I was in SLC on business for months, so I read the book of Mormon and go see Temple square, etc. The book of Mormon reads like some guy made up the stuff in a bar and he got some of the other guys in the bar to jump in on the game. Smith took it a step further and figured that he could run it long and some would follow him. The rest is history.

I've seen these two types of exmormons: the ones who become extremely hedonistic and liberal, and the ones who want to know the truth and study what Christianity truly is. That was my case, at first I was angry with the church because I felt "scammed" by it, but in my heart I knew I was Christian, so I started to study the Bible and Christian history. It took me around 3-4 years to discover Orthodoxy after leaving mormonism. At first, I was lurking in evangelical or protestant movements, and I almost visited a Baptist and a Pentecostal church during my learning journey, but I finally found Orthodoxy, the ultimate truth. It's going to be two years since I baptized in June, and I still struggle and argue with my mormon family about it, but we have managed to find peace and live together.

    • @RatSplatigan

You are correct. I was raised Mormon and when I left the church I became a hedonistic atheist. Glory to God I found Orthodoxy and was baptized 3 years ago. Unfortunately the ones who leave Mormonism and stay religious tend to end up evangelical once saved always saved bible thumpers.

@dylanwilliams2202 that makes zero sense. Let me break it down.
Christ started a Church. This Church was led by the Apostles. Christ promises the Holy Spirit would guide this Church in "all" truth and always be with them.
Apostles appointed bishops. The line continued unbroken. There is no need for a 'restoration', because God is not a liar and guides His Church.
Any attempt to claim the Church became apostate ignores the above points. There is zero, I mean zero, ways to call God a liar when the Church has the promise of Christ that the gates of hell would never prevail against the Church and that the Holy Spirit would lead it in all Truth. Because if they apostasized, they were not led in all Truth and hell prevailed, if even for a time.

    • @dylanwilliams2202
      @dylanwilliams2202 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@MajorMustang1117 I swear, you all say the same old horrible arguments that are so easily refutable.
You are completely misquoting Matthew 16:18. That is saying that the gates of hell wouldn't prevail against the rock who is Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 10:4), not the Church. Hence why it says “and on this rock (Jesus Christ) I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” This has shown to have been the case because 1 Peter 3:19 tells of Christ going in and teaching to spirits in prison that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. (1 Peter 4:6) and that preaching is still happening today because every knee will bow and confess Jesus is Lord (Philippians 2:10-11) on judgment day. You could also say that it was the testimony of Jesus Christ that Peter had with the context, "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock (Peter's testimony) I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.", which is what a lot of the Early Church Fathers said it meant. The gates of hell did not prevail because Jesus Christ broke through the bands of death and hell and his gospel went into hell like a rock smashing through a gate. The gates of hell are *gates* not a person or entity and those *gates* did not prevail against Christ. Even if I were to entertain the idea of it talking of the Church then it still would hold true because the gates of hell didn't prevail against the Church because the Church came back.
I am not sure what you are referencing unless it's John 16:13, which doesn't really make sense in this context.
_"Apostles appointed bishops"_ Bishops are not apostles nor were the Apostles Bishops. Ignatius of Antioch, the bishop of Antioch around 100-108 AD, recognized that bishops are not apostles. In his epistle to the Trallians he wrote, “Let all reverence the deacons as Jesus Christ, and the bishop as the Father; and the presbyters [elders] as the Sanhedrin of God, and college of the apostles. Without these, there is no church.” Then he wrote, “I will not write any more sharply unto you about this matter, lest being a condemned man, I should seem to prescribe to you as an apostle.” Here, Ignatius makes the distinction of his office and was careful not to overstep the bounds of his authority because despite him being a bishop, he was no apostle and he knew it. No one back then ever equated Bishops as Apostles.
Only apostles could ordain bishops. Clement of Rome, a bishop of Rome from 88 A.D. to 99 AD, according to the early Christian writer, Tertullian. “The apostles have preached the gospel to us from the Lord Jesus. Therefore, sent forth by God and the apostles by Christ. Both these appointments then were made in an orderly way, according to the will of God. Having therefore received their orders, they appointed the first-fruits of their labors having first proved them by the Spirit to be bishops.” Clement of Alexandria, 150 to 215 A.D, speaks of John the apostle directing the overall church and appointing bishops in smaller geographical areas. He says “From when after the tyrant’s death, he returned from the isle of Patmos to Ephesus, he went away upon their invitation to the neighboring territories of Gentiles to appoint bishops in some places, in other places to set in order whole churches, elsewhere to choose to the ministry someone of those that were pointed out by the Spirit.” These two both tell of apostles being the ones to appoint bishops. Bishops didn’t start to appoint themselves until later and these appointments were an overstep of their office and authority. Once the last bishop who was called by an apostle died then there was no more authority to run the Church as a whole left on earth.
Sure, some of the teachings still on... for a while. Tell me, why don't you believe in 3 degrees of glory? Because Papius, Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, Origen and more all did? Or the Harrowing of Hades? Or that there is an order to seeing God? These were all things preached until they weren't.
Now, We know more apostles were called from Acts 1:26 with Matthias and with Paul and Barnabas being called apostles in Acts 14:14 and Paul introducing himself as an apostle of the Lord in all his letters and saying He was *ordained* an Apostle in 1 Timothy 2:7. Ephesians 2:20 says the church is built on the foundation of apostles and prophets with Jesus Christ being the cornerstone. Paul is saying that the priesthood foundation of the household of God includes apostles and prophets with Jesus Christ being the cornerstone. Ignatius of Antioch wrote “Let all reverence the deacons as Jesus Christ, and the bishop as the Father; and the presbyters [elders] as the Sanhedrin of God, and college of the apostles. Without these, there is no church.” In other words, in God’s and Jesus Christ’s true church there will be apostles and prophets found. The reverse is also true, a church without apostles and prophets is not the true church of God and Jesus Christ. This has been true since the apostles died, not just the church from 33 AD till around 120 AD. To say otherwise goes against the Bible and God’s word. Once having Apostles or Apostolic authority ~2000 years ago means nothing now since you don’t have them or it anymore.

7th day Adventists are kind of on the edge. I think some of them can be real Christians, but the radical ones are questionable at best, probably heretics at worst. They basically believe in Saturday Sabbath and take it extra seriously, believing that it actually had its own spiritual significance rather than just a church tradition, almost like a God literally marked a date on the calendar where He's more available. Kind of weird, but not outright heretical there. The issue is when the radicals believe that Sunday worship is the mark of the beast and anyone who worships on Sunday (IE the majority of Christians) are condemned. I think Ben Carson believes this, but I'm not totally sure. You'll have to double check me on this.
The other major concern is that they used to follow a false prophetess, Ellen G. White, whose prophecies did not come true. As such, most of them have denounced her, but the radicals still hold to many of her teachings. She also was adamant about reading the 7 days of Creation literally, I think. Otherwise, 7th Day Adventists have American Protestant background, so take from that what you will.

The catechumenate is on average, 1 year in length. This can be adjusted to a shorter time or longer time depending on the circumstances and maturity of the individual, at the priests discretion. The funny thing is Pope Gregory the Great would agree that the universal jurisdiction and the infallibility is not of God.
The doctrine and monarchical structure of the Trinity is very consistent in the orthodox faith. The Roman Catholic Church undeniably had an evolution of doctrine and beliefs. The part that turns me off about it the most is their apologetics to defend it is just as bad and snaky as Mormon apologetics.

Epistemologically speaking Roman saints and popes shouldn’t contradict each other but many of them do. The apologetics to try and justify the contradictions are just as weak as the Mormon apologetics for prophet contradictions. I also think the argument for monarchal Trinitarianism that the orthodox follow (along with the energy essence distinction) makes more sense and refutes atheism better in general.

Perhaps not infallibility but supremacy can be seen in patristics and councils alike. Petrine supremacy/ authority was understood and explained by many to be handed down within the institution. It’s not completely unreasonable for papal infallibility to be a developed/ more implicit doctrine throughout history. Also I think a great argument also is just the continuation of the power structure of the Davidic kingdom- see Scott Hahn.
And for contradictions, it’s perfectly within reason that saints and popes can and do contradict. The church fathers contradict eachother in a lot of places. But these saints aren’t infallible, and the pope is not infallible in everything he says.

I came to atheism really early in my life (I already considered myself agnostic at like 10 and atheist at 12) because as a kid I had a faith crisis and mormonism hadn't any way of refuting those doubts as it's ""theology""" is extremely inconsistent if not downright ridiculous. It has been a long way of searching for truth via philosophy, science and what not and I've recently came to the conclusion that Orthodoxy is the way. I'm looking forward to getting baptized in the Orthodox Church but unfortunately for me the Church is pretty much non-existent in my country (Mexico) and I'm not old enough nor economically stable enough to travel to another country on my own. We were created for community, and being connected to a solid church body is essential for growth and having fellow believers support you in times of need and help you when you fall. If you have the Internet, try to search online for churches nearby. I think we can all agree that a solid church is better than heresy, even if it's not perfect. Still, aim for the best church you can find.

      @@Suopt312 a few things.
      1. The church willingly misuses tithing money and has been found out recently about how they do that they've been taken to court by the US goverment for lying about their finances.
      2. One of questions for a temple recommend are about if you pay tithing regularly meaning you can't participate in what are "salvific works " "according to Mormons "
So you are denied salvation without paying in a sense.
      3. Yes you can choose not to but you are denied certain things and pressured if you choose not to.
Are you familiar with the BITE model ?
      Behaviour , information , thought , emotional.
It's methods used by cults to control people .
behaviour- rigid rules , rewards and punishments , control of physical environment.
So applies to mormonism in temples , words of wisdom , etc
Information - deception , propaganda, discourage access to outside information , insider outsider doctrine.
      Mormonism meets all of these
Deception/propaganda - the church lies about how it spendss it's money and how much money it has ( proven by the fine from the FCC and the court case )
Also lies about doctrine and changes doctrine regularly under the guise of revelation.
It hides Joseph smiths past and lies about it.
He married multiple women and young children and it was official church doctrine to do this, ( I can provide all the sources on this , there's charges against Joseph Smith court document and official church publications and letter from Joseph regarding this and why it's okay)
He also sent away husbands on missions to then marry their wives.
discourage access to outside info- I've seen this myself and see it with my family, they refuse to read anything critical of the Mormon church , I saw a talk at conference saying not to trust sources not approved by the church.
My family won't watch anything I send them as its by " anti Mormons "
Even when most of it is just factual vidios or debates.
No over church discourages this other churches encourage open debate and discussion as they know their right and if not their happy to be proved wrong and come I to a close reltionship with God if they are wrong.
Mormons however are discouraged and told not to seek outside information that isent from the church.
      Which is trademark cult behaviour.
      Insider/ outsider doctrine
I'll compare the 2 view of salvation now of Mormons and orthodox
Mormons- works based, multiple levels of heaven 3 differnt kingodms only those in the church have the full truth and those who follow and do all the temple ceremony etc can go to the top level of heaven , celestial , terrestrial, tellestele etc.
( so clear in group out group preference)
Orthodox - we don't know who will be saved or who won't be , we beilive God loves us all and wants us all to be saved and we hope and pray that all we be saved even those outside the church and we beilive those who God's saved will all be in the same place worshiping him.
( so clear no ingorup outgorup preference)
Thought - encourages only good and proper thoughts , thought stopping techniques etc.
You see this alot with missionaries and how the apostles and prophet give talks and its in missionary training.
( I know this as my sister is an mtc trainer and my dad is a temple manager)
So missionary are taught when they can't anwser a question to go back to bearing their testimony and saying I know this is true cos I feel this etc.
Which is a thought stopping technique designed to stop them questioning why they can't anwser an inquires question etc.
( again I can show you alot of times this happens in vidios of protestants asking missionaries questiotion in regards to the bible , or if you give me an email or discord I can send you the actual missionary documents that teach this )
Emotional - feeling chosen or special , guilt manipulation , emotional blocking, phobia indoctrination.
Alot of Mormon doctrine is based on how you feel like I prayed and I know this feeling is true.
This is warned against in the bible as emotions can be manipulated very easily the apostles tell us not to trust our emotions.
      Mormons say the opposite.
Now most of my family are Mormons and high up In the church, my dad has met the prophet and apostles.
I was raised in the church, and there was alot of good, service projects , family values all amazing things it's honestly the nicest cult out their but its still a cult and promises you a false God and a false salvation.
These are just the arguments as to why its a cult.
Regardless of I'd you agree or not , I would love to be able to talk directly with you more about Christ the bible etc and who Jesus really is.
The Jesus Mormons share isent the real christ and can't save you , just as Muslims beilive in a differnt christ who dosent save.
Christ is the Son of the living God 1 part of the trinity , he is not created being , he is not the brother of lucifer.
You cannot become a god and their where no other God's before God.
All of this is clear in the bible and I'll happily show you if you would like.
Please don't take this as an attack on you as I know it can feel like that cos I've been in your position.
Joseph Smith fails the biblical test of a prophet , the bible tells us how we can test a prophet to see if they are of God in the old testament.
God says if a prophet has a failed prophecy then he is a false prophet .
Christ himself tells us even if an angel comes and shares with you a differnt gospel then I have preached do not beilive it.
Joseph teaches a differnt gospel to christ and its a gospel that does not save.
Christ wants you to come into a true reltionship with him, he loves you and is calling you to him.
I love you and want to help how I can, there is so much depth and truth to orthodoxy it is so much richer and fuller than mormonism.
I fell away and was aethist for years after leaving the church it was a long hard path , if I can help even one person though come away from mormonism and into a true reltionship with christ it's worth it.
If you have an email or discord or somewhere I could add you to speak further or over a call in some way I think that would be more helpful I can break down some scripute with you and anwse questions as best I can.

I have researched the errors of Mormonism for MANY years.
The hard fact is that the BOOK OF MORMON does NOT teach Mormon theology. Rather it teaches Christianity and REFUTES Mormonism.
Problems with the Book of Mormon:
-it is wrong about the Red Sea. ( 1 Nephi 2:8)
-the 1830 edition of the Book of Mormon read "mother of God", but was quickly changed to "mother of THE SON OF God". ( 1 Nephi 11:18)
-it says that the Messiah will be born in Jerusalem. ( Alma 7:10)
-trust a burning in your heart to know something is true. ( Moroni :_ ( God never says to do that.))
-a very American view of Heaven. ( Mormon 7:7)
-it messes-up the Lord's Prayer. ( 3 Nephi 13:9-13) Almost like someone was copying from the KJV of the Bible and had their hand on part of the page- covering part of the verses by mistake.
-copies the Bible and refutes Mormon theology. ( Moroni 9:9 & 19)
Pause at 31:08. This reminds me of the fact that Joseph Smith's Translation is FULL of errors. It is clear the Mormon "god" did not Hebrew and/or Greek.
Mormonism seems to be the only religion that says to "believe what we say, no matter what the facts say".

The 7th Day Adventists are kind of on the edge.

2: The first Article of Faith written by Joseph Smith as Doctrine says "We believe in God the eternal father and In His Son Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost" Joseph Smith was referring to the fact that the Mormons believe that they have different bodies and they are not morphed into one body.
3: The Bible clearly teaches that the Baptism is for the remission of sins. (Acts 2:38) And that men are not punished for their parents sins (John 9:3) unless you believe that babies can sin, Babies should not be baptized. Baptism is a new birth, you do it when you are able to consent.

Use lots of facts. Mormonism is really fickle and they embrace emotionalism over being rational. Ask him about historical evidence for Mormonism and the authenticity of the Book of Mormon. I like to bring up the "Reformed Egyptian" language which the Book of Mormon was written in. Ask him if there are any resources on it. Spoiler: there's not because it was literally made up by Joseph Smith lol. Literally just ask him questions and try to gently poke holes in Mormonism. By putting the ball in his court, he will be forced to deal with these errors.
I also like to bring up the history of the church. Mormons rely on the lie that there was a "great apostasy" which justifies their own authority over the church's historical authority. This is literally false, and you can point towards the existence of the Orthodox bishops or even the Catholic bishops to show that the church never "lost" their apostolic authority.
Don't be harsh, but gently prod him toward the holes in Mormonism. If the burden of proof is on him, then it'll cause doubt and then he will begin to question the theology. Again, by putting the ball in his court, he will be forced to deal with these errors.
"But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with *gentleness and respect,*"

Dead wrong! Neither the apostles nor Jesus Christ EVER taught Trinity. That Pagan dogma was introduced into Christianity in the 3rd century by Constantine and other pagans who were trying to convert Roman pagans (who worshipped triune Pagan gods). Moreover, if Trinity is true, then it was always true - and there is absolutely no evidence that Judaism ever taught, believed, or currently believes in such an absurd doctrine. SO using Trinity as evidence that Mormons are wrong demonstrates the opposite to be true. Churches which adhere to false doctrines like trinity, which are anti-Christian, non-Biblical, and refute the simple, beautiful logic of God's teachings serve only to lead people away from truth.
Ask yourself: Did Jesus pray to himself? Who did Jesus plead to in Gethsemane? Himself? Moreover, since the DEFINITION of trinity requires "ONE IN WILL", why did Jesus say "Not my will but YOURS be done"? These basic contradictions alone should make you wonder why trinity even exists! You should also ask yourself why the church altered the Bible to create the ONLY verse which even moderately supports the doctrine. Look up the "Johannine Comma" - this is a forged verse (every scholar agrees), created for ONE purpose only - to support the false doctrine of Trinity.

I was happy you didn’t go there with this video. Your characterization of them is as “Tri-theists” is probably pretty accurate. I also wanted to point out that much of what your guest said about LDS history are his conclusions or opinions on what the historical facts are. Much of what he said is disputed (or understood differently) by some LDS and non-LDS historians. Anyone who takes even a cursory look at LDS history will discover that little is undisputed. Regardless, I was glad you didn’t attack them with the usual nonsense, and I’m impressed.
It is interesting that you will see LDS people comment online “if I weren’t LDS, I’d be Orthodox” or “the Orthodox are closest to us” (because of our belief in Theosis and a non-modalistic Trinity). I think many in that church are starting to notice Orthodoxy. The LDS leadership for about the last 10 years has been trying to placate a small portion of their membership that can be described as “progressive” (aka “Progmos”). They have done this by trying to soften their rhetoric on social issues without actually changing their doctrine. I think this has only succeeded in confusing large swaths of their membership (witness your guest and his wife). I agree with your guest that if they were to ever actually “give in” and change their teachings in this area, there would be a large exodus.
While I believe that the Orthodox church is the true church, I think we also must remember that Orthodoxy was not even known by (let alone an option for) most people until very recently. Obviously, God loves all His children and will draw them closer to Him in any way He can. Some of the most Christ-like people I have met were LDS, and I chalk this up to God’s grace. None of us will be saved by passing a theology test. That is not to say that correct theology is unimportant, it is. But so are the “weightier matters of the law: judgment, mercy and faith….” (Matt 23:23). One of the beautiful things about Orthodoxy is that we can discern falsehood without passing judgment on those who hold to it. We know that judgment is God’s job, and not ours….
    Thanks for another great vid!

You did not get to know Mormonism from the inside. You did not even join or go through the temple. Plus they do not discuss these things we discussed at the Mormon Sunday services so you got nothing to contribute here. You did not provide one example of something I said that's untrue. Not sure why you brought up evangelicals being mean. LDS think they hold certain Orthodox beliefs but they are WRONG. Next time, put more thought into your comment.

For sure there are correct things moors believe that you do not, and some right things you believe they do not. It is not wise to try to raise yourself above others. Mormons have young adult churches where the congregation is mostly young people so they can help them get married more easily. Mormons also have a dating app that is extremely well made. I think the Orthodox Church can take some notes from them when it comes to promoting young people getting married within the church.

The 7th Day Adventists are kind of on the edge.
But yes, I FULLY agree with these suggestions.
