Miku is the vocal secret weapon. She is like Michael Anthony with VAN HALEN. I always thought Michael Anthony was underrated nuance to the Van Halen sound, at least in the David Lee Roth era. Miku is that.
Bark interview on Epic Narratives Forbidden Tale KANAMI: Yes. SAIKI had been telling me for a while that she wanted a song with a lot of development. And when I was making this song, I happened to have experienced the death of someone close to me, so I was thinking about things like "What is life?" and "What does it mean to live?" So I thought I'd like to try to express things like "What is a person's life?" and "Life has ups and downs" through music. Even though there are ups and downs and many changes, there should be a core that never changes, so I expressed that in the riff... I'm kind of embarrassed to say this myself SAIKI: Don't be embarrassed! (laughs) Miku Kobato: That's cool! Barks: So in other words, the riff is like a fixed point, and it feels like it's watching over the changes in life, right? KANAMI: That's right! SAIKI: This song I thought was very wonderful from the first time I heard it. I got a lot of images when I listened to it. This is exactly the kind of song I wanted. Barks: The lyrics of this song were written by SAIKI. It's a little different from "life has ups and downs," but it seems to express a view of life. What did you want to express here? Saiki: Every day, I realize how wonderful music is, and while I was researching the history of music, I learned that there were songs that were forbidden to sing long ago, and stories that were forbidden to tell. But now, with modern technology, we have the chance to restore them and listen to them, and the reality is that we can now read stories that were once forbidden. That made me realize that art is something that never disappears, and I thought that this in itself is very romantic and beautiful. When I thought about what would happen if I expressed life in music, while asking the question "What is life?" that KANAMI asked, I thought that "living" means "we are here now." I wrote this song with the hope that even if our bodies were to disappear, someone might someday pass on this music. I was thinking that it would be nice if our music would remain in the future. I thought it would be wonderful if people in the future who would never know BAND-MAID would find out about us through this song, and if our music could give someone a push. I've experienced something like that myself. There are many musicians who were no longer in this world when I started to like music, right? But their music gave me courage, taught me the greatness of music, and gave me a push, so I wrote these lyrics hoping that I could do that someday. Akane: When I listened to this song, I got a bright future and a positive and beautiful impression, so I didn't want to ruin it by filling it with clutter in terms of performance. I wanted to make a song that would stick in people's ears and resonate with their hearts, so the drums are unusual for BAND-MAID songs, with the same rhythm repeated. Even though there were changes for each section, there were parts where the drums were focused on highlighting the melody, so that it would fit in the ears. I just had a strong desire to deliver the melody. MISA: I felt that this song had a story and the development was interesting, so I played it while being conscious of making the different characters in each section while keeping it simple. I tried changing the touch of my picking and things like that.
Indoor shots of the MV were filmed at The Royal Chester in Ota, Gunma Prefecture. It's a wedding venue. Outdoor shots were filmed at the nearby Ota Kokubu Sports Park. Both lovely locations indeed.
@@brunobryant4846 Fun fact. The MV of "Don't You Tell Me" was also filmed at The Royal Chester - but the one in Maebashi just a few miles West of the one in Ota. It's also a wedding venue. If you hire the Royal Chester for your wedding, make sure you go to the right one lol!
Couldn't agree more at how well the video matches the feelings and vibes of the song. When it cuts to the red lights...my jaw dropped. I think Kanami's new guitar was first featured in the Show Them MV, but it was pretty hard to see. She also revealed the body on IG a while back. It's a lovely guitar for sure and I'm insanely jealous of it 😆
The one in Show Them was the MV debut of her other new guitar. It has a similar, but darker color scheme. This is the first video with the Private Stock.
That last section (the bright white section) made me tear up, this song is a masterpiece. It's #1 for me, followed by "The One" and then "Tol et Mol". Thanks for watching.
Great song, Awesome video too. I like how they highlighted and emphasized different parts of the song, with a lot of cool transitions throughout the song.
Yes, that IS Kanami's new PRS. I see 'Epic Narratives' as a transitional album for Band-Maid. Consider how long they were working on writing and recording this album: like from before they started their 10 Ant tour and throughout it, all the while planning the Tour final, and simultaneously working on the details of the Platinum Passport to MAIDIT transfer. (Hah-ha, I say this as though we haven't seen Band-Maid constantly changing over the last eleven years!) Saiki playing piano, Miku covering lead guitar more often, all the collaborations this year, Saiki writing more lyrics, Kanami and the rest doing more PR work. They've tried a lot of 'new things' on this album production-wise and they're being a touch more adventurous. Saiki does the set lists and track order lists, and 'Epic Narratives' ties together thematically quite well with the topic of each song flowing into the next, making it at least seem as though a story is being told.
Yep, the MV fits the song very well and this in turn fits the title of the album perfectly. 🤘🏻 Saiki knows how to enchant with her glances, doesn't she? 😇❤🔥 _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. Forever!"_ 」 - from *BAND-MAID* - 'Manners' ♬🕊
Between the genius of Kanami and Miku's poetry of lyrics, just amazing 👏! Love Miku's progression on guitar, but with Mincho as her sensi it's not a surprise!
A perfect video to match such an amazing song. The transitions between b/w and the different colors through every "act" helps to reinforce that sense of proggy-ish feel of the song Also a really nice and subtle detail all of those shots where a hand is trying to reach the shadow of another hand... the tragedy and inevitability of loss in one, apparently simple, image
Saiki has such a beautiful home! Afterwards they had to clean up and so came Manners! Awesome song and MV. Btw was that miku’s hand she was reaching too? Reminds me of Bubble
New album & management rights... I would say now they started to reach new listeners... Cause this song bit more easy to listen... Just a little bit.. its just my thought... nothing wrong... Overall this is awesome new song & video...
Yeah there is a mass-accessible feel to *parts* of the (before this one) non-MV songs. It put me off a bit right at first because of guilt by association but after further listening I was like, "But this is actually GOOD."
I encountered one of those "Everything after WD sucks" weirdos yesterday who proudly proclaimed that he listened to the album twice and will now only ever listen to four of the songs because "the composition has gotten so bad." I suspect it will always be over his head anyway, but the lazy, closed-minded smugness was like somebody going to a Rothko exhibit and ranting about "My five year-old could do this!"
I disagree with the guy's opinion, but he *did* listen to the album twice before deciding what he'd continue listening to on it - that does not strike me as close-minded at all. Also, liking ~1/3 of the album enough to continue listening to it contradicts the whole "everything after WD sucks" statement. He probably listens to some tracks on their other releases as well.
@@Omegastrep Well, one of those "listens" was watching a reaction livestream. He says he's a long-time fan, and this is a band known for making people say, "I didn't like X song at all when it came out and now it's in my Top 10." My irritation wasn't band- specific though (altho of course he had to talk about "simps" 😄), it was more about the whole "give me the same thing I liked before and don't you dare expect me to make any effort," which to me is a gross, entitled attitude towards not just art but everything. He had valid *opinions* but wasted them by saying they were objective facts - and 2 listens is nowhere near enough to justify that sort of hubris.
@@lurkmerchant This was a YT reaction comment, but he said he'd made a point of expressing his displeasure in several places. Which is weird if he liked 4 of the new songs, as Omegastrep pointed out.
