@@mattp1376 admittedly I only saw two episodes of the UK version (one of the US was too much). The first UK episode was redone for NBC in the US, and it stank. The original was no better. The other episode I saw was the one where we saw several scenes from different viewpoints, different languages. Clever, a tour de force, but I didn't care for the characters, most of whom were jokes. The two "straight " characters, the couple we supposedly identified with, I remember the woman belittling the man in front of the others because he fell short in her eyes and (I realize it was only twice) but he would loudly confess his shortcomings and his love instead of walking out on the bitch forever. Agree. Going back further Steptoe and Son, Hancock, The Rag Trade, The Frost Report, Not Only But Also, The Goodies, Alias Smith and Jones, Little Britain, One Foot In The Grave. The makers of this video obviously lack knowledge of great British comedy. I think they must be 17 years old.
Little Britain and Bottom don't deserve to be on there. Some Mothers do 'ave 'em hasn't aged well. Surprised to see no Father Ted or Dad's Army. Honestly this list has just reminded me of how many fantastic British comedies there have been, and how I feel that there is currently a complete lack of anything good.

So many wonderful comedies! I was surprised To the Manor Born, Are You Being Served, Fresh Fields/French Fields, and The Good Life didn't make the list.

Totally agree with the number one spot. Fawlty Towers is one of my fave comedies, along with Blackadder. However, how could you not include Dad's Army! It should have been in at least the top 5!
I remember my parents watching Dad's Army in the 1960s when I was a little girl. I'm 68 now - I'm guessing it's a bit too old to make it onto a contemporary list.
The rich history of British comedy is in a league of its own. With that said, Fawlty Towers is and will perhaps always be THE SHOW! Comedy gold that stood the test of time!
@@caze3154 I'm English living in Wales, if I was to produce a video about Wales or Welsh names I would do something called research to make sure I got them right.
The British made far too much fantastic comedy to stick within a list of just 20 - I'm old enough to remember Morecambe & Wise, Tommy Cooper, the Two Ronnies and Peter Cook & Dudley Moore. More recently, Ab Fab and Yes Minister/Prime Minister are just two. My Australian-born son would add Black Adder and Red Dwarf to the list. For me though, Allo Allo and Benidorm are my current faves.

Fry and Laurie!! And what about smith and jones, hale and pace and the two ronnies to name a few! Open all hours too for that matter. All comedy titans!
Agreed with most picks. Disappointed in not seeing "Mr. Bean" or "Thin Blue Line" in the mix. Maybe they thought that it would be too much Rowan, but is there such a thing? Jim Broadbent's "Peter Principle"/"The Boss" is quite funny and worth mentioning as well.

you have not even touched the dozens of sketch shows that are the true heart of their comedy
I'm missing quite a few: George and Mildred, Are you being served?, Dad's Army, You rang, M'Lord?, It ain't half hot mum, Mr. Bean, Bottom, Some Mothers do 'ave 'em, Little Britain, The Benny Hill Show, The Two Ronnies.
Agree. Going back further Steptoe and Son, Hancock, The Rag Trade, The Frost Report, Not Only But Also, The Goodies, Alias Smith and Jones, Little Britain, One Foot In The Grave. The makers of this video obviously lack knowledge of great British comedy. I think they must be 17 years old.
dont forget The new statesman too :)
Now I think of it.. bigger than You Rang M'Lord.. has anyone mentioned Hi-de-hi?
Love the thick of it, the writers are unrivalled, absolute masterpiece
Are You Being Served? Last Of The Summer Wine?
Last of the Summer Wine! Such an unforgettable classic, as were all seventy-two seasons of Are You Being Served...
Absolutely Fabulous only at 20?! No Mr. Bean?! No Jeeves and Wooster?! No A Bit of Fry and Laurie? IT Crowd at only 12?! No Benny Hill?!!! WTF. Come on. At least they got #1 right.
The lack of Dad's Army, Open All Hours and Father Ted is unforgivable.
Father Ted is technically irish
@@youngybhoy1988 made by a British TV channel cos the Irish TV stations wouldn't allow it.
They'll be classing Father Ted as Irish! Cause there is no way that wouldn't be on
I think the problem here is trying to squeeze decades of brilliant British comedy into a list of just 20 shows.
I agree with most of these. I feel like you missed "Grace and Favor/Are You Being Served," "Good Life/Good Neighbors," and "Detectorists." And how could I forget "Jeeves and Wooster" and "A Little Bit of Fry and Laurie?!" There's just too much excellent comedy to choose from.
Jeeves and Wooster is more of a comedy drama then sitcom
Suprised Dad's Army isn't anywhere on the list. Same with Lash of the Summer Wine. They're pretty iconic.
So many wonderful comedies! I was surprised To the Manor Born, Are You Being Served, Fresh Fields/French Fields, and The Good Life didn't make the list.
Where is Benny Hill, Mr. Bean, and Are You Being Served?
Oh yes Benny hill
or You rang M'lord?... The new statesman.. Bottom
These are the best comedies for Brits And Americans themselves.
Mr. Bean is the only one understood by the entire world .
I love these comedy shows because they make me laugh when I'm feeling upset or if I'm feeling down. I love these videos as well
For me as follows....
1. One Foot in the Grave. 2. The Brittas Empire. 3. Ever Decreasing Circles. 4. Only Fools.... 5. Fawlty Towers. 6. Hi De Hi. 7. The Good Life. 8. Some Mothers Do ave em. 9. The Office . 10. The Vicar of Dibley. 11. Filthy Rich and Catflap.
Totally agree with the number one spot. Fawlty Towers is one of my fave comedies, along with Blackadder. However, how could you not include Dad's Army! It should have been in at least the top 5!
..or 'The Last of the Summer Wine' & 'The Good Life'!
yep,with you there,see my comment.
@@RalphWigg1 i agree plus are you being served
I remember my parents watching Dad's Army in the 1960s when I was a little girl. I'm 68 now - I'm guessing it's a bit too old to make it onto a contemporary list.
Not to mention porridge. An absolute classic that should be up there with only fools
Porridge was awesome. The trouble is, us Brits have made far too much brilliant comedy TV to squeeze it into a list of just 20!
100% ❤
The 'faaathhheerrrrr' scene in IT Crowd is def my fave comedy scene of all time.
You left out the best of them all- Are You Being Served?
No “Are you being served?” I’m also a huge fan of “Coupling.”
Yes! They are missing.
I am a fan as well. Also "As Time Goes By".
Did anyone see Garth Marenghi's Darkplace? If you like British humor..
Are you being served? That's what I said . greetings from Texas .
1. Blackadder 2. Alan Partridge 3. Peep Show 4. Fawlty Towers 5. The League of Gentlemen.
I loved the "Bucket" woman!!, Poor Richard. And Fawlty Towers definitely #1
The rich history of British comedy is in a league of its own. With that said, Fawlty Towers is and will perhaps always be THE SHOW! Comedy gold that stood the test of time!
Any on else’s laugh at ‘slow’ not slough as in cow
Sorry Caz, he's Welsh.
I bet us English would be more hilarious trying so say Welsh names
@@WatchMojoUK I'm Welsh but i actually watch the programmes so I know how to pronounce it all ffs
@@caze3154 I'm English living in Wales, if I was to produce a video about Wales or Welsh names I would do something called research to make sure I got them right.
@@WatchMojoUK Welsh? Has an English accent?
Coupling ? Brittas Empire ? Jeeves and Wooster ?
Maybe the list needs to be longer.
Oh my goodness. No “Are you being served?” - that and “Fawlty Towers” were the best EVER.
Are you being served? Was the absolute best
Right?! Where’s “Are You Being Served?” I loved that one
Peep Show is sheer sublime genius.
Where is Are You Being Served? That is a great comedy!
biggest crime ever dads army not being on there, its iconic
The British made far too much fantastic comedy to stick within a list of just 20 - I'm old enough to remember Morecambe & Wise, Tommy Cooper, the Two Ronnies and Peter Cook & Dudley Moore. More recently, Ab Fab and Yes Minister/Prime Minister are just two. My Australian-born son would add Black Adder and Red Dwarf to the list. For me though, Allo Allo and Benidorm are my current faves.
Dick Emery, Harry Enfield, Up Pompeii, Are you being served, some mothers do ave em, benny hill, Porridge...
Where are Porridge, Dad's Army, Bottom, the Royle family, Not the nine o'clock news, Steptoe and Son, The New Statesman, Spitting Image these were so much better than some on this list
You need to upgrade this list to Top 50! So many missed!
20 British comedy shows in semi-random order.
How The League Of Gentlemen dd not make the top 10 let alone get a mention is scandalous
1. Royle Family
2. Phoenix Nights
3. The Office
4. Trigger Happy TV
5. Red Dwarf
I'm sad Coupling wasn't on the list. The 1st 3 seasons of Coupling are just about the funniest shows I've ever seen.
What about ‘Men Behaving Badly’?
But what about, "Are You Being Served?"?
"Mr. Humphries are you free?"
@@KayoMichiels "I'm free!"
Corny jokes....
@@cynthiaromero3818 The corn maketh the flakes.
Allo Allo was committed and not just a string of pussy jokes.
Spaced and Fawlty Towers were brilliant, but where was Dads Army and Till Death do us Part
“ARE YOU BEING SERVED” IS NUMBER ONE FOLKS !
No Royle Family, Rising Damp, Steptoe and Son, Phoenix Nights, Porridge, the list goes on.
League of Gentlemen too.
Favorites include
"Monty Python's Flying Circus",
"Benny Hill",
"Absolutely Fabulous",
"Smack The Pony"
& original version
of "Whose Line Is It, Anyway?"
1. Only Fools & Horses
2. Bottom
3. Fawlty Towers
4. Open All Hours
5. Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em
6. Dads Army
7. Porridge
8. Bread
9. Men Behaving Badly
10. Red Dwarf
11. The Young Ones
12.The Fast Sow
13. Little Britain
14. I'm Alan Partridge
15.. Mr Bean
16. Blackadder
17. Alo Alo
18. Keeping Up Appearances
19. The Inbetweeners
20. Monty Python
You have to do another list. So many not mentioned - 2 Ronnie, French and Saunders, Wood and Walters, Phoenix Nights and the greatest ever... Morecambe and Wise
Morecambe and Wise are my all time favourite double act. I do understand why they weren't included though as it wasn't a sitcom. But for British comedy in general they would definately be in my number 1 spot.
Wood and Walters was a sketch show. Looking at what made the list I can't believe VW's sitcom Dinnerladies got missed though
As an American I think that The Good Life, Are You Being Served? and As Time Goes By should all be in top 5 (as well as Keeping Up Appearances). Most of my friends agree!
Fry and Laurie!! And what about smith and jones, hale and pace and the two ronnies to name a few! Open all hours too for that matter. All comedy titans!
The omission of “The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin” is gobsmacking. I’d also rank “To the Manor Born” and “As Time Goes By” above many of these.
that's true.Leonard Rossiter was also in Rising Damp, another huge omission.
Well, obviously at the very least this list will require a sequel...
The list will require a REVISION.
I'm a simple man.
I see Richard Ayoade as Moss, I click.
1. Monty Python
2. The Young Ones
3. The Mighty Boosh
4. The Office
5. Extras
6. Peep Show / That Michell and Webb Look
7. Garth Merenghi
8. Toast of London
9. Spaced
10. IT Crowd
IT Crowd wins in my book
OMG I JUST DISCOVERED _PEEP SHOW and THAT MITCHELL AND WEBB LOOK_ ..... must make the list. love those shows. so good
I forgot about Toast of London´and Dark Place. Snuff Box was brilliant, too.
To be fair the list should be the top 30 or 40 shows. There really have been so many great comedies over the years.
@@jagolago-bob agreed
Are Your Being Served? was missing on this list :(
I feel Dad's Army, One Foot In The Grave, Porridge and Gimme Gimme Gimme all say hi!
Shows how great British comedy is when so many classics are missing
What about
Are you being served
My hero
My family
Farther Ted
Dads army
No heroics
The FARTHER Ted is the better...lol
Father Ted. Never heard of My Hero or No Heriocs..lol
18:21 I LOVE Rowan Atkinson in his spoken roles.... Blackadder, The Thin Blue Line, Johhny English, Not The 9 o'clock news
Why do the Brits consistently ignore The Goodies? I love it, it's super popular in Australia, and most Brits haven't even heard of it...
Oh now I liked that as a kid, but as an adult I found it a bit daft, although the one where they battled evil toys including giant ones in a stately home was quite funny. Tim Brooke Taylor was my first crush lol.
@@JasmineSurrealVideos oh I loved Tim too. xxx
Of course we’ve heard of The Goodies - well those of a certain age. Blame the BBC, they repeat everything but this classic. Goody Goody Yum Yum
Stephen Fry and John Bird were in a series in the early 2000's called Absolute Power which was hilarious.
I'm American, but was expecting to see Are You Being Served and Mr. Bean. I was surprised The IT Crowd was so low though. It's one of the funniest shows I've ever seen.
I am too. I'm also surprised that one of my favorites, To The Manor Born, wasn't there.
As an American, I'm surprised I've seen every show on this list. And although there are some I disagree shouldn't be on this list, I'm perplexed that Father Ted, Are You Being Served or Dad's Army didn't make the list. Even Steptoe & Son deserved to be here.
Waiting for God needs to be on here. It's brilliant 😂
I'm probably the only one who remembers No, Honestly with John Alderton and very young and very delightful Pauline Collins. It used to be on Chicago television at 10:00 pm Sunday nights in the late 1970s (followed by Monty Python's Flying Circus at 10:30).
No "Are You Being Served?"
