  • In this video I DIY upgrade my current weight belt for freediving. It was an easy job and was pretty fast to complete.
I'd grown tired of my very stiff Salvimar belt and wanted to change that without forking out for a super expensive belt.
So I decided to try replacing the belt with an elastic fitness band which cost less than £10.
I cut the band down to size and trim the edges. I punch holes in it to create the loop that goes around the buckle. I use my 3d printer to print a clasp to close the loop and use some 304 SS screws I had laying around to hold it all together. Obviously you don't require a 3d printer and could make the clasp out of pieces of Acrylic or something.
Once together I file the screw ends flat so they won't damage my wetsuit.
This job is pretty simple and for me it has been worth the effort. If you have a entry level freediving belt and don't want to fork out for an expensive one then this might be worth a try.
