on the space and price but is not as powerful and well equipped.
@@naveenthemachine says the Korea bot
@@janoycresnova9156 I just drove in the vw atlas and it's nice but feels cheap. If the Atlas is well priced it could be a nice comprimise for a family suv. I am also waiting for the Highlander. I think the big question is how many will they make and when will it be available.
@@naveenthemachine It hasn't even come out yet :)
2023 Subaru ascent for us. We tried both Palisade and telluride but decided on the Ascent. Reliable and affordable.
Was all on board for one of the two, then the 2023 pricing came out. Both companies have realized how both vehicles are in demand so they have over priced them. Now they’re out of my budget range.
KIA is price-gouging on the Telluride
I’m not sure why, but his couple reminds me of that SNL “Morning Latte” skit with Will Ferrell and Cheryl Oteri.
The third row button is a one-touch operation.
You don't have to hold it like in the video.
I’d take the Telluride i actually like that X-Pro trim specially in the new midnight lake blue
@@ghenry85 , so if its the same as the gas version and I run mostly in hybrid mode I’m possibly spend money on an oil change I really don’t need
@@gobear83 its likely longer intervals than the non hybrid models. You just go with what the manual says. Engineers thought of things like this.
Great vlog!! You did not mention Caligraphy (unless I missed the mention). Is this still the top trim?
Yes it is the Calligraphy trim.
I think wireles CarPlay is exaggerated. Wired one is more reliable for me. And Driving comfort is more important for me (better seats and suspension in Pallisade) than folding side mirrors or physical gear shifter. Hence Pallisade for me over Telluride.
Why is wireless charging a premium feature when it costs $5 for the parts
Would you go Palisade or the Grand Cherokee Limited? I like the exterior of the jeep better but the interior I think is better in the Palisade but want to know your opinion currently I am on the Grand Cherokee.
Is it possible for you to give us a review on the old school out dated engine?
Think I can get by without a power operated 3rd row.
Please do a video of a Honda engineer driving the Calligraphy. Maybe ask them if there proud of the new Pilot with its 9" screen.
They’re*
The question, why doesn't up Canada, have different trims as in the United States
FYI used the power folding seats a lot and has been very nice 👍 in 2020 limited
Palisade has the best interior and comfort while Telluride has the looks and little more cargo space behind third row.
Great review, as an owner of a 2020 Ultimate, the new changes look great
I had a Lyft ride today in a Palisade, i was quite impressed with the interior space. What about the safety features like Forward Collision Assistance/Cross Traffic, is is standard on all Palissades?
How is the towing in the calligraphy trim of this ?
We wanted the SEL w/the premium package as it adds so many options and we don't have to live with that chrome grill. However, since none of the models have wireless CarPlay, we may have to look at something like the Pilot instead. It's a shame since there are so many cool options on the Palisade!
You can easily add an aftermarket dongle for wireless carplay/Aauto for 200 bucks...
Would the Acura MDX type s ultra be a worthy upgrade from this.
Yes! The more sports-like driving dynamics alone would be an upgrade.
@@clearcut6818 because humans are stupid beings....some phones are too big for that wireless charging pad.
Beautiful car drive review
It looks good…….but center console looks very wide. I don’t understand why many do that. It makes it feel like it’s a smaller vehicle…….not leg wiggle room. 😊
The wireless phone projection situation is becoming as ridiculous as when Toyota insisted on their Entune system.
I wish I could watch a Canadian car channel that uses the metric system or at least show on screen
Wish we got this in the UK
팰리세이드 진짜 디자인 잘 나온것 같아요
When you came to stop sign the car took a nose dive which is a sure tell of soft suspension. I would buy the lower trim but it doesn't come with heated steering wheel.
I’m getting 31 mpg on the highway. Drives all day.
Any one looking for this vehicle? How long is the waitlist in Canada? Atlantic provinces to be clear.
Yeah, I don't understand why that isn't available for any of their vehicles in Canada? I can't get it on my Genesis either!
Another annoying in “America but not Canada” is bluelink in car wifi. It’s brand new to the 2023 palisade.. but not in Canada!
I just bought a 2023 Calligraphy and I have 3rd row heated seats 🤷🏻♀️
Neither when they charge 12k over MSRP
I actually prefer wired Android Auto, better connection and it charges the phone better in my cell phone case.
Can you compare the recent GV80 to the recent Q7?
i have the car and 660 km per tank is a stretch
Same with my 2019 Rav4 hybrids rated for newly 1000km/tank... Ya right I get 650km/tank at best!
I have a 22 Tucson hybrid. I was getting around 700km per tank!
the top trim in Canada I thought you said was upward of 60,000... isn't that creeping up to the luxury category 🤔
The way Andrea said: "SIZE MATTERS!" made me quiver a little bit. 😁
She's crazy in bed.
SMH
To me, the wireless thing is not a big deal given most people are often hooked to chargers anyway.
I like the Palisade a lot, but the wheels on the Calligraphy are horrible. Hyundai should make a couple of wheel options on that trim level instead of wrongly assuming that everyone who wants a Calligraphy wants a Euro multispoke wheel.
That new grill looks like Thor's armor.
How is it an 8 passenger vehicle? I thought it was only 7. Did I miss something?
What the heck was that thing doing the leaves at 16:57? 😂
Robot street sweeper
@@clearcut6818 looks bad-arse. We don’t have anything like that in Australia
Extremely hard choice between these 2 beauties!! Telluride or Palisade.
I'll take a Pilot.
“Big old v6” oh, how times have changed
Kia for me .
Good luck with rock chips on that plastic chrome grill. The only recourse is replacement or covering with ppf - what a pain. And a push button shifter - the answer to the question that was never asked. I would take a Mazda CX 9 for the drive, torque and appearance, every, single, time. The Mazda CX 90 will be an even more interesting option and likely, again, a much better handling vehicle, never mind a luxury, straight six cylinder.
hyundai is very nice car
Ugh, that front end design is embarrassing
This was the all-new 2023 Telluride, those reviews might be from 2022.
@@Motormouth... Well, they supposedly are on the 2023 Telluride and the 2023 Palisade.. Thanks for the reply.
Stealership will add $10,000 for market adjustment on these pulse another $5,000 for trash add on’s and fees. No thanks it’s just an suv
No hybrid, I am out.
Good Overall Car but the taillights good have been better tho

I started hanging out at car dealerships to have conversations with woman that knows cars like Andrea
@@andreaspencer9813 👍🏻👍🏻
