So very helpful. I started quilting after over 50 years of making clothes where seams are pressed open. My first two quilts were baby quilts made with 4 1/2 inch squares and I pressed all the seams open. Talk about a time consuming pain. I had to pin every seam together to get them to line up, another time consuming pain, and even doing that I wasn’t able to get a perfect seam on all the pieces. I did a stitch in the ditch on the first quilt and it came out awful. Never again will I press open seams.

      Hello,
I believe that is the Omnigrid FoldAway cutting mat and ironing board. It can be purchased online through many different retailers, but here is one listing through Amazon:

what if I dont have a dark one, using 2 white pieces which direction do I press ..left or right

Mary Lynn Granado: since having the darker fabric show through behind the lighter is not a factor, you would just want to figure it out so that when seams cross they are pressed in opposite directions whenever possible in order to make matching them up easier.
