    I have never seen a better review of a product. Thank you for this, it has helped me greatly when looking into my first zero turn mower. Lots and lots of products exist out there and identifying the differences has been fairly difficult in most cases.

    Purchased this exact mower about a month ago. Narrowed it down from John Deere and Cub Cadet. I actually purchased the John Deere 42". While Lowes was assembling it, I ran across this mower. There was no comparison. This mower out performs the John Deere in every way around the same price point. I've been very happy.

    I've come to realize how big a deal Zero Turn is. I bought a used 2002 riding lawn mower that I fixed up, and it works and cuts just fine. The problem is, it has the turning radius of a battleship. Over a few weeks I developed a strategy to mow my lawn in the quickest way using the least about of gas, which it chows. But it still takes a lot of time to mow, requires a lot of forward/reverse jockeying, and as an expedient I leave various spots un-mooed, which I then have to finish up with the push mower. Excellent video, The Toro will be my prime candidate when I go after a relatively inexpensive Zero-Turn Mower.

    I bought this same mower about a month ago after looking at all the competition, I love it! I had an hour meter installed, bought the light kit, and installed myself (i don't know why I'm in bed by 8:00pm). It's a great machine, cuts beautifully and fast. You won't go wrong with this mower, especially if you buy from a dealer that can answer a question.

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it's very easy. On the dash by the throttle/ignition feel the decal with your finger. You will feel a rectangular cutout under it. Cut that out with a sharp knife. Stick the hour meter in and then just plug it into the wiring harness.No wiring - just plug and play.

    Great review and very informative. Just retired a 2006 Z5000 and got my new 50 today and wondered about some of the features.
    This machine is hands down the best for the buck, in my opinion. Well made and heavy duty - the Kawasaki engine purrs and the deck is solid as you could want. I am feeling good about the choice as it is close to commercial grade.

      All the adjustments to the deck are done with the front bracket. Make sure the rear bracket is in the slots on the deck.

      To take a front wheel off. Raise the other front wheel off the ground with a ramp, etc.,Then remove the axle. On most of these ZTR's you will need two 3/4 inch wrenches to loosen the nut and remove the bolt.

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are two small levers/rods located in the back of the mower by the transmissions. Those levers (bypass) release the trannys so that you can move the mower without the engine running. My first guess is that the right hand bypass lever is engaged. Move that lever to the engaged position and it should work. If it doesn't - get it back to the dealer so they can fix it.

  • @thomasgowen8298
    @thomasgowen8298 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I heard but don't know is that they have a chip board inside the control panel that if it gets moisture they fail and you won't be able to do anything

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no chip board on this machine. The electrical system on this machine is "conventional" and the mower doesn't use a computer module. The engine has it's own module mounted on the engine itself.
      It does have a logic module for the automatic parking brake system but that is located on the frame near the battery and completely sealed. The first year (5 years ago) they did have to replace a few of the brake modules right away but Toro quickly found the issue and there have been no problems since. Here is a parts list so you can verify this info www.toro.com/en/parts/partdetails/?id=52403

      The fuel up in Wisconsin is clear so the fuel level is hard to capture on camera.

    • @AustinPetDetective
      @AustinPetDetective 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PaulSikkema thanks Paul I put some fuel in it the other day and could finally see the level. I also discovered you can also see the fuel level when you lift up the seat and look at the tank from the inside. I was using the mower yesterday and the engine started to labour while cutting grass and all of a sudden, engine stopped then it would not start again ? I had the battery on trickle charge and was fully charged when I took it out so I can’t work out why it would not start again ?

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What your mower did is typically when it runs out of gas. If you did run it out of gas you will have to fully close the choke and then use the starter in five second intervals anywhere from 6 to 20 times before the gas gets all the way through the fuel lines and into the carb.
      If the engine is still warm don't use the choke.

    • @AustinPetDetective
      @AustinPetDetective 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PaulSikkema not sure how I could have run out of fuel, I’m in Australia by the way Paul. That’s the first thing i check ? The mower we bought has already been back to the dealer once to get the steering adjusted as it was,pulling to one side and not going straight. Also smoke came out the back of the engine as the cutting belt was twisted and almost burnt and broken right through,. No it has not been a good experience for us so far. I think next time we wont be going with toro may try another brand ?

  • @marymundy-jones5663

    My husband is working on my Toro v twin commercial 24.5 (2017) because it was cutting uneven. Looking under it we saw that the brackets on the stabilizing bar were a bit off center, perhaps I hit a stump? 😉 NOW the bracket on the left as your looking under has a raised piece that goes in a slot on the frame. Should that piece be bent toward the center of the mower?
    We've watched numerous videos trying to catch a glimpse of that as they reattach the deck...... But no one has shown it up close
    Ugh......please help!! Thank you. ☺

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi May, I couldn't quite figure out the bracket you want to attach. I suggest taking a ride to your nearest Toro dealer tomorrow and looking at a mower on the sales floor. When you look lower the deck all the way so you can get a good view.

    • @marymundy-jones5663
      @marymundy-jones5663 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Sikkema thank you so much for responding!!
      I think we’ve figured it out.
      One bracket has a slightly raised side and bent towards the center as to NOT slip into the hole on the frame.
      We were afraid it had come out of there.
      But we definitely will head to a dealer tomorrow.

    Hi Paul - great review. Quick question for you if you know. The accessory sheet for the 75750 shows that you can install a Toro 116-5461 hour meter on it. I can't seem to find a cut out on it anywhere where the hour meter would pop in. Do you know where that would go by any chance?

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find it pretty ridiculous for a manufacturer to skimp on adding an hour meter particularly for this level of machine and since maintenance is based on hours of operation. Fortunately there are inexpensive hour or rpm/hour meters you can add but why put the consumer through this extra hassle.

    Im trying to decide between the 42 inch stamped deck vs the fabricated deck. Durability regarding running into stuff is not a concern. I have a flat 1/2 lawn. My question is which is better at mulching? The stamped deck seems more round and the fabricated deck needs baffles to make it round and I’ve heard that grass clumps up in the gaps. Thanks

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stamped decks just plug the discharge. They are multi-purpose decks so they are not the best choice if you want to mulch all the time. A fabricated decks with baffles will do a better job.
      Just remember, to mulch properly you need to mow no more than 1/3 of the grass stalk off at one time. That means if you mow at 3 inches you should be out there mowing when the grass gets to 4 inches or so. During the growth season for your grass you will need to mow more often than once a week.
      Mow slower than side discharge so the blades have the time to reduce the clippings into little pieces.
      All that said, If you mulch correctly grass won't clump up under the deck.

    • @matthenry8236
      @matthenry8236 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!! That settles it I’m getting the 75744

    • @mellowjammer
      @mellowjammer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PaulSikkema Only problem here is that when you install the mulching baffles on this fabricated deck, that is ALL YOU CAN DO (no bagging or side discharge) unless you remove the whole mulch kit. Kind of a PITA if you have a lot of rain or go away on vacation for 2 weeks and the grass is too tall or wet to be mulched.
      Not easy to switch between discharge modes like the Toro stamped deck models or the John Deere residential zero turns.
      But the mulch kit looks to be effective with the built in "kickers" like on the Super Recycler mowers which are great at mulching.

  • @michaelbradley8508
    @michaelbradley8508 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    In your opinion which self-propelled walk behind mower has the best vacuum/lift capacity. I live in central Alberta, Canada and we only have about one month where the overnight temperatures are quite warm, thereby, allowing micro organisms to work effectively on lawn mulch, so I bag all my lawn clippings and place them in a formal compost pile. Years ago I had a Snapper Hi-Vac and it did a pretty good job of sucking up the clippings. Of todays lawnmowers which one would you recommend?

    • @PaulSikkema

    Have you talked about the stamped steel deck vs fabricated deck in terms of performance, discharging grass?

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I cover the topic extensively over at todaysmower.com. To recap, stamped decks are better for weekly mowing and most are designed to mulch with a simple blade change and discharge cover. Commercial, deep, fabricated decks are better for longer grass and will mow well at higher speeds.
      In other words if you have a smaller residential lawn and keep your mowing speed under 5 mph the stamped decks can be a good choice. But - if you have multiple acres and want to get done as fast as possible the fab decks generally will handle the job a lot better and faster.

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI James. It will go through a 5 ft gate with the chute up. The chute catches when going through a 6 foot gate with it down. So, I suggest a 7 ft minimum to clear the mower with a bagging chute.

      Hello. I'm sure you've fixed this already but anyone else who might be having the same problem, here is the fix. Lift your seat & you will see 2 11mm bolts for each handle. Just adjust the desired amount till both handles pushed all the way forward the mower stays straight.
      ****These do not take much force to adjust & only adjust so far. Be sure to keep an eye on the half circle cut out & plastic knob sticking out for a reference***
      If the handles do not line up correctly in neutral then you adjust the bolts on the handles.

    • @PaulSikkema

      Yes, I do have an opinion. The Kohler 7000 series has an excellent reputation. It has great fuel economy and the governor is more sensitive than the other brands - meaning when cutting heavy grass it will pick up quicker and the engine will not lug down as much.
      I have no preference between the Kohler and the Kawasaki (or the Toro engine)
      I would NOT pay extra for the Kawasaki.

      Personally, I mulch and then use a good sweeper to pick up the chewed up leaves. I have this sweeper: homedepot.sjv.io/kAJKV
      It's less expensive and takes up a lot less room in my storage shed. That said,
      The Toro baggers work well but I suggest installing the high-lift bagging blades instead of mulching blades. Mulching blade may not have enough airflow to throw wet leaves into the bagger and fill the bagger.

      It really depends on what you want. They are VERY close for performance and quality.
      They both side discharge extremely well.
      They are both built very well and have a good reputation.
      The Toro has the smart speed so you can pull heavier loads. I also feel it rides a little better with the larger front casters. Toro has a larger dealer network so you may be able to find a good dealer closer to you. If you want to mulch the Toro is slightly better.
      The Ariens has larger rear tires so it has better traction on slopes and soft/sandy soil. It also has the 4 point lift on the deck so if your lawn is rough and wavy it will follow the mower and cut more evenly. If you want to bag the Ariens has the best bagging system - but it is more expensive. If you want to bag all the time their bagger works in all conditions including wet grass.

I don't trust sealed bearings much after having to change wheel hub assemblies in vehicles, when with old vehicles I could just grease the bearings in my palm and even if I had to buy new bearings they were way less expensive. When the sealed mandrels wore out on my current mower I replaced them with mandrels with zerks and I expect they'll last much longer as I tend to do maintenance on my equipment a bit more often than the manuals call for.

      I like the large rear tires and that you can step on the deck of the Ariens. I like the 4-point deck suspension. It cuts even better than the Toro and handles long grass better. I like the offset deck so it's very easy to trim around utility poles and smaller trees. If you want to bag all the time Ariens has the only powered bagger in this price range.

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went over and looked and CR is stating N/A which means they didn't test the bagger.
      If you've never owned a ZTR with a bagger there are a few things to know so you won't be disappointed.
      1. They work very well for leaves and dead grass.
      2. They do not work very well if you have the mulching blades installed. If you want to bag green grass clippings weekly, you need the high lift bagger blades installed. You can use the regular blades the mower came with - but they won't create as much suction to pick up all the grass. The hi-lift bagger blades also work very well for side discharge.
      3. They don't bag wet grass. If there is dew on the grass they may work, but won't throw the bagger full. If the grass is wet from rain they most likely will plug the discharge chute more than they throw the grass into the bags.
      4. There are a few companies that make a powered bagger. Gravely for example has a fan that attaches to the deck and that will throw any grass - even wet stuff into the bagger. (but it's $900)
      All that said, if you are mowing your Bermuda when it needs it (two to three times a week) you won't have any issues. It's when you wait until you have 4-6 inches of growth you will have problems. If it's not doing a good job slow down to a walking speed.

    I found a used Wheel Horse 417-A, with 900 hours, Kohler 17 , seller says it doesn't run only needs a battery, hyd fluid and the steering "clicks" ? and a 48" mower deck and plow comes with it all for $400, I plan on taking a battery and jumper pack with me to see if the engine at least turns over and maybe starts, seller says it will run with a battery, it's very rough looking but it's all there. I don't need it I have a lawn tractor and I want it for a winter fix up project. I think you'll agree the older Wheel Horse were the best and made extra strong with beefy frames, transmissions and axles.

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      At $400 it's a good project tractor. Yes, they are built like a tank. Bring a quart of fresh gas with you and the tools to drain the gas tank/carb. Depending on how long it sat the fuel bowl may be full of water and the gas in the tank will be bad. Hopefully he had the fuel shut-off closed. If the fuel shutoff was left on check the engine oil, smell it and make sure there is no gas in the oil before you try to run it more than at idle.
      I'm very concerned with "it only needs hydraulic fluid." It has a hydro transmission and it may require a rebuild if it won't move. If you can check the oil in the trans, it should be the color red. If it's brown or black and smells burnt you probably have a bad hydro.
      The decks were the weak link on that tractor. All new decks cut a lot better and the old decks rusted out and always needed spindle bearings - expect to repair the deck.
      Go to mytractorforum.com and talk to the guys in the Wheel House section if you need parts.
      You can always fix it up and join the antique lawn tractor shows :)

Whereas the 75750 shown here uses the smaller zt2100 3/4” axle. I was somewhat disappointed to learn my 2021 75750 was downgraded to the zt-2100. Seems to me most manufacturers go with the zt-2200 on almost all residential models, with the exception of a few who use it on machines with decks 42” and under. I feel like all zero turns with a 50” deck or larger deserve a 1” transaxle.

      I guess I am not aware that they have the oscillating front axle on the residential Kommander series. Even if it did their cheapest mower is $2000 more than this one. That said, there are many flip-deck models available in the $4000-$10,000 range besides the Kubota.

    Great review. I just picked up my 2021 Time Cutter 50” with My Ride. Awesome mower! I got my first cut done last night and it was great.
    I looked at John Deere, Ariens and Kubota for higher end residential zero turns.
    I wasn’t too impressed with JD, it just seemed lighter weight and less quality than the others. And once they told me that JD branded engines are Briggs&Stratton; I was out the door.
    Ariens is well made. I own one of there snowblowers and it is great, and if I like a brand I try to stick with it. But they don’t offer anything great for financing.
    Kubota makes a nice machine. I own a BX tractor and I love it. Kubota offers 0% on their machines which is huge. But they were sold out until spring 2022 at local dealerships.
    Toro is very heavy duty and just feels like quality. The My Ride is great and well worth the added expense. I’m 6’1 and 230 and I have plenty of room on this machine. Some of the other brands, not so much. My mower has the Toro 24 hp engine and it has plenty of power! The cut quality is great. I also own a Toro Recycler AWD push mower and it is also a nice machine. I highly recommend Toro.

    Nice video Paul. I have 2 questions regarding this machine. I'm concerned about these trannys. Are the hydrostatic transmissions serviceable? Is this machine made by MTD ?

    Like the mower but very disappointed with aluminum spindles that arnt greaseable.

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sealed bearing spindles are the way to go for most homeowners. Why? Because half of us don't know how use a grease gun and the other half has no need for a grease gun for anything except the front wheels of their lawn tractor. As long as you don't try to force water into the bearings with a pressure washer these bearings/spindles will last many years. That said,
      Only the commercial machines that see hundreds of hours a year really need greaseable spindles anymore.

    The Powersmart PSM9422SR is $269 and the same as the TimeCutter

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm confused. The powersmart is a made in China 22 inch walk behind. This TimeCutter is a 50 inch zero-turn made in the U.S.A. Just one more spec - the Powersmart only cuts to 3 inches - the Timecutter cuts up to 4 1/2 inches. How is it the same?

      @@PaulSikkema I got the wrong video -words mixed up, I am talking about the Toro push mower self propelled with the alumimun deck, where the Powersmart is made by the same factory in China as Toro and the engines look exactly the same

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your information is incorrect. They are made in Mexico. They moved all walks to Mexico a couple years ago due to Windom MN being at max capacity.
      Engine comes from China and that’s why next year might be a lot more Honda GCV in line up, due to tariffs.
      Its good and bad I love the Toro engine, but hate where it’s from. The Honda’s are built in USA.

    The plastic covers on the deck will not stay on. The clip that should click when it is seated correctly has never clicked, it even flew off on the delivery to my home. Mowed with it one time and the covers come off. I'm beginning to think this great idea was not very well thought out.. love the mower, mine has My Ride so it is very comfortable. Help me to keep the plastic covers on the deck, Please.
