    I had almost every canon camera and the R5C is an Amazing camera. The intriguing part about the camera is how capable this camera is on the top end. 8k60, 4k120, the codecs, it’s small, 45mp stills, cinema menu, no overheating … but there’s workarounds needed but the biggest thing is there are as few cripples for the money than any camera we’ve had in a while(except clog2).

    • @vlcheish
      @vlcheish ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a great camera but my knock on it is the internal battery can't handle 8k60 and 8k60 is what you need for the 5.2mm VR lens so you have to have an external solution for it.

      No clog2, not capable, compared with even a Sony zv-e1, which I bought used for $1700. Who cares about 8k.

    @VanDanMedia ปีที่แล้ว +7

    It’s got it’s flaws…. But to me.. the image… the 8k sensor…. Rig it up… gimbal it up… v mount battery at all times 😅 the rf glass…. The 28-70 f2.0 just produces some absolute butter 👌🏽🙌🏽🙃 the R5C I love it

      I was thinking about replacing my 2.8 24 to 70. Although I saw the 28 to 70 2.0 did not have stabilization. Wasn't sure if I needed it but did not want to lose it. Now that I have seen digital IS and the lens stabilization work together, I am pretty satisfied with the result..

    Try this for fun … think of the R5c as a mini-cube cinema camera (get a cage) with a built in right side grip, a full frame 8K sensor, built in amazing EVF, swivel touch screen, and in body compact battery for when needing to stay small ….. you might think of it in a whole new way. Oh, and it takes amazing 45mp stills as a bonus.
    To me, that helps me more easily know what it actually is functionally.

    I remember back in the day when Canon released the C70 after I had purchased the C500 Mark II...Of course my instinct was to feel defensive and assume that it couldn't come close to image quality and performance of the C500 Mark II...then I took a deep breath and realized that I was wrong. The benefits boiled down to higher resolution should I need it from the C500 Mark II...fast forward to now, JAN 2024 and I still own a C70 and no longer own a C500 Mark II. Tech moves so fast! Thanks for a terrific video!

    Josh, I've been posting on Canon pages asking for a C70 sensor on an FX3 body with great battery life. Just that would make me very happy.
    R5C is bulky and heavy for 8 hours of gimbal work, and I need something like R6, but it is still overheating. Where I am now, I am considering the S5II and use my old EF lenses just until Canon finds a way to make a small video camera. Disclaimer, I am mainly a photographer, so I don't want switch systems because Canon and Westcott flash works perfectly together. I m in a position where my company is growing, and video production is taking over. Now is 30% video, but soon it will be 50/50 or more.

    I'd really love to see a full frame RF mount cinema operating system camera with built-in ND, XLR, etc. In other words a full-frame C70. Josh sort of hand-waved the "I'd rather take the C70 over the R5C if I was only shooting video" without weighting the sensor crop, and maybe that's because he owns the 15-35, but as a prime shooter I'd rather be shooting 24 and 35 uncropped vs 16 and 24 cropped with the lenses currently available. It's bizarre to me that the "mount of the future" has only been adopted on one "cinema" camera and it's the oddball R5C.

    Love the R5C. I think what people don’t realise with the clog2 issue is Canon don’t have a Full Frame 8K sensor that shoots clog2. Not yet. What camera are you comparing it too? It’s just not where we are tech wise right now. It will be hilarious when the R5C2 has clog2 and everyone complains it’s not clog4 😅

    • @CO8848_2
      @CO8848_2 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's why it is not a good camera, any Sony full frame beats it in dynamic range.

    • @LatexFashionTV
      @LatexFashionTV 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Dynamic range is just one element that goes into the image. It's not everything. Would this podcast be any better if it was filmed on an Arri Alexa? or Worse if it was filmed on a Canon 550D? Before you see a movie in the cinema do you have to know what camera it was filmed on to decide if it was worth your time?
      The Canon R5C has more usable dynamic range (12.7 stops according to Gerald Undone) than the digital cinema camera that shot most of the phase one Marvel movies (11 stops). You're saying the R5C is 'not a good camera' because it has MORE range than Captain America? Should we delete all media with less dynamic range than a Sony camera because.. it's not good? I appreciate you taking the time to comment, but at what point do you draw the line?
      Are cameras just tools an individual creator chooses to make their content with.. or are you saying one content creator is better than another because of the cameras they use? Is one channel that uses a Sony better than another channel that uses a Canon.. and honestly.. how would you tell unless the creator told you what camera they were using? Is it the camera is what makes the content good ?

    Ok, I have C70s. I bought R5c for smaller shoots. They say it's a hybrid. Only if you are a hybrid creator. I am a video guy and rigged R5c in a smaller fashion than the C70s. If you rig it out for video, there is no way you will shoot photos. Example: I have a cinema lens with a matte box on the R5c. That's not easy to flip to the photo.
    If you get a battery grip and use on photo lenses. It may be good for hybrid use. I have not met anyone who uses it for both of its strongsuits.

    Canon’s lens lineup is lacking. There is such little effort put into their non-L lenses. Honestly, the only attractive aspect of them is their price. No weather sealing; barrels that extend while focusing; middling image quality; horrendous focus breathing. All of them exhibit at least one of those characteristics (most have multiple). That isn’t to say that there are no appealing lenses, but my general opinion is that they should be better.
    I don’t know, I guess I would rather spend more on a good “non-professional” lens than feel like I have to shell out for the f1.2 model just to get features that should be standard across the board.

  • @HuFilms

    Guys, this was a fantastic video, really enjoyed the conversation. Like you both and perhaps even Canon themselves, I've got a 'second wind' with this camera. In other words, I'm kinda more into it now than when I actually picked it up almost a year ago. Like what you said Josh about SONY allowing S-Log on their inferior codecs, just give us the dang C-Log2 and let us decide on if it's worth it. I think my biggest frustration with this camera, other than the obvious ones in which you mention here, is not being able to record video clips (as Custom 3) in photography mode. With some 'hybrid' jobs typically for social media type clients, this feature is a God send and with wildlife shooting which is largely photo-centric, to be able to shoot clips at the same time, is almost essential. Thanks guys, great chat. 👏

The M6 mark ii what kind of like that for me but after a few years all the workarounds for: 4k overheating, 30 min rec limit, battery life, picture profiles, etc. I was hoping that the R8 would have been the appropriate full-frame follow-up. maybe even a small boxy or viewfinder less version of the R7 would be a win in my book too.

    I still feel somewhat new to R5C have had mine since June. What surprises me is that you still cannot use bluetooth or connect to wifi when you are in video mode. Another thing that they should fix in the future is the change in framerate. I live in Europe where we typically use 25 frames per second - that you have to go in and change the hz in the camera to be able to shoot 23 is crazy. There are times when it doesn't work either, the camera shows a record on the screen, but it doesn't record anything - it must be an error. Yes, a camera in that class should have built-in ND and full HDMI. Other than that, I love this hybrid camera. Bumblebee that flies above its weight class - fat and happy 🥳

      @@pharmatographist that’s not true. Regular 4k always worked on the R5. Plus now it doesn’t over at all. But the R5c battery life still sucks. Walking around with a power brick defeat the size of the camera.

      @@pharmatographist plus I’ve had both cameras at the same time. The R5c shoots better footage but sucks to use.

      @@presise1620 Well, your opinion is your opinion. I shoot with two R5’s and and an R5C, doing weddings. The 30min time limit still sucks. You mentioned specifically taking overheating over the battery life of the R5C. Anyone knows once a camera overheats, it shuts down and may or may not be turned on again for sometime. That would never work for me during a wedding.
