    New to this channel very good in depth review. Superior to the usual 15 minutes allocated by car review channels. Quite the polished finished article. I will give this BMW a look around and maybe a test drive if I like what I see in the flesh.

    I like it even more with the dual exhaust and the little tweaks in the front bumper. For me it's a shame they didn't manage to fit three independent seats on the second row. Good option anyway, and great review as usual!

    Best MPV I have driven. I had 7 Renault scenic's/grand scenic's but this BMW is soooooooo-nice, better steering, more responsive, more economical, more power & if you want it more speed. The Scenic/grand Scenic does have more space though. Both my wife & I feel safe. Finally it has a timing chain not a belt

      It is OK for 3 adults for a short journeys. Great for 3 kids on longer journeys. Gott a USBB port for keeping their phones and gadgets charged too..Major issue is ; rear visibility is very poor with this car.
      Think I will swap for an X2.

    My wife has the Active Tourer 220i. We’re really happy with the car. It’s spacious, the interior is very solid and well built. The B48 mated with the 7 speed auto Works beautifully. There is a lot of torque from low revs and the car just moves with little input. The 220i Active Tourer is as fast as a hot hatch too which surprises many. Nice job BMW.

    The 4 wheel drive 220d Xdrive is a pleasure to drive, just over 300miles on the clock now and loving it. really comfy leather seats, gorgeous interior and a decent amount of space for a young family of 6 ..was surprised how fast it was from a standing start, feels like zero turbo lag, you can pull out safely without worrying about getting upto speed, it's very nippy for what it is 0-60 in just over 7seconds is not bad for a 7 seater:)

    Great and enjoying review of the BMW Gran Tourer. Thanks for sharing it. I drive an Active Tourer (F45) 220D 8 shift (M-sport). After several years of driving E91 and F31, this F45 (with adjustable suspension) does certainly not have the superb drivebility of the F31, especially in fast corners. But the higher seating position and usefull storing compartiments will not bring me back to the low seating BMW´s.

    the new BMW X1 has the same new features for 2018-2019. Dual exhaust for all engines (i think only if the car has xDrive?), the new gearshifter (best decision ever i think) and the engine type is now shown on the trunk, not on the sides. Except the headlights don't come with adaptive ones yet. i prefer the real angel eyes LED's more than those adaptive ones which are only half circles.

    Very helpful review. I bought a second-hand 218d Luxury model a few weeks ago in Japan. It was in excellent condition - a 2016 build that had only done 33,000 km. Diesel is much cheaper than petrol in Japan, so this will be a good way to get around that's not too expensive to run.

    2 1/2 year ownership of a 216d lux auto, 45mpg average over 86,000 miles. Only downside is that with the 1.5d 3 pot engine you can't overtake unless you have a runway length of straight road visible. Has been a great car, very comfortable seats (lux leather), good sat nav system. Just eats the miles. Only thing I would change in buying another is I would go for the larger 218d

      I currently drive a diesel Mazda 5 ts2 2011 model, and average around 20k per year, but that is short runs on a regularly basis back n forth and not so much moterway, I only do that occasionally. I did have to get my injectors replaced but lucky enough the car was still under a 6 month warranty.
      That's put me off diesel a bit....
      Is the petrol as nippy as the diesel?
      I find my 1.6 diesel much more responsive than my 2.0 petrol Kia Carens.

    Surely, in the looks department, these handsome 2er MPVs are the antithesis to their sister car, the Mini Countryman. As AJ infers, this is a car which blends practicalities for a growing family with the qualities of a BMW at the attainable end of the market. The fact that it's not RWD is academic and I dare say that owners are really glad that BMW build a car specifically for them. Nice work, AJ and Jonas.

      Antithesis is quite a strong word, considering that the interior of this car, and that of my loaded MINI Countryman S All4 are extremely similar (and definitely on-par, in terms of materials quality). They have an extremely fraternal look, that's for sure.

    I've driven the SMax (2011, Titanium with sports package) for a while and that one was really nice to drive but I guess, the new SMax models would be improved by now. And a few weeks ago I sat as a Codriver in that GranTourer with the 2.0l Turbodiesesel with 190 hp - I think those two can be compared pretty much with each other - bedides the Ford is not THAT luxurious inside as the BMW.

    The only two problems i have with my Active Tourer are the A pilar and the runflat tyres.
    Like you said the A pilar blocks the view which is really dangerous in tight corners and the runflat tyres are not comfortable and noisy.
    The shorter version holds much better than the Grand Tourer and is way more agile in town.
    Rather than that i’m really happy with my Active Tourer 220 D Xdrive, that’s a real premium in the family car segment and it’s a very reliable car. After 3.5 years i still don’t have any problems and enjoys driving it…

    It's a shame BMW doesn't sell this model in Canada. Neither Mercedes or BMW offer anything with 7 seats for a family here at a reasonable price. I would have bought one of these over the new Tiguan that sits on our driveway now. Maybe one day it will be available here.

      Chad Pattyson North America isn't in demand of compact MPVs as they don't provide as much space as people carriers on offer there. My dad has one and it's quite cramped for a seven seater. Nevertheless it's a great car

  • @harryformbickerbickerbeast7850
    @harryformbickerbickerbeast7850 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Having owned the seven seater Diesel 150 BHP model for a year now. Fantastic. Except for the A pillar blind spot. You have to be aware of this. You have to become acrobatic at roundabouts check & double check for other vehicles in this damned blind spot. But I love it & I will not be changing it . My wife and I feel safe and comfortable even at maximum permitted speeds. ( sometimes above the maximum Ie: when overtaking which it does very very well. The extra space of a seven seater is used for TWO Mobility scooters. Driver and passenger are 85 years of age. with well over 1,000,000 miles of driving experience (& my wife does not drive). I love this car and will put up with the blind spot, it gives my neck muscles exercise.

      Autogefühl thanx for your prompt reply! I ve already seen your review regarding peugeot 5008. I have two same offers for these cars, peugeot 1600 cc petrol 180 hp gt line (full extra) and bmw 218i petrol 140 hp luxury line with lots of extras (among others navigation plus, auto striptronic 7 gears, M steering, panorama roof, harman kadron sound bars, led headlights, 3 rows of seats etc). As i said the offers are the same. I love bmw’s road behavior and its premium interior but i am concerned if it is comfortable enough for a 5 member family (especially for three kids on the middle row of seats). Peugeot is probably more comfortable. If i understand correctly the main difference between bmw active tourer and gran tourer is the third row of seats (is that correct?). What are your thoughts/suggestions?thanx again in advance.

      YES, Worst thing about the car is the front pillars. you can lose entire vehicles in the blind spot on roundabouts. Its probably the only reason I wouldn't buy another. It is very dependent on seating position, my wife doesn't have the issue as she is shorter than me.

    You can't deny that interior, the exterior isn't a winner for me though, BMW are being clever here though, this segment is getting less and less saturated thanks to competitors running off to saturate the SUV segment and Crossover Segment. A digital dash would have looked ultra cool or is that an option? It would be good if you mention when talking about features whether they are standard or option! As a 7 seater it's not really usable it would need to be as long as a VW Touran as an example.

    • @andreavaduva8243
      @andreavaduva8243 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Will, the fact that the dashboard is not fully digital is not such a disadvantage because if you go for the higher version with the HUD, beside the fact that you can change the information displayed on the HUD, the dashboard has an integrated digital display below the traditional two, which are so nicely integrated that you don't realize is there until you start your car

      @@waleedwilly5052 Sure ! I don't trust the 3 cylinders. But the 2000 cc with 150 hp is certainly sufficient.
