    I love your voice, it is so soothing. Thank you for this video. I learned to put the "extra" fabric on the bottom.

    If you were here, I would hug you! I am a newbie quilter and the first two quilts I put borders on became wavy. Out of frustration, the next three were borderless! I found your tutorial, watched it twice and cut a border for the quilt I am now working on. Thank you so much! It turned out perfect!

    This IS by far THE BEST method for PERFECT borders every time!
    No tape measure, no calculations, no fuss. You'll never tear your hair out trying to get the borders on accurately, again...:)
    This is now my go-to method and I've shared it over and over. Thank you so much!!!

    Diane, I saw a bunch of other videos attempting to explain what you did so easily. Everyone else skipped steps and made it complicated. You made it easy. thank you so much for your help. I'm working on my first quilt!

    I’ve never saw this process before, but it looks a lot less frustrating than how I have done. Neither of my two lap quilts I have done this year ended up squared, the first time it took me forever. I will try this on my next quilt. Thank you.

    Hi Diane...I 'googled' "add a border quilts" to come up with a design I need for a class I am taking to learn how to quilt borders with my Statler Stitcher. What a surprise to see you as the first thing that came up. I met you at a retreat in Buena Vista years ago. Great job on your TH-cam video!! BTW I am still great friends with Alma and Lanie from that retreat. Hope you are well. Denese Marshall

    So how do you cut the fabric? Do you cut parallel to salvage or do you fold and cut 2 layers... several across the folded fabric

  • @323becky
    @323becky 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is perfect! will it work if your quilt isn't perfectly square? for example, my top is 76 in. and the bottom is 76.5 inch.

    • @TinekeWilliams
      @TinekeWilliams 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, just ease it and put the longer side on the bottom. feed dogs will pull it along a fraction more than the top. always remember that. Good luck!!!

  • @nanettejernigan7338
    @nanettejernigan7338 ปีที่แล้ว

    What do you do if the quilt top is narrower in width than it is in length? I have a beautiful piece of fabric 28” by 42” that is a Hawaiian scene and I am making this into a whole cloth baby quilt. Not sure how long to make the borders.

    are the asterisks laid out on top of quilt and sewed on in order (like sew on all diagonally. & then horizontally then lastly the vertical strips)? I love this quilt & colorings!

    • @NationalQuiltersCircle
      @NationalQuiltersCircle  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The asterisks are pieced into each block and then the blocks are assembled in rows and stitched together.Hope this helps!

    @talllala 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm confused I'm always the last one to understand... why lay the border strips across the middle for measuring for the vertical side borders? I get laying them out for the horizontal (top and bottom) borders unless the quilt itself is a perfect square? My quilts are often longer on the sides or length than the width. Ahh unless youre saying the length is twice the width? I always get there eventually😂

    How did you cut the border strips? Lengthwise grain or width grain? Any tricks to measuring and cutting those border pieces? These how-to videos always start with the border pieces already cut.

    Great technique for getting borders to lay flat, but do you still need to square up the top before you quilt it?

    you add the pieces to to all four sides . So now how do you finish the borders

  • @nsando3177
    @nsando3177 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I used your method and my border went on perfectly and was flat. But after I quilted the top, except for the border, the border became wavy. The top was quilted quit heavily. It was still wavy after I quilted the border itself. Any way to avoid this?

    • @TinekeWilliams
      @TinekeWilliams 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always make sure my borer lies nice and flat before I cut it. If you leave it too loose you get wrinkles, learned my lesson to keep it tight and flat but not hard tight.

  • @bettyhutchens7669
    @bettyhutchens7669 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you do this the same way if you are using three borders?

    • @cazfromoz1
      @cazfromoz1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why not! Just be sure keep borders absolutely flat for each one...

  • @lisaz4060
    @lisaz4060 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    why dont you just match the border to one side and only make one cut not to waste fabric and how to you decide how wide to make a border for a panel quilt. I cut a 2 1/2" border finishes at 2" border all around and then I want to do another wider border and I don't know if I should do 5" border finishes at 4 1/2" ?

    Do you cut your borders selvage to selvage or parallel to selvage??

    • @NationalQuiltersCircle
      @NationalQuiltersCircle  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Kirstin. On a small quilt like that one that I would probably hang on the wall, I would cut my border strips on the lengthwise grain. This is the strongest fabric grain and will give me a better chance at getting my quilt to hang nice and straight. Hope this helps.

  • @sensa619

    Why not just sew on one side and then cut the excess?? Seems like less room for mistakes

      Hi,
      There are many different ways and methods to measure and attach your borders- this is simply a suggestion for a way that our instructor found was best for her.

    I like this method as opposed to miter corners but …

    your instructions are pointless if the quilt doesn't squares or geometrical patterns.
