    I have KTM RC 390 2016 and it has done more than 27,000kms. Modified exhaust, rear shock, racing rearsets, KTM RC 200 rear sprocket, open air box and powertronic piggyback ECU. No problems and it runs like a charm and revs upto 12000 RPM. Love KTM.

    Love riding in Gran Canaria, it's great for us northern Europeans to escape there from the winter this time of year. The west coast GC200 is probably my favourite from Agete, called by up the old road to check out the rock fall which eventually closed that part of it. You certainly don't need a big engined bike to enjoy those roads.

    I have a RC390 2017 with a little bit over 10,000 km on the odo, it is my first bike, bought it brand new a year and a half ago, I actually wanted an R3, but here in Mexico the R3 was 1,000 usd dollars more expensive and it didn't have ABS and I believe that the KTM make more HPs on the wheel, plus the brakes, the frame and the forks looks better and are probably better on the KTM. Oh, but this 390 has giving me a lot of trouble with the cooling system and KTM Mexico has not been up to the par with the post sale service, even before the first service the coolant level started to drop and after they finally fix it (after more than 2 months on the dealer garage) the fan failed when it had 6000 KM , they fix it but did not changed, so instead of waiting for it to fail, I changed the coolant for Engine Ice and the swapped the stock fan for a Spal. I love how the bike drives and makes me feel. Recently I bought a MX-5 ND and still prefer to ride the bike than to drive that car. Anyway, long short story: bought a proven bike from a more reputable manufacturer like Yamaha or Honda. If I didn't have changed the exhaust system for a Yoshi (450 dollars) and the fan, I would probably had selled the bike already. Not buying any KTM ever, not even that awesome Super Duke which it is made in Austria, KTM Mexico does not stand for they products.

    If KTM's 390's prove to have sorted all their teething issues out finally I think this is possibly one of the best platforms for a low cost, exciting, efficient, practical, easy to mange, motorcycle that is impossible not to absolutely love. Ive had plenty of riding time on these bikes working for a KTM, BMW, Suzuki Triumph dealer and have to say it's one of my favourite bikes to ride on public roads taking into consideration EVERYTHING from all the other manufactures I mentioned above. The 390 Duke appears to hit the sweet spot in so many ways and proves you don't need any more horsepower when a bike weighs as little as one of these. There's very little to criticise about the way it goes, stops and handles. Styling is of course subjective and you'll either love it or hate it but you can't see it when you're doing what it was designed to do so it shouldn't stop anyone from taking a test ride to see for themselves. I hope KTM continue to hone, refine and keep improving this particular model. News is KTM is currently working on a new 390 Duke for 2020!

Sadly my KTM 500 EXC is usless on ice without spiked tires (tried with the original knobbies and it was so slippery that you could not even start on flat ground without rear wheel spinning lol). I am now just waiting for the summer so I can go riding again... I plan to move to warmer place then this as the dark long winters north of polar circle sucs...

    Its the most refined that KTM has made out of all the 390's. Its an absolute monster and corners is where it feels at home. I have clocked 16k Kms on the odo and still feels new. Changed the metzellers once. Yes the TFT have some issues..but hey at this price point its a pretty good deal. I have kept up with 650 cc parallel twin cylinder engines easily with this. Yes the vibrations do crop in around 140, its a single cylinder afterall. But very firm stable and some kickass brakes. The best money can get atleast here in India.

    5:13 The Duke 390 has a 373.2 cc engine not a 390 cc!
    I've been riding the previous Gen Duke 390 for 4 years now, an absolute masterpiece of a bike for this price. But I do agree about the Chain Sprocket issue. I guess since a lot of the parts for this bike are made by Indian motorcycle manufacturer Bajaj (who also owns majority stake in KTM BTW), and since they are all about making motorcycles for the masses (very reasonably priced) they do tend to cut corners and due to that sometimes their parts aren't up to the mark at all. the silver lining is that you get parts for real cheap for this bike. 😁

      Hi :) I believe they checked the clearance on the second service on 16 000 km which costs already about 160 EUR. On every bike it is important to check valve clearance time by time (usually every 10 or 20 000 km), so this should not be an issue. I believe it is a great bike for the price tag.

    Fantastic bike. Purchased a year ago! Quick question: better a 390 to be exploited at full power or a 790 to drive with much more attention? (I'm undecided whether or not to upgrade)

    • @JFMotorcycles
      @JFMotorcycles  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a tough question and I guess budget will also play its role. You can buy two 390s for one 790 :) Btw. Haven't you thinking about 690? This may be a great match. Anyway if I do not care about money, I would probably get 790... Despite the 390 is awesome bike, 790 brings even more emotions, more versatility and the sound + quickshifter hohohoooo

    • @michael07nz
      @michael07nz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@JFMotorcycles I believe you gave the best answer you could give. In Italy at the moment the 790 costs 9700 euros with Akrapovic included. The 690... I considered it, nice bike. I just prefer the new riding position of the 790 or the 390 I currently have. The 690 here costs 7500, but at that price I should add akrapovic, map dongle, led indicators, I would go up so much price and I would approach the 790. And as you say, the sound and quickshifter alone are worth that extra expense: )
      My doubt remains more related to the ability to take advantage of 100 horses (for a normal rider like me) compared to 44 of the 390. It must be considered however that the 790 has different maps so it can also be a smoother bike!
      Grazie e ciao from Italy! :)

    • @nickam4100
      @nickam4100 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@michael07nz Honestly, if I were to buy with my brain I would go for the 390. Yes, the 790 is awesome and all the electronics are cool but, in my opinion, most people unless they are advanced riders that are doing track days regularly, won't be able to take advantage of the potential of any bike over 50hp. With that being said, I think it's always better to go smaller and learn to ride to the limits of the bike and then upgrade rather than go straight to the big bikes. Yes, you can go for the 790 but what's the point if you don't have the skill to go fast in the corners anyway? The only reason I would personally go for the 790 is for the looks, but honestly, there is no way I can use that thing to it's fullest, probably not even in 5 years unless I actually attend a lot of training courses. As you said, I'm sure you CAN actually ride it since it has different throttle maps and the traction control probably makes it a bit safer than the 390. But you have to be honest with yourself and think, do you need to pay twice as much for a bike that is probably a bit harder to ride and does pretty much what the 390 can do in your hands?

    Good objective review. However having owned one, I would NEVER buy another KTM based on my own experience. Fueling was appalling especially at light throttle openings. Cold starts ridiculous. From high revving to stalling. Intermittent Headlight failure and instrument failure. Worst bike I've ever owned. Thankfully gone but cost me a small fortune in depreciation. As a second bike and you have plenty of patience and money, go for it. When running right it will put a smile on your face. If its your first or only bike I would respectfully suggest you look elsewhere. I should clarify mine was a 2017 model, and most issues hopefully resolved by now. But in classic KTM style ( watch Ewen McGregor and Charlie Bormans " A Long Way Round") they don't win customers by producing poor product and having an arrogant attitude. Oh and the bike didnt even come with a manual. Thanks and apologies for being negative but it is what it is.

    Where would you rank it next to a BMW G310R? I have one and getting about 3,2 to 3,4l/100km. Service intervals are at 10 000km for the Bimmer

      I've tried both and I now drive a 2016 duke 390 with full titanium akrapovic and stage 2 intake/map. The BMW is surprisingly slow compared to the KTM, but I think the seating and suspension is generally better for commuting and slow riders, it's a lot softer and more wobbly on the corners, very bad for taking corners fast. The KTM is wayy more fun to drive, and the main difference i would say is that the torque curve of the KTM really outshines the BMW. At any RPM the KTM is more powerful and "ready" to go. The KTM has about 10 more horsepower as well, which, when in the below 50hp-range is VERY noticeable. Mine is pushing about 53hp to the rear whel along with a healthy 36nm of torque. With this tune i get about 3l/100km at normal mixed driving and touring i get 2,6l/km.

      @@Mort3nB Thanks for the insight Morten. I've got the G310, but mine is stock standard. I guess I'm more one for comfort, hence no need for me to even test ride the KTM. I an surprised about your economy. More power should equal more fuel usage. That's about what I'm getting from my bike...

    • @Mort3nB
      @Mort3nB 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wrczane Well, not really. You see, more power equals having to use less of the engine in order to move the bike forwards. If you drive it at full throttle constantly, then yes it would mean more consumption of course. But for regular riding, having to use so little of the available power the consumption is very low. I don't care to much for comfort at this point having a young(ish) body but i definately see myself caring a lot more about it in the future. Don't get me wrong, I liked the BMW, and if money weren't a problem, I would get a g310rs or honda cb500x for touring, and keep the 390 for having fun on. I am on an A2 license for now and will only have it for another year so I am quite happy exchanging comfort for power. I did get a comfort seat and I have raised the handlebars about 15mm though, helped a lot for longer distance riding :) Enjoy your bike, man! They're really nice :)

    I'm torn. I have had SV650 before and i was eventually going to buy the new SV650 to get back riding, but the Duke 390 keeps popping up! SV650 is 10.000 euros here in Denmark, and the Duke 390 is 7500-8000 euros. Would i be just as happy for the Duke 390? I love the looks of it!

      KTM is significantly faster in any situation than BMW. Also it has way more premium parts such as suspension, brakes, TFT display or possibility to connect bluetooth modul. And I am not even talking about lights, where KTM offers the whole different category (better).
      I am not sure about Honda which also use single cylinder but providing less power on the paper. It seems quite moders featuring for example Inertial Unit for better traction control (KTM does not have any of these). Also Honda may benefit from less weight, but I haven't had a chance to test it yet. I believe I will do it in March 2019.

Honda , yamaha , suzuki , kawasaki are 10 levels ahead when it comes to the engine.
