The biggest advantage to using a PC as a makeshift game console is that Microsoft can't run in and take away your emulators, then make you pay twenty dollars to get them back, except now they're difficult to access and have a bland, off-putting menu. I mean seriously Bill, what was up with that?!
For those complaining or thinking it's "not fair" that some of the parts were used, here's something to blow your mind - Those consoles cost significantly more that $500 as Sony and Microsoft sale them at a "loss" but not really as those sweet sweet overpriced games and in Sony's case those sweet exclusives make them much much more than $500 per consoles, any "how much" depends on how many games you buy. Which is completely opposite for PC. Not only you can get an orgasmic deal in the used market (only for people that apply more than 0.1% of their brain) but if you want you can play any game without ever paying a dime! And I'm not even talking about the productivity part of the PC. So yea PC is not only superior in performance but also a ton more economic! Btw I forgot to mention the price increase for consoles. One can now cherrypick the "price increase" part of my comment while ignoring everything else.
I'm screaming rn, I had no idea you got on Nebula. I'm so happy for you and I really hope they reach out to more creators in the PC space to add to their platform.
The best part about the PC is that you can incrementally upgrade it every year instead of once every 3 or 4 years, it spreads cost allowing you to spend a little more on components and means you always stay up to date for the latest games. Upgrading cooling can also give you some headroom for overclocking which can extend the life of your cpu and gpu. And its versatile, can use it for everything from video editing to work to gaming. I build my first PC in 2016 and since then I have slowly upgraded every component at least once. I happen to have the same system you have here (except bigger and hence cooler) and it crushes modern titles.
*Enter next gen amd cpus needing u to replace your whole motherboard with new expensive ones and new graphics cards most likely requiring you to upgrade your psu* all jokes though i agree it’s one of the charms of pc gaming
@@kasra8106 realistically? no. I run an AM4 Ryzen 9 5900X, and an Asus Rog Strix 3080 OC edition. Neither will require me to upgrade for the better portion of 10 years unless I have a part die due to natural silicon degradation.
@@stonecoldslate I don't "have" to upgrade my 6-year-old stuff but it's increasingly difficult to actually run games looking and performing good at this point. If your goal is to play 1080 games for 10 years, you can do that if you buy high end stuff. But if you play at 4K? Good luck getting past 5 years.
Oh boy. Don’t tell that to the pc community 😅😂😂😂. I totally agree with your statement when you buy console you get full warranty on it unlike with used pc parts. But the cool part of pc is you get to choose if you risk it or go with brand new parts
I actually....agree! at least partially. You get a ton of perks going brand new on Series X, but those perks I was willing to forego for my specific needs. I (hopefully) framed this video specific to my needs clearly enough, so it's not confused with a general comparison video. Thanks for watching~
So nice! I recently build a console PC for my father using components that I had laying around. Intel Q6600, a GT1030... He doesn't care about modern games, so with this he can play any game until the mid 2010s no problem. I used Playnite as a launcher, so he will never have to use a keyboard or a mouse, just his old Xbox 360 controller!
I'd recommend installing the Steam Beta Update as I think the same UI thats in the Steam Deck now replaces Big Picture Mode by default. If not, you can install the beta and create a shortcut of Steam and add -gamepadui to the end of the target field and have that open on start up for a much better experience. :)
I actually received the update a few weeks ago! It has some minor bugs that require a keyboard & mouse occasionally, but the UI is sooooo much cleaner.
My PC is a 3060 Ti with an i7 11k CPU and playing the same games on PC/Series X - my PC gets stomped in load times and frame rates. Some games are nearly unplayable on PC compared to the Series X version. I think the problem is you picked games that were developed for the previous generation, so they're not taking advantage of new shaders/post processing/etc. The games I've played on both are Starfield, Forza Horizon 5, Wo Long, and Wild Hearts.
Honestly a very sick build, not gonna lie. If you wanted more control with the controller without having to remote into your PC, you could get controller companion for like $3 on steam. It lets you use your full PC with a controller, even gives you a circle like keyboard when you click on the stick. Plus its easy to turn on and off by pressing back + start. Makes my living room setup way more manageable, for me anyway
11:06 Re-pasting the card would also improve temperatures. Also, Blower cards don’t need a fan below them to perform well. Try removing it and see the effect
I forgot to mention that the card was (according to the seller) already repasted and had new thermal pads. An update video would be interesting though!
I have a similar PC setup and ps5/series x, honestly I prefer the consoles as they are still more seamless plug and play which is better suited to my needs and with the PC you have to tinker to get things right which I find annoying however I understand PC players like this as they want more control over graphics settings. A big thing though I have an MSI RTX 3060ti and it absolutely screams playing games and I can hear it though the headset which I find really annoying and both consoles are much quieter and I can't hear them gaming with a headset.
Nice build, but I have to disagree with omitting the cost of OS to keep it under the cost of Xbox and used vs. new. I'm glad you included what a new pc build would cost
That's actually a really powerful gaming rig for the price. The 3060TI for that price was a steal although prices have been coming down a lot from where they were past few years. I bought my series X a year ago there's no way I could have got a 3060TI for $200. Does the budget include a controller though?
I was able to find my first gaming pc on facebook 3 days ago. An asus rog strix with i7 9700f and rtx 2070 super for $500. Im excited to explore the pc gaming world
pretty good build, you might want to try reapplying thermal paste to both gpu and cpu if the seller didn't given that the seller used the pc for quite some time, or the cpu/gpu is on a higher temp than average in bench marks
Building a comparable PC to a Series X or a PS5 will typically always cost more. But people also tend to forget you are also getting a PC! Much better for web browsing, school work, and many other things other than just gaming. Much more value per dollar.
This thing looks like a beast of a machine for 1080p. Still under the price of an Xbox x even though they sell at a loss is incredible. Great work as always
Price of new vs used. There’s a reason why the xbox is sold at a loss. The Xbox would be able to be sold at breakeven, it would still be cheaper than the individual parts.

If you would drill hole at the back of the cabinet where the PC sits, even though you keep the door open. You'll get better thermals, instead of that hot air being kept in one place, you create air movement and that is better. I have a SFF build in a cabinet and had to do it like that due to thermals and it really works.
I added a couple of case fans to the back of my cabinet with some quick Dremel work and a few holes drilled. If you dont mind two extra cables behind your pc, I seriously recommend it. It brought my thermals down significantly.

yeah somebody correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't the Series X games run all current games at 4k60 fps??? how would a build like this even come close to that??
Most console games have dynamic resolution to keep 60fps stable, even series X does not run all games at 4k60fps at all times, it just compensates with that feature turned on. Some console ports to PC recently are starting to have that as well, but tbh I much prefer just turning graphics options down a bit and achieve the same, which usually gives better perceived picture quality. A 3060ti can definitely get to 4k60fps for most console ported games, but for some of the most taxing and most recent PC games it will not be able to do without turning down graphics. I think the need for high end GPU is highly overrated and mostly a marketing ploy to get gamers to overspend on high end flagships. Unless you are a competitive gamer who requires high refresh rate up to like 240 or even higher to gain competitive advantage, nobody needs the latest gen flagship. You can do pretty well with a latest gen mid range or last gen flagship, or even flagship from two gens ago (like a 2080ti), and you'll run most games comfortably at ~100fps with all settings turned to max.

You console fanboys really are ignorant
kinda misses the point though. Whilst if you're only gaming, yes a console is better value, obviously. But something you may also need to own is a capable computer. Do you remember the pandemic? Do you also remember how everyone rented out terrible chromebooks? Situations like that are a reason that something like this makes sense. You're never limited with a computer.
Using a 512gb SSD is kinda cheating since the Series X has a 1 TB drive. You also have to factor in warranty, controller, OS, the fans, UHD blu-ray drive, etc.
Watching your videos inspired me to build a budget ITX PC. Loving my Ghost S1 that I made under $500. The part finding was half the fun. Keep up the amazing content!

Good job 👍. I built a $2000 pc with a 3080ti and I’m now on my second failed power supply. Having to deal with constant update battles I just use the PC as a PC now and stick to my consoles for gaming at this point. PC games are full of hackers so I turned off cross play for that reason on most games. Xbox cross play is weird to turn off but playing only against Xbox/PS players servers seem better and with less hacker headaches. Just an opinion. You got a sub.

I did a very similar build about a year back using an ITX board, 5800x and a 3070 all in a Thermaltake Core V21 cube. Like you I built mine for couch gaming and like you I have mine in a floating media cabinet. I noticed you have to keep the door open when you used it due to heat obviously. I used a AC Infinity T8 plate fan kit on my media cabinet enclosure. It works extremely well in automatically keeping the cabinet nice and cool while keeping the doors closed.
I'm also in the UK, I can see used 3060ti's going for £250 and new ones for 300-350. Whilst these prices are not amazing, I think you'd need to be deliberately missing the point to not understand how consoles cannot do all of the same things as PC's but the opposite is true.
This is great, the built is really tight and this has kept me away from doing a MicroATX but I might just do this one or something similar, I have some giftcards from Christmas, thanks for the video.
Beautiful Video, I actually have this case and GPU, but a 5700x. I'm thinking of doing a pc builder side hustle working with this case since its affordable, smallish and easy to work in! I understood why you chose to play at 4K for the purposes of the comparison, but I don't think the Xbox series X internal resolution is 4K. playing at 1440p would probably make more sense especially with a 120hz tv. Cheers!
Not sure, but I think the reason that your GPU temps are a bit high is because of the airflow. The GPU uses a blower-style cooler, which means it blows all the air out the back of the gpu rather than blowing hot air everywhere. I noticed that there is a giant cable mess right behind the GPU, so what you should probably do is move those cables somehow.

For everyone who wants to make the build a bit cheaper here is what i did. I got an used r5 2400G and a used rx5700xt but a b450motherboard.
The benefits where that i could overclock the cpu for additional singlecore performance.
And i got the whole for about 300bucks.
Happy gaming!
Hey Fladu thanks for that 😁. How does it do performance wise I'm really interested in a build like this
@@Jay-ho1wo it performs quiet well in Forza horizon 5 i get 60fps at 4k high settings with fsr2.0 at quality preset
About 90fps in halo infinite 1440p high. And about 80 in battlefieldV at 1440p high settings.
If you have the budget i would opt for a bit higher performing cpu bc it is the bottleneck in higher fps games like battlefield…
That's a huge W there. The 2400g is a tad slow imo though
@@fladu2546 thank you so much. I'll definitely look into a build like this

Thanks! Yes, the team and the creators on there are phenomenal! I'm hoping we get more PC creators too

Watching your videos is like drinking a cold glass of water from the kitchen sink at 3pm on a Saturday. Keep up the fantastic quality content!

You can't compare used parts to a new system. Great video though!
Right I found a lightly used XSX for $300 I got a mean deal
One of my cousin still using the Q6600 for his PC, not sure what his graphics card is. Was a very decent CPU and very popular in its day.
A legendary chip! That's awesome that you're still finding a purpose for it.
I'd recommend installing the Steam Beta Update as I think the same UI thats in the Steam Deck now replaces Big Picture Mode by default. If not, you can install the beta and create a shortcut of Steam and add -gamepadui to the end of the target field and have that open on start up for a much better experience. :)
Good tip
Was about to write this!
@@malvnathanielsame lol
I actually received the update a few weeks ago! It has some minor bugs that require a keyboard & mouse occasionally, but the UI is sooooo much cleaner.
This video just summarised all points why you buy a console. It’s so much work to get a PC setup running correctly. Happy with my plug and play XSX 🤗
The budget builds are so satisfying when they come together
And stress relieving for me as a creator LOL
11:06 Re-pasting the card would also improve temperatures. Also, Blower cards don’t need a fan below them to perform well. Try removing it and see the effect
I would love to see how this turns out.
I forgot to mention that the card was (according to the seller) already repasted and had new thermal pads. An update video would be interesting though!
I see, you cant build this in Australia for the same price because the GPU cost twice as much brand new
I have a similar PC setup and ps5/series x, honestly I prefer the consoles as they are still more seamless plug and play which is better suited to my needs and with the PC you have to tinker to get things right which I find annoying however I understand PC players like this as they want more control over graphics settings.
OS key is only like 5-10 bucks

That's actually a really powerful gaming rig for the price. The 3060TI for that price was a steal although prices have been coming down a lot from where they were past few years. I bought my series X a year ago there's no way I could have got a 3060TI for $200. Does the budget include a controller though?

pretty good build, you might want to try reapplying thermal paste to both gpu and cpu if the seller didn't given that the seller used the pc for quite some time, or the cpu/gpu is on a higher temp than average in bench marks

@@mikeslemonade if thats wroth $2k to you then im in the wrong business lmfaoo

Then why did this pc get better peformance then the xbox?? Also hdr? Lmao tell me you're stupid and don't know what you're talking about without telling me you're stupid. Hdr doesn't cost any peformance, it just makes bright colors brighter and dark colors darker. Any peice of hardware can do it. Hell windows is set to automatically apply hdr to any game that doesnt have it built in. The components in a console is no different then what's on the pc market, yall don't have anything special, the ps5 is just a tuned down rx 6700. Anything the ps5 can do the 6700 can do. You console fanboys really are ignorant
Just do yourself a favor guys and buy an Xbox Series X or a PS5. Cheap and super strong.
Exactly these console killer PC videos are bull shit.
kinda misses the point though.

Hey Oz, here in the UK a 3060ti goes for over £400 which costs more than your entire build. So in the UK you're far better off buying a PS5 or One X.
I'm also in the UK, I can see used 3060ti's going for £250 and new ones for 300-350. Whilst these prices are not amazing, I think you'd need to be deliberately missing the point to not understand how consoles cannot do all of the same things as PC's but the opposite is true.
