2017 KTM 390 Duke Review

  • 2017 KTM 390 takes on a moto market which is spoiled for lustful choices in the high-end arena, but creating a desirable motorcycle at a budget price is a more challenging achievement. The KTM 390 Duke has been entertaining us with its unequaled balance of style, performance and value since we first took the terrific little funster for a spin in 2015, and it rightfully earned its place as Best Entry-Level Motorcycle in our annual MOBO awards. For 2017, the little Duke gets even more desirable by offering greater comfort, higher technology and a bit more power.

    Just bought one, had a 690 Enduro R before, but this gets very close. Feels more aggressive even because of the stiffer suspension and seating position. Perfect bike to spice up those commutes.

      not sure about the 690 Duke, but I had the 690 Enduro R and the big thumper can feel kind of unrefined and agricultural at times. I ride in the city mostly with some highway riding and the 690 was just a bit too rowdy and on/off with the power. It wasn't happy not going wide open throttle everywhere.

    nice video, I called a few dealers and was surprised that it was sold out everywhere, finally I found one two hours away from my place, I went check it out same day and when I looked at it I said the seller I want it, me my wife, and my 8 year old son love it, so happy with this beauty, I have had the yamaha R1, honda cbr600, suzuki gsx750, ninja 600, and now this and I haven't found anything wrong in it.. God bless.

We buy expensive shoes and cell phones made in 3rd world countries by kids and we show off such devices with no problem. • @MrSlowestD16
    @MrSlowestD16 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have a 2015 and I'm kind of jealous of this. But I don't want the fly by wire. Every bike with fly by wire I've ridden with the exception of the R1200GS is utter trash, so I have no love for that stupid setup. I do not understand in the slightest why bike manufacturers refuse to make a decent fly by wire setup.
    Everything aside from the fly by wire, though, all good upgrades that I'm kinda of jealous of. No game changers in there, though. I absolutely love my duke. It's the perfect in-town commuter bike and I get 50mpg doing it. My VRod, Tiger, etc. are all fun, but they're nowhere near this agile for commuting, lane splitting, etc. I'm smitten with this bike.

    • @twowheeldanger
      @twowheeldanger 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ride-by-wire throttle responses are getting better all the time. In this case, the throttle response is way better than the old cable, and it never stalls when coming to a quick stop when hot like the older version occasionally did. Does your 2015 ever do that?

    • @MrSlowestD16
      @MrSlowestD16 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine doesn't, but I've heard of the issue before My only real complaint is that the throttle transition fueling on mine isn't fantastic, but I think I'd rather have that then the snappy on/off feeling that's ever-so-common with fly-by-wire bikes. My Tiger can be a huge pain to ride because of that.

    • @twowheeldanger
      @twowheeldanger 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you'd be impressed by the new Duke's throttle response. Not all RbW throttles have the lurchy action riders hate. It'd be interesting to hear your reaction to a ride on the 2017 version.

      MrSlowestD16 the old bike is a raw beast with raw outrageous power. this one looks good but who needs looks when your bike isnt fast enough? thr old one is 100% charm

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's all in the manufacturer's calibration. Since the TBW is a cable connection from the grip to a sensor, which in turn feeds specific voltage to the ECU, which in turn interprets that voltage as throttle position and reconfigures the output based on a load of other factors, which in turn tells a servo motor to turn the physical throttle butterflies, it all depends on how the manufacturer programed all of that. In just about every case in existence, a good tuner reflashing the ECU can clean up all of that to function as smooth as a perfectly tuned carburetor.
      But since a computer is telling the throttle servo to open the throttle, it should become mandatory to give riders cruise control. Just more coding and some switches. Comon.

I dont know what other people think but I dont like the white I feel like it makes it look less aggressive there is just something about it that turns me off from it. Sucks will take me awhile to try and find the color I want at that price. I am just not settling for a color I dont want and I refuse to pay dealer premiums. Their are dealers out there charging over $6,300 for these things the average price I found was $6,200-Ridiculous considering for less then 1k you can get a 650z kawasaki or similiar.

    I hate KTM for this!! They do 3 strict Quality controls for the exporting lot. First by Bajaj and Second by KTM in India and the Third, last one by KTM in overseas. But we here in India get the worst quality. Don't believe me? Check that out yourself,there are many Moto bloggers who owns this and facing hell lot of issues like ECU faliure, headlight switching off due to overheating etc.

    the only concern about the bike is the fart sound it makes. its a turn off for me.

      I have a 2016 duke 390, I am 194cm. It may look too small for me but I enjoy it anyway, riding is not about how it looks anyway. 1 day I literally rode 7 hours, it was quite okay comfort wise, especially back isn´t the best. Only times I dream of a bigger bike is when I am not riding.

    Upgraded with so many issues. Ktm sucks. Their bikes look sick but the quality is shit.
