      This lock is only rated "klass 3" and it's for scooters and motorcycles, there is klass 4 and klass 5 also which a believe LPL can not pick. Here in Sweden many locks are certified by SBSC.

      The "key" to picking any lock is...practice, practice, & practice. Proper tensioning & feeling the feedback of a lock, can only be learned from experience. Keep trying & you'll get it!

      John Larson Yeah, I’ve actually been able to open a couple, but not consistently. I’ll pick two or three times in a row then get stuck on it again. And one lock I’ve been able to rake open a few times, but I can’t pick it to save my life.

      Luckily there is no way to mass produce the skills required to use the pick on these type locks. It takes so long to get good enough to open these locks and I'd argue that the talent required to get them open in the same speed as LPL is probably only attainable by the 1% of people who take up lock picking.

    • @MelissiaBlackheart

      @@Quick_in_and_out Right. These cores are still quite good for most peoples' purposes, and as long as the lockmakers avoid putting in design flaws that allow people to bypass it, and put them inside of beefy lock bodies, they're well worth owning.

      @@Quick_in_and_out Hell looking at how long it took LPL to pick this one even with him noticing things that an amateur would never even think of, I'd say this would be a good deterrent for any average burglar. Judging by the materials used the only viable attack would be a disc cutter and that would make it noisy enough for the lock to still have done its job perfectly.

    • @JF32304
      @JF32304 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It really isn't that difficult. The slop in the lock is what really helps these pickers. If everything was good and tight on the tolerances... It would be much much harder to pick. Almost impossible. If every piece was machined within .0001 tolerance you couldn't get it without a key. You have to think... With the slop in the tools, that slop directly connects to the slop in manufacturing. When they use a paper clip to open it... It's not even a lock lol. The disks in this video are stamped brass, if they used machined steel wafers they couldn't get it. Hell, you could laser cut them and have built a better core. i need to invent an un-pickable lock.

      @@lockpickinglawyer The last disc is actually there just to give the key tip a grip on the core, since disc detainer needs at least one 0 cut to work.
      I work alot with abloy locks, and newer ones also have 11 discs, where the oldest ones actually have only 10, and instead the top one, which nowadays is a spinner, was the 0 cut for the grip on the core, and the bottom of the core, which now holds the extra disc, instead was just a slot for the tip of the key.
      TL;DR: The 11th disc is just for tension

Sitting quietly peering into my terminal, finding how to solve the first half of the problem we had I muttered "I think we just had a nice click out of one..." and everyone around the table looked at me like I spoke words noone could understand. As always, great job. I do have a question: why do banks "drill" out safe deposit box locks when customer loses their key? Why not "pick" the lock by chaps like you? The keys look simple enough and the mechanism can't be that complicated. The locks aren't meant o be physically robust - they're in a controlled environment - so why not just "pick" them? I (we) await your answer.

    • @nick15677

    • @Zeiphyrus
      @Zeiphyrus 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Not sure about it but what is the point in preserving the integrity of a lock if all keys are lost? Starting from that premise I guess it's usually cheaper to just drill through the lock than paying an expert to actually pick the lock. As you said they're in a controlled environment, it's not as if they were stealing stuff where time and stealth are much more constraining.

    "A bit of a challenge". That's what I heard you say. Well you started picking at 50 seconds and you are done picking at 2 minutes and 52 seconds so approximately 2 minutes to pick and get into whatever was of value. I would have saved myself the lock money and just wrapped a piece of coat hanger wire around a hasp to secure it. It would take you longer to either cut the wire or unwrap it than it did to pick this lock. You are amazing!

    • @MelissiaBlackheart
      @MelissiaBlackheart 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bear in mind, that's two minutes of picking by one of the world's most skilled lockpickers, using a highly specialized custom made tool, under ideal conditions, AFTER he has done research and practice runs.
      Honestly that's kinda impressive. The average thief would not be able to do this, they'd try to force the lock or just try to break or bypass the door, instead.

    I thought all of Anchors locks used Scandinavian oval cylinders, and not their own cores. Color me surprised. Note: The "-3" at the end of the designation means it is a class three on the 5-degree national Swedish scale. Level 3 is the highest anyone would normally go on a home or for example on a motorcycle. Class 4 and 5 is only really used in for example military installations or other very high security applications.
