I have one of those - there are two minor flaws : I find them tricky to handle with gloves and without you always end up with brake dust / dirt on your hands. 2 : the case of the cord running to the handle bar (the lemon yellow rubber ring) is plastic and very fragile. You drop the lock on the floor and the case can open, releasing the spring and the cord : good luck getting everything back together. It doesn't impact the actual lock system.

Doesn't stop them from grinding through the disc itself though, which they certainly do if they are stealing for a chop shop. Still worth having one :)
@M D please don't use a grinder in one hand and some tiny lock in the other hand. That's a disaster in the making. You only need to slip and your grinder cuts into your hand instead into the lock. I have this lock. Been using it for 7 years, on a bike that sits outside under a cover and gets a ton of rain. No issue, ever. Spray it once a year, never clean it. The rubber bumper is a bit loose, but doesn't really matter. Best lock I've owned, ever.
@@Yvolve I'm in the exact same situation. Bike sitting outside under a cover with no shelter, unfortunately. However, I'm still quite new at this and worry that the bike would actually be damaged by the rain and humidity (under the cover). Do you have advice / recommendation / feedback? Thanks :)
@@tsubarider13 If you have a good cover, that is soft on the inside, it won't hurt the paint. Unless you're somewhere where corrosion is an issue, it should be fine. Many people I know park it under a cover and I live in a fairly cold but humid climate. Bikes are built to take a beating, I've parked mine on the top of the dune when I worked at the beach for months. I live about 20 minutes away and no issue with rust. They're like cars, which can take sitting in the rain for years. If you're unsure, get a cover with a vent at the top, but it shouldn't be an issue unless you've got a lot of bare metal showing, or it gets super wet under the cover. The main thing is to get a black cover and lock your rear tire to a solid object. The rear is harder to remove than the front. Thieves have to cut the chain to take it, which takes planning or time. Along with a good disc lock on the front, you'll stop the thief looking for an opportunity. If someone has planned to specifically steal your bike, there's not much you can do. I've seen them stolen from locked, CCTV garages in busy areas. My friend had her Audi A3 RS steering wheel stolen three times in six months. Theft on order is a thing unfortunately.
@@Yvolve omg that's an awesome reply! Thank you! I was mainly adking for the rain. It's sitting on a sidewalk so no rain pools under it but I was worried about moisture.
yes, a dedicated professional performing his skilled labor induces a strong sensation of ASMR to me. I was thinking about downloading all of LPL's videos and cutting out just the picking parts to make a compilation, but it was deemed to be too much work (approx 4000 minutes of videos on his channel to edit).
I saw this video in my rec list and i immediately had to go to the comments to see just how many 'flared base' type comments there were. Yall did not disappoint.
For reals. First time I've seen him say true gate so many times. He makes it look easy, but normal people would struggle with it, even if they had that special tool of his.
I don’t know if a bike thief would carry a roll of tape with them unless it was a targeted attack. I don’t usually have tape with me when I’m out for a walk, coming home from work or in a hurry to get somewhere but maybe you guys do and I’m just out of the loop. Or I just don’t know the circumstances of bike theft well enough. I think it’s still a pretty good design feature on an already good lock.
Toby B. Nook thieves generally (smart ones) would carry tape around- makes it easier to get into windows. Which reminds me of something I would tell prospective clients when I worked at a Locksmith- they’d be calling to organise someone to give them a quote for a high end security system. More than happy to spend $10k plus on this robust system. And I’d ask “so, do you have single glazed or double glazed windows?” Them: just single, normal windows, why? Me- you might want to fix that first. I can send around my boys to install the best security system money can buy, but it’s not much use if all you need to get in is to break a window with a rock. I had that conversation a few times. Also, having to tell people that if a thief is determined enough, they will eventually get in. Big locks and cameras and other security stuff works more as a deterrent than anything else. Funnily enough, my honesty didn’t lose us any sales (especially after I pointed out that it’s easier to lock a safe than a house, and we sold safes). I just couldn’t justify letting some poor old man (figuratively) spend possibly ten thousand or more on a security system that is so easy to get around. And if I sent a Locksmith out, he would have told the client the same thing I did.
@@katherinemorelle7115 also, a high end security system can attract higher tier thieves, simply because a high end system generally implies there is something worth the security inside.
The rotating parts also make brute force twisting attacks impossible. If you grip it with a pipe wrench it just spins without stressing the main parts.

This is probably the best endorsement for a lock I've ever seen
any time you see LPL bring out the real gear (his special tool) you know its already a quality lock. Then his endorsement of "this requires a fair bit of a skill, and I very much doubt it would be picked on the street" might as well be a national seal of approval
"I doubt very much that this would be picked on the street." Those words are high praise indeed coming from the LPL.
Well done, Abus, well done!
LPL: "hmm"
*Locks sold out*
Im happy with this video and knowing my lock for my motorcycle is good.
Been using this for the past 3 years, great little lock!

@@Tendies7645 I am fine. It was a set-up to locate traitors in my staff. Thanks for your concern.
@@scottsiaens3456 You didn't miss a beat on that one.
What's the backstory on this meme?
So the Bosnian Bill has the same lock pick tool? Where exactly does he live in Bosnia?
Seems like a solid lock to get myself, thanks LPL! :D
OK I'll leave a commant : MAN HOLY SHIT this is just amazing how you do that. I'm very impressed.
The rotating body also prevents grinder attacks, which are very common in London and other big cities.
Doesn't stop them from grinding through the disc itself though, which they certainly do if they are stealing for a chop shop. Still worth having one :)
They call grinders "cultural enrichment tools"
@M D please don't use a grinder in one hand and some tiny lock in the other hand. That's a disaster in the making. You only need to slip and your grinder cuts into your hand instead into the lock. If they catch someone stealing something this way they should lock them up twice. Once for stealing and once for working criminally dangerous.
@@Matt-yu5ed well worth it. I use it as my disc lock when out and about and as a chain lock when at home.
@M D And that's not a good way to keep both of them
Ah yes, the best defense against criminals: making the lock that doubles as a butt-plug
just bought it for my motorcycle based on your video!!!
Here I was last week organising the purchase of my new motorcycle, and this came up in my suggested videos. Guess who now has a new disc lock coming in the mail
"i very much doubrt that this will be picked on the street" holy quacamole, I know what lock to buy after words like that from LPL
even the crappiest locks most likely aren't picked on the street, everything is destructively compromised if its a bicycle / motorcycle.
@@stevensenlacere1619 looks pretty hard to break the lock to me
@@PixelBoyMiner Just drill or cut down the middle, or buy a new disc.
@@stevensenlacere1619 You're right, nowadays the scrotes just cut the lock off with a battery powered angle grinder.

Wait did he finally just recommend a lock, and not ruin a company. That has to be a good lock then.
@@tsubarider13 You're welcome! Enjoy your bike and ride safe!

yes, a dedicated professional performing his skilled labor induces a strong sensation of ASMR to me. I was thinking about downloading all of LPL's videos and cutting out just the picking parts to make a compilation, but it was deemed to be too much work (approx 4000 minutes of videos on his channel to edit).

For reals. First time I've seen him say true gate so many times. He makes it look easy, but normal people would struggle with it, even if they had that special tool of his.
@@texchu8331 That special tool is the only way you can open that type of lock. Most thieves just ignore disk detainer locks or grab an angle grinder.
I don’t pick locks, I clicked on this to read the comments! Didn’t disappoint 👀
I feel much better when you teach thieves how to be better!
A lock he liked. Wow the makers must have had a celebration when he didn't call it terrible or accuse it of an unforgivable flaw
Its like when NASA lands a spacecraft
1:40 Hey that’s pretty smart, each part rotates to make tensioning the lock harder!
1:50 *LPL pulls out tape* never mind
And I’d ask “so, do you have single glazed or double glazed windows?”
Them: just single, normal windows, why?
Thank u for what ya do sir.
