I think an optional billboard on the side of the jazz club building would have been a cool way to keep the outside clean while giving the option to add some visual flare.
Currently working on modifying this modular. I already have a custom pizzeria in my city, so I took out the pizzeria and expanded the main Jazz Club. Adding a downstairs bar, moving the stage to the second story, and the manager’s office up to the third.
How does that work if the downstairs doesn’t have a stage? Or the rehearsal area? I think it’d be cool to expand the space back and the hole to the downstairs stage so there could be a second floor viewing area 🤷♂️
May I suggest - (1) Remove the manager’s office (2) Create a bar/drinks counter on the second floor (3) Remove the tailor shop (and all mentions of a tailor) (4) Move the singer’s room to the second floor (above the pizzeria) (5) Seal the way between the jazz club and the pizzeria (while maintaining the back door access to the latter)
Or to just wait for the full reveal from Lego. I see way too many people judging sets based off a single leaked image and immediately writing it off, only for them to back track later on when we get to see clearer images from more angles
I think it’s a bit disappointing there’s no bar in the jazz club. But I appreciate space is tight. I don’t collect these but always enjoy your reviews as a chance to see inside these sets in detail. Great stuff! 😁
I think this set is fantastic but I can understand why it’s a bit awkward for some ppl! For me I got rid of the Taylor’s as I thought it was the most out of place and moved the dressing room there, and instead I put a bar at the top! Which fit much better and makes the whole building a jazz club, bar and restaurant with I think is fantastic :)
Agreed. He does a pretty good job of remaining pretty unbias. Some channels seem to praise everything. I wonder how Lego decides who they send free promos to. Jang deserves it more than anyone else I can think of tbh. Some actually seem downright ungrateful lol.
Thanks Jang for the detailed review, especially in showing us the interior spaces. This set certainly appears seems more spacious than the initial photos suggest, and the minifigure selection is probably one of the best in the modular series. The price is a tough pill to swallow but it is simply the consequence of Lego's general price increase since last summer. Overall this should be a great addition to modular building collectors as well as people who enjoy the source material.
I think my only complaint is the lack of texture on the main building. The pizzeria is amazing, but the actual club feels really…as you said, plain, especially compared to the fantastic texture work done in the Boutique Hotel. The one thing that this one absolutely has over it though is the incredible way it does windows and, specifically, frames. The stained glass ones look absolutely amazing from the exterior and were a joy to build. Not a fan of how “gappy” the concave entrance is, but overall I really love what they did with this one. Hopefully next year’s is as good!
I am planning on buying the jazz club set sometime but I watched this just to make sure I was doing the right thing, and it seems that I am! Jang, you are my most trusted Lego reviewer, I’ve watched you when I’ve needed you since 2015
This set is a refreshing return to form. While I have personally enjoyed some of the more experimental models over the years (The garage and diner coming to mind) nothing beats a nice, simple set of buildings that does its gimmick extremely well. I will actually be picking this up after skipping the last couple.
Great review as always Jang! I definitely agree with you when you say this set isn’t evocative. The interior feels entirely vacuous to me, so the overall set doesn’t really encourage any meaningful play patterns. The brick bank and detective’s office, even the police station, all give prompts to create a cycle of narrative between the brick bank’s chimney, the detective’s office’s contraband smuggling, and the police station’s doughnut thief. Whereas here, I feel that these different elements here: the club, pizzeria, green room, seamstress, and greenhouse, are either not fully realised, or do not fit together concisely enough. In this case, I think that more important than a greenhouse or a seamstress would have been at least a mini-fridge or that curtain between the pizzeria and the club. I can just imagine a singer on the stage glancing in that direction and making eye contact with the pizza chef of all people. That really sucks any sense of synergy out of the set for me. Beyond that, I’m very unimpressed with the stage, surely the set’s centrepiece. It looks so small and crammed with no ornamentation or any suggestion of steps. The way that it interrupts the floor pattern shows how poorly integrated it is. You’ve also got the dreadful looking chairs and table in front of the pizzeria. Compared to something like the chairs and tables outside the cafe in the assembly square set, they feel incredibly lazy. With all of these, from large, glaring problems to aesthetic minutia, and then that price, I can’t say I feel that as much thought was put into this set as those that have come before it. Something about it feels very lazy. Maybe this is just the natural direction to take these sets now that they have the ICONS designation- more of a focus on exterior presentation and flashy ideas for the interior than a focus on creating a setpiece for narrative play. Thanks for all the new reviews! I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on those new helmets revealed today 😁
Another interesting detail i noticed at 15:32: That printed sheet music tile seems to be “When You Wish Upon a Star,” albeit without the right key signature.
I noticed something cool I just wanted to share, but not related to this set. In the big Friends set where you decorate your own apartment. That empty apartment space goes really well with the smaller "character room" sets. I just felt like there was amazing synergy there. I kinda wish modulars would do an apartment building, and then have a lot of mini "room" sets you could buy seperately, and then decorate them how you want. I just thought it was a great idea.
This is definitely a very different Modular, the pizzaria could have been it’s own Modular too bad it got included here, it doesn’t make sense to me eating pizza while listening to jazz, and the smell of fire might not fit with the jazz atmosphere
I'm just googling jazz clubs, lots have restaurants/bars inside, many are on strips like this with businesses next door, seems normal that it is just another store on a street.
I do think the sides are too plain. Some dark red and maybe some red-brown textured bricks on the side could add some much needed texture. Awesome review as usual Jang
I wish they added a bit more detail to the interior of the buildings. The kinda of feel like it's just the bear bones essentials. Like there could have been a seat in the pizzeria. I do understand that the price per piece will go up over time, but still. Then again, maybe they want customer to be able to customize it ourselves. I don't know. I just feel like a bit more detail would have been nice. Great Review 👍 👌
I think Lego knows their customer. 80% of these will sit on a shelf and rarely be opened up. 10% will go in the middle of a city and never be opened up. Last 10% will stay in a box and be resold in 10 years for twice the sales price.
Would of been interesting if the entire ground floor was the jazz club with the second floor being the pizzeria and extra viewing area with balcony. They could of included a dumb waiter to allow easy pizza delivery downstairs And then the third floor could of been manager and performer area.
I honestly haven't been a fan of how they want to squeeze another small building in, as I feel like it's been happening too often, leaving the main attraction some to be desired. Bookshop was fine, police station was alright, but in this case it feels annoying, as a bar would have helped, and it already feels a bit cramped
the difference between this and many of the most popular older modulars becomes clearest when you put it next to the Assembly Square. The Assembly Square looks almost realistic, with a very balanced color scheme. Next to it, this one looks like the toy that it is - bright and blocky, with all the colors available mixed in somewhere for extra toyishness. Even the Diner was less busy-looking, plus that one had a good reason for its flashy colors. Can Jamie come back please?
The only "down side" I had the first time I saw its pictures is that, thanks to an optical illusion, I thought we'd have another modular over a 1.5 baseplate area. It's not this time I'll fill the space left by the Assembly Square. 😁 Another down side (this time a real one) is the lack of minifigures for audience. Most are workers on the building itself, so they can only enjoy the show if they have some free time. But it's an amazing looking building anyway. I'm only curious if these buildings that look like multiple buildings but are in fact a single one with several internal connections are that common in real life - like the Detective Office also was.
I can't not see this one as a retired and repurposed old firehouse. Between the Jazz Club's Facade and the 2nd Floor overlooking the first it is similar enough to the Fire Brigade that it just jumps out at you. And there are tons of such buildings in real life. The big shift in Fire Apparatusff3 between Pre-WW2 and Post War in the US left a lot of older Firehouses, often built in the horse drawn era, too small for the new trucks.
Not one of the strongest modulars, I would say. It's nice, because they all are, but that's just it. Looking closer I think the biggest problem with it is that the Jazz Club is too small to fit everything that it needs, and the Pizzeria is too small for everything that needs. Both could have been its own full-size ground floor, but now that we have these we probably won't get to see either in the future. I was personally hoping for an Italian restaurant pizza place one day, with a similar vibe as the Parisian Restaurant. But now that will likely never happen. I also think that the stained glass windows look really out of place on this style of building, but maybe that's just me. This is one that I won't buy in a hurry. Maybe in a year or so, if it shows up somewhere on a discount.
The only way modular buildings I have so far are this one, and the boutique hotel. I much prefer this one. But this one was also my first, so maybe it just felt more special.
Not my favorite modular building, unfortunately. Still waiting for a school, a museum!, a small hospital/doctor and a railway station. Also an old looking building (romanesque/gothic) would be nice, but I'm affraid this isn't going to happen.
So MANY of the ‘leftover’ pieces can still be used in the set. I see a brass flute, an extra potted plant, a pizza slice for a patron and a magic wand for the magician. 😉
I agree that the interior layout doesn't make sense, but with a bit of modification I think it could be improved and personalized by the builder. I do like the look from the outside, interesting colors and shape to any city.
I’m hoping the rumored pizza truck GWP that’s supposed to come in February is true, I didn’t get this set on release day because of that, breaking a 15 year tradition. I get inflation and all but the price is really creeping up there.
The design is better than some of the modulars in the previous years but i already have the pizza van and many other food businesses in my city and a jazz club is not needed in my city
The Pizzaria should have been a bar for the Jazz Club. If I buy the Jazz Club I will convert it. My son and I are building a Pizzaria based on City Pizza xtra stickers and City Pizza van.
The club really suffers from the lack of a bar. Lego probably didn't include one because of their no alcohol policy, but there's wine glasses here so it's already implied. I think you could probably put in a really small one if you removed the toilet and then it would be perfect.
The wall between the stairs and office on the 2nd floor takes too much space away. It would give space to enlarge the view on the first floor or add some other features for the office.
Great set and revieuw. Its a shame imo that they have the pizzaria open to the Jazzclub. A wall there would have been more nicer easyer. Maybe with a table of drinks in ftont of it or a little bar??? But who i to complain about a further great and delitefull set. Thanjs again Jang.
I wonder if the earpiece on the bassist is meant to be an in-ear monitor. We can't see the sides of the other band members due to their hair styles normally so it might be. 🤷♂️
Pretty cool build, even if the space inside is not perfect and a bit tight in the Club itself, but if you wanted something bigger, it would cost more and these modular are already quite expensive as they are. And will someone tell Lego that they can't print light colors on dark colors for the minifigs! The white and yellow prints simply come out too dark and they look bad! There, I said it too, Jang. 😉
I agree with Jang - the building looks a bit too plain around the sides, especially on the back. I would have liked to see some inset windows or flower boxes, although I understand that for most people displaying the model, the front is what's important. Still, at this price point, it seems reasonable to expect a bit more.
The pizzeria/taylor building bugged me in the previews, it's great but feels a bit out of place. And seeing the review, I wish they had left it out and gave more room for the club.
The mic is a bit funny... I don't remember ever seeing one in that past that does not have silver (or gold?) ink at the top. Definitely would have looked better if this one did too!
As a musician, I can assert that playing on a stage with barely enough room, is TOTALLY realistic!! LOL
I think an optional billboard on the side of the jazz club building would have been a cool way to keep the outside clean while giving the option to add some visual flare.
good point!
POP : Playing 4 chords to thousands of people.
JAZZ: Playing thousands of chords to 4 people.
Paradox of Jang reviews (too good) is that I don’t want to watch the ones for sets I really want so that I am delighted/surprised when building them..
Me too haha.. gotta keep some secrets for ones I'm buying
Currently working on modifying this modular. I already have a custom pizzeria in my city, so I took out the pizzeria and expanded the main Jazz Club. Adding a downstairs bar, moving the stage to the second story, and the manager’s office up to the third.

(4) Move the singer’s room to the second floor (above the pizzeria)
(5) Seal the way between the jazz club and the pizzeria (while maintaining the back door access to the latter)
The one we were waiting for! It’s become best practice for me to reserve judgement on any set until I’ve heard from Jang. Thank you!
Lego probably can't do a proper bar anyway, considering they wouldn't directly suggest alcohol is being served.
I don’t know if lego would feel comfortable putting a bar in, but I agree it certainly wouldn’t feel out of place in a jazz club. They all have them!
Ive seen more than a couple comments complaining about no bar lol. Regardless of the 18+ tag, its still Lego. Gotta protect the image.
There’s a jazz club in Manchester (UK) with a pizzeria built in, this set makes me very nostalgic for it!
I love the subtle humor JANG has when his sig fig’s face appears in a set
What I like about your videos is that the color is real.
Others often intensify the colors to make the bricks look "good", yet unreal.
Really love Jang's review. It makes us normal citizen appreciate what to buy from LEGO especially when we're not sponsored.
yup. his are the best on the internets
Agreed. He does a pretty good job of remaining pretty unbias. Some channels seem to praise everything. I wonder how Lego decides who they send free promos to. Jang deserves it more than anyone else I can think of tbh. Some actually seem downright ungrateful lol.

Jangbricks modular/big building set reviews are my therapy

I so love these long in-detail videos because I cannot buy many of them, so at least, I can see how beautiful the sets are.
Yet another excellent review Jang. Can't wait to build mine!
Another interesting detail i noticed at 15:32: That printed sheet music tile seems to be “When You Wish Upon a Star,” albeit without the right key signature.
11:55 They could easily get rid of the whole ticket booth, since you have free entrance through the pizza place anyway :P
I always appreciate your videos! Having no "sponsorship" from LEGO make your opinion very valuable!
i love all the choices that were made on this set personally
I noticed something cool I just wanted to share, but not related to this set.

Great video! Really brought the set together in a way other reviews haven't.
It's really amazing to see the way they can pack in so many little angular structures!
Be nice to have a bar with bar stools under the arch between the the night club and pizzeria. There could be a wall for drinks where the counter is.
This is definitely a very different Modular, the pizzaria could have been it’s own Modular too bad it got included here, it doesn’t make sense to me eating pizza while listening to jazz, and the smell of fire might not fit with the jazz atmosphere

@@kommodore6691that and I don't think lego would do a bar, although this is a 18+ ish set, no?
I also would have liked a sign outside the pizzeria
I do think the sides are too plain. Some dark red and maybe some red-brown textured bricks on the side could add some much needed texture. Awesome review as usual Jang
There it is. The compactness of this sort of build is what makes that A frame cabin look way too large.
Oooh, I'll have to watch this over supper when I get home from work
Santa joke made me chuckle. Awesome video thank you.
I’ve realised why I don’t like the pizzeria pastel yellow colour scheme - with the hanging baskets it has the feel of a Lego Friends set.
Great Review 👍 👌
tbf, this kind of tiny pizzeria IRL usually does not have seats.
I think Lego knows their customer. 80% of these will sit on a shelf and rarely be opened up. 10% will go in the middle of a city and never be opened up. Last 10% will stay in a box and be resold in 10 years for twice the sales price.
LEGO could have put in some masonry bricks on the plain dark red side to help give a little more detail, but other than that, the set looks awesome.
Yeah I thought the same thing
Would of been interesting if the entire ground floor was the jazz club with the second floor being the pizzeria and extra viewing area with balcony. They could of included a dumb waiter to allow easy pizza delivery downstairs

This set is growing on me.

Wow, what a great looking set!
This. Is. INCREDIBLE. I love it.
As a musician, I can assure you that the small after thought of a stage is 100% accurate in pretty much every gig I’ve played. 😂
Hi, thanks for the review! I guess the box in the dressing room is the rabbit's basket.
The only "down side" I had the first time I saw its pictures is that, thanks to an optical illusion, I thought we'd have another modular over a 1.5 baseplate area. It's not this time I'll fill the space left by the Assembly Square. 😁

You rock Jang, love your videos!
Man I want a Modular so bad this will probably be my first! I’m trying to decide between this one and the home alone house
16:01 I wanna see how a Wolverine Minifigure would look on that couch!
So cool! I love your videos!
I can't not see this one as a retired and repurposed old firehouse. Listening to your video while building a set myself! Very chill and informative as always. Great to see Lego having a fun variety of figures and such
Drummer, bassist, singer (but alas, needs a saxophone or trombone player too)
An incredibly polarizing set. Still undecided. Thanks for the excellent review nonetheless.
A Citizen Brick plant would be perfect on that rooftop garden
Man, an updated version of Pepper Roni would have been an AWESOME callback as a pizza delivery guy.
I believe it's a Traxon 90's mood light in the manager's room. Recognized it immediately. Designer must have had one IRL.
Not one of the strongest modulars, I would say. It's nice, because they all are, but that's just it. Looking closer I think the biggest problem with it is that the Jazz Club is too small to fit everything that it needs, and the Pizzeria is too small for everything that needs. Great review Jang! I’m curious tho, why aren’t you part of LAN? Out of all the reviewers, you deserve to be in it no question!
Any musician will tell you that those corner-style stages are barely big enough in real life. LEGO is just being accurate!
That might also represent an in-ear monitor on the bass player. Just saying, these can be used for multiple purposes.
I want that pizzeria as a stand alone set. 😆 It's a pretty set but I think I prefer the the boutique hotel and sanctum sanctorum
The only way modular buildings I have so far are this one, and the boutique hotel. I much prefer this one. But this one was also my first, so maybe it just felt more special.
The earpiece seems anachronistic considering the level of tech displayed elsewhere in the set.
Thank you Jang.
I agree that the interior layout doesn't make sense, but with a bit of modification I think it could be improved and personalized by the builder. I do like the look from the outside, interesting colors and shape to any city.
I put mine up against the donut shop on the Police station I feel that's the best look
I find this to be the best modular since the police station.
I'm thinking the drinks are provided by the pizzeria, which could be why they're connected
9:13 there’s more space in this model than there is in most real NYC jazz clubs
No way do most NYC jazz clubs have only 6 seats
I’m hoping the rumored pizza truck GWP that’s supposed to come in February is true, I didn’t get this set on release day because of that, breaking a 15 year tradition. I get inflation and all but the price is really creeping up there.
The tailor aka fancy Jang
The design is better than some of the modulars in the previous years but i already have the pizza van and many other food businesses in my city and a jazz club is not needed in my city
The Pizzaria should have been a bar for the Jazz Club. If I buy the Jazz Club I will convert it. My son and I are building a Pizzaria based on City Pizza xtra stickers and City Pizza van.
The jazz club side of this modular could be used as a corner building because it’s so clean.
It would give space to enlarge the view on the first floor or add some other features for the office.
you could put two people on the couch, just rotate one by 90 degrees :)
I can get on board with the singer printing by imagining it as a mesh part of the dress but yeah as intended the prints just aren't up to standard imo
Is that a veritech fighter from robotech on the second front he bottom right shelf
I really wish they would stop shrinking the Modular’s. This one has three floors and the details are great but it’s not even 12 inches tall
Jazz, Sewing and pizza? This is obviously based on pixar's Soul. And I'm not complaining at all
I wonder if the earpiece on the bassist is meant to be an in-ear monitor. We can't see the sides of the other band members due to their hair styles normally so it might be. 🤷♂️
love the build
now that you mention it, it is weird that there is no bar...
Is it just me or are several floor plates on the top-floor a slightly different shade? I.e. more quality problems?
I think shouda got rid of the pizza place and just made it into a full bar/club with tables
The pizzeria/taylor building bugged me in the previews, it's great but feels a bit out of place. And seeing the review, I wish they had left it out and gave more room for the club.
I'm having a little problem with kerning on the "JAZZCLUB" sign. need more space between JAZZ and CLUB.
The yellow bricks couldve been done a bit better imo. Even from a distance you can see slight variations in the shade
The mic is a bit funny... I don't remember ever seeing one in that past that does not have silver (or gold?) ink at the top. Definitely would have looked better if this one did too!
you can really see the difference between the yellows
Such a good set
Still trying to figure out if the bass player has a in ear monitor or if it’s meant to a cochlear implant
