There are still so many things I didn't pick up on... I've listened to it 20 times and still find new stuff. It's honestly kinda cool how many things I was off on or didn't notice the first time... like, shit made me think. Top notch Band Maid stuff here.
Opinion: Band-Maid sound engineers use way too much compression. Hence the usual opinion one should only listen to live? Thoughts?
@@federerfanatic I mean... it depends on your preference. I rarely notice it, but if you're a sound buff, I could see why it would bother you.
I do think sometimes they go OTT with the post production, but it also gives them a bit of a diff quality than others.
IDK to each their own.
@@TheChampOfMedium Rick Beato got some grief recently for calling out the compression on a couple of Band Maid tracks, saying that it made the music unpleasant for him to listen to. I saw some people say he was stuck in the past but I just think that the dude has been doing this long enough that he knows what he likes. (They also glossed over the positive things he said but whattayagonnado?)
Same for me Champ . Soooo much going on. But I have grown to love it, esp Misa's descending chromatic runs flying aound in the choruses. Genius from her as usual.

I just watched the video of their talk on Band-Maid Nippon before jumping into this.
Apparently, Saiki was a bit embarrassed standing in front of the wings. And Miku did some shots shooting a red arrow... which were not included in the final MV.
They had never composed an orchestral piece before but, as always, Kanami came through after researching and talking to fellow musicians. This band is so hard working!

I came here after listening to the radio show too. I had hoped that Kanami had composed the orchestral intro so really pleased to hear she did, she is such a pro.
I was so pumped to see that this was an eighteen and a half minute video. Give me all the pauses, 'cause that means you're digging deep into something that catches your attention. Love it from Chase Carneson (when he comes out of his cave once in a blue moon nowadays), and I love it here.
The first time I heard this song, I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. After hearing it a few more times, I actually love it. We know that Kanami writes most of their music, so I'm assuming she wrote this one as well. One of the things I love about her is her willingness to take risks. She's willing to try things that most people wouldn't dare try. She's always evolving - never copying things she's done before. Always pushing the envelope. That, to me, is the mark of a true genius. If you look at the great composers of the past, they were always coming up with new methods of expression. I put Kanami in that same category.
if people don't like how you pause and actually have something to say about the songs, any songs, you listen to: fuck em.
Keep doing you, keep brewing your own flavor of reaction, it always adds something to the scene that's lacking.
A lot of people who react to band-maid stuff don't even notice half the shit you do, and that's fine I get it, most people aren't trained professionals or people who've spent many years training their ear for this sort of thing, but it's ALWAYS appreciated when my girl MISA gets the recognition she deserves. Hell yeah.

Hey, this was by far the best review of this song. It was really worth it. No one has so far unraveled the little intricacies of the second verse, the cut second chorus, the false halftime, the fantastic transitions (my favorite is Akane's fake slow down, she is wonderful as always), that original two part solo... My respects sir. You are very good at what you do. Oh and don't worry, so far Sense is having an excellent reception, on par with Different or After Life. Thank you very much, it was very interesting.

That was a great reaction. Might be the best Sense reaction I have heard. Love all the pauses and analysis. You picked up on things I hadn't heard. Love the text boxes. Wave Potter is a drummer and he reacted to the 3 songs and he talks about Akane's drums quite a bit.
Not a bad way to brighten anyone's day than the happy ladies of BAND-MAID. Doesn't matter which song. I mean just seeing Akane's smiling face behind her kit. How can it not.

There are way more reactors to BAND MAID now so the views get spread out over more people. I think it is widely known now, a good way to get views is to mention BAND MAID. Good reactors will still get clicks ;) .
You're going to love the "B-sides" (actually two more A-sides). As good as "Sense" is, they're even better, IMHO.
I'm curious as well. I think he will flip over Corallium but Hibana might be a little too straightforward.
Totally with cream and a cherry on top, if you are loving where they are going and consciously leaving many of the codgers behind because they don't want to be a codger band.

Great analysis (again). I think you nailed it with what you said about them skating that line between mainstream/accessible and progressive/weird/complex. To me that's the core of their greatness, and it's ironic that so many people seem to quickly go, "Oh wait, it sounds catchy and melodic and _fun_ so it must be simplistic, unoriginal, and beneath me" while others are simultaneously like, "I can't immediately wrap my head around it on the first listen so it must be arty, pretentious wankery" when IMO both should be thinking, "Awesome, here's a chance to expand my horizons and still get the kind of thing I'm really into at the same time." Hearing that kind of narrow-mindedness is frustrating not just as a fan of Band-Maid, but of music in general.
G'day Champ. That was an entertaining, relaxed analysis. Hope you also get a chance to enjoy this end-to-end without pauses some time soon before you venture onto the other tracks.
This is, by far, the best reaction that I saw about this song. And yes the b-sides are wonderful and you need to check them out. Anyway they are exploring new musical paths with their latest works and I love it. They have humble characters yet when it comes to creating music they are extremely courageous in doing things that could make scratch the heads of the mainstream casual listeners and even the heads of their older fans but they are inviting us to follow their journey to greatness. They remind me more and more my all time favourite band: RUSH. I love those girls... They are filling the void that RUSH left me when they called it a day.
Man I was waiting for this. There are other reactors that I love, Ryan and Wave just to name a couple. But I didn't feel like the reaction to Sense was complete until this video came out. :)
Sense is frantic, and incredible. Akane and Misa are absolute savages, Saiki and Miku vocals level-up, and Kanami... well she's Kanami. What more could you ask for from Band-Maid.
I absolutely can't wait to hear your reaction to Corallium. It's going to blow you away.

Band Maid are going fearless almost playing atonal with misa plucking dissonnance notes because she can,akane creating insane fills, Kanami going fripp(king crimson ; they are about to crack open a can of Starless)
fearless transitions,and the double voices going total intricate. fearless better get use to this Band Maid cause that's where they are headed ; i for one am all in for this adventure.
Hey Champ. Glad to have you back. I haven't really checked the view count of the reactions, but Sense is an amazing song. Actually, the entire Sense single is peak Band-Maid. Wait until you hear the two other songs. It is hard to believe, but Sense is not the best song on the single 🤘

I think that the fact that this was commissioned for an anime can cause some to view the song differently than if the same song were released on its own. It can give it a different perception apart from the music. I have not watched the whole show, but it is certainly bittersweet and I think the slightly discordant or off-key sound matches with the anime quite well. I would love to hear how Band Maid goes about doing a targeted song like this. Thanks for the reaction. :)

Not gonna lie, this wasn't my favorite BM song when I first heard it, and I wasn't sure if I even actually liked it. Gave it a few more shots, and it grew on me more. Hearing your breakdown, however, has really helped boost my appreciation for this piece. So anyone who complains about the pausing is clearly missing the point. You are doing more than reacting, but educating, sharing your knowledge and experience. Well done, sir!

I think what makes this song so different is just the fact it was made for an anime. Its the same reason that different was, well, different. These anime soundtrack songs are always produced much differently and are usually more grand, and i think its why a lot of people may be turned off by them. To me, despite that, the songs still keep that bandmaid feel and sound to them and its usually some of their more ambitious music. I mean this was almost a completely new vocal style for saiki and i loved it, all the instrumentals are just off the rails like usual and they still find ways to add weird and unique sounds that you might not even notice until your 15th listen. Its always baffling to me that bandmaid fans just cant get on board with these songs because theyre just as good as everything else they make
Gotta say man, with your reactions...the more pausing the better in my opinion. I think this is the best reaction/review I've seen of this song, and it was definitely worth the wait! Definitely looking forward to your reactions of the B sides though too!

I appreciate your BAND-MAID reactions. I'm planning to write my own music so I always analyze songs (including BAND-MAID's) and how they were written. After watching this reaction video I discovered a lot more from this song that I wasn't able to notice on my own. And I appreciate all the pauses btw!
Great Reaction. I feel the newer songs are ones you have to listen to more than once for them to get stuck in your head. Then you cant stop listening to them. This song of course was written for an anime which means its a little different.

Just finished watching the movei "Kate" having no idea Band Maid was in it! When I saw them smack in the middle of the movie I remembered...subtitles were funny "punk rock music"...lol Great movie btw.... When I first heard this I thought it sounded like a few of their other songs....and it kind of does, but its superficial...the more I listened to it, the more I began to pick up on the nuances that make this song unlike any other they've done...:) Of course you pointed out even more of it! And then finding out it was written for an anime or something like that...it explained more, for me, why it was written the way it is... And if that "Kate" movie is any indication....Ima be looking for this anime for sure :) On a side note, I know the feeling. My mom died at the end of September unexpectedly...that shit is hard to take...doing this as a distraction helps a little....that's empathy btw, not sympathy...:) lol Great review!

Sorry for your loss. Thank you for another entertaining yet educational video! Please keep doing you, because I already know band-maid is awesome and will just watch the MV or listen to their songs if I want to listen without pause. What you offer is way more valuable.
Also, looking forward to the next 2. Like many others have said, for me it’s been almost 2 weeks and my personal ranking is still Corallium > Hibana > Sense, where Sense is already awesome.

Personally I usually need two or three listens to really enjoy some of their songs, as it was the case of "Sense" or happened to me with "Different", but the more I listen to them the more I like them, possibly because each listen I can discover some new detail and that's what's really good ;)

What I like is how Miku's guitar playing gets better every album. Like at the end of Kanami's solo. Miku is doing the high sliding parts as Misa is putting her twist on it. Every time I listen to a Band Maid song I find something new that I didn't hear before. I like your evaluation of the song. Most reactions just glance over it. They don't get into the nitty gritty like you do. Thanks for doing that.

can you imagine if someone wrote the music out for all the different parts in normal notation ? It would look like hell on paper and probably take a week to finish properly. This really a musician's dream ( or nightmare). An orchestral arrangement would be a mammoth effort.

Most of us don't have your ear to discern the various parts. We need it hammered in our heads through repetition which this song has little of. Also explains your editor liking it more with each listen.

I have often heard critics tell me a band is challenging the listener only to feel like what they were doing actually sucked in MHO. With these ladies, they definitely challenge you, and it is an absolute joy to accept it. I find new things to love every time I listen to them. Their creativity is stunning.

Great reaction as usual, thoroughly enjoyed the breakdown and analysis. I also just noticed a quick 1 or 2 second vocal right at the very end. Band-Maid puts out an EP for Sense and includes two additional songs for the "B-side", but in usual B-M fashion, the B-sides are probably better than the "A-side".
Been waiting for your reaction to this one you're my favorite Band Maid...reactor? If that's an official title, it is now. You notice all the little details and being a musician you're able to put into words things that make me go "oh that was a cool thing" idk what it was but it was nice. Then you go "this is the thing" and I'm like "ooooh okay I get it" (I don't) but for me those intangibles are part of what makes Band Maid so amazing. Keep up the good work my man!
To be honest, it's taken me a bit to warm up to this one, and after watching your reaction I think I figured out why. There's so much going on that I think I was a little overwhelmed. My poor ADHD brain didn't know what to do with all that stuff coming at it at once, lol.
In that regard, your breakdown was not only interesting but helpful, because I can appreciate the song now in a way I couldn't before.

This new track, along with the other two released with it, are some of Band Maid's best work in my opinion. Great composition, enough technical difficulty to be impressive, and some great melodies. I can't wait to hear what comes next!
It took me three times listening to this song, before understanding the ballsiness of it. Seems sometimes, as a fan, I'm standing in a cloud of dust and exhaust fumes of the race car that is Band-maid. Coughing and trying to understand what's happening. Lol.
I've been around since Thrill and I have loved the direction they have gone. Usually you think of bands simplifying their sound as they get bigger to appeal to a wider audience but Band-Maid has a commitment to being weird. They are so catchy and poppy but are still experimental and do weird shit like having a verse last ten seconds or whatever that like djent prog metal breakdown they put in this song was. It just keeps their music so fresh and interesting. Even trying to put them in a genre is hard, like maybe progressive pop-punk or something.
Kanami is a genius. And I love this song. Yeah, it's for an anime. But, if you know what you know, it has all those prog stuff sprinkled with some catch sections - then it has a very honest earnestness with hopes and wishes in the song. Combined with the lyrics, it's a brilliant song. Maybe most people don't catch it.

honestly, if the anime platinum end didn't use this song as the theme I probably wouldn't continue watching it, literally the only reason I watch is because the song is so good and fits the opening amazingly

Suspect that the low numbers for reviews is because people not wanting to see the same thing over and over again. So many reviewers say very little that's that unique to them. In terms of getting the love - half a million views in 2 weeks for the official video is what matters.

I really like 火花 ("Spark", I guess) in particular. It feel a little bit like 90's post grunge to me, or something like that.
I really don't understand why some Maidiacs are saying "B-side songs are better than Sense".
Why not simply say "Hibana is my fav song, or Corallium is my fav song."🤔
