Hey, Kat! "Hellraiser" was the penultimate franchise of the indie horror cycle of the late '60's-'80's beginning with George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" in 1968 and ending with Stan Winston's "Pumpkinhead" in 1988. It is the most unique and layered member of this group. Clive Barker was ascribed the mantle of successor to Stephen King when the maestro famously said in a blurb, "I have seen the future of horror and his name is Clive Barker." A number of his books and short stories have been adapted to film including "Lord of Illusions", "Midnight Meat Train" and "Books of Blood". "Hellraiser" is based on a novella entitled "The Hellbound Heart". Producers asked for a name change for the film version because the original title sounded too romantic. At a loss, Barker put it to the production staff to come up with an alternative and a middle-aged woman on the film crew came up with a winner: "What a Woman Will Do for a Good F**k!" Lol. Uncle Frank was played lustily by Sean Chapman in flashback and menacingly by Oliver Smith in the skinless present. Clare Higgins' descent into absolute depravity is thrilling to watch as she wrestles with any moral qualms less and less. Finally, Ashley Laurence is tremendously underrated among Scream Queens as her virtuous ingenue Kirsty willingly consigns Uncle Frank's soul to eternal torment when the Cenobites come calling for her. Doug Bradley's role as Pinhead is small but his character design leaves an indelible impression becoming the emblem for the franchise. When he says, "We'll tear your soul apart!", it gives me chills. In a later entry, he has a great line: "Your suffering will be legendary even in Hell!" The film is about gradations of evil running the gamut from selfish self-preservation to evil personified. There is Kirsty's desperate exchange of Frank for herself, Clare's willing murders born of twisted lust, Frank's monstrous predations and fratricide, the Cenobites' revelry in exploring the further regions of experience and ol' Beelzebub himself monitoring the whole affair as a homeless vagrant only to reveal himself at the very end. The practical effects are extraordinary ranking with Rob Bottin's work on "The Thing" and Rick Baker's work on "An American Werewolf in London". Watching Frank reconstitute from protoplasm and brainstem is an Oscar-worthy set piece. The first three sequels are okay but they take a nose-dive after that. The fourth film, "Bloodline", is the most interesting because it shows the origin of the puzzle box in the 18th-century, tells a story in the present and continues with a descendant of the puzzle maker in the 22nd-century! Hulu recently released a reboot with a female Pinhead! RECOMMENDATIONS: "Evil Dead" (2013), "The Descent" (UK Version), "Martyrs", "Audition"
To be technical, the bargain that was being negotiated between Kirsty and the Cenobites never actually guaranteed that she would be released in exchange for Frank seeing that Pinhead stated "maybe" they would considering her terms. In all honesty, the only one who is actually guilty of reneging on a contractual agreement would be Kirsty seeing that she did open the lament configuration and summon the Cenobites.
Yes so many people miss that part where he says maybe. They seem to take that as a yes or an agreement for some reason and maybe is not yes or no. Maybe is I will think about it that's not an agreement. But technically she did not break it because she did bring them to Frank. Because apparently they were following her in their own way I also think they help to escape because she escaped from a locked room. I think or at least she got out of the hospital without anyone noticing somehow. It doesn't explain how she got out of the hospital so I'm saying. But as soon as Frank said what he did to his brother they showed up so technically she didn't need to open it.
@@83shadow3 She had already opened the box and according to that unspoken rule the Cenobites can't return to their dimension without taking someone with them which typically is the person who solved the configuration as per the contract, so you're correct that it was unnecessary that she need open the box again. I think the only reason Kirsty was even able to close the lament configuration was because the Cenobites had already reclaimed Frank's soul as well as Julia's in addition.
@@victorewah2659 Exactly people often seem to pay more attention to the blood and gore of this movie. In wich there is some but but not a lot to notice the actual details of the rules and what people say. Thats why I love this movie because it's more intricate with small details than your standard horror movie. That being said if she did not lead them to Frank they would have taken her automatically without hesitation. So they were watching the entire time just waiting to see what would happen. Also is it just me or did Pinhead or the Hell Priest his real name or title sound pissed off when he seen her father's body. Because normally he's common Collective But he sounded a little bit pissed when he said I want the man that did this. Because normally he does not speak in demands like that. He normally speaks in statements or normal sentences but never demands. Even before she closed the lament configuration on him he said. Don't do that he didn't say don't you dare do that. Because don't do that is a statement but don't you dare do that thats more of a command.
@@83shadow3 To answer your question yes, the Hell Priest was in fact livid because witnessing Kirsty's fathers corpse was confirmation that one of the residents from their dimension did escape from hell and seeing that the Cenobites by their own right appear to be wardens of hell, the idea that one of their prisoners might have outsmarted them probably was quite offensive to them.
@@victorewah2659 So I was not the only one to notice that small detail. Because that's another one that people seem to miss they just think they want Frank because he escaped. Which is true but he also killed someone that they are technically responsible for being killed. Because if they were keeping an eye on him he never would have escaped and that person her father would have lived. Because form my understanding from the other source material like the actual Novella and things. They directly don't go after other people only the ones that solve the Lamont configuration. But in this case someone died from someone escaping them so that would also piss them off. Because someone a innocent party died because they failed to keep an eye on one of their charges so to speak. They are not mad that he died they are mad because one of their charges killed him when he was supposed to be under their custody. I don't know if you know about the Hellraiser boom comics from Clive Barker. But they kind of go into that they are fine with people dying but if it's. One of their charges or one of them doing it and they did not solve Lament configuration there's a problem. Basically they keep order in hell so someone escaping and killing someone is chaos.
I need to watch the rest of this franchise. Recently read the original novella, “The Hellbound Heart”, it makes the Cenobites’ experience so much creepier. Hope you enjoyed it.

I watch alot of Reaction channels, particularly with films, and I must say your reactions are some of the most engaging and riveting to watch, there is a genuineness and film fascination in your demeanor and that is something that cannot be taught. I can easily see your channel blowing up at some point, all the correct ingredients are there ready to cook.
Yeah, for the make up, gore and creatures, but the hand drawn lightning effects in this movie are god awful. They and the the bad dubbing really dragged this down a bit even when it first came out.
Finally got round to watching this since being sick!! Another brilliant video 😂 Your face when he said come go daddy really made me laugh haha! Thank you once again!! ❤️❤️
Your videos bring me so much joy 😆 I love your catchphrases “Avert your gaze TH-camrs “ and “Something is amiss “ Let’s not forget “That’s the horror of this movie” I lose count of how many times I laugh from your reactions and jokes . Great job !
Doug Bradley is fantastic as Pinhead, "WE'LL TEAR YOUR SOUL APART!". He has a few great lines in the other movies too, but I wouldn't recommend going past Hellraiser 3 (maybe 4 at a push) as this series nosedives drastically after. Recommendations: The Descent (watch the UK version if possible), The Thing (1982), Halloween (1978), Scream (1996), The Conjuring 2, Annabelle (as you have that creepy doll in the corner!), Sinister, 28 Days Later, Poltergeist (1981), IT Follows, Alien (1979).
HEY ROBERTO!!! I got a notification you gave me a super thanks?? My first one!!! SUPER THANKS FROM ME TO YOU!!!! Hehehe. So glad you enjoyed Hellraiser:D
I've watched several of your reaction videos and the scariest thing in all of them is that creepy doll standing in the corner looking at you. I keep waiting to see it move . Haha. I love your reactions. Keep them coming.
This was hailed as "the greatest and most scariest horror movie, next to The Exorcist. Doug Bradley (Pinhead) never had prior acting experience before this as this movie launched his career as an icon in the horror community. Doug dawned the Pinhead for like 8 consecutive hellraiser movies.
Fun fact: I shared this tidbit on a different video about H.R. Giger's Influence. May it help anyone who finds this info worthy. Many are unaware of this tidbit but Clive Barker was and still is one of H.R. Giger's greatest fans. Prior to making the 1987's Hellraiser, Mr. Barker would frequent underground nightclub BDSM themed in the downtown area of Manhattan. This would setup the unique leather design to the Cenobites. But he did this to bring upon uniqueness to his movie and not "just carbon copy and paste another man's life's work without proper credit". Mr. Barker was enamored by Giger's works and obviously thanks in part to the 1979's Alien movie. The original Cenobites were actually going to be more "biomechanical" than "organic leathery attire". But along the way Mr. Barker did wanted to leave some of the core designs intact from Giger's works. As a way to pay homage to Mr. Giger's artistic inspiration. In fact Mr. Barker did show his Cenobites designs to H.R. giger to get feedback. Mr. Giger ultimately gave it the proverbial thumbs up. So yeah. The reality is the universe of Hellraiser was going to be more akin to biomechanical than leathery skin whatever. Edit: Forgot to add this tidbit. Mr. Barker did keep the chalky white skin for Pinhead and for the female Cenobite(s) in the first and subsequent films. Obviously paying homage to Giger's white and black airbrush works. Edit 2: Taking a step back to see the Cenobites as they are screams H.R. Giger's Necronomicon IV. Edit 3: Believe it or not the majority of the SFX teams for Hellraiser 1-4 went to go work 1997's Event Horizon. For many years people have drawn a strong conclusion that Event Horizon and Hellraiser share the same universe. Go watch Mr H Reviews video on and All Sewn Up video on it as well. Mr H Reviews brought his understanding about the connection and All Sewn Up did quite an extensive analysis of both films and basically how they relate more than it should because yeah The Leviathan is one scary freaking entity. And it's really freaking scary how The Gravity Drive looks 😳 way to much like The Lament Configuration. Both things opens up holes/gateways to another universe. Edit 4: Go watch HR Giger The Monster Maker by Blind Dweller. That's where I wrote my initial tidbit on the matter of Clive Barker's association with H.R. Giger. Edit 5: When I said more biomechanical than organic leather design I want the audience to see it this way, as in picture The Borgs from Star Trek The Next Generation or even more wildler The Zombified Cyborg Parents from Return of The Living Dead 4 Necropolis. Yeah somehow the Zombified Cyborg Parents are as close to the original design of Tne Cenobites. Go figure. Edit 6: The new Hellraiser 2022 is Clive Barker's original Cenobites biomechanical design(s). Back then in 1987 it was not really feasible due to budget constraints. Edit 7: Check out Tortured Souls: Animae Damnatae. All I can say is wow 👌
One of the best reactions I’ve seen…I love how jumpy you got and all the screaming…just what’s needed watching a horror movie. I really hope you’ll react to Hellbound: Hellraiser II👍🏼
Ah Kat…Welcome to the world of Pinhead, Cenobites and the sadomasochistic shock horror that is the Hellraiser franchise. They kind of "go to hell" after that one though. 3 is cheese. Bloodlines was ok for the origin of the box if nothing else. After it, they really go to hell's hell in a shopping cart with 4 defective wheels. You know the ones I mean. They squeak and bang along like it actually has flat tires or something and all the other shoppers hear you coming from a mile away and are so happy that you ended up with the dud instead of them that they can't help smirking as you rattle and bounce past them. I know this because I have been both the idiot with the crappy cart and the smirker at some point. The former being the reason for the latter. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 You can stick with just 1 and 2 and not really miss anything great.

Based on Barker's novella The Hellbound Heart. This film is highly effective. Pinhead is considered to be an insult and the character's name is Hell Priest. While making the film the cenobites had no names and were called in screenplay Cenobite 1, 2, 3, etc. The special effects crew came up with the names for them (Pinheadm Butterball, Chatterer). Julia, not Pinhead, was supposed to be the main villain.Pinhead's popularity changed that. I saw this in the theatre and it was unique.
This is one of my favourite horror movies and the fact that I share my name with the final girl has always been cool to me ( I'm older than the movie so I wasn't named after her)
Kat, I just recently discovered your channel, and I absolutely love watching you watch horror movies. As a big fan of horror movies myself, I would love for you to watch Hellraiser 2 Hellbound. It is, in my personal opinion, the best of the series. Good luck to you, and to your channel. 😊
My dad ripped his hand on a nail similar to that at the beginning of the movie. His hand was bleeding _profusely_ and it was laying open in 3 directions. I was in the bathroom when he came barging in, opened the medicine cabinet, and took out the bottle of Dr. Tichenors. If you're not familiar w/ that product, it's an antiseptic. He poured that shit right onto the wound and nearly passed out. That must've been like cauterizing it, or like putting fire to it.If you've ever put Dr. Tichenors on a cut, you know it burns like hell even it's just a scratch. I can't _imagine_ pouring it on an open wound.😩
This is so strange...I watched this film several times on HBO when it came out, and yet, I did not remember a single scene from it. LOL. Still, I loved your reaction. They are always great for a laugh! Keep up the good work. I'm still recommending A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place 2. I have a feeling you will actually like them!
Acupuncture gone wrong is in Final Destination 5. Love your great reactions to a great movie! Don't listen to the comments about sequels. They ALL suck compared to the original horror movies they were based upon! On that note, to hell with the comments if they can't be repectful and nice. You keep doing what you're doing because you're doing it beautifully! You've quickly become my favorite reaction channel on TH-cam! Best to you, Kat! ❤
Back in the day I was like 12 and I was babysitting my cousins, girls who were probably 8 and 7, and I suggested we watch Hellraiser 2. I thought we had a great time. Years later they revealed I had traumatized them and they couldn’t sleep for like a week😂

This is my all time favourite horror film, I loved your reaction to it. The sequel is well worth a watch, it starts only a few hours after this one ends.
One of my favorite movies from one of my favorite authors. (Great short story too) _Hellraiser_ wasn't the original title. Mr. Barker initially wanted to call it _Sadomasochists from Beyond the Grave_ but that got shot down quick XD However, he asked the cast and crew for suggestions. Story goes, one delightful lady raised her hand and suggested, "What a Woman Will Do for a Good F%*k." Eventually, they settled on _Hellraiser_ instead XD
Great pick! I wish someone would react to Hellraiser V - Inferno and Amityville 6 - It's About Time. Seriously, seriously underrated movies. Hellraiser II & III are also pretty good in my opinion.
Not long before this video, Pinhead became a playable character in the multiplayer horror-action game "Dead By Daylight". Doug Bradley returned to voice new versions of his most famous lines. It's a treat, he's a really fun character to play as.
I think this is the first film to which we've seen you react that isn't a jump-scare minefield, and I'm curious to see how you might respond going forward to horror films that aren't of this gimmick. There are plenty of tense, quality, well-directed and acted movies and TV shows that present horror elements but aren't of the sort of "Insidious" or "Drag Me to Hell" types that are all about the jump. In that vein, I suspect that you've already had several requests to react to the limited series "The Haunting of Hill House," which is a nice mix of some jumps but also marinating psychological horror/thriller with a great, dramatic family drama. I just think it's important to know that the horror genre is not always about some cat jumping from the shadows to startle you every 25 seconds.
In the book, they didn't go back on their deal. They got Frank and peaced out, and that was that. Also the sunglasses guy was the leader, with pinhead being just a lackey. I don't know why they changed it, but it works imo

Frank's resurrection stands to this day as one of the greatest special effects achievements in horror history.

Your reactions are awesome! Keep up the great work.
Thank you David!! And thanks for watching!!:D
"We have such sights to show you "one of my favorite lines from the movie second favorite quote we will tear your soul apart by pinhead I'm glad you enjoyed the movie it scared you a lot I watch this movie when I was 9 years old on accident and I had nightmares for 3 weeks it scared me to death now I think of it as a masterpiece for what it is I'm glad you enjoyed the movie I'm glad you survived
Kat's channel is quickly becoming my favorite. Love that fun personality watching classic horror films.
14:33 Kat: "She's good"
Clare Higgins - three times winner of the Olivier Award for Best Actress :-)
**gleefully** "He's gonna get murdered!"
You are so fun to watch.
Oh and the novella is amazing too! It’s a short read and worth it. I slept with the lights on for a few nights after finishing it.
I love the old 80s practical effects! So much better than CGI all the time. Takes true crafting :)
Shucks! My favorite line got clipped! When Kirstie realizes it's her Dad and Pinhead says, "We want the man who did this!" His delivery is epic.
Your videos bring me so much joy 😆
I love your catchphrases “Avert your gaze TH-camrs “ and “Something is amiss “ Let’s not forget “That’s the horror of this movie” I lose count of how many times I laugh from your reactions and jokes .
Great job !
The whole nervous shaking"he's gonna get murdered" part was the most adorable thing I've seen all day!
_Bloodline_ was pretty good. But not much use in going on after that, I’d agree.
love these old body horror movies that use practical effects 😊
Thanks!
"Oh, she's getting randoms. That's nice!" 🤣 That was great.
Kat, you’re awesome. I’d love to hear more of your thoughts afterwards, I’m sure others would love to hear you break it all down after watching. 😊
One of my favorite movies. I am very happy that you made a video.
Your reaction is so spot on, this was a great video!
I haven't seen this movie since it came out. It's almost like seeing it for the first time. Thank you, Kat for reacting to it.
"No tears please, it's a waste of good suffering"
One of the best reactions I’ve seen…I love how jumpy you got and all the screaming…just what’s needed watching a horror movie.
I really hope you’ll react to Hellbound: Hellraiser II👍🏼
Ah Kat…Welcome to the world of Pinhead, Cenobites and the sadomasochistic shock horror that is the Hellraiser franchise. Isn’t Clive Barker a happy-go-lucky ray of sunshine lol 😂 Plenty of these films and they get more graphic as they go on 🙄 Once again it’s a great reaction Kat☺️ and l look forward to your next upload (get that Patreon up and running)
My all time fave horror movie! This and Evil Dead, pretty much started the entire horrorcon/comicon movement!!
I highly recommend watching Hellraiser 2, it's a great sequel and expands on the first one and establishes some of the mythology
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You can stick with just 1 and 2 and not really miss anything great.
@@SlayerO013 I agree. Hellraiser 1 and 2 feel like two parts of one movie.
I would recommend watching The Descent - a really good British horror movie from 2005 about cave exploration.
I'll second that!
Yes!
Dog Soldiers another good British one :)
Thought Kat already did that one
I accidentally found your channel earlier today and I have binged 5 of your episodes so far and am loving your content girl!! You're charming and funny, and your reactions are great! You should watch The evil dead! It is an older classic from Dam Raimi. I am lookkng forward to a lot more of your videos!😁❤
Love your reactions to scary movies even though you don't like them!🤣🤣 love your channel, keep up the great work!
I have met Clive twice, he did a reading of Cabal aka Nightbreed in Berkeley, Ca., signed my Books of Blood...great day.
I love your reactions, I laugh way too hard when you scream at the littlest things lol. Keep it up!
This is one of my favourite horror movies and the fact that I share my name with the final girl has always been cool to me ( I'm older than the movie so I wasn't named after her)
TH-cam has been suggesting your channel for a few weeks now so I watched one. Glad I did your reactions are great! More subs are coming keep it up!
I can't say enough how much I love your reactions! Lol so entertaining to see you so immersed!
"Your suffering will be legendary. Even in hell". This is a classic for me. I grew up on 80s/90s horror. Glad to watch it with you.
That line isn't even from this movie though 😂
@nossenkanter5525 lol I know. Whenever I see Pinhead, I think of that line right away.
26:40 funnily enough the actual prop was made of wood just with some metal paneling on the outside.
9:10 “she’s gonna get randoms. That’s nice.”
Unless you’re one of the randoms.
What was it like in the set of Mollys Game?
I loved two things in this movie : the awesome soundtrack , and the concept and design of the puzzle box
22:32 made me laugh we heard it then it shows. Always goes. I enjoy your reactions!
“This is the price of love, and we respect it.”
Speak for yourself, Julia is evil. 🤣
Free lipgloss. 🤣
Kat, I just recently discovered your channel, and I absolutely love watching you watch horror movies. As a big fan of horror movies myself, I would love for you to watch Hellraiser 2 Hellbound. It is, in my personal opinion, the best of the series. Good luck to you, and to your channel. 😊
The music during Frank’s resurrection is amazing. I have it on rotation in my playlist. Nice waltz.
I'm not sure you hate horror movies anymore Kat. You had a lot of fun with Hellraiser.
The latest Hellraiser film is interesting. Truly horrific costumes and props, and Jamie Clayton is an absolutely perfect Cenobite
I love your reactions so much. Thank you so much for watching my favorite horror movie ♥
I just found your channel...amazing reaction..instant subscribe!!!!!!!!!!
Top tier horror movie and great reaction!
Julia should have convinced "Slimy Frank" to grow his dingy back first.
Return of the Living Dead (1985)
Greatest Zombie Movie of ALL TIME !!!
What if THE ADAM'S FAMILY got a hold of Pinhead's puzzle box? I betcha we'd see Morticia with a kinky lil smile on her.😅
Angelique, basically...Hellraiser's Bride of Pinheadstein, Elvira, Morticia etc...
the thing 1982. you are gonna love it😀
You my dear always make this old hippy smile. Have you watched Amityville Horror yet? The original version and the re-make are both cool. ✌
Thank you for making my shitti day better xox love your videos. Thank you for your energy x. Keep up the amazing work xox
The "Creepy Man" who follows Kirsty around and eats/steals the crickets is played by the writer/director, Clive Barker.
Back in the day I was like 12 and I was babysitting my cousins, girls who were probably 8 and 7, and I suggested we watch Hellraiser 2. I thought we had a great time. Years later they revealed I had traumatized them and they couldn’t sleep for like a week😂
Love the line by Pinhead, I will tear your soul apart.😱😱 The pierced people. That's gold.😂😂😂😂
This was a great video! Very fun to watch. Hey! You might like the very scary sci-fi movie Event Horizon. Looking forward to the next one!
i cant believe they rate the exorcist as a horror film honestly I laughed so hard at the theater my mom got concerned i was like 5 i think ive always loved horror films btw new subscriber here love the channel
This is my all time favourite horror film, I loved your reaction to it. The sequel is well worth a watch, it starts only a few hours after this one ends.
In a completely different country.
Your channel is taking off. Awesome
You are hilarious 😆
One of my favorite movies from one of my favorite authors. (Great short story too)
_Hellraiser_ wasn't the original title.
I was rolling when you said he wasn't gonna make it ... too funny. And ease up on my beloved eighties =)
If I remember correctly in the stories Barker wrote the daughter from this movie eventually enda up becoming a cenobite.
NIghtbreed is another good Clive Barker movie with some crazy character design.
Kirsty picks up the lament configuration, Frank "give me that!" Kirsty "No!" It's like he's never met a teenager before...
"he's not a bad guy..." oh my sweet summer child
Your reaction through the Jumpscares are the Sweetest Thing lol😂
Ashley Laurence who played Kirsty is a very sweet lady. Definitely one of my favorite final girls.
My first boyfriend loved Clive Barker. We even went to an exhibit of his work in LA.
Excellent reaction. Please do Night Breed next! Also by Clive Barker, very different kind of film.
Watched hellraiser for the first time just so i can follow because your reactions to horror movies; priceless
Clive Barker is always a trip...his stories usually don't make a ton of sense, but they make up for it in style.
"The pierced people" 😂 Cute!
Practical effects done right.
In the book, they didn't go back on their deal. They got Frank and peaced out, and that was that. Also the sunglasses guy was the leader, with pinhead being just a lackey. I don't know why they changed it, but it works imo
Watched a few of your reactions ..... you and your reactions are funny as heck .... new sub. Keep on watching horror movies.
20:02 my favorite quote, real goosebumps
Omg Kat. This is a movie I have been avoiding because it looks so nasty and gross, but you gave me the push I needed to watch it. Love your British accent lol. Hope you are doing well.
