"Cheap" Chinese RC cars do actually have their place. If you're looking for something not too expensive that you just want to have fun with and throw over a couple of little jumps, things like this are perfect. Look at the HBX 16889.. that thing is an absolute unit, it's practically legendary in the affordable category. Keep reviewing them, Phil cos I love these things, and I know many others do.. 😉👍

1500 lipo , WP 1060 esc with Dumborg trannie , 3 wire servo ( $50 yikes ! ) Stock Motor & oil filled shocks . ( rips thru plastic dogbones at an alarming rate so may have overdone it ; esc is the key here )

I think reviews on the more inexpensive rc’s are of high importance! For many, it’s their way to get into the hobby to see if it’s for them before spending more on the big name brands.
A channel as large and far reaching as yours provides that valuable insight!
Keep doing what you’re doing Phil!

Plus the reviews make it easier to justify a purchase once all the issues are pointed out. Case and point I have 4 cars at the moment 1/12, 1/10, 1/10 and a 1/8. Eight batteries four 2s, three 3s and one 4s. Upgraded every vehicle with new shocks, tires, esc and brushless combos. New bodies lights and all............I didn't even top out $1000 in total because everything came from Banggood and AliExpress.
I have 4 vehicles, combined are cheaper than one Traxxass xmaxx crap and cheaper to maintain and upgrade. By the way my fleet hasn't been beat by any popular name brand rc in a speed run or bash.
In conclusion I wouldn't call it a cheap knockoff, if it's reasonable and embarrassing the🖕out of a Traxxass.

The hardest part of bringing people into the hobby is justifying the price to them. Even $100 seems excessive to most people used to toy grade products, your reviews help to better recommend low price products that will fit the bill for the reliability to fun ratio! Thanks for all you do!

Echoing a lot of other people on here, I have really appreciated your reviews across the spectrum of the hobby! I'm new to the RC world, ironically because our Traxxas trophy-loving neighbor actually turned me off to it when I was a kid. RCs were just fast and loud and not that interesting to me. BUT I became a big fan of Japanese Kei trucks / cars and unusual (aka non-US market) European vehicles in 1:1 scale.
When I came across the WPL D-series trucks on Amazon, I was skeptical if they were worth buying, but your reviews confirmed that it was worth the money. I've since built up a basic 2wd D12 for light scale trail crawling, and it's been a ton of fun! I'm already looking at building another D-series with a 4x4 chassis to tackle harder terrain with friends (some who I'm introducing to the hobby now as well!) I just really love that I have a new way to enjoy foreign vehicles that I might not ever own for real, so thank you!!

The cheap stuff? Disassemble, paint, try new parts and drive then in the house and outside with no fear. Keep doing what you're doing, it's awesome!
And I LOVE the weird translation issues on the cars... one of my favorites is a little 4wd buggy that says Super Fast Headphones on the side, lol. We affectionately call it, Headphones.

I sometimes have more fun with my cheap wltoys, udirc, than with the much more expensive ones, because they can take a fair beating and apart from the wait parts are cheaper when something does brake, which with the current rate of inflation and cost of living is something that is a concern. They also can use smaller areas etc. Your reviews help us find the bargains and the flops, plus my 5yo is finally getting the hang of rcs, and I am not letting him loose with anything fast. I appreciate a review of bunch of rc stuff, expensive, cheap, odd, all good. Sometimes cheap stuff turns out to be decent. Case in point my little rrarlo buggy I got on the pre order has turned out to be a pretty decent little car - for less than a lot of Horizon or Traxxas stuff. Yeah for kids too or someone who you know will trash an rc, why invest in something that will get ruined? I’d like to think everyone takes (some) level of care of their stuff but we know sometimes an rc is just trashed straight away…

Honestly love that you review cheaper stuff. There used to be another small American channel I believe that would mostly review cheaper air stuff but would occasionally other stuff. I've been in rc for over 20 years and I will still absolutely buy a Chinese rc car every once and awhile. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the good ones they just aren't mainstream so they have less support. It's up to you to do your research just like with anything else.
I will never understand this complaint. I've seen plenty of times someone s buys a $40 cheap rc just to see if they would even like it. An with the way rc resale is now a days I don't blame anyone for looking for a cheaper option to try out before they spends 600 on a real machine and it's just not for them an they have to resell at a huge loss in some cases.

I've never questioned why you review 'cheap' rc cars. Have you seen the name brand price tags!? It's insane!! Sure, sometimes it's worth it, but for everybody else, thinking about getting into the hobby, or back into the hobby after a long hiatus, or, simply want to try something a bit cheaper, a bit 'lighter' and a bit different, there are tons, TONS of options. Tomley RC saves me loads of time and money doing what he does. I'm also of a similar opinion of him 90% of the time, thus, am a WPL fan boy, have a few WLToys I absolutely adore, and, generally give the underdog a chance before I consider spending top dollar for something that still needs upgrading, and adjusting, and learning, like any other.
Thanks for what you do, have always done, and what you continue to do good sir. Much appreciated.

I LOVED RC vehicles when I was a kid, but never had the chance to own a proper RC vehicle. Infrequently got the $20 dollar Walmart ones instead. Where I grew up (Rural America) and I'd say most kids in my area. There parents would never spend over 100 bucks on an RC vehicle. Also, RC shops still don't exist near me. Unless a 2 hour drive on a couple highways counts as close to you. The best thing I convinced my mother to get me was that awesome XMods brand from Radio Shack. That was 60 bucks I think. Got the Evo VIII.
I think people now having (mostly) direct access to the Chinese market has allowed many kids to have the cool fast durable fixable RC cars that parents are willing to actually buy, because they can actually afford to. I appreciate their existence. I appreciate guys like you doing reviews for them. Even I myself would never buy a Traxxas, unless I have FU money for an XMAXX. I'm not interested in paying 50% to 100% more for something that is maybe all round 15% better or sometimes actually worse. If you can buy replacements parts, get extra batteries in the box, and go basically the same speed for $114 instead for $199. Why not do that?

    Nice video as always 👍🏼

My “Chinese junk” wl toys 124019 is awesome and was $105. Goes 32mph. When u land too hard or wreck it breaks the axels which are easy to fix and $12 for 4. I keep extras and beat the piss outta it. I absolutely love it.

So many snobs and gatekeepers out there. You don't get many dads who are willing to shell out £700 on a buggy for their kid, knowing that they'll either wreck it or get bored with it after a week 😅

Great video Phil. Personally I like the "Cheap Chinese" reviews you do. It's how I got into the hobby. The people moaning are probably big company fanboys/girls that forget where they started or went for the big toys without a clue about what they where doing. That truck may not be the fastest but it would be great for a kid. Keep them coming buddy!!!

Haha I've forgotten about this. I did the test but without speed checker cause my friend took it.
It does look slow in your video 😂😂 in my video it was speeding over grass that made it jump here there probably made it looked fast haha
Ya toughness wise it's really tough.
Thank you for the review 🙏🙏

I like what gets reviewed, Modern day cheap rc's are far superior to many of the hobby grade rc's from back in the day and are perfect for thrashing around the backyard or park. Modern racing kits are now so speciliased they are near useless, and the over powered bigger rc's need a shitload of space.

I got into the hobby as an adult 12 years ago and was surprised at some of the elitistism that I ran across when researching what to buy etc. I have a fairly large collection of ground and heli RC now and have purchased everything from the cheap stuff (that is of high value and decent performance) all the way up to pro race e-truggies, buggies and big money monster trucks. All of these kinds of RC are enjoyable to work on and use. I find it particularly fun to make "cheap" RCs performed far above what many expect. My Exceed Mad Torque 1/8 crawler provided hours of fun to upgrade among several other HobbyKing classics like the Trooper SCT 4x4. All different types of RC can be enjoyable at multiple price points. Currently waiting on $40 WPL C24 crawler and I'm just as excited to work on that project as I am to rehab an Infraction 6s project I picked up recently. Keep an open mind!

Any major online marketplace have these models in spades. And, if you dont like this color of body, or that style of wheel, wait 5 minutes, and a new 'model' from a different company will be on the next page.
So, all in all, thank you for tyrin to keep up!

Honestly, I really like how you review these. A lot of these cars do end up living up to the reputation of "cheap chinesium" but some of them end up either being legitimately good (like many of the HBX cars) or diamonds in the rough (like the WLToys 104001, which is literally a 2016 XRAY XB4 clone that can be turned into a top-end race car with just a few parts from the top-end kit it's based on).
Anyway, I want to say the car in the promotional video isn't even the car they're advertising. It looks like a 1/10th scale or even 1/8th scale basher truggy. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if there's an ARRMA Vorteks under the lid of the car they used in the footage, and that they just painted up an E-REVO body to look like the car they're actually producing.
