18:43 - Rich, you have no idea how hard it was to grapple with the fact that such a sociopathic person managed to force myself and the first /r/SteamDeck moderation team almost completely out of the picture, silencing us from speaking out by banning us from the subreddit and blocking all of us from her account, and having the Reddit admins basically tell us to kick rocks. All because they created the subreddit. I was really hoping that the news would get covered back then, but it really felt as if no one cared... until the place got progressively worse and worse.
So the fact that she's been finally removed from power is nothing short of sweet vindication. Because **WE** were making that place great during the preorder era (not just the modteam, but the community) without a single input from Wasabi, and they did absolutely nothing but coast on our hard work and act as if she was royalty. To think that she felt so threatened by an internal letter of us simply airing our grievances that she flew off the handle and basically condemned us. I really hope for the best with /r/SteamDeck now, because Wasabi held that place back from being a phenomenal resource and community hotspot for all Steam Deck owners.

Felt like I really needed to lead with that comment about the subreddit. It's like being able to talk after being voiceless for a long time.
      Here's to a good week overall! 😊
As someone who owns several Steam Controllers, an official Steam Controller 2 would be absolutely lovely. This DeckPad idea looks novel, but it's definitely going to need a lot of work in regards to comfortability and usability.
In regards to Ryujinx... I suppose it was only a matter of time. If Nintendo knew about Yuzu, then they definitely knew about Ryujinx. I'm sure there's a bunch of forks and other projects under wraps, but we can clearly see now that emulation efforts for that platform are going to be volatile for a good while. Still annoyed that Russ got another copyright strike on their channel for Nintendo content, but it's clear that they just have to steer clear from showcasing any of their stuff from here on out.
Remember what I said about those EmuDeck Machines in a previous comment? I didn't hate it, but I had a feeling that the EmuDeck team were biting off way more than they could chew, and that there's not much of a market they can capture for something like that when we already have so many different ways to engage in retro games emulation, from the Steam Deck to the wide spectrum of Anbernic devices. I'm fine with the project being shelved because it means they can move on to more important things.

Thanks for speaking on this. Looking back, I could have been more vocal about the problems. I tried to moreso be positive about other good spaces like r/SteamDeckHQ but there's value in speaking on the poor experiences that real people had.

    • @SylverstoneKhandr
      @SylverstoneKhandr 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

@@FanTheDeck Totally understandable. If anything, it goes to show that the Deck was bigger than just that place and the terrible moderation there wasn't going to hold back the community from being awesome. The alternatives (like /r/SteamDeckHQ) did step up and remind people what a good curated community space should be like.

    • @David-ki2xt

Just so people can get an idea of the situation: the words "mod" and "this sub", among others, were banned so that people could not freely discuss about the state of the sub. No wonder it devolved into it being about pictures of steam decks, "recommend me a game" posts or just blind praise. Absolutely no substance whatsoever, hope it'll improve now!

Arrrrgh, no no. The edges on that controller should not be parallel. It's only comfortable like that on the Deck because of the spacing between the arms is wider. You have to minimise the amount a user's wrists bend. For a narrow controller like that, it needs to taper inwards, Ergonomics, people.

I personally think ARM support is for the Valve Deckard VR Headset, basically they need ARM chip to do tracking as X86 not supported, but they also want it to do 2D gaming as well not only VR, so it becomes kinda like Vision Pro an all in one device but focused in gaming, for that to happen they need to have games supporting ARM and SteamOS also integrated with SteamVR.
Basically it's an ultimate gaming device if Valve get their hands on a really powerful ARM chip

The developer for Steam Deck XR also does Breezy Desktop for Gnome. It works really, really well for productivity. My desk monitor is 4K and I have the Xreal Air glasses, so I wouldn't use Breezy Desktop over my monitor until better glasses are available. But, I have a tiny NUC for work (no laptop) and I can literally work comfortably on a plane with a giant widescreen monitor. When a pair of glasses are 4K with 80+ degree FOV(a guesstimate). Breezy desktop will be a game(work) changer. For gaming, Breezy Desktop widescreen was very, very smooth, I only wish my glasses had better FOV.
Note: For those with Xreal Air glasses, there is a slight drift issue if you look to one side of the widescreen monitor a lot, but you can just hit a quick keyboard shortcut to recenter.

The problem with that Steam Controller design is the grips are not angled out.
When it's as wide as the Steam Deck is, it's not a problem, but I assure you, if you delete the screen having the grips straight up and down will be uncomfortable.
Then there are the touch pads, you wouldn't need two if they are that close, just one. You could probably move the touch pad up and the sticks down.
So you'd pretty much have a PlayStation controller, so Vavle just needs to enable full support for the DualSense Pro and BOOM, Steam Deck controller.

You may be impressed in some ways and disappointed in others. The Deck is definitely not as powerful as your Ally, so some games will run at a lower framerate. This is somewhat mitigated by the 1280x800 display (it's literally pushing half the pixels) and the ability to manually set the screen's refresh rate -- 40FPS on a 40Hz display is smooth enough that you probably won't be able to tell the difference between that and 60@60. I know I can't. But even with those, you're still likely to see some choppier performance than the Ally's capable of, on really demanding games.
One area where the Steam Deck really shines is its energy consumption at low demand. I can regularly get 6ish hours of battery life while playing GameCube games, and with some tweaking, really light games like Stardew will let it last for up to 10! And that's with the LCD model, which has a smaller battery than the OLED! The trackpads are also an amazing feature, especially when combined with SteamInput. There are so many games that were never designed for a controller, but making radial menus and things like that on the trackpads works amazingly well. 💗

Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration. You don't get used to the lack of a second stick right away, I agree. But you have dpad as touchpad, and you can still bind multiple outputs to back paddles. I have both of the deck and the controller, but since I get used to it before deck, I don't feel that there's any big ladder jumps, more like downgrade of og bigpicture configs.. but even now, it's still huge unlimited power of tinkering

I wonder if Valve has a special feature planned for the Steam Deck 2 and releasing a controller now would make them obsolete shortly if that feature is not on the controller? In any case we have a long wait even if it is even planned. I was hoping the controller might also be announced when they finally release Steam OS for pc's, (it would make sense to release it then). but that also seems to not be happening any time soon either.

The Ally X is fantastic but you know what - I sold it today as there are constant new ones coming out and it will be impossible to keep up. I am keeping the Deck OLED as its kind of its own thing serperate from the Windows handhelds and will buy the Deck 2. There will be a new Ally every few months and it is hard to keep up with that so Deck only and a Windows laptop for me .
