The funny thing is that when they were doing the casting, the writers said they wanted a 'Timothy Dalton' type of person for the role of Simon Skinner.
One of then just went, "Why don't we just ask Timothy Dalton?" So they did exactly that and Dalton said yes. And I am sure Mr Dalton had a lot of fun!

One of my favorite parts in this movie is the play. It's not just a terrible version of Romeo and Juliet. It's a play of the movie with Leo DeCaprio and Claire Danes. That's why you have the gun, the angel wings, and "Love me Love me Say that you love me". It brings the terribleness of the play to a whole other level.

It's very meta as the cop is played by one actor, and not actually twins.

What's true about the flm is that pretty small towns and pretty suburbs in the UK are kept "nice" by ruthless social cleansing at local government level. The social cleansing doesn't involve direct murder, obviously, but people's lives are blighted as a result of the discrimination in policing, housing and distribution of public services. Nimbyism is a powerful force in British politics.

If I remember righ this movie got applause from the police force how well it actually depicted the many sides of police work, like filling papers and noting down evidence :D
Also every time you see Skinner on the crime scene, his radio plays a song that relates to the murder...
Also apparently harming swans is like regal crime over England so you would be in big trouble.

True! Technically the Queen owns all of the "unmarked swans in open water" in England, though the Royal household only actively maintains the swan population along certain stretches of the Thames. Only a few people are allowed to hunt them and it's also illegal to steal their eggs I think.

Great movie & "killer" review, The Cornetto Trilogy is such an amazing set of films that kind of pay homage to the zombie/ rom-com films with Shaun Of The Dead, buddy cop/ slasher films with Hot Fuzz, & Sci-fi/ alien invasion movies with At World's End. If you haven't yet, I explore you to look for SPACED which aired on the BBC back in the early 2000s (prior to the films) and it is essentially what launched Edgar Wright, Nick Frost & Simon Pegg's careers.

The priest, for instance, played Indiana Jones' nemesis in Raiders of the Lost Ark. And as a lover of the 8 hour Nicholas Nickleby, the actor who gets decapitated played Smike in a brilliant performance. Tons of great actors in this movie. And my favorite part is one of the James Bonds asking for ice cream for his sore throat after being impaled. Timothy Dalton was brilliant in this movie. EVERYBODY was.

At the top of the movie, Father Christmas is the same guy who directed the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Janine (gorgeous blue eyed woman who breaks up with Angel) is played by Cate Blanchett. Just two of many wonderful actors playing small roles or cameos in this star studded film :D This movie has SO many easter eggs... it's amazing. For example, one of the things the director wanted to do was make mundane stuff look as exciting as stunt sequences in an action movie, so that's why sequences like paperwork were edited in a hyperstylized way.
I would guess by now you've also seen Shaun of the Dead, but if you haven't, do yourselves a favor! :) (It shares some other actors too... one of the Andy's from this movie is the "you got a bit of red on you employee" from SotD, and the fence jump thing is referenced in it too)

The running joke with the swan that escapes is because there is a law that any unowned mute swan in the UK is crown property and owned by the queen, it’s illegal to harm or kill these swans which is why in the second car chase they all avoid the swan. Also the myth that a swan will break your arm is why frank has a broken arm after the swan attacks him as he tries to escape.
Theses a few subtle scenes that you don’t show but the scenes in the shop where the shopkeeper says ‘no luck cashing those swans then’ to which Danny replies ‘just the one swan actually’ later becomes ‘no luck catching those killers then?’ It’s Danny’s response that makes Nicholas realise there’s multiple killers.
Also when Nicholas is being transferred he says you can’t just make people disappear to which the chief inspector says ‘yes I am I’m the chief inspector’ Frank being the inspector of the smaller force where he is the highest ranking officer is the leader of the conspiracy that makes people disappear.
Oh and the 2 female judges are Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s mothers

In the UK the emergency services have a thing called ‘cake fines’ basically it’s a fun way if someone messes up to pay back the team by buying cakes. Danny apparently lost his helmet so he had to buy cakes before Nicholas got to Sandford and for his drink driving Danny will be buying ‘chunky monkey’ for a month
