Thank you DD, glad someone shares my hatred for this movie, Gary is a hack, he made himself the star and he took a dump on the Hellraiser mythos. From the start of the movie I thought how are the cenobites in the world? Does not someone need to open the box first? They are just there turning a house into useless torture place? WTF. Revelation was bad, but at least it stole the concept from the mythos, but this movie. No, simply no!
I like gary from the interviews i've seen on youtube, especially on Mr. H's channel, but i agree that this one is even worse than Revelations. Although, i totally respect that he could get it done with 350,000. The dude is a hard worker and a a solid make-up artist. That doesn't mean mean he's a good filmmaker. He should just stick to what he's good at, terrible movie.
i've been waiting for you to add this one to the list since the night it was released, almost like i needed a reputable source of good taste to justify my hatred for what i had witnessed.
I'd like to add the budget was either so low they couldn't afford gloves for the detectives poking around the crime scenes, or the makers didn't give enough of a sh*t to bother.
My question: If Pinhead was exiled wouldn't he of been reverted to his Captain Spenser form? I mean we did the reveal in 2 and split in 3. Wouldn't he be sent to his own compartmentalized Hell? Sending him back to Earth would of had a repeat of his "evil" being released . Also it negates the ending laid out in 4 (not that 4 is something we want to remember). I won't even go into how this shits on Scarlet Gospel (that I personally disliked, but that's my opinion). How has Pinhead gone so far down the fecel rabbit hole that even Clive Barker forgot the original meaning of his own character? Sorry I'm ranting.
This movie is basically hellraiser 5 told in a way eerily similar way to hellraiser 9, but in the false guise of innovation to satisfy an ego. Definitely a big Nono there.
Hmmm just watched the short finally, and that honestly would have been a cool idea for a Hellraiser film. I mean it still makes heaven and hell part of the mythos, but as even Barker himself decided that should be a thing they could try to veer it back with the angle of Cenobites being separate from both, perhaps a race that contains both daemons and angels bored of just pleasure or pain and seeking to combine them, and becoming worse than either side in the process.
I can give you one post-hoc reasoning why the porn site at 17:00 had a law compliance notice: From what I understand from a couple lawyer buddies, its much better to break the law one at a time. Basically: don't speed with a broken tail light; Don't prostitute with a couple baggies of coke on yourself. Honestly, I really hope that is the reasoning, because if so its funny as fuck.
The biggest problem the first Hellraiser movie had was being called Hellraiser...... because it means idiots think it has to do with Hell.... I'm sad now.
WarPoodle 2600 the original story that Clive Barker wrote that was then made into the first Hellraiser movie was called The Hell Bound Heart so it still had the word hell in the title.
When it comes to Hellraiser Judgement, that Heather Langenkamp appearance really altered the story and she played quite the vital role in this film. Wow! Truth be told, Barbara Crampton played a more important role in the original Puppet Master movie. That says a lot about how much they wasted her in whatever this film was supposed to be. I never cared for the Hellraiser franchise but I did check out all of the Hellraiser reviews on this channel because I was curious as to what Deusdaecon Reviews thought of the films as a whole. Watching his movie reviews isn't a bad way to spend an evening if you have some time to spare.
I remember watching this and thinking "How is any of this Hellraiser?, this sucks!" And while I'm commenting that dog should have died. I didn't think dogs could survive things like being sewn into the inside of someone, I think it would hard for it breathe in there. I love dogs by the way (no, not that way) wasn't saying because I hate dogs (I don't) I was just pointing out something that just makes no sense to me.
I googled Not a wallet, a pack of cards or a cycle bell' to see what would come up. Which was the kickstarter, and backerkit. This quote will forever haunt me.
What astounded me was how they recycled all the tropes from the previous failed Hellraiser films. It was like a hodge podge of mediocrity. Evil stitched to stitched evil, a travesty of its former glory. And then they brought in the internet like a lot of these "Noveau" social media horror films. (fans don't want cyber-Hellraiser anymore than they wanted it in space) The box was never meant for everyone. It was meant for only those with the strongest desire who would seek it out for a new experience. The cenobites had no interest in bargain basement villains. They wanted souls with the greatest desire. This film clearly lost sight of it. If you take your most avid collector they will go through great lengths to acquire objects of interest. Internet or not.
Listening to Gary tunicliffes series of interviews... I feel like he still never understood what hellraiser was. Yes he made that short, which looks great but he makes pinhead age from not torturing. What. That concept alone I think makes the mystery of these “explorers” completely mute. And seeing this movie... wow this guy really talks himself up way too much
Now that we're so close to the new _'Hellraiser'_ with actress Jamie Clayton as *Pinhead,* it'd be great to get your thoughts, and your opinions on the photos that've been released in the last few days.
I don't hate the new pinhead design. An interesting change that its a combination of Pinhead and the female cenobite, personally though I would've liked something new or perhaps closer to the original idea in the novella, but ultimately as I said to someone else hellraiser regardless of studio, director, production change, has squandered the privilege of mine or anyone else's hype, ill shall wait and see but until it's out and we know for sure, I refuse to but energy into caring about it.
So I've changed my mind a bit since my original post when this video was first put up and I think I do agree with this video more than I originally did. I'll cut Tunnicliff a little slack in places for low budget, but the script needed a lot of help, Angels have no place in the series and the gross out horror was over done, and poor, poor dog. But the main thing that changed my mind is Mr H's exploration of the unused Hellraiser remake script and revisiting The Scarlet Gospels, both written by Clive Barker. If they're going to make another Hellraiser, I sincerely hope that they go with either of those as sources, especially if there's an insistence on using Angels in the script. The Scarlet Gospels shows how to do that right in this universe. Anyway, just wanted to get this out there.
I thought the hell house thing was pretty cool, exploring new ideas of how hell operates (I had the sense that pinhead had been put there as a temporary supervisory position because of Cliver Barkerian hell bureaucracy rather than this was replacing his old gig) but the movie still stunk.
That whole instead of box system raises so many questions... I mean lets assume the idea is that they need to get people to admit what they did wrong as a rule from Heaven and the auditor guy only has an idea if you did something, in that case what happens if they get somebody who is innocent or they never admit it? do they wipe their mind somehow? how would they know everybody is going to admit it? How the hell did the box function in that system before if it needs replacing with this now? Theres probably a billion other questions, but those are the surface level of what the hell.
i for the last 3 days watched all these hellraiser reviews and i got to say thank "jesus" its over the first one look great but oh it just went down hill so fast it shot through the earth when it hit the bottom
TheSpawnfan Apparently, (and this came from somewhere within the 3hr interview and can only be verified by herself) she read the original script, expressed interest because it was "some weird, frwaky shit"if i can recall properly, but the movie had neither a role or the budget to fit her in. Hence a cameo. As to why she appears so high on the list in IMDB has to do with someone's popularity apparently.
0:35 to 0:40 => Hah. If ever there was a good way to sum up how this series fell pretty much ever since the third movie. It's like the same trajectory of downfall that the Highlander movies had, with the exception of the second being pretty much as bad as the last one.
Maaaaaan. You're the best! Thank you so much for saving me the time and energy. I thought going into this. I'd be like "Hey, atleast it's not as bad as Revelations or Hellworld". It's sooooo much worse. Just cause the effects are better. Doesn't make the movie more tolerable. The Heather Langenkamp 5 cameo alone would've gotten me pissed off in investing a millisecond of my time. Fuck this movie!
I was and am aware but it just seemed abit unnesecery really cause cause I pointed all this bullshit and details and things and in the script it was like "oh hes also played by the director" just something about it stood out to me as superfluous, admittedly It couldve been my writing as im not a very good writer but thats why it was removed from the the final version of the video.
@@deusdeaconReviews Fair enough I don't know I guess it felt to me like that's something you would bring up as like another example of like his arrogance and hubris that he believes himself that he was a director that but he puts himself in one of the main character roles further establishing this as his vanity project.
yeah very true, I guess because i mention his failed indiegogo and how he was the same charachter in that too, it never really clicked as something to mention cause in a way i had, I know it doesnt make sense like i said I’m a bad writer heh

Love your channel, only found you recently and I'm so glad I did! I'm making my way through your older reviews at present and I'm yet to find one I didn't enjoy, even if I'm not a fan of that particular film! It's great you're doing the H. P. Lovecraft based films as I'm a huge fan of his work. Great reviews and it really shows that you research the films you feature. Will you be doing Harbinger Down? I'd be love to hear your thoughts on it. Keep up the great work!
ah that would be a interesting film to see reviewed. that movie I was looking forward too for quite awhile being an all practical effects movie like in the old days. however, for me anyway, it turned out to be a massive disappointment. bad writing, forgettable characters, shaky cam (seriously I HATE it when filmmakers do that). the monster designs were kinda cool I guess, when you can see them. and Lance Henrikson was good as always. overall it just wasn't what I thought it would be and it only made me appreciate films like John Carpenter's The Thing even more than I already do. but that's just me
There are things I love about Harbinger Down as well as things I hate about it! Its a shame the guys at Studio ADI got screwed over when it came to The Thing prequel. It would be great to see them do a film properly funded to see if it turns out good or not!
TurnipGoat yeah I heard about the practical effects they used for The Thing prequel and they did look good. Too bad the higher ups stepped in to CGI everything. And boy the CGI was not very good. Again tho despite my disliking of Harbinger Down credit where credit is due. When you Could see the creature effects, they did look impressive. I do hope they continue making more movies just with better writing and camerawork because it's a shame we don't see practical effects as much anymore
same however CGI isn't necessarily the problem. it's how it's used. at the end of the day CG is just a tool and it's up to the artists, animators, filmmakers etc.. to use the CG appropriately. sadly alot of them would rather just CG everything. I feel it's best when BOTH styles of effects work in tandem with each other
I still think the first chapter of the hell bound heart is the best description of the cenobites. They’re not evil they will fuck you up but it’s consensual and they don’t see it as something bad but mind opening.
I'm unfamiliar with the Prophecy series, but the ending with Pinhead being banished back to mortality is a pretty cool twist. Glad I could watch this crap vicariously through your reviews without suffering through it myself though xD
7:20 - .... Oh.. how the name _Hellraiser_ has fallen from the first movie.. watching all these reviews is just... so depressing. Like, imagine replacing all of this, with Jason Vorhees instead. That's even worse... 10:58 - LOL 16:30 - Clearly she's paid by the second. Great reviews, all of them.
Bro I didn’t even think they were making anymore after the shit that was Hellraiser 9, I feel so bad for everyone waiting for a real hellraiser after the first 2
I dont know, I have not seen it, its not available in the uk yet, so wouldnt beable to make a video on it anyway, and im currently focusing on my degree, not say there wont be any videos in the future, but with the new hellraiser theres alot of things making it diffcult to say the least.
I think Jesus wept and then had to go on holiday, to get over this film. There was some good elements in it but then it became very convuluted. Even Pinhead looked like he was having a holiday by doing absolutely nothing.
The reboot of Hellraiser (which Clive Barker is producing) is just a month away from when this post is written. I don’t know about you but I’m very optimistic.
Clive wrote the scarlet gospels. His involvement does not guarantee a decent product; as far as I'm concerned, there's no reason to ever be optimistic about a hellraiser production. They've squandered that privilege many times over.
@@deusdeaconReviews Eh, I say give it a chance. I know we’re talking about a franchise that’s been in the shit for thirty years, but now it’s no longer in the hands of those greedy Weinstein pigs. @@tulsibeepat3453 Wait... is she still good though? Is this like Ghostrider overthrowing Mephisto?
Yeah this Pinhead has nothing to do with the previous versions, It was intended as a soft reboot of the series, ugh!
Deusdaecon Reviews More like Sad Reboot.
lets split the difference and call it a sad flaccid reboot
Barker hates this film. The tag was "from the mind of Clive Barker". Barker replied back that it "didn't even come out of my asshole".
This movie is basically hellraiser 5 told in a way eerily similar way to hellraiser 9, but in the false guise of innovation to satisfy an ego. Definitely a big Nono there.
Always a fun day when one of your videos pops up in my subs!
i love this channel
Thank you
Hmmm just watched the short finally, and that honestly would have been a cool idea for a Hellraiser film.
Not to mention that in the Scarlet Gospels Pinhead (the Hell Priest) fought Lucifer (the ruler of Hell).
Yes! So glad you came back to review this! :D
Also, I have a funny little theory that Deusdaecon's name is Deusdaecon Ex Oblivione Machina. XD
This movie was made for you as punishment for delaying in making a review on RE: The Final Chapter☺
who knows it may only be one or TWO videos away.
LoL That's quite the punishment
I remember watching this and thinking "How is any of this Hellraiser?, this sucks!" And while I'm commenting that dog should have died. I didn't think dogs could survive things like being sewn into the inside of someone, I think it would hard for it breathe in there. I love dogs by the way (no, not that way) wasn't saying because I hate dogs (I don't) I was just pointing out something that just makes no sense to me.
I googled Not a wallet, a pack of cards or a cycle bell' to see what would come up. Which was the kickstarter, and backerkit.
This quote will forever haunt me.
We got a teaser and release date for the new Hellraiser. We may need you again.
Waiting for your review of the new “Hellraiser”!
What astounded me was how they recycled all the tropes from the previous failed Hellraiser films. It was like a hodge podge of mediocrity. Evil stitched to stitched evil, a travesty of its former glory. And then they brought in the internet like a lot of these "Noveau" social media horror films. (fans don't want cyber-Hellraiser anymore than they wanted it in space)
The box was never meant for everyone.
Not to mention they might the tv possibly coming
Thank you for that, I really appreciate you coming back cause i know an initial reaction to something can change dramatically overtime.
Theres probably a billion other questions, but those are the surface level of what the hell.
i for the last 3 days watched all these hellraiser reviews and i got to say thank "jesus" its over
the first one look great but oh it just went down hill so fast it shot through the earth when it hit the bottom
Glad to see a new video lad!
@20:28 huh... in the scene with the dead girls.. they arnt wearing their underware mentioned earlier, I wonder why?
how did they get Nancy Thompson from A Nightmare on Elm Street (Heather Langerkamp) to be in this?
TheSpawnfan Apparently, (and this came from somewhere within the 3hr interview and can only be verified by herself) she read the original script, expressed interest because it was "some weird, frwaky shit"if i can recall properly, but the movie had neither a role or the budget to fit her in. Hence a cameo. As to why she appears so high on the list in IMDB has to do with someone's popularity apparently.
She looks drunk off her ass here, and for good reason.
I liked this one better than revelations but thats thw same as saying i prefer solid dumps vs diareaha
0:35 to 0:40 => Hah. If ever there was a good way to sum up how this series fell pretty much ever since the third movie. It's like the same trajectory of downfall that the Highlander movies had, with the exception of the second being pretty much as bad as the last one.
watching you trudge through these films gives me life
It's been months since I've seen one of this guy's videos and he's still this underrated ? Lol
I prefer rare like a fine wine.
The original Hellraiser was horrific. Hellraiser: Judgement just makes you feel bad inside.
A good filmmaker knows the difference between the two.
I'm surprised you didn't point out that the director inserted himself into his own film because tunicliff was the one who played the auditor.
Yep. Saw it, was puzzled by it and realized it HAS to be FINALLY over!
Oh look, a nightmare in given to us in the middle of the night (U.S.)! Lovely.
And to think.... all this from a short story and an illustration by Clive Barker. Titled "The Hell Bound Heart".
*sigh*
Arwan Rhys and to think... I hesitated
Spacey might be a creep but was great in seven
May I confess that I thought Tunnicliffe gave a good performance as the Auditor?
He definitely did....but unfortunately, almost everything else about the film is incredibly derivative of other (better) movies. ☹️😕 👍🏾
ive seen decker shado's review of Hellraiser: Judgement now i will see
Deusdaecon Reviews on it
Mr. deacon I am so sorry you had to go through all this pain for us.
To me, the cenobites where supposed to be that feeling you get when you want to just eat raw beef when you’re hungry enough, a primal feeling that we don’t give into, not sexual, but something else, too bad those cenobites don’t exist anymore
You know, there was supposed to be a netflix hellraiser series ;3 after this flick it vanished. hard. the pinhead looked goofier than fuck too
So I just applied to be a Tarot Reader at a horror con where the actor who played Pinhead in this film is going to be a guest and it’s going to take all my willpower not to refer to Hellraiser: Judgement as “Diet Hellraiser” or “Hellraiser La Croix” if people start talking about this one around me. XD
Pray for me....
So how did that work out?
@@jsb6975.ah.crapbaskets He ended up having to cancel the appearance actually.
@@SneakyCoyoteProductions well on the bright side that solved your problem.
Hey now.
La Croix knows what it is and just is what it is, it's not missing the point of anything else and using that thing to prop itself up. 😹
This movie looks atrocious and not in a good way.
Your enthusiasm is priceless, my guy.😂😂😂
Agreed! I hated the whole CGI revolution when practical effects all but disappeared! Here's hoping we get some good stuff in the future from them!
same however CGI isn't necessarily the problem. it's how it's used. at the end of the day CG is just a tool and it's up to the artists, animators, filmmakers etc.. to use the CG appropriately. sadly alot of them would rather just CG everything.
I can't wait for Hellraiser: XI Space Battle with Freddy & Jason.
Pinhead has already done space though....
Thats is huge news at the end there. What a ripp off!
7:20 - .... Oh.. how the name _Hellraiser_ has fallen from the first movie.. watching all these reviews is just... so depressing.
Like, imagine replacing all of this, with Jason Vorhees instead. That's even worse...
10:58 - LOL
16:30 - Clearly she's paid by the second.
Great reviews, all of them.
Hang on.. 9:56... They misspelt judgement...
At the end of the opening credits i was expecting to hear you get me closer to god
"and they proclaim the guy is guilty... Which is something I could have fucking told ya!" - brilliant line, love it
You know it's almost impressive, I can't think of another series whose sequels are consistently worse than the film that preceded it.
Resident Evil is one
@@cjw41 that one got so bad it had to have been intentional by the end.
Holy cow! You said everything I was thinking. I was beside myself in anger.
Im just glad I'm not the only one.
Bro I didn’t even think they were making anymore after the shit that was Hellraiser 9, I feel so bad for everyone waiting for a real hellraiser after the first 2
To me, Hellraiser is not Hellraiser without Clive Barker and as soon as he was kicked off of the series during part IV, it all went to shit.
You know who I am! I am JUGDEMENT BOY
Judgement Boy or Judgement Boy Gold?
luketfer hmmmmmmmmm
Onion boi :p
Are there going to be a review for the 2022 hellraiser? Love your reviews
I dont know, I have not seen it, its not available in the uk yet, so wouldnt beable to make a video on it anyway, and im currently focusing on my degree, not say there wont be any videos in the future, but with the new hellraiser theres alot of things making it diffcult to say the least.
@@deusdeaconReviews roger that !
From what I heard of this film I made a good call watching this before breakfast and not during.
indeed you did
I think Jesus wept and then had to go on holiday, to get over this film. There was some good elements in it but then it became very convuluted. Even Pinhead looked like he was having a holiday by doing absolutely nothing.
Love your reviews...and your accent 😄
Nice. When I saw it in the stores I knew it was only a matter of time
The crime scene looks like something Batman comes upon. Before the cops shows up.
The Joker from " Death of The Family " opens the Box.
Pinhead " But, what will be the point ?"
Cant wait to see more of the suffering i love ur channel honestly thanks for the content!
My favourite book, Don Coyote.
Love your reviews bro. Partially because I love your accent lol
I appreciate that, there gonna be another narration uploaded next week, if you wish to hear more of the accent heh
Hellraiser
What a mess of a franchise it has become
Daimon Atkins oh how true and how sad… 😿
The series took a major hit when Clive Barker was kicked off the series during IV.
Does this feel like it's trying to rip off Saw?
Hulu already revived the Predator franchise with Prey, who’s to say they might not accomplish this again.
They even have a good horror director at the helm, one who’s a hardcore fan of the original Hellraiser AND the novella.
Ill probably see it, but i refuse to get hyped for anything like this, no expectations no dispointments, and we can only judge an unreleased product by its past, yes the production has changed but it doesnt matter i will always tell people not to get hyped for these kinds of things.
@@deusdeaconReviews The trailer for the new Hellraiser just came out, and I swear I'm not exaggerating, the trailer by itself is better than Hellraiser 3-10!
It genuinely creeped me out, especially the new Pinhead and it looks like they're doing something crazy with the puzzle box.
I don't know if you still have your doubts, but I truly believe this will be that great (or at least passionately made) Hellraiser film that we should've gotten decades ago!
People keep saying this to me, and I just don't see it, I have a whole twitter thread on my impressions of the trailer, but in brief, didnt impress me, looked like a hellraiser themed hostel, The box cutting people when they solve it is the stupidest idea possible, good music, good pinhead design, wait and see yes I have my doubts.
