I found as a general rule 1kg for every mil of suit, when you go into the water and relax upright the water should come no more than half way up your mask if you've the right weight
12kgs up here in the arctic lol. I'm envious of all the warm water divers. 7mm wetsuit with long john pants. I think I need a weight vest, my lower back hurts after a day diving.
Interesting as when I go diving overseas I get issued with a webbing weight belt .does not matter how tight I make it it still gets loose . I have lost two belts but manage to hold on and refit . Interesting about the rubber belt next time I will ask for one . Back home I am a drysuit diver and use a harness for my weights. Thanks👍
Great vid! What do you recommend doing with the excess belt once on? Conscious it defeats the purpose of a quick release if you tuck it. Should you trim excess?
I'm 5ft 6inches tall and weigh 70 kg and seriously thinking about taking up spear fishing (with a pole spear initially), I'm pretty sure I won't be swimming deeper than 10 metres......what kind of weight should I be considering attaching to a weight belt ? I'll be swimming off the coast of Goa and Karnataka (India), so won't be wearing a thick wetsuit. Thanks. PEACE.
I wear a 5.5mm suit at around 24% bodyfat and experimented until I discovered my optimal point of neutral buoyancy, also if you're 70 kg and 30% fat compared to a super lean 12% fat that also factors greatly.
This man knows what he is talking about .

Thanks for sharing. Appreciate it. Do people paint the lead to mitigate lead contamination? I know there are some coated weights for the concerned.

Music is too loud in this video. Or the spoken text is not loud enough.

Probably start with between 1-3kg. Check some guides on how to test your buoyancy on TH-cam.
@@l3rutality I'll do that !
Thanks for the advice.
