It's great to see musicians appreciate what is happening here with Band-Maid. Very tasteful all the way through each song but way more progressive than they seem at the surface. Well crafted compositions that allows each musician to display their talent without compromising the song. Thanks for reacting to Band-Maid and as you'll find out, they have a "sound" that is uniquely and identifiable as "Band-Maid" but each song is different and very rarely cut/paste. BTW, Saiki's voice at this point was in trouble (her voice was getting more raspy and husky), she was developing polyps and having issues with prolonged singing, she had vocal cord polyp surgery in 2017 and restored her voice to full power.
Band Maid is all about the song. Any solo is done with the song in mind. Try a 2 fer video of Manners/Black Hole for a taste of their variety. Bluesy classic rock to controlled chaos.
Alone is the first song written by the band their management allowed to be released. Mincho’s (Kanami) solos always fit the song. She also plays multiple riffs in every song.
Kanami’s solos are meticulously well thought out - she never favors pure technical playing over what properly fits the moment. This being the first recorded song where they wrote and arranged it all themselves it has a little Easter egg at the start. Saiki before this had always sung with the mike on the stand. At the start she pulls the mike off and throws the stand down. A "We're doing it our way now" move. Technically the first song written and arranged by them, YOLO, got recorded later as a single but was written by Kanami before the band existed and then she adapted it for them.
The barefoot Bass Assassin's name is MISA. ALL CAPS, preferably chanted 3 Times, as in MISA! MISA! MISA!!! But yeah, true! BAND-MAID only play to serve the song. They can play like a Noodle Meister Show Off Band but they rein it in just enough to keep it tasteful and accessible. Nothing wrong with those other bands, like Aldious. But hwy the hell did LOVEBITES hire Fami if they're going to keep her on a leash? You put a Noodle Meister Show Off Bassist in a band like that and don't let her show off? Pointless!
