Since my wife became dairy intolerant during her second pregnancy, and my son was born with a dairy allergy. We have sorely missed my granddaddy’s biscuits and sausage gravy. But oh man was the a good way to start our Christmas 🎄 morning. It was so good and enjoyed by the whole family. Thank you.

76yoa and going vegan after having rheumatoid arthritis since age 45. Bread and cheeses are my weakness. I have heard of people healing RA eating vegan. These biscuits look to be the only ones I've seen that look edible. This just pushed me over the edge to veganism. Thank you Mary.

Growing up, drop biscuits were a staple in my house along with white gravy. Something else we all did was take room temp butter, and blend it with maple syrup. Equally as satisfying!

I'm glad that I found this. I'm going to try it in the next few days. Since I found out that I was allergic to dairy a decade ago I've been looking for a biscuits and gravy recipe that I could have. I'm not vegan, but avoid dairy now because of the allergy.

Sage is a necessary ingredient in white gravy in my opinion. Along with the black pepper, it gives it that breakfast sausage taste. Gonna try this with loads of both.

One of my all time favorite meals, though I have eaten much less of it since going vegan. I am unsure why but vegan gravy from scratch has always intimidated me. I've made this a couple times with good results. I suggest adding a teaspoon or so of sugar to the gravy, along with rosemary to taste. It gives it a rich sausage reminiscent flavor. I do strain it once I'm done so I don't have to chew on the rosemary.

Hi Mary! Biscuits & Gravy was my pre-vegan favorite breakfast food, so I'm delighted so find this recipe! I did make the drop biscuits on Saturday (sorry, not a picture taker - just an eater!) and they turned out lovely, except the bottoms were real tough. Maybe it's because I used my silicon mat? What do you think?

I miss a good, crumbly (tender) biscuit. Last time I had one was at Hardee's before I went vegetarian (10+ years). Flaky, layered Pillsbury style is nice, but I think your recipe will more closely match that Hardee's biscuit and my vague memory of the crumbly style my grandmother baked for my Southern grandfather.
You know what's weird? Instead of craving sausage crumbles in that gravy, I'm craving soft scrambled eggs, which is what I made a couple of years ago to sub meat gravy and use a carton of farmer's market eggs (I'm not 100% vegan, but I try harder than then). Bet I could make a softer tofu scramble with kala namak and this white sauce gravy!
I know it's a year old, but thanks for this recipe. And thanks to Lisa the Viet Vegan for bringing me here!

Hey Mary! I just thought of something noms. In China they take lotus root 莲藕 or 藕 (I just call it ou, I don't know if it's lian ou or not), but they stuff it with pork. I went to the Jade Buddha Temple in Shanghai where they served the vegan version of it. It was utterly amazing, I think maybe it was gluten, or some kind of gluten/seitan mixture in it. My non-vegan friend still talks about it (this was months ago). If you've ever had it or know a good recipe for it, that'd be the best noms ever! This version was a thick piece of ou with a cut slit and the gluten stuffed in it, though I've seen it stuffed into the little openings of the ou. Oh, maybe you can't get ou in Canada...... well! It's a thought!

biscuits look wonderful, i want to put daiya cheddar style shreds and chives in the batter... yum! lol
your opinion would be appreciated, my niece lived in china for six years and she's given me some dried spicy bean chip things that one of her friends mother makes on their farm, you have to deep fry them and i don't have a clue what to do with them as i have never deep fried anything, i wonder if i could just spritz them with coconut oil and bake them or air fry them? or do you even know what i'm talking about? lol my niece lived in shanghai but i'm not sure where her friend was from, china is a big place. =D

no, the beans are ground with spices and i guess the mixture is rolled up and sliced thinly and sun dried... they're raw and she told me to deep fry them... the closest i could find to them would be: www.allrecipes.com/recipe/238456/crunchy-mung-bean-snack/ but they would be ground, mixed with the spice and then dried.
