    Need to know how to get page numbering to START WHERE YOU WANT in Indesign? Here's a tutorial for that: th-cam.com/video/qbUTJoDLRG4/w-d-xo.html AND - Learn how to ETHICALLY get Adobe CC free (or cheap) here: th-cam.com/video/9b2rlS3dSjQ/w-d-xo.html

    You don't know how something like this, that looks simple and that's useful doesn't have a proper tutorial until I saw yours, so perfect. A big thank you.

    This has been the most confusing thing to put together until seeing your smart and simple tutorial on how to set page numbers across a whole document. THANK YOU! Appreciate the time you took to put this together :)

      Thank you! One extra tip - add a layer and put the master page numbers on it, then lock the layer - then they’ll always be on top (if you have a pic bleeding off the page or something like that). Thank you so much for the comment!

      Thanks! I think the example you used for this tutorial is brilliant! I have just started learning InDesign, a couple of days ago, and I have almost learned everything. (I have been on Photoshop and Illustrator for 4 years now).

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I feel like InDesign shares a lot of similarities with Illustrator, so if you know that, it translates over pretty well.

    • @GDHT

      Thank you! You'll need to add a layer and put the master page numbers on it, then lock the layer - then they’ll always be on top (if you have a pic bleeding off the page or something like that).

      You can add a layer and put the master page numbers on it, then lock the layer - then they’ll always be on top (if you have a pic bleeding off the page or something like that).

      @@GDHT Yes adding a new layer to my master page fixed this issue for me. It was easy. Just highlighted the master layer. Went to Layers tab and clicked add new layer. Then added my text. Lock and load rock and roll. Thanks for the great video.

      It looks like you'll need the ScribeDOOR plugin:
      1. Put the page numbering on the master page(s)
      2. Format the master page numbers to use a suitable font
      3. In the ScribeDOOR panel, there’s an option for “Digits” which includes Arabic, Devanagari, Gujarati and many others.
      It's also possible with the In-Tools World Tools plugin.

    Thanks for the tutorial, very clear and informative! Question: I'm wondering if you've ever come across the problem I'm experiencing: The page numbers are not lining up to where I place them on the master - for example, I have the numbering on my master placed to the outside bottom edges, just like your example, but they're showing up in the middle of the pages... I've tried deleting and re-doing them, I've tried creating a new master... same results! I can't seem to figure out why this is happening. Help!

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So these are just single pages (not spreads)? If so, you can just make one master page and apply it to all the pages, and add the page number like the video shows (just to the bottom right only).

    • @Utrekker2011
      @Utrekker2011 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A spread. Somehow, when I apply the master page on only the right side of the spread, page 2 appears as page 3.

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you want them to say 2,4,6,8? Try right clicking on page 2 in the Pages window, go to Numbering and Section Options, then Start Page numbering at 2. Let me know if that works!

    Hi Great lesson... I'm designing a cover on canvas for an eBook I'm writing on a very serious topic 'Suicide' and need all the help I can get... I've always taken down notes in OneNote for quite sometime, so many at this stage that I could write a whole book on just the prologue, and so it difficult to pick from all these notes for a starting point!... I will have a Prologue and a Forward... I will download your eBook Template and follow through, But may I ask your advice on whether I should continue to edit the entire book in Canvas or use InDesign for both the eBook and hardcopy... Thank you and thanks for being on here to help people like myself. P.S. The body text... what is best?

    • @GDHT

      Thank you! I've actually never heard of Canvas, but InDesign is really great for multi-page documents and ebooks. If you do decide to go with Indesign, make sure to set up paragraph styles. They're tricky but are absolutely a lifesaver!! I have a tutorial about them here: th-cam.com/video/ZSc2s7jl630/w-d-xo.html

      @@gobrad Oh wow, I didn't know it was even possible to lay out an entire book with Canva. I don't think I would go that route, if I were you. I'd definitely recommend InDesign, or even Word (although I'm not a fan of Word) over Canva. But Canva is great for single images, like your cover or maybe some graphs/images in your book!

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Illustrator doesn't have automatic page numbering, just InDesign. If you're making a multi-page document with more than say, 6 pages, InDesign is the better option. Hope this helps!
