    I have to say that starting this channel was a brilliant idea. It's nice to see a great review of Lego's competition, considering Lego's insane pricing. As usual, great work Jango Fett.

      It's a beautiful time to be a brick fan: there are so many great choices in themes and sets beyond Lego now, often a lot cheaper but very high quality.

    For $110 is honestly a steal compared to $200-$300 for a lego modular

      You can usually get it on sale for around $80. I love that you can these awesome modulars from Pantasy and Funwhole for a third the cost of Lego sets. My problem is that I'm going to run out of shelf space because I've snapped up so many of them :)

    Affordable and detailed, it's so tempting. It looks a little bit less elegant than Lego in some areas of the design, but I'd be nitpicking. The value is there for me.

    The ball thing in the roof garden may represent a ball or sphere fountain. That's what my eye makes it.

    Great review as always! I love the use of transparent windows to allow the interiors to be more easily visible! At 100 USD this is even better than the earliest Modulars from the leading brand, let alone the more recent ones that go up to $300!

    Love the Lighter Bluish Gray, I've definitely wanted a couple extra grayscale shades before, something a bit lacking in regular Lego especially with no in-between from a midtone gray straight to black

    I really like this set, from interior to exterior, from ground floor to top floor, it's a simple yet extremely pleasing looking modular building. It feels very warm and almost nostalgic. This level of detail and intricacy is the perfect balance personally. It's most stacking brick upon brick with some light sideways building alongside some simple but elegant looking interior details. Its very solid and wholesome looking, from when I first saw it, it instantly struck me of being reminiscent of the early lego modular buildings. I cannot praise this set enough.

    • @SO-ym3zs
      @SO-ym3zs 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well said. The building techniques are straightfoward, but it's so big, that it'll still take a decent amount of time to build, and it sure looks nice when finished. And the price is amazing.

  • @thebrickhiker
    @thebrickhiker 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    It is nice to see another modular from a different company other than FunWhole and Lego! The gym above the bakery is funny! It used to be where I lived that any weight loss center [Weight Watchers for example] was in a strip mall with a donut shop - like the dieters were being tested!
    I have the Lego Diner which also has a gym on the 2nd floor so this gives me a little reminder of that setup. I like that they didn't waste a lot of space with a boxing ring like Lego did.
    Ignoring price and just looking at the actual building inside and out, this gives me vibes of an earlier Lego modular. Not a particular model. Just in the design sense this reminds of a model that would come out sometime close to the Grand Emporium or Pet Shop. That is not meant as an insult! It just feels a bit like a trip down memory lane and I find that charming. And back then Lego modulars were $150, so this price point in modern day is amazing. I hope this is the start of more modulars from Pantasy.

    Jang, thx for doing some 'off' brand building blocks.
    I'm a huge Lego collector but lately I've had some good experiences with a Vonado off brand Iron Giant, a no-name Indiana Jones tank and a no-name Iron-Man mech. I ended up modding and using additional real Lego parts but the clutch for some of these knock offs are pretty close to Lego standards.
    The colors are not bad either. The tan tones for the Indy Tank were spot on the same as Lego, the grey's also and surprisingly the pearl golds were identical to Lego.
    The only issues I've encountered with off brands is their black pieces especially tiles are always scratched, marked and sometimes a cloudy charcoal color not jet-black like Lego. And almost all of their trans-color parts are dull. Lego's trans colors are vibrant, while the knock offs are dull, cloudy, almost like not enough pigment.

    In mid-2024 I stopped being a LEGO purist -- first, I've been put off by LEGO price increases and manipulative marketing techniques (FOMO, GWP, Insiders). Nothing LEGO does is really a reward or giveaway to show customer appreciation: each set price has built-in a few cents that is funnelled to these "gift" programs and only a percentage of people claim and benefit due to LEGO's statistically planned-to-profit predatory strategy. Thus LEGO actually makes money off limited GWP claims and unclaimed Insiders points. Anyway, second and as importantly: Pantasy and Funwhole are making amazing sets offering more for less money. Checkmate LEGO.

    • @SO-ym3zs
      @SO-ym3zs 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      Fantatical Lego purism seems illogical to me if you enjoy building bricks and have taken the time to objectively look at other brands. Would you only eat one cuisine or only listen to one band? Only ever drive one make of car or use one brand of microwave?
      I saw someone saying that they wanted to remain loyal to Lego. Loyalty is admirable, but Lego is not a person or ideal, it's a business, and their business is to take your money. You may enjoy their products, but they have done nothing for you that you didn't pay for. But to your happier point: it's wonderful that we can now get better and/or more feature-rich sets from other brands way cheaper than Lego, so that's a pretty easy decision, all other things being equal.

    • @jimwar211
      @jimwar211 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @@SO-ym3zs Lego purists generally have the same mindset as early Apple fans. "This brand must have popularity and high prices for a reason. Everything else must just be cheap Chinese knockoffs."
      And years ago, they would have been right. But because their brand has become complacent and started to stagnate in innovation, other brands are quickly catching up, even if many of the fans are taking too long to realise it.
      Seeing how the phone market is now (at least in variety of brands) makes me hopeful for the future of brick-building brands.

    • @SO-ym3zs
      @SO-ym3zs 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@jimwar211 Good points. I see a lot of unfounded assumptions among Lego purists, where they wildly accuse competing brands of being junk or being made in Chinese sweatshops and so forth. And yet they haven't actually tried them, don't realize some of them are European or American, or that Lego produces in China, etc. I also find it interesting how very different coverage of the hobby is between English-speaking sources and European ones. In English, there's a huge bias towards Lego coverage, whereas you see big channels in German and French jumping between different brands casually.

    Yeah, I'm guessing you're correct about the roof. It looks like a small section of tree, and then a concrete or some other type of bench to sit on.
    Imagine having to climb a ladder to get to your apartment. Moving in furniture would require a crane, and a backpack for groceries. If the gym was closed, you'd have to climb all three floors to get home.
    I like the idea that it's a sanctuary for blind seagulls up there. I guess they didn't have a mold to make pigeons.

The big flat panel windows, the greenery not matching up, it just feels like a first attempt and not a final product to me.

    Dear Jang, thank you for bringing this brand to my attention. Through the camera the quality of bricks looks exactly like Lego. Or is it other difference than just missing LEGO branding on studs?😊

      The quality of bricks is if anything better than Lego (no weird color variation). They're likely the best you'll find, manufactured by GoBricks.

    I'm planning to purchase the Pantasy X Sherlock Holmes Baker Street 221B Apartment 85014 which I personally find better looking than the Bakery. Do you plan to get it and review it? :)

    I'm not a modular collector but if I was, I think I'd rather have the gym and the bakery as 2 separate buildings with 2 levels each. I'm assuming they don't release the digital instructions for everyone because they're worried people might skip their sets and try and build it using Lego pieces they buy from Bricklink.

    Jang, you’re starting to persuade me not to buy Lego lol

    Meanwhile Lego: you want that brick in a different colour (like simple white)? Sorry, that would bankrupt the company.
    I must say Lego designers are even more brilliant, they are building around Lego's artificial limits (like minimized or maximized brick count, brick shapes, colours, prints, stickers, prices).

    The weights just laying around on the floor in the gym are unsafe. There’s my criticism.

    This one has great details but some of the design looks a bit cheap. Not sure why though, perhaps it’s just because we know it’s not Lego. Great video.

    I feel like the level of detail isn’t quite on par with LEGO, the building design doesn’t feel cohesive

    The resell value of lego is the only reason I dont buy more non lego. Atleast someday, my kids can sell off lego if they want and actually make a pretty penny.
    Non lego they would likely just give away as zero resell value for second hand sets.
    However, these non lego sets are great. The quality gap is decreasing so much. They also do things better like more printed pieces, lights and/or better price.
    Prices are climbing which is unfortunate but hopefully these non lego sets keep pricing low as it will help them sell more

      Good point, but there's also a market for OOP/retired non-Lego sets. And unlike Lego, the market isn't flooded with them, and that rarity can drive up value, though there's also a smaller group of potential buyers. And who knows what will happen to the Lego aftermarket in the long run? It's more than due for a major correction, like we've seen with other collectible "bubble bursts" over the years: comics, trading cards, Funkos, etc.

    In an effort to be fair when judging against the leading brand: A lot of the sets you've reviewed recently on this channel have been really great. This one doesn't quite do it for me. The color palette and even some of the design choices aren't quite up to modern standards, in my opinion. Thanks for the review!

      I highly doubt that... given that this channel was just launched a few days ago, dedicated exclusively to "Other Bricks," but ok.
